Jemima has been hiding her psychic powers of memory-visions and mind reading from the rest of her tribe, fearing their judgment and association with her biological father, Macavity. However, she crosses paths with the psychic twin cats, Tantomile and Coricopat, who sense her abilities and offer to help her navigate and control them. She informs them with the memory of when she first discovered her powers.

Day 2 of @storyweaverofgondor‘s Cats-pril! The prompt was Memory, so I wrote a little Demeter-centred short. Also on Ao3 here.
The Memory Will Fade
Demeter awoke with a gasp, her fur standing on end. Her claws stuck in her blankets as she struggled for breath. It was a dream, just a dream, just a memory. She shook herself free and stumbled outside. The cool night air calmed her a little, and allowed her to centre herself. The nightmares had plagued her since she had escaped Macavity and come home to the Junkyard; she couldn’t remember the last time she had had a decent night of sleep. The line between nightmare and memory was growing evermore blurry.
No! She shook her head firmly, as if she could physically dislodge the thoughts. She would not allow herself to spiral again. The memories of Macavity would fade, she knew, it would just take time. As for the nightmares, she could only hope they too would fade. In the meantime, she would request something to help her sleep. Jenny and Jelly did not consider this speaking out of turn, they would not lash out at her.
…Everlasting, sometimes she didn’t notice right away, and then other times it slapped her in the face how fucked up things had been with Macavity. It was terrifying to think how that was her normal, how she hadn’t even questioned it at the time. But she knew better now. She was older, wiser, and a great deal happier than she ever had been. She had a family, friends, and a comfortable den; she had safety, and security. Some memories were not meant to live again.
