He hit the couch with a groan, landing untidily on the old mismatched cushions and just letting himself sink into them. It had been a long day and work had sucked more than usual. To be honest he was glad to have the place to himself for a while, just to have a little time alone while his head switched off from the day from hell.

Sprawled out, arms draped along the back of the couch, head lolled lazily back, and his eyes closes, he gave little thought to where the others had gotten to. Jes had mentioned something about a shopping trip, which probably explained the empty apartment.

He heard no approaching footsteps, nothing to give away the fact that he wasn’t home alone. That was until someone made themselves comfortable in his lap.

“Didn’t think anyone was home.” His tone entirely unsurprised, one eye cracked open to confirm his suspicion that there was now a lavender Tiefling draped across him. The eye closes again and Fjord barely even moved, Molly did what Molly wanted, and this was no exception.

“How do you do that? Sneak around without making any sound?” the half orc asked after a short moment, in a voice heavy with impending sleep.

“Ja, what of it, Mollymauk?” He pours some of Nott’s whiskey over the lacerations, then attempts to mask his discomfort. Caleb doesn’t want to show his weakness, though it now lay in shards beside him. Jester could simply heal him, close the wounds without much thought, but she would question him. The party would question him.

It was bad enough Molly knew about it.

Caleb rests with his back to the wall of the washroom, thinking little of the act as he absentmindedly wraps his hands as he has many times before. Blood seeps through the white fabric, and he frowns at the sight. Though the mirror is scattered now, he can still see the reflection of a child no more than sixteen, blue and silver robes on his body.

Perhaps Bren was catching up to him, after all.

he does plenty of embarassing singing and dancing and pissing when he’s shitfaced, but in caleb’s opinion, That One Time He Ate A Whole Bag Of Coffee Beans. which resulted in him not being able to sleep, getting the worst migraine he’s ever experienced in his entire life, and being overly caffeinated for at least the rest of the week.

candle light flickers across her features, warming her skin to a deep gold. her hand is pressed under her chin, teeth worrying the nail of her pinkie, her eyes narrowed and focused on the map before her.

pins hover just above the surface, held with magic, following as she pulls the paper closer.

“ we’re so close, almendra. “

infernal purrs from her, clipped with frustration, edged with excitement.

sitting up straighter, she runs a hand through her hair, the new silver streak glinting like metal. she pushes it back, not wanting to see it. not wanting the reminder.

the price she’s paying...... it’s worth it. it has to be.

they’re so close.

finally she looks at almendra. despite the concern her friend has just voiced, zahiri is still surprised to see it matched on her features. for just a moment anger flashes hot against her ribs, but she breathes, soothes it.

almendra has never deserved her rage.

sighing, she stands with that familiar practiced care, stepping up to her companion’s side. holding out a hand.

“ i am fine. i promise. and soon i will be even better. “

there’s a pause and, for a moment, she looks uncomfortable; a strange sight on her.

“ i hope you know that having you with me- it means- “

she pulls in a breath, forcing her shoulders to relax, her body to find certainty again.

“ i am grateful. “
