What is your favorite color to add into the mix when you paint? For me it’s pink. I use many variations of it stand alone but this color is truly surprising when mixed with other colors. Take yellow green for instance, just a touch of pink turns it into a lovely olive, or olive green to a sunny shade if brown. I went off script for the Get Loose Challenge and painted something simple using only Bright Clear Violet and Yellow Green. I love all the variations in the colors I was able to create just by dropping them into one another as I painted. Such yummy color mixes. I continue to push myself to work outside of my comfort zone and to do the work, even when it’s more difficult, even when it feels like I’ll never get it right, because I know that eventually the art I make and how I make it reflects the most authentic side of myself as a maker. The pages of a handmade journal are among my favorites when they are crafted from vintage papers. Faded, crinkled, and held together with the stories of the past, they add a curious element to the art that blankets their surface. The perfect sound each old sheet makes as it is turned, the corners bent and dog-eared, signs of the life that has lived between the pages. It tugs at my heart. I will always love a fresh new journal-having let go of the fear of the blank page long ago-but those old ledger entries, the bits and pieces of someone else’s story, the notes and lines and music scores, they will always pull me in in a different way when I create. And there is no limit to what I throw at these delicate pages.
