Tumblr media
Understanding the Lifespan of Terrazzo
Terrazzo is a composite material made by combining marble, quartz, granite, glass, or other aggregates with a cementitious or epoxy binder. Its longevity largely depends on the quality of installation, maintenance, and wear and tear it experiences. On average, well-maintained terrazzo floors can last anywhere from 40 to 100 years or more.
Factors that affect the lifespan of terrazzo floors include:
Installation Quality: Proper installation is crucial for the longevity of terrazzo. Experienced professionals ensure that the mix is well-balanced and that the surface is polished to perfection.
Maintenance: Regular maintenance, including cleaning and resealing, plays a significant role in extending the lifespan of terrazzo floors.
Foot Traffic: High-traffic areas may experience more wear and tear, potentially reducing the lifespan of the terrazzo. Adequate protection and maintenance are essential in these areas.
Deep Cleaning Old Terrazzo Floors
When terrazzo floors start showing signs of wear, deep cleaning is the first step in the restoration process. Follow these steps to rejuvenate your old terrazzo floors:
Clear the Area: Remove any furniture or objects from the floor to ensure a clear workspace.
Dust and Debris Removal: Start by sweeping or vacuuming the surface to remove loose dirt and debris. Use a soft-bristle broom or a vacuum with a brush attachment to avoid scratching the terrazzo.
Choose the Right Cleaner: Select a pH-balanced terrazzo cleaner or a mild detergent. Mix it with warm water as per the manufacturer's instructions.
Test in a Small Area: Before applying the cleaner to the entire floor, test it in a small, inconspicuous area to ensure it doesn't cause any damage or discoloration.
Scrub Gently: Use a soft mop or a terrazzo floor machine with a soft-bristle brush attachment to scrub the floor. Avoid abrasive materials or harsh chemicals, as they can damage the surface.
Rinse Well: To get rid of any cleaning solution residue, rinse the floor well with clean water.
Dry Completely: Allow the floor to dry completely before moving on to the next steps.
Sealing and Polishing: Depending on the condition of your terrazzo, you may need to apply a sealer to protect the surface. Additionally, consider polishing the terrazzo to restore its shine.

What are the flooring options and considerations in a new restaurant design?
When it comes to creating a memorable dining experience, every aspect of a restaurant's design plays a vital role. Flooring, often overlooked, is a fundamental element that can greatly impact the ambiance, aesthetics, and functionality of the space. In this blog, we'll delve into the flooring options and key considerations that new restaurant designs should take into account.
. Tile Flooring
Tile flooring is a versatile and popular choice for restaurants. It comes in various materials, including ceramic, porcelain, and natural stone. Tile is known for its durability, resistance to stains, and ease of cleaning, making it an ideal option for high-traffic areas like dining spaces and restrooms. Additionally, it offers a wide range of design possibilities, allowing for creative patterns and customizations.
. Hardwood Flooring
Hardwood flooring exudes warmth and elegance, making it a favorite for upscale and fine dining establishments. It can add a touch of sophistication to a restaurant's design. However, hardwood requires regular maintenance to prevent wear and tear. It's best suited for areas with lower foot traffic and where spillage is less likely.
**3. Vinyl Flooring
Vinyl flooring is an affordable and resilient option for restaurants. It's highly durable, easy to maintain, and resistant to moisture and stains. Modern vinyl flooring comes in a variety of designs, including wood and stone mimics, offering a versatile and budget-friendly choice for restaurant owners.
**4. Concrete Flooring
Concrete flooring has gained popularity in contemporary restaurant designs. It provides an industrial and minimalist aesthetic that can complement a wide range of themes. Concrete is exceptionally durable and can be stained or polished for a unique and elegant finish. It's particularly suitable for modern and casual dining establishments.
**5. Carpeting
Carpeting offers a comfortable and noise-reducing flooring option. It's particularly well-suited for private dining areas, lounges, or bars where sound control is essential. Carpeting comes in various styles and textures, allowing restaurant owners to choose options that match their design concept.
