My longtime Canadian friend Amanda Krosse made this artwork of Demri. My equally long time friend Fabiola shared this over 10 years ago on her FB page. I recently “re-discovered” it on my camera roll from 2011. • Fabiola Gonzales is Demri’s longtime friend who she modeled with. They stayed close friends up until her passed on October 29, 1996. I saw Fab, Mara and Amber at Demri’s youngest brother Dave’s Celebration of Life 10 days ago. It had been way too long since I’d seen them all together. I had missed them and grateful I got to see them. When I see artwork of Demri, it reminds me to continue creating and using my imagination. This past month has been an incredibly difficult time for me, my family and close friends. October was the anniversary of my husband’s passing and my dad’s, they passed 3 days apart from one another (same month, year). Demri’s brother Devin died on the same day as my husband. Demri passed October 29, 1996, her brother Derek, passed February 2002 and now her youngest sibling and friend, not only to me, but to so many others; Dave, Nov. 7th. • I started making the memory boxes as a way to keep myself motivated and my mind positive. I started with a box I made for my closest friend Paul Hernandez, using all of his photos, then Melinda & Gayle Starr, one for Demri’s mom Kathleen & most recently, I made one for photographer, Krista Kay. • I refurbished 3 of my jewelry boxes, I using all her photos. I’m in the middle of making 2 that are pictured (pics 2-4). I would like to mention that I also make these for my own mental health. It helps me stay in a positive mind set. Photographer and friend Alison Dyer has given me her blessing in making these boxes. • Some info: I use cigar boxes & some other wooden boxes. I’m very picky about the boxes and they are not cheap. All of the products I work with; paint, brushes, mediums, decor, it’s all chosen just for the boxes. “The Future’s So Bright, Dem’s Gotta Wear Shades” • For some reason I thought I’d shared this photo of Demri previously. However, after catching up with Kathleen’s Demri’s mom, she told me I hadn’t. The caption I wrote “The Futures So Bright……”, is directly from Kathleen also. • • Demri was around 16 in this photo while in Jacksonville, FL. • • • Kathleen may be joining us Thursday for the gathering at the Seattle Center Intl’ Fountain. It will be her first time in a few years, so I’m praying she’ll be able to join us. It’s not the same without her. Jack’s pics were those that I first knew about, as were Krista Kay’s back in the early years pre-internet. Unfortunately, about 11 years ago, we stupid falling out and never had a chance to reconnect. Although he followed my personal IG account, we never had an actual conversation.
