Beyond Boundaries - A Book By Nancy Castrogiovanni
Tumblr media
In the quiet corners of life, a subtle yearning takes root — an ache for something more, a search for purpose that often hides just beneath the surface of the everyday.
As each chapter unfolds, the narrative gracefully shifts between past and present, illuminating not only the artworks that graced canvases but also the vivid palette of experiences that defined A. Sans E.’s world. It’s a story of discovery, one that resonates with shared laughter, intimate conversations, and the quiet yet significant moments that shape a life.   “Beyond Boundaries” navigates the landscapes of memory and family history, tracing the footsteps of a life fully embraced. It’s a tribute to the beauty of heritage, a celebration of the enduring creativity that dwells within us all.   https://www.nancycastrogiovanni.com/book

Oh maybe you have some headcanons/thoughts about Henry's mother?👀
(i forgot her name😭)
i thought his mother was nameless💀 but the frankie potts file says her name was eleonore castrogiovanni
- i think she and henry’s father, silvio, probably had an arranged marriage. her family owed a lot of money to henry’s father so he made them the offer that he’d clear the debt if they allowed him to marry their daughter
- henry is the youngest and a huge mama’s boy
- she was obsessed with the idea of preserving henry’s innocence because he was her youngest and she saw the type of men his older brothers were growing up to be due to their father’s influence
- she and silvio always argued about whether or not their sons should involved in the family business
- she was the one that convinced silvio to send henry to america (she was opposed to him setting him up with clemente but it was better than letting him stay in italy)
- she was the one who named henry. she found the name in an american baby name book

listed deaths confirmed as of 1938. the status and whereabouts of some individuals remain unknown.

the map is from 1911; if you can’t read the note, it says “siamo qui” (“we are here” in italian, according to google translate) with an arrow in the general vicinity of palermo. because nora’s surname was different, i assumed she had married and invented a husband.  i also liked the idea of silvio as a seventh son, but another set of brothers would’ve been hard to fit on the tree.

i probably won’t hold entirely to the dates which i made up, to be honest.

Nine Tips to Grow as a Performer — Nancy Castrogiovanni
Tumblr media
Today, I want to address a question that I have been asked many times during my career as a theatre director: How can one improve as a performer? Embarking on this journey is a thrilling adventure that anyone can undertake, regardless of age. It's all about embracing your passion and dedicating yourself to perfecting your craft. In this article, we will explore nine techniques to help you enhance your performance abilities.
1. Practice Regularly and Deliberately
Your dedication and passion for your chosen art form propel you to practice purposefully. It's not just about mindlessly repeating actions. The essence lies in passionately pursuing excellence and consistently striving to improve every aspect of your performance. To truly enhance your skills, adopt a strategic approach by dissecting your performance into smaller, manageable components. Consider each element with intent, whether it involves refining a single musical note, mastering a specific dance move, or perfecting the delivery of a line in a monologue.
Enhancing the effectiveness of your practice sessions can be achieved by setting specific goals for each one, such as improving timing, expressing emotions more effectively, or enhancing technical precision. Utilize tools and strategies like recording your performances to gain a fresh perspective and identify areas for improvement.
By practicing in various settings, you'll improve your ability to adapt your skills to different environments and audiences. Engage in activities that stimulate your creativity and encourage you to step out of your comfort zone.
2. Seek Feedback and Constructive Criticism
Embrace feedback as a valuable and priceless gift on your path to artistic excellence. Achieving mastery isn’t just about honing your skills in solitude; it involves embracing the insights and perspectives of others, making the act of sharing your work an important part of your progress. Remember, every master in their field once started as a novice, full of potential and eager to learn.
Seek advice and feedback from different sources, including peers who are on their own artistic journeys. They can offer both support and valuable perspectives, enriching your understanding of your work. This broad spectrum of feedback provides a comprehensive view of your art, highlighting strengths to build upon and pinpointing areas for improvement.
Remember, though, that the ability to receive feedback effectively is as nuanced as the art of providing it. Cultivating the skill to filter feedback is crucial, as it allows you to discern and preserve insights that resonate with your goals and overlook those that do not.
Grasping the fact that not all recommendations will be pertinent or helpful is an essential aspect of personal growth. This doesn’t mean dismissing criticism outright, but evaluating its source, intent, and applicability to your work.
3. Genuine Connections Through Authentic Performances
To forge a genuine connection with your audience, you need more than just technical skills. The true essence of connecting isn't found in flawless technique but in the authenticity and vulnerability you express on stage. Let your genuine self shine through every note, every line, and every movement.
Engage with your audience by being true to yourself, allowing your personal experiences and emotions to illuminate your performance. Remember, the performances that linger in the audience's memory are those that touch their hearts, not just those that catch their eyes. Shift your focus from achieving technical perfection to creating heartfelt connections, and watch your performances gain deeper significance and impact.
4. Stay Physically and Mentally Fit
In the demanding world of performance art, both physical endurance and mental agility are essential for excellence. Maintaining your physical fitness is crucial to meeting these demands. Regular exercise not only boosts your endurance but also enhances your overall performance capability, allowing you to tackle physically challenging tasks and sustain energy levels throughout lengthy rehearsals and performances.
Equally important is mental fitness, which plays a crucial role in artistic success. Participating in mental exercises, meditation, or mindfulness practices greatly enhances your focus, a vital ability for memorizing lines, hitting notes with precision, or executing intricate dance routines.
These practices are also invaluable for managing performance anxiety and stage fright, helping you remain composed and focused under the spotlight. By dedicating time to both physical and mental health, you lay a solid foundation for sustained artistic excellence, ensuring you're well-prepared to face the demands of your craft.
