Rayon fabric is a versatile and widely used textile that offers various advantages in terms of comfort, drape, and aesthetics. It is a popular choice in the fashion industry and is known for its unique characteristics. Here's a description of rayon fabrics:
Natural origin: Rayon is a semi-synthetic fabric that is derived from natural sources, primarily cellulose from wood pulp. It is considered a regenerated fiber because it undergoes a chemical process to transform the raw materials into a usable fabric.
Soft and comfortable: One of the standout features of rayon fabric is its softness. It has a smooth and silky texture that feels pleasant against the skin, making it a comfortable choice for clothing. Rayon also has excellent breathability, allowing air to flow through the fabric and keeping the body cool.

the part of the loguetown AU where baby shanks first starts to fall in love with mihawk because it's brain eating me, "So why'd you come then?" the boy says, pressing a portion of his sleeve up against his nose as his speaks, slightly muffling the tail end of his sentence. However, the thread of sharpness in his voice isn't muffled, and the little pin-prick of adolescent fury in his eyes is no trick of the light. It's an utterly fragile show of anger, but Mihawk finds himself vexed. Mihawk doesn't answer. There's no reason he has to, anyhow.  "...Well?" The boy prompts from behind the sleeve, still muffled, sharpness still edging the words. Brat, Mihawk thinks. One the heels of that thought another comes, seemingly from nowhere, contradictory. Not quite. But he hardly registers it, because at that moment the boy blows his nose, the sound loud and sticky. Vexed in a different way now, Mihawk lets his annoyance bleed away from the tip of his tongue and down his arm into fingers that twitch up to tug, businesslike, on the part of the boy's sleeve that's being employed as a rag. Absolutely disgusting.  The boy's eyes narrow a fraction, but he stubbornly keeps the sleeve held to his face, dirtying it by the second. From behind it, red eyebrows raise at Mihawk, the hint of challenge in their arch. He sniffles wetly the next moment, ruining the effect.  Before he can stop himself, Mihawk tugs hard on the sleeve, slubbed cotton catching under his fingernails. The fabric warps, but remains stationary. The boy stares, eyes wide, and now Mihawk sees alarm in them. "Stop that. It's foul." Mihawk says.   Alarm leaves the the boy's eyes in the space of a blink, he shrugs, drags his wrist up, dragging Mihawk's hand with it.  "Stop that." Mihawk repeats.  Challenge is back in the boy's eyes in the next blink. "Tell me and I'll stop." Brat, Mihawk tells himself vehemently. Juvenile little thing. Mihawk doesn't have to tell him anything. Doesn't have to engage in this back and forth. He could, this instant, tell him to fuck off strongly enough to cap the boy's nosiness for good. But. But the boy is watching him, conspicuously not sniffling anymore. Like he's trying to signal he'll make good on his word.
Juvenile. Fine. Why not. His pinched fingers slacken as he thinks for moment, and what he can see of the boy's face turns expectant. "I wanted to see the end of a legend." Mihawk says shortly after another moment he doesn't need, deliberately flat. Maybe that will be sufficiently cryptic to stick the boy up. Even if it's the actual truth. Gol. D Roger had been, indisputably, a legend. Though Mihawk had never once been among the ranks of his fans, there had been...admiration. Of a sort. He's not going to tell the boy that, if that's what he's getting at to ask, and it seems so, - Mihawk has no interest in feigning posthumous platitudes, even for the not-son of the late pirate king -  and he prepares to shut the conversation down. But the boy doesn't ask. His arm comes down a few seconds after Mihawk finishes speaking, the fabric over it all blotchy. He stares for a beat, thin red lashes fluttering. Blink, blink, blink. And then he smiles.

Yennefer Coat Cosplay — Part 3: Fabric
Jacket
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Decorative Skirt Panels: Gray & Gold Embroidered Fabric (Esty)
Main Jacket: Black Hopsack Linen (JoAnn)
Bodice Lining: Black Kona Quilt Cotton (JoAnn) ...I'm pretty sure
Skirt Lining: Sunlit Allium (not 100% on the color) Sew Classic Cotton (JoAnn)
Appliqués: Floral Cold Cording Black Mesh Fabric (JoAnn)
The very first fabric I purchased was the decorative fabric for the panels, after a LOT of searching for something that was both vaguely screen-accurate AND in my budget. Even though the description said gray, I took a chance since it looked black in the listing photos (and imo looked black when I received it).
Now, that actually became problematic when I finally brought it into the fabric store to match....when held up against an actually black piece of fabric fabric, it looks noticeably gray in comparison.
Thus, I had two criteria for the main coat fabric: 1) not look terrible against the fabric I had already purchased; and 2) approximate the texture visible in closeup screencaps.
Tumblr media
After looking at what felt like every single solid black fabric in the store, I landed on the black hopsack linen (I actually liked the grey papyrus slub linen even better, but it wasn't in my budget 😞). The texture contrasts with the embroidered fabric in a way that deemphasizes the color difference. The embroidered fabric is also quite thick, so I didn't want the coat fabric to be too flimsy.
It felt wrong to put a polyester lining in a linen garment, so I ended up going with a lightweight cotton (obv. silk would be a ~good~ choice but I am Cheap and also didn't want to order it online). My hope is that the natural fibers will help counteract the fact that I'm going to be wearing a heavy, fully-lined black coat in 90°F+ heat 😅
Dress
Tumblr media
Skirt: Rose Satin Jacquard Black (Amazon)
Bodice: (I actually haven't decided yet but either the same fabric as the skirt or I have some black cotton that I think would be nice)
Honestly this isn't going to be super visible so my two goals were a) cheap and b) vaguely screen-accurate. The fabric arrives on Monday so I'm hoping it doesn't suck 🤞🩷
All told, I've probably spent ~$200 on materials (included notions, which aren't pictured here). The two biggest expenses were the linen and the embroidered jacket panel fabric, which were about $60 each. When I "started" this project last year, I think it stalled because I wasn't really confident that my sewing skills were worthy of the material cost, but since then I have several garments I've made that I actually wear regularly (....and I've watched a lot of sewing YouTubers which really do teach you a lot of techniques and tips about garment construction lol), so I have a lot more faith in my ability to pull this off!

i did wanna post process photos while i was making it, but since it was a gift and @readingthenight REFUSED to unfollow me so that i could,,,, i didn't. anyway she said she wanted something with constellations and when i say i really thought about what i wanted it to look like,,,,,, (the sketch is by another friend, sanna) and then once i had this complex fun design for a beginner sewer, naturally i had to use all the tools i knew of.
this was my first time trying to do princess seams!!!!! i found a great tutorial by donlarrie couture. i had based the straps off of an oscar de la renta dress and taken some inspiration from the applique work there. i did a 3/4ths circle skirt and i officially think it's my favourite kind of skirt. i made another mint dress with sangneri print (it's a print from rajasthan) and i did a 3/4ths skirt for that too.
shoutout to baba button house the real kings of sewing in Lucknow. they gave me the silver zari thread the silver cottony fabric with which I made the shapes and the little sequins and fabric glue.
mistakes made: definitely think using slub cotton (although more economical and structured which works for this kind of cut) is not a good idea in the long run. the weave isn't very tight and i know linen was pricier but maybe i should have gone for that. although I was clever and lined everything, ensuring that all the raw edges went inside, the fabric became a little thick at the waist and i wasn't able to do the same there. wish i was skilled with hand sewing.
it was also a little loose at the chest for @readingthenight but she had it fixed and im not posting photos of that but it fitted her SO WELL after that
also i suck at installing zippers
