Maternal Grandparents: Hendri and Amoy Subagyo (nee Fong) met in Indonesia as children. They grew up together and got married very young. Hendri and Amoy moved to America with the help of Hendri’s brother, Badri, who had already immigrated there. Badri got Hendri a job in a construction company and Amoy began working as a seamstress before having their daughter, Alice Subagyo. Hendri died at the age of 46 from a heart attack and Amoy moved back to Indonesia eight years ago.

Background
Kate was born in Denver, Colorado during the happier times of her parent’s marriage. Though those happy times did not last very long. She didn’t know a time when her parents weren’t fighting with each other, but they doted on her often. It was honestly a bit of a relief when they divorced. Kate stayed with her mom, but often visited her father. Their home was in the Lakeridge District. Her mother didn’t finish college after she fell pregnant and had a variety of odd jobs over the years. From a waitress to a substitute teacher to a daycare worker. Alice got married several times, but again, these often didn’t last. Alice seemed to want a better life than they could give her, one she felt she couldn’t achieve on her own.
While her mother’s life was a bit more chaotic, her father’s life was much calmer. He settled down with an older woman who already had kids mostly grown. They lived a quiet, happy life and are still together. They were never very rich, but Kate never felt like she was lacking for anything. Both sides of her family connected her to her Chinese-Indonesian culture, especially her mom given her status as a first generation American in her family. Her grandparents being close by helped as well and she appreciates where she comes from, though she does not speak much Indonesian. However she does often cook foods she learned from her family.
Growing up, Kate was one of those people everyone liked. Her kind nature and genuine attitude towards people drew them to her. Ask around people she graduated with and they would say she was always nice. Most didn’t know her that well, but they at least had a kind word to say about her. She was encouraged by friends to join the cheerleading team freshman year, which is how she met her first love. He was on the football team, though he was often on the bench those first few years. But during the first game when she was cheering and he was sitting on the bench, they chatted a bit and they ended up agreeing to a first date. From there, they were inseparable.

They were the It Couple, the ones everyone talked about being together forever. You often didn’t see one without the other. As they got older, he became a football star and soon they were the ones winning homecoming king and queen, prom king and queen, all the things. They had all their firsts together and talked often about the future together. But reality quickly shifted when Kate fell pregnant just before graduation. She was terrified and wasn’t sure what to do, as well as being afraid of her family’s reaction and his. At first when she told her boyfriend, he was freaked out, but agreed to be there for her. They tried to tell their families together, but his family had always disapproved of her. They had never really accepted her and had hoped for better things for their son. He had gotten a major scholarship for football to a school out of state and wanted him to go there. They wanted Kate to get rid of the baby. Due to pressure from his family and them getting in his head, he told Kate he wasn’t ready to be a father, that he needed to go away to college and pursue his dreams. It broke her heart and they ended things.
He left and never came back, while Kate changed her plans, living with her mother and attending the University of Denver. While her mother wasn’t happy about her pregnancy, she still supported her daughter. She managed to attend some summer classes and most of the first semester so that she could take off the second semester and take care of her child. Her son was born in December and from the moment she laid eyes on him, Eric was everything to her. Since his father wanted nothing to do with him and neither did his paternal grandparents, she never told them about the baby or anything. Occasionally she saw them around town, but they never once asked about their grandchild. Kate’s parents were a huge help when it came to raising her son. They would take turns watching him while she attended university and worked. Her grandparents often came to help with him as well. And while it took a bit longer than normal, she managed to graduate university and become a teacher.
She loved children and was always good with them, so being a teacher had been her plan for years, especially thanks to her father’s influence with his own teaching career. She began teaching the first grade and absolutely loved it. Outside of her work, she fully devoted herself to her son. He was her entire life. She didn’t really date or even attempt to do anything without him. And while they struggled, they were happy together. Until Eric turned six years old and became very sick. He began having trouble eating, growing thinner and thinner, and unable to keep food down. At first, Kate thought it might be some sort of stomach bug, an ulcer, anything other than what it turned out to be.

After many doctor’s visits, Eric was diagnosed with pancreatoblastoma, a rare pancreatic cancer. He had tumors in his pancreas that had been growing for quite some time slowly. They began treatment quickly, starting with surgery in attempts to remove the tumors. During surgery, they found they were unable to remove some of the tumor, so he began chemotherapy. It was a long battle for two years with many ups and downs, but eventually, Eric just became too weak and the cancer too strong. He passed away at the age of eight, devastating his mother. It broke Kate to lose her son, the most important person to her. It was like she lost her entire life when he was gone.

