again, retained from the “Indus can only focus on one thing at a time” concept! which in my head is still pretty much canon but trust me, it was better left implied. trying to fit in an explanation just muddied the whole story

Molly and Mera have SUCH a fun dynamic in this AU and it’s kinda too bad I didn’t get to explore it more because in EE you rarely have two competent people in the same room

I wrote this bit BEFORE Percy came into the picture and it ended up really perfectly, what with Percy’s whole knightly theme and taking offense to Molly knighting her XD

more foreshadowing! those dinosaur bones would’ve done a LOT more damage if Molly hadn’t activated her epithet.

he was just trying to tell her “it’s fine” the whole time :”)

I honestly thought swapping Percy and Sylvie was gonna be hard and then I was sHOOK when their voices were almost identical

MORE foreshadowing! on all three trivia points this time! 1) most people know that Jello stated how epithet tattoos form when an epithet is particularly strong, 2) Indus enjoys tattoos and would have a tattoo artist give him some, but, well, a tattoo artist is a person, so they couldn’t get close enough to his skin to work with it, and 3) of course he’s never broken a bone— he’s surrounded by a passive barrier at all times

anytime I had an opportunity to quote Spliinkles-senpai directly I took it

Molly’s moral agenda of “I’ll hurt anyone except a kid” was NOT planned out in advance but it turned out to be SO fun to work with, and a perfect excuse for why she wouldn’t just immediately knock out Gio (and later, Percy) on sight

my aesthetic is “kid’s cartoons that only vaguely allude to a much darker backstory if you think about them too long” :)))

this,,, may or may not be DIRECTLY stolen from a scene in Hoshi No Kaabii, which was the anime I watched at 7 years old and then hyperfixated on for YEARS

the fact that some people assumed this was canon, and that others decided to adopt it as a HC for canon Giovanni as well, is quite possibly one of the biggest compliments to my writing ever

I CANNOT tell you. HOW MUCH TIME IT TOOK ME. TO COME UP WITH A SUBSTITUTE FOR BEEFTON. the entire three-part Sylvie/swap!Percy battle was actually the hardest part to translate out out ANY of the scripts. I did so much rearranging. so many scrapped concepts. and I was SUPER relieved when people liked it as much as they did because I was on the verge of going feral XD

alright gonna take a break now :) I will return to these tho because commenting on my own stuff is fun, even if I’m just rambling into the void (and what is tumblr for, if not rambling into the void?)

by “I’m taking a break” I meant I went to go eat lunch

Giovanni is absolutely a gamer in every known universe

again: you have NO IDEA how long it took me to come up with an exciting “final battle” because there was no physical way to give swap!Percy any sort of Beefton parallel

a subtle nod to the first Parapet threads over on percival-queen :) actually, Parapet itself was the inspiration for Percy’s final attack; at one point the concept was for Percy to trap Gio and Molly in giant cages, but I realized that was a very stale visual for a “final battle,” so it was scrapped. although these obviously weren’t being animated, I wanted to write them as if they would be, so I was always keeping stuff like that in mind :D

technically foreshadowing? also one of my favorite lines at the time of writing it

everyone’s favorite anxiety cop :’) I was so excited when I realized I could slip her in XD (also she’s got a British accent because @stardemon39 introduced me to Meryl and she’s British so that’s just her voice in my head now)

even MORE stuff kept from the “hard to focus” concept! wow I’m kinda surprised nobody questioned any of this tbh but then again it IS Indus

the way I see this in my head is that really specific “cut so you can’t see their eyes but just below it so you see them smirk and it looks vague but super duper evil” because really, he’s NOT, he’s literally just smiling because he’s happy he might be able to help Mera, but his inability to express himself very much gives him that Ominous Vibe (TM) which really adds to his character and can also be seen as a somewhat subtle metaphor to how low-empathy people are generally perceived, in this essay I will

although it’s already obvious that Sylvie is Percy’s dad by this point, “well-rested insomniac” could be seen as foreshadowing for his epithet, if you didn’t know it already! Percy has insomnia, but Sylvie puts her to sleep with his dust every night. have I mentioned that I love them

that last line was based on myself as a kid

actually that’s a lie, I still do that

I was stuck on this part for a WHILE and kept trying to rewrite what happens in the show but it wasn’t working; finally I realized “oh actually Percy would never lie, let alone SUCCESSFULLY” and went into stream-of-consciousness writing instead and I gotta say it turned out way better than what I had planned

people went FERAL over the Indus reveal and I really couldn’t be happier about it; shifting “he can’t focus” into “his emotions are suppressed” was definitely the right choice

once I had solidified how I wanted Indus’s epithet to work I actually had to rewrite pretty much the entire last script (as well as the end to this one), so it was a great feeling when it was so well-received

it took me literally 10 solid minutes just rewording this one line to try to cleanly explain the entire extent of the epithet within one (1) sentence and if that ain’t the Writer Mood I don’t know what is

alriiiiiight! time to go do the dishes from lunch, next up is the finale of the museum arc (which I remember as being my favorite script alongside this one, out of all 7, so that should be fun) :D

ngl the whole backstory bit was just so fun to write. also rich girl mera

GET IT? GET IT? CUZ IT RHYMES WITH REFLECTION? GET IT—

and the Giovanni parallel of Molly’s first time standing up for herself!! aka local gremlin chooses NOT to pick a fight he can’t win for once

ngl I’m proud of this whole monologue by Indus because reading it is just like “oh yeah that makes sense!” and doesn’t give the impression that I took DAYS figuring out how to close all the plot holes (which I did)

