THE RESIDENTS: ONE-MINUTE MOVIES (1980; The Residents)
In memory of Hardy Fox (1945-2018), aka Charles “Chuck” Bobuck, who in the last months of his life confessed that he was indeed an original member of the Residents. Not that the anonymity matters to us as fans; the music is just as weird and wonderful (or, if you don’t like them, weird unlistenable crap) whether or not you know their names.

Bobuck Plays the Residents - Charles Bobuck (2017)
Tumblr media
Longtime Resident Chuck Bobuck (recently retired) reimagines several classic Residents songs in his own ever-evolving style. One of the best parts of this album is his voice - he’s not a singer, and his vocals have a weak, insecure quality that’s absolutely mesmerizing. I’d recommend this for any serious Residents fan.

Place yer bets! Place yer bets!

What’s the over/under on number of dates actually played? We need to start a line.

Here’s hoping the “World Peace…” re-release comes in a super deluxe edition with one of those groovy “Harvest” t-shirts. Or at least give us the chance to score one at the show’s merch table.
Schmeckle
I’ll believe this when he cancels it!
steinomite
And how many of these dates will be cancelled?
Ken
I was hoping for an LA show so I could buy tickets, the promoter could hold onto my money for several months and then give it all back to me when Morrissey cancels the show.
Jerry
Bloomington/Normal?! Could he actually draw a crowd there?
giamby
Yes. Yes he can. That’s where I’ll be seeing him, should the tour last that long.
DJ
Laura
So, maybe he’ll come back after this tour? Maybe? Yeah, right. You’re full of it, Moz, just as full of it as the people you call out in your songs.
Jay
What’s the spread? I’d like to put a heavy bet on “show cut short in Durham” and “show canceled in Akron”. Add a covering bet for a botched talk show appearance and/or big blow-up in NY somehow due to cocaine. If the tour isn’t completely scratched by then, all-in on “physically attacked by Amanda Palmer”.
jos
I’ll match your ‘show canceled in Akron’ and one up you on the whole thing being canceled by Nashville, with a two day spread between Detroit and Cincinatti
Joe
DJ – he is playing Worcester on June 24.

MORRISSEY ISOLATION TOUR 2015
no opening act no fans touching Moz no germs no cancellations

That’s it! He’s gonna make it this go around and is on the Atkins Diet.
jos
We all know this tour will never happen or get canceled half way into it.
Chris H
Be happy that he cancels shows. I paid over $40 as a teen for a show on his Your Arsenal tour (a lot of money for a high schooler in the early 90’s) and the sonofabitch played for 40 minutes, didn’t perform an encore, and the show was over. I WISH he’d have cancelled the show…
Scott Stalcup
Dollar a minute? That’s still cheaper than the 976 lines of the era, though I’m guessing Moz didn’t at any point do “The Freak” like Freddy Freaker onstage either.
Dan
Still so angry about $40 for a show twenty years ago? Can’t imagine how mad you’d be if it was your own money and not your mommys.
Chuck Bobuck
$40 was a lot for a ticket 20 years ago, which he probably paid for himself. While 20 years later Dan, you’re still living in your mommies basement being an ass to someone who had a legitimate gripe. Get a life loser boy!
Skav
Um, I understand the skeptical (and humorous) nature here, but, I mean, the guy does have cancer. It’s possible that he’s trying his best under the circumstances.
Dean
One of the biggest Moz fans around but really? There are probably people here in this comment section who have had skin cancer spots treated and go to work the next day. It’s just what Moz does. We expect it. Still love him though.
Mike
Is he Still Ill? I was just wondering so I could send flowers.

I can’t believe I only now found out:
Hardy Fox, co-founder of the Cryptic Corporation (aka Charles “Chuck” Bobuck) passed away the day before Halloween. His band client, the Residents, is perhaps one of the biggest reasons I turned out like this. If it weren’t for them, I may have never learned to love experimental music, I’d have never made the friends I did or encountered the people I look up to, or even gotten to know who they were. I probably would never have even started this project if it weren’t for them, or rather, what they introduced me to.
Fuck what Garden State said: it wasn’t the Shins who changed my life, it was the Residents.
His memory lingers, like cloth on my fingers...

Holding a Hallowe'en wax wake for Hardy Fox. This seemed like the right place to start: Snakey Wake.
sing with thy mouth sing with thy heart like faithful friends sing loath to depart though friends together may not always remain yet loath to depart sing once again - anonymous, 1609
I know Hardy loved Hallowe'en, as he often posted free songs and other ephemera on his various channels over the years, so it feels more than appropriate to eulogize him today.