She fell into a deep depression after her son died, all of it crashing down on her. She took a sabbatical from work and was barely able to leave her bed or home for almost a year. Her friends and family were worried for her, especially after one found her ready to end her life to be with her son. They encouraged her to attend grief counseling and she did. It took a long time for her to get to a place where she could get out of bed, that she could be a normal person again. The pain was with her always, but she could manage it. She came back to teaching eventually, her coworkers welcoming her with open arms. At first it was hard being around the kids, realizing her own son would never reach their age, would never grow older.
Over the years, she has managed to put herself back together. She is a great teacher and still has kids coming up to her to this day, saying she was their favorite teacher. In her social life, she very much keeps to herself, still never having really been with or dated anyone since her first love. She attempted a few dates, but they never worked out.
Personality:
Kate is a very kind and empathetic person. However, she is also very shy and quiet at times. People would describe her as the girl-next-door, the one everyone likes and gets along with. After everything happened with her ex, she became more independent, more hard working to provide for her son. Once he passed away, she became even more reserved, keeping to herself more often. In recent years, she has thrown herself into all sorts of things to avoid feeling lonely and depressed. She volunteers at the theater, doing all sorts of odd jobs for Felipe, including using her old piano skills whenever needed. She is always coming up with fun things for her class, trying out new hobbies, and participating in every sort of city event she possibly could. During the summers when she isn’t teaching, she often even volunteers with the daycare center or library with children’s programs.

Ꮺ During the high tide 240 years ago, Elzaren was born into an affluent family of sirens. He was the youngest son and the light of his parents' life. They adored him and gave him everything he wanted; everyone knew him and his family, and they knew he would grow up to become just like his father. Someone who used his wealth to take care of the people in need. However, his family's unwavering trust would be the thing that doomed them in the end.
Ꮺ When Elzaren was ten, his oldest brother met a woman on land. She was picture perfect, everything he had ever wanted. Despite their friends warning his family, pleading with them not to trust the humans, they welcomed her with open arms. His brother told her everything about his family; more importantly, he told her about their riches and where to find them.
Ꮺ It shouldn't have come as a surprise when, one night, her family arrived on boats to steal their wealth. They hunted his family down and took everything they owned. In the chaos of that night, Elzaren got caught in their fishing net, where he was stuck thrashing around, trying to escape to help his family, but he was stuck having to watch it happen without being able to do anything.
Ꮺ Still, to this day, Elzaren has no idea how he escaped. One moment, he was in the fishing net screaming as it cut into his skin, and the next, he woke up at the bottom of the ocean, hurt but alive.
Ꮺ After this incident, his family name was ruined. They were now known as the fools who trusted humans and let the humans ruin them. Elzaren was left with nothing. That didn't stop him; he was determined to make something out of himself.
Ꮺ As he grew older, he realized he had the talent to get people to trust him. He would gather information for gangs and other criminals by flirting with and charming their enemies, and sometimes, he would even lure them into the ocean with him.
Ꮺ It didn't take long before the royal family noticed him and offered him a job. For a while he refused, but his vision of a better life pushed him to accept the job. Now, after working as a spy for about 200 years, he is incredibly talented, but he still refuses the offer of becoming the spymaster for the royal family. He had the skill to do it, but he wouldn't have been able to deal with other people.

Ꮺ He is very eccentric and definitely not everyone's cup of tea. He can be overly dramatic and very flirtatious. However, it's all an act. This persona he has created has been the shield that he has built from a young age.
Ꮺ The truth is, he is very distrustful of everyone. He assumes people will betray him for selfish reasons; therefore, he uses that as a justification if he decides to betray others. However, he is loyal to the people he cares about and wouldn't betray them. (he's just a dumbass lbr).

the fifth out of six total kids born, jingfei was very well loved when she was born. from the time she was born, she had a ll the love in the world from her parents and siblings. growing up, it became evident that jingfei, or fei as she was called, was more like her mother. from an early age, she came to love things from the human world. to her, being around them in a sense was more fun. though the fun didn't last for long. with her parents wanting her and her siblings to focus on school. that was what she ended up doing. even if she didn't want to do that. with a private tutor, jinfgei learned everything she was supposed to learn.
during all of this, jingfei became interested in dance. something her mother once used to love doing when she was younger. after begging her parents constantly, they finally agreed to get a dance teacher for her. balencing both her studies and dance lessons, she did her best to stay on top of them both. years passed, and once done with her studies, jingfei took it upon herself to leave celestria. though not without convincing her parents. for her, she wanted to attend college outside of the city. her dream of going to college there took her to yale university. where her parents had managed to get her in. but only on the condition that she would come home every weekend. which she agreed too.
she attended the college with dance as her major for four years. after graduating, she returned home. another deal she made with her parents. return home after graduating from college. she knew her parents were only worried for her safety was the reason why. returning home, she moved into a small cottage that was on her parents property. to her, it was all about having privacy. she was at that age any way. privacy over everything else.

