Use these items to enhance your city’s streets, walkways, highways, skyways, bridges, and so on. A set of modular objects for constructing tunnels…or sewers, secret passages, underground escape routes and such. Small tunnels must be at least 5x6 tiles while large tunnels must be at least 9x12 tiles. Of course, you can mix and match items for your own needs.

Easy assembly – place the tunnel and entrance objects on the SAME tile. Objects are quarter-tile enabled but you’ll probably need “move objects on/off” and “grid on/off” cheats. Add the deco wall, cables, vents, and neon accents as needed by 1) placing them on the SAME tile as the other object, then 2) moving them forward depending on where you want them in the tunnel. Make sure accent items are aligned (in the same tile row) as the wall, entrance, and tunnel parts. Finally, you’ll need walls/fences to block sims from walking through the structure. The Tile Blocker (Simmons, 2023) may come in handy as well.

Objects have low-to-medium poly counts considering their footprint/actual size – this shouldn’t be an issue on slower computers if you don’t place too many of the higher-poly items on the same lot and mind your game settings.

BUILDING TIPS Default roads in Sims 2 generate at the front of all lots and are typically: 1) 10 tiles wide, 2) run from the left to right ends , and 3) contain two one-way roads going in opposite directions (cars take up 3 tiles and there is a 2-tile margin). You can combine the Portal Revealer (Simlogical/Inge Jones, 2013; 2007) and the updated Drive-By Hydrant (WHoward/Pick n’ Mix, 2023) to manage functional pedestrian/car traffic on your highways. See mod instructions, discussion threads, etc. as there are some limitations involved. I recommend removing the Portal Revealer mod from your downloads folder BEFORE packaging lots.

It’s time to give those flat, boring streets some more flavor! Road defaults and overlays like my Streets of 2Morrow (2023) set or these – Neighborhood Reboot (CuriousB, 2012), Default Hood/Road Replacements (LordCrumps, YEAR), Ultimate Road Default Replacement V2 (Tvickiesims, 2022), Rural Charm (Criquette, 2018) – certainly add some flare. Still, I want to be able to do more elaborate streetscaping in my game. To that end, here are some previews of various networkMAT objects I hope to release in 2024. These items will require my Repo Pack (Simmons, 2023).

Instead of the 1-step foundations I initially planned, I’ll be using 2-step foundations for most buildings within my city, especially downtown areas. These pieces are designed for “extending” the sidewalk and foundations (at the default 4-step height) to the edge of the lot and in other directions.

Depending on how you arrange them, they should give the illusion of a gutter/sewer system below. Of course, you could also make canals, elevated roads, tunnels, train tracks, and other structures too.

There will be bridges, overpasses, trains, trams, subways, pedways, and more! I’ll be moving the car/pedestrian portals around so that sims/traffic pass through the lot in various places. I've already tested having traffic pass on a road 2-stories above ground and pedestrians entering the lot from an elevator on the 4th floor - it works!

SUMMARY The Network Materials (NetworkMAT) (Simmons, 2023) series includes assets for building modern road networks in Sims 2. Use these items to enhance your city’s streets, walkways, highways, skyways, bridges, and so on.
Streets of 2morrow (Simmons, 2022-2023) adds intricate, modern road networks to your game with a look inspired by SimCity: Cities of Tomorrow (EA, 2013). It includes winter-ready road replacements, 40+ road overlays, and 130+ modular floor tiles. The road defaults contain no visible grass/dirt, so they’ll work with all terrains. Road overlays come with several recolors for a variety of projects, including bike lanes and narrow roads.
DETAILS Requires ALL EPs/SPs. Blue, gold, white, and A/B tiles should be used together respectively. There are left- and top-aligned versions to maintain the hex pattern across all tiles. Some corner tile seams will be visible - this is a default game quirk - but they’re hardly noticeable when used with other tiles.
No new driveway recolors are included. To create matching driveways, combine the floor tiles with invisible driveway/extension objects such as these by RoddyAeixo (2006).
When in lot view, the neighborhood roads at the edges of the lot appear darker. This is another default quirk, but they match perfectly in hood view.
Since there are no grass/dirt medians, you’ll need to move the mailbox, trashcan, and/or phone booth at least two tiles from the front of the lot.

Use these items to enhance your city’s streets, walkways, highways, skyways, bridges, and so on. A collection of 12 Big Retaining Walls to spruce up your city streets, docksides, and other areas. Build retaining walls in FOUR variations, each with 3 pieces: Regular, 5 Tiles (left, center, right) Regular Half-sized , 2.5 Tiles (left, center, right) Leaning, 5 Tiles (left, center, right) Leaning Half-Sized, 2.5 Tiles (left, center, right) Although the pieces themselves are 1-story high,  you can combine them to cover multiple levels. Technically, they’re 1-tile columns but take up more tiles than that – make sure sims can’t walk through them (unless that’s part of your design).