**6. Terrazzo Flooring
Terrazzo flooring combines marble chips or aggregates with a cementitious or epoxy binder, resulting in a visually stunning and durable surface. Terrazzo is known for its versatility in design, with the ability to create intricate patterns and incorporate various colors. It's an excellent choice for restaurants looking to make a bold design statement.
**7. Bamboo Flooring
Bamboo flooring is an eco-friendly option that offers a unique, natural appearance. It's a sustainable material that grows quickly, making it an environmentally responsible choice. Bamboo is durable, moisture-resistant, and suitable for various restaurant styles, including those with an eco-conscious focus.
**8. Safety Considerations
Safety is a paramount concern in restaurant design. Flooring should be slip-resistant, especially in kitchen and restroom areas where spills are common. Ensuring that the flooring material meets safety standards is essential to prevent accidents and maintain a safe environment for both guests and staff.
**9. Maintenance and Cleanliness
Consider the ease of maintenance and cleanliness when selecting flooring materials. Restaurants require regular cleaning, and the flooring should withstand rigorous cleaning procedures. Non-porous and stain-resistant materials are ideal for maintaining hygiene standards.
Conclusion
Flooring is a foundational element in new restaurant design that should not be underestimated. It not only contributes to the restaurant's visual appeal but also affects its functionality, safety, and maintenance. By carefully considering options such as tile, hardwood, vinyl, concrete, carpeting, terrazzo, bamboo, safety standards, maintenance requirements, and aesthetic alignment, restaurant owners and designers can choose the flooring that best suits their concept, enhancing the overall dining experience and ensuring a lasting impression on guests. In the dynamic world of restaurant design, flooring is a crucial piece of the puzzle that completes the picture of a successful dining establishment. EPOXY TERRAZZO FLOORING

Epoxy Terrazzo Flooring – Luxury Custom Solutions
Epoxy Terrazzo Flooring is among the oldest and most flexible tenable floor options. It is defined as a composite material poured in place or precast. That consists of marble chips and/or other aggregates combined within a binder material, Concrete Grinding, sealed or polished to a beautiful shine.
Today this type of flooring covers an endless group of colors. It is well known for being durable and sustainable. Surely, flexible enough to entertain designs from very simple and classic to extraordinarily intricate and complex. As a result, from the royal palaces to today’s international airports, hospitals, and schools, terrazzo is a flooring canvas with infinite possibilities.
What Is Epoxy Terrazzo?
Epoxy Terrazzo is a decorative floor system with endless design possibilities with a wide range of colors. Its sanitation advantages result in the improved indoor air quality of buildings Metallic Epoxy Floor such as hospitals and schools.
Epoxy terrazzo uses an epoxy matrix to bind the stones and is one of the best thin-set systems. Thus, this decorative floor uses a resin composite; it rises only 3/8 inch above the concrete slab. This means it’s also lighter than other cement systems. Other great benefits include the large group of colors and pattern possibilities.
Modern stones and the founding of epoxy polymers provide even more tenable and durable systems than cement floors. In other words, we can combine post-consumer and pre-consumer recycled content with epoxy resin to create truly ageless flooring.
Firstly, epoxy Terrazzo Floor is a non-porous coating with no grout joints. Thus, it does not allow microbial growth and does not support the accumulation of water. Besides, the epoxy stone system absorbs water at a rate of 1/10 that of a cementitious floor, resulting in increased stain resistance. This lack of water absorption and porosity can minimize cleaning and maintenance processes.
In fact, you can’t use all-purpose sealers or purely surface waxes; this can result in slippery surfaces. Also, avoid any cleaners containing crystallizing salts or acids; this can harm your floor. At the same time, it does not need daily vacuuming or steam cleaning.
What Are The Benefits Of Terrazzo Flooring?
Surely, the greatest benefit of terrazzo for interior designers and architects is how flexible the material can be from an application point of view. You can create any logo, text, medallions, or virtual pattern imaginably.
Durability. They have an outstanding durability and performance record for over a thousand years. This system will last the life of the structure. In many older buildings, a contractor can restore the floors to their original luster with minimal costs of replacing the finish.