The Story: TDLR; Prince and the Pauper Antics
Being born to a family of malakim, the route was to be expected. There were twins born, said to be a blessing from Vitalis. But like the tail of romulus and remus, only one twin would have been the guardian to represent the brightwhisper clan and it was the strong one the one who wasn’t afraid to speak his mind
That was Andros…..Sorra was his polar opposite
Sora was the meek twin compared to Andros. He was the one who was marginally worse at fighting and bravery, essentially the whisper in brightwhisper
However Sora had something Andros didn’t…dedication to a job
It started simple one afternoon, when Andros didn’t feel like training. So he told the then very identical twin to do a favor. Go to training
Sora was shocked but decided it was the right thing to do. It was only once right
However Andros asked again and became once a week rather than one time. Sora would have said something but being the meek one he opted not to.
Age did eventually slightly differentiate the two Andros opting to get tattoos and piercings while Sora just gained a pair of glasses and lighter hair. Surely Andros would have known better than to recruit Sora
Wrong, he just told Sora to wear contacts and tuck his hair in a cap, as he had a special mission (spoiler it was Andros going out)
It wasn’t that Andros was ungrateful but he was rethinking his own path. He even compensated his brother with various sweets and cookbooks after.
And Andros for what it was worth had a knack for being a protector

CHAPTER I HATCHLING tw : infant death / murder
it begins with an egg. in some ways, it ends with an egg as well. the hatchling breaks free from the confines of the shell, warbling pitifully as tiny sparks arc from its spine.
the parents watch on, not willing to intervene in this, the first step of self-discovery, as the child treads on its own tail and squeaks at the new sensation.
it seems heartless, to go against the instinct to help such a small creature. it seems wrong, a deep flaw in the foundation of reality. but nonetheless they hold back, because they fear the consequences of showing affection would be worse.
the truth is, artemis is not their parents' first child.

the knowledge that their parents are cowards, afraid to get too close to their child lest the nearby town of humans seek to harm them, sours the relationship between artemis and the elder qiús beyond repair before they are even a century old.
they leave the safety of the mountains, spending many years travelling — frequently in human form, more easily able to go undetected where dragons are not welcomed. they find other communities of dragons, dwindling in numbers and pushed further and further into remote areas as human kingdoms and faerie courts sprawl beyond their rightful borders. they gain a reputation amongst their kin — guardian of dragons, protector of hatchlings.

CHAPTER III MONARCH tw : death mention
the previous monarch of the dragons passes away when artemis is in their four thousands. they have no living family and so it falls to the remaining dragons — few of them that there are — to select a new ruler.
to the others, the choice seems obvious. they have guided and helped their fellows for so long already, it would be wrong to choose anyone else. the vote is nearly unanimous — even their estranged parents are in favour of artemis taking up the post.

APPENDIX I PERSONALITY
artemis has trouble thinking of themself as a person, sometimes — a side-effect of being older than ninety-nine percent of other beings. as a result, they can come off rather brusque at times, often without realising it. and if you find them staring into space somewhere, completely unaware of the goings-on around them ... it's best to leave them be.
when it comes to decisions about ruling, they think logically, strategically. they weigh up what will have the most benefits to their people, what will have the fewest negative consequences. some might think that logic is cold — but that is untrue. the best, most effective logic is grounded in emotion and connection with others, and that is why artemis has been so successful as a ruler.
a good rule of thumb is to never get on a dragon's bad side. mostly because of their size and elemental powers — but in artemis' case, not just those. if someone threatens their family or people, artemis' vindictive side can start to show. violence is second nature to large reptiles, and this dragon is no exception.
APPENDIX II CONNECTIONS
family artemis has two siblings — both a fair bit younger than them, though that's unsurprising in a family of dragons all over a thousand. the elder of the two is artemis' heir, and has a spouse & child. i imagine that due to artemis' inherent personality traits they're not super close to their family, interpersonal relations are not their strong suit, but they do love them very much ( even if they're bad at showing it ).
allies being significantly older than the vast majority of other residents of the city, genuine friendships are difficult to come by, the difference in life experience being somewhat insurmountable. but as a noble, alliances are expected of them — and their established rules make it easier to slowly bridge the gap of age. close allies, distant allies, allies who have been allies so long they're more family friends than just allies ... you name it, i'd love to see it.

