The enchanter hadn’t planned to sneak up on Portia, though perhaps he had been stepping lighter during his stay at the palace, attempting to avoid the various people milling about in their day-to-day tasks.

Samael had walked up beside the maid planning to ask how she was that day, but had gotten distracted by the darkening clouds, a delighted smile crept onto his face at the sound of the raindrops hitting the window, the words falling unbidden as a sort of greeting.

The crimson-haired magician broke into a soft laugh at the mention of that ridiculous cockatoo, but stopped in surprise at the question. Following her gaze towards his left arm-covered up in one of his sweaters, a day out of the Countess’ presence-, rolled his shoulder a bit self-consciously at the attention.

“Mm, I don’t actually have an elbow joint there, but there are scars that ache a bit from the cold sometimes.” He said, and gave a shrug as he gestured to the false arm he wore with his right hand. “Then again,. the prosthetic also makes them ache, so it could just be that.”

Icy-blue eyes trailed back to the window, before turning to gaze at Portia again, a playful smile on the man’s face.

“Excuse me, but... I think I’m going to go for a stroll.”

                       For once, Reaver isn’t speaking. He’s merely staring at the woman before him with a devious look resting comfortably upon his features. She wasn’t of nobility, nor was she of high standing. She was staff. She cleaned here and there, helped to move various things, and what have you. And while normally he would have just ignored her, Reaver couldn’t help but feel the urge to torment her just a bit. So, silently, the Baron moved his hand and purposely knocked a vase over; his gaze remaining focused on Portia. No doubt searching for some sort of reaction.

Surprise visit

Walking through the forest, I’m careful to be quiet, listening for my crow in case there are any guards in this part of the palace. Pushing through all the foliage, I finally come to an opening, showing my sisters hut and my sister out tending to her garden. Smiling, I stay hidden for a bit, just watching her, it had been years since I saw her, and I wanted this to last -only to be startled by a cat. “shh” I whisper to the cat, shaking my head when i realize what I just did. Looking back to Portia, I freeze as our eyes make contact.

Samael yawned from where he was curled up next to Portia, once again hauled away from pouring over books and taking notes because he’d been awake working too long, and the maid was having none of his excuses.

“Hey, Portia.. could you just..?” The Enchanter reached over groggily, taking the woman’s hand and pulling it over to rest in his hair.

                   Reaver hadn’t even been completely inside the kitchn when he noticed how angry Portia was. With his foot halfway through the doorway, the Baron had to quickly step to the side to avoid a bottle of cooking sherry that she threw at him. She was likely mad at him about something, but Reaver really wasn’t the sort of man who cared for or about the of emotions of other people.

         “–You’re going to pay for that.”

                      “You know, if you keep that up, your face will freeze that way. Short and funny looking, could you imagine?”

                      This was all lighthearted teasing, of course. It was something he did to her quite frequently. Julian loved Portia more than life itself, and would never do anything to intentionally hurt her. Chuckling, the lanky sibling would peer over his younger sister’s shoulder, making his own height all too apparent.

“Who indeed? What a terrible burden it is, sharing gossip with a friend.” The Enchanter quipped, eyes rolling in a playful fashion. He’d finally been able to catch Portia with a day off, and had insisted they find a nice, quiet spot to sit and share all the juicy rumors and odd facts they each knew about this or that.