Low Maintenance. Both cement and thin-set epoxy terrazzo floors have small maintenance costs. Annual stripping and resealing can apply environmentally friendly water-based products.

THE BEST OFFICE FLOORING: YOUR GUIDE
Tumblr media
The two main factors to take into account when selecting workplace flooring materials should be aesthetics and usability. A single flooring material will probably not be enough for a full office because each area serves a different purpose; what works in a waiting room or lobby won't always work in an office kitchen or breakroom.
The ideal method for choosing office flooring materials is to visit each location and choose materials that are appropriate for that space. Office flooring materials should also be in line with your budget and design preferences. Let's go through some of the key areas that should be taken into account while selecting office flooring.
AREA OF THE LOBBY AND RECEPTION
When choosing flooring for the foyer of an office building, durability and design are crucial considerations. Clients, new hires, stakeholders, suppliers, and other visitors access commercial properties through the lobby. Therefore, the flooring in a lobby or reception area needs to provide a good impression. Additionally, it must be able to resist heavy foot traffic without displaying signs of wear and tear; not only does foot traffic volume crucial, but also the kind of weather those feet will be walking through. For instance, visitors may have salt on the bottoms of their shoes if your workplace is in a location where there is a lot of yearly snowfall.
Here are some excellent illustrations of long-lasting and attractive office flooring choices for foyer and reception areas.
premium vinyl tiles (LVT). enhances performance while faithfully simulating the appearance of natural components with an extra layer to provide protection against wear and tear. This additional layer is made up of a thick UV-cured urethane aluminium oxide film finish that makes it scratch-, smudge-, and stain-resistant. While flooring materials that mimic wood are sometimes referred to as luxury vinyl planks, imitations of stone, marble, and ceramic are frequently referred to as luxury vinyl tile. It provides a wide range of finishes and style possibilities in addition to integrating smoothly into almost all interior design schemes.
Terrazzo. The Hollywood Walk of Fame is one of the most well-known examples of Terrazzo flooring in both the United States and the rest of the globe. Terrazzo office flooring is a composite material that is poured in a precast utilising cementitious and polymeric binding and is made up of glass, granite, quartz, and marble particles. Extra chips are added to the mix before it sets up like glitter to give the flooring additional sparkle. There are several design options available with terrazzo, including distinctive patterns and logos. In addition to offering excellent longevity, it is also incredibly easy to use and clean. The cost of installing Terrazzo is the only drawback.
Wooden surfaces. The incomparable natural beauty of hardwood flooring complements any design, whether it is classic, modern, or different. Oak, Maple, Cherry, Walnut, Ash, and Mahogany are the ideal wood types to utilise for lobbies and reception spaces. These types of wood are ideal for high traffic areas since they provide a very hard, robust surface. Engineered hardwood (composite wood), an environmentally friendly alternative that offers many of the same durability and design advantages but at a lower cost to you and the environment, is an option for those who are concerned about the environmental impact of using genuine hardwood flooring (as well as its hefty price).
CONFERENCING SPACES
Conference rooms are hubs of activity in offices. Because of this, conference room design is essential; the flooring selection must complement the room's aesthetics and be somewhat durable. Durability is less of a concern for conference rooms because they frequently get less foot activity than common spaces in an office.
Here are some excellent samples of conference room flooring that is both long-lasting and attractive.
LVT, or luxury vinyl tiles (described above).
Wooden surfaces (described above).
high-end carpet tiles. For conference rooms where sound absorption could be a problem, carpet is a fantastic option. Additionally, carpet tiles are more durable than the majority of other alternatives, even if it isn't as much of a concern as it is in lobbies and reception areas. The only drawback is that maintaining carpet requires more work than maintaining wood or LVT. Luxury broadloom carpets may be less expensive than luxury carpet tiles, but it's important to remember that they are woven on a large loom and installed wall to wall.

So what’s terrazzo you asks?
Terrazzo is a composite material, poured in place or precast, which is used for floor and wall treatments. It consists of chips of marble, quartz, granite, glass, or other suitable material, poured with a cementitious binder (for chemical binding), polymeric (for physical binding), or a combination of both.