Safiya has had multiple bodyguards in her life but there was one in particular who believed the Moonsong children should be able to protect themselves in both forms. Learning martial arts was step one and step two was learning how to disarm someone and step three was knowing what to do with a firearm and how best to hold a knife. Safiya particularly took to the guns and has been known to frequent the gun range.
Despite her status of bastard child, Safiya has a full princess title and her father made sure her illegitimacy has no bearing on the line of succession, much to Safiya's annoyance who wants nothing to do with the shifter throne.
Safiya has a birthmark on her shoulder that she shares with the king and some of her other siblings.
Definite party animal, she's had more than a few one night stands and has no qualms about the species of anyone she beds.

3. BIO
The second in line of the Moonsong throne and bastard of the Shifter King, Safiya came into the world destined for the headlines. She was only two days old when she was abandoned on her father's doorstep and while some would have simply made her 'disappear', she was taken in and raised with her older brother and the rest of the Moonsong children that followed her.
They say it takes a village to raise a baby, and the pack was very much her village. When her 'parents' were busy, Safiya was often left in the care of one of her paternal grandparents or one of her wolf ‘aunties’. Everyone was considered family, even if they weren’t blood related.
Of course Safiya was an unruly kid from the get go and while she did attend the finishing school her father made her go to, she also took part in self defence training and other activities that weren't particularly ladylike. She took a shine to the families collection of cars and learned to drive as soon as she could, never letting anyone else drive her. A series of parking and speeding fines have followed her ever since, but it's nothing that her family haven't made go away over time.
Art has always been Safiya's method of relaxing when she hasn't felt like partying. She has many pieces of clothing that are paint stained and just as many thrifted jackets that she's purposefully painted to create a unique fashion item.

BIO:
Dara McGourn was the youngest of four and was born into a family of hard workers. Everyone had something exciting going for them- his older sisters were all heading to different parts of the world on exciting adventures. Growing up outside of London, he always felt a bit of pressure to find his own niche. Dara did well in college but always had his parents breathing down his neck about his grades and extracurriculars. It led to some rebellion on Dara's part- college had Dara going from an honors student to a bit of a partier, and right back to collegiate like the changing of the tides. All the while they started having a bit of an identity crisis, not knowing where he truly belonged.
Eventually Dara graduated by the skin of his teeth with a degree in chemistry. But his parents were still pushing him- why not go for a masters? Then he could be a professor, after all. Most colleges wanted you to have a masters. So Dara went back to school. Their mental health suffered, and they were exhausted every day. But they went. After a few failed relationships due to over-working and prioritizing academics over personal life, Dara realized something needed to change. He hated his life, and couldn't keep anyone close. And all the while, his family was beating on him to keep climbing the collegiate ladder.
After grad school, Dara moved to the United States. There was an adjunct professor and lecturer position open in Denver and he wanted to get away from everything he'd been stifled with. Getting paid to move to a brand new country was exciting, and being so far away from everything he'd ever known was even better.
Dara moved to Colorado 2 years ago and they've been enjoying their time. Teaching chemistry has been fine, but moreso he loves exploring. Dara's always been a bit of a conspiracy theorist and so he loves investigating old buildings, listening to ghost hunting podcasts, and engaging in silly cryptid stories. He loves to joke around and take the piss out of things- so sometimes it's tough to figure out if he actually believes in these things or if he just thinks they're neat.
HEADCANONS:
-Dara is a demiguy! He uses he/they pronouns and identifies as queer. He knows he's into people of varying genders and loves expressing himself in different ways- sometimes more feminine, and sometimes not.

- not wanting to hear what her mother had to say, jules stayed out of the room that her mother and grandparents were in. though when her grandparents came out, she could see how mad they were. that was enough for to tell that her mothers reasoning wasn't good enough. that or it was bullshit. reguardless, juliette cut off any relationship she had with her mother from then on. to her, the woman was dead to her.
- with no real reason to stay, jules left the city. opting to travel around, she went from one place to the next. after being away for years, juliette finally returned. some time after returning home, through the money her grandparents had saved up for her, she opened up her own bar & grill. a place for just about anyone to come too and enjoy the food.

- when jules first learned how to cook from her grandmother, to say she wasn’t the best at first was an understatement. she ended up over cooking the grilled cheese she had made. but over time, she improved her skills
