[Special Ver.] Yuan finally got what he wanted! Qian's moaning will make...
Having no flashbacks during that scene is perfect. Watching SP11 right now on the Youku App.

(You can see the extent of love that Wei Zhiyuan has for Wei Qian, this moved me to tears)
(Not sure if this will be in the series)
In the novel, when Xiaoyuan was abroad , he met a hiking accident & , lost contact with outside world.
He lost most of his supplies and he thought he was going to die.
So he wrote a last letter on a napkin with his blood since he had no pen with him.
In the letter, he explained his precarious situation
In the next part of the letter he wrote how his wordly assets should be managed ( He wanted everything he owned to go to Wei Qian)
In the end, he wrote in Chinese ..
"Looking back, from birth till death, I have nothing but one distorted & intense obsession after another.
I understood Xiong Ge's words. It's just that if ...
L..... (blank)
If I couldn't meet you for 1 last time, it'll still be an enormous regret. ...
Wei Qian Wei Qian Wei Qian Wei Qian Wei Qian... " (he kept writing Wei Qian's name even the napkin got ripped due to being soaked in his blood) #DaGe novel by #Priest

Ahaha i have to talk about the 2 epilogues in the original novel Da Ge.
Epilogue 1: san pang (who is married to a dif character) brings his wife and daughter over and WZY answers the door, while WQ is still not up. San pang brings his baby daughter to find WQ but before that asks if there' are's anything inappropriate for kids in the room. WZY gives him something like a slight lenny face. Later WQ about to get up and tells them to leave so he could "change" but before exiting the room san pang catches a glimpse of all the hickies on WQ and was like, to WZY, i thought your room was safe for kids!
Epilogue 2: Xiao bao about to get married and WQ is feeling a sense of loss. They're lying in bed and WQ's talking about it. WZY on the other hand has this intrusive happiness because from now on nobody will fight for WQ's affection with him. Then he distracts WQ with some Physical Exercise in bed. Afterwards they're just saying nothings and WZY bites his finger. WQ says, that's enough baobei (baby), i can't take another round, let me sleep.
brb screaming. If they even include a sliver of any of this in the drama i will rise from my coffin.

According to the book, Qian didn't even know how to kiss, which confirms my theory that this was the first time he ever felt that excitement. The story is slightly different in how it unfolds in the book, but it's safe to assume that it is the same.

Help me Sort and File Unknown(2024)
I need this data for sorting purposes:
Is Priest Chinese or Taiwanese? I thought Guardian was a Chinese BroMaNcE thing, but apparently that, Sha Po Lang and Da-Ge which was made into the Unknown have the same author.
Assuming Since Priest is Chinese, where do you think I should put my ebook of Da-Ge? In the 'Chinese BL' folder or make a new 'Taiwanese BL' folder?

Finish watching Taiwan bl adaptation 'Unknown' till ep 8 and came over to say that among the many things I've liked about this series, the one thing that I really really appreciate the most is the details they put into it, how they decorate the home. Beside being so heartwarming and welcoming their house is, you can clearly see a family was living there. No minimal shit empty house that looks like a hotel book for a single night there, they use half of the budget making that place as beautiful as possible, that's why I love Qian's room the most, I mean look at all those books there, and the one lying on the floor, and the table carrying the burden of the whole family, it's so evident of how many years he spent on those chair (Would love to see Lili's room too, love the little decorations on her door). Gosh, I love this show.

Ok so I couldn't wait and started reading the novel Unknown is based on (Da ge/Big brother by Priest) and they have changed a lot of things in the show. Like the main plots are kind of the same but a lot of things are changed so I'm very concerned about the ending of the show.
Spoiler: They have a happy ending in the book and San pang is not with Wei Lili.

*novel spoilers*
There's a recurring theme of separation in the original novel that the drama hasn't really had time to portray. Xiao bao's name is wei li li, and "li" means to separate. I think this was the first instance that priest introduces this idea to the readers.
Then WQ's stepdad and mom dies, marking the first separation in the novel.
There's another character called Ma zi who lives with his mom running a breakfast stall by the side of the road. In an accident, the pot of hot dough-frying oil tumbles over the mom and she loses an arm and a leg. Ma zi, who is desperate for money for his mom's treatment, resorts to selling drugs for Le ge and is shot dead by police. Another separation of life and death.
Over at WQ's, Xiao bao's grandmother from the stepdad's side shows up and ends up living with them. She has a stroke a few years later and becomes incontinent and increasingly reliant on the kids for everyday tasks.
Grandma and Ma zi's mom end up leaving to wander off together in the winter because they didn't want to be a burden for the kids anymore. Ma zi's mom leaves a note that says, we didn't die, we just left.
There a chinese saying of "生离死别". 生离 is separation in life and 死别 is separation by death. WQ has experienced plenty of both. The novel ends with a quote: from now on we won't have 生离, only 死别. Only death will separate us.

Notes on Unknown (and Da Ge) Part 2
Tumblr media
Another great episode this week, and one that had some very welcome changes from the novel. I finished the book earlier this week and I liked it a lot; the bones of the narrative hold up very well so I'm confident this drama will stay solid as long as it doesn't stray too far from the major story beats.
Where it can and should stray however is in tone and characterization for Qian, which is something I think it's doing very well. One of the reasons I am grateful Taiwan has this adaptation is because I knew I could count on them to strip out most of the violent homophobia present in the original text (this is not a criticism of the book, as it is culturally appropriate there, but I jive much more with Taiwanese culture in this area). Qian in the book is all around much rougher and harsher and deeply homophobic in a way our show Qian is not.

And so this week we see Yuan in his tortured pining era, old enough now to understand both his sexuality and his feelings for Qian, while Qian seems to be just beginning to subconsciously clue in to some of the weird feelings he is having whenever he gets close to Yuan. He did not seem at all bothered to see the gay romance content in Yuan's room, but he was certainly curious to learn more about who he likes. I like also that they continue to hit the hurt/comfort beats hard; Qian needs a caretaker and Yuan wants the job.
One complaint about the English subtitles: Yuan has not yet ever called Qian by his name, despite what the translation claims. He is calling to him exclusively as "dage" or "ge" even as the subs use Qian's name. This is actually quite important--what he calls his brother matters in this story! I'm a little annoyed that this is being mistranslated because when the change comes, it will lose impact, so just a tip to listen for it.
Every week the episodes for this one feel too short; I'm really loving it.
