Nick Wayne has opened up about the involvement of his mother in his current AEW storyline, revealing he didn’t know it was happening
Shayna may have previously been on a different page to her son when it comes to his involvement with Christian Cage, but that mentality recently changed when she struck Adam Copeland with the TNT Championship.
That moment took place on the December 6 episode of AEW Dynamite which saw Copeland and Cage face each other for the first time in over thirteen years and it can be seen below this news story.
Before this, Wayne and his mother had seen their relationship become strained thanks to the influence of Christian Cage.
In a recent interview on The Wrestling Classic, Wayne revealed that he didn’t know his mother would be involved on screen, going on to say:
“I am very thankful for it because since Buddy passed when I was very young all I have is my mom. At first, when I was doing AEW she would come to kind of like my big matches, she was there at my first one, she was there at Wembley, she was there at the PPVs, she was there for the tag match against Swerve and AR Fox.”
With Shayna now an established character on AEW television and the Patriarchy going from strength to strength under Cage, Wayne went on to say:
“I am very grateful she’s doing it because she was just watching on the sidelines as a very proud mom, but now she gets to be a part of it. One day in five, 10 years from now, she can look back and say she can happily be part of that and was a part of that, and I’m glad she can say that as well.”
Nick Wayne received his AEW contract at the age of sixteen in February 2022 with it being subject to completing high school before making his debut at 18.
He made his in-ring debut for AEW on Dynamite in July 2023, facing Swerve Strickland.
The contract was given to him by Darby Allin who previously discussed his his history with the youngest signed AEW star.

I love the fact that Jay finally debuted his daughter, Isla. And I love that even though he and Denise are no longer together, they are still co-parenting their tween girl.
I sorta chuckled that Jay had to signal her to talk because she almost missed her cue, lololol (he tapped her several times). She also looked bored. "How many times do we have to do this, Daddy?" She probably said that.
(Also, people who asked why she was wearing the same dress from Dynamite - it was because the interview was taped and actually not live on Collision).