I love Lambchop

I distinctly remember being REALLY happy about this part, for some reason. I guess because I destroyed the dinosaur bones and wasn’t sure how I was gonna get Gio up into the vent?

...ok this is worse than the McHammer joke, I’d like to have a word with my past self

HGBASDFKLGH I STILL LOVE THIS PART

can’t even tell you how annoyed I was that Indus needed to send the Amulet out on a little frisbee because physically he cannot get close enough to Percy to just grab her/tap her with the Amulet himself and that felt SO stupid and anticlimactic to me but hgsdhfklgh whatcha gonna do

another little reference to Parapet from the RP blog! you can’t prove that Epithets AREN’T sentient beings that whisper influences into the subconscious

as I mentioned earlier: one of my favorite things in this project was to take lines of dialogue from the original and then twist them by changing their characters/scenarios

(the original is Molly talking about Giovanni in her first moment of standing up for herself because he’s inspired her; in this version, it’s Indus rationalizing hurting other people because of how much he cares for Mera)

for anyone that didn’t catch it, this isn’t just Molly somehow brute-forcing her way through— she activated Hushabye (which “unsummons summoned stuff”) to force the barrier to go away! the smashing effect was honestly more for the aesthetic ashgiksdlfhg (if Jello can have Mera summon blue fire for no reason I can have Indus’s barrier shatter into pieces for drama u-u)

in EE all of Giovanni’s boys are in love with him, so naturally all of swap!Molly’s girls want her to adopt them

ngl when I typed “you’d better watch yourself when you grow up” I stared at the screen for a solid second before going oH NOW I KINDA WISH THIS WAS A REAL SHOW BECAUSE THAT’S SUCH AN EPIC PREMISE

like. the drama/angst possibilities of “I’ll protect you but only until you’re older, at which point we are sworn enemies and I won’t hold back?” can u IMAGINE the kind of familial heart-wrenching slowburn you could make with that premise

the best canon-to-AU line in the whole darn series

ok there was so much stuff I wanted to fit into the original but just couldn’t make work for the script at the same time as when the original joke was used, but then the opportunity came up LATER and I was like

me realizing I can fit in Molly’s patented “dumb” powers after all: >:O!

me realizing I can fit in THE HEADLIGHTS JOKE after all: >:OOO!!!

THE CONCLUSION OF HIS CHARACTER ARC!!! ....uh, sorta? he’s still aiming to be a criminal but now he’s not picking a fight with everyone who he sees at least? X’D epithet is a weird show idk

okay, ALSO, trying to figure out this whole last part was really hard for some reason. trying to get Sylvie and Percy out of the picture so Molly & Indus/Mera could have a moment alone, while also making sure Gio had a ride home— it was a lot of frustrating technical “if this, then that”s.

admittedly, I actually wanted Gio to be the one to get the Indus/Mera moment because that'd be a more perfect “swap” of the original, but I knew from the start that Molly was gonna use her dumb powers to let Indus and Mera hug. so, y’know, sacrifices had to be made.

...so, uh. I was sleep-deprived because I stayed up late to finish the last script on time, and in my haste these two lines were originally typos (I kept the names “Giovanni Potage” and “Zora” rather than switching them).

so if u ever feel bad about ur writing please remember that everyone not only makes mistakes but apparently canon-shattering mistakes

aaaaand that’s it!

...I feel like I should have some sort of commentary about the swap!Museum Arc as a whole but I really don’t other than “it was one of the best experiences of my life to write/publish”

OH fun fact I guess I can share; I first decided to write the Switched Scripts while I was re-listening to the audio of EE for the 4th time while painting a house :D SPECIFICALLY, during the part in episode 3 when Molly breaks away from Indus and runs into the other exhibit; I was jumping up and down stimming rapidly because the show just gave me SO MUCH ADRENALINE with how good it was, and I suddenly went “I GOTTA REWRITE THIS WHOLE SHOW BUT WITH SPLIINKLES’ AU. THAT’S WHAT I GOTTA DO” kind of out of nowhere?

yikes. I’m... yeah it’s not the worst but I definitely got better at swap!Gio’s voice as I went

honestly the hardest part of this entire thing (besides maybe anytime I had to swap Mera and Indus) was figuring out what swap!Giovanni’s character arc was gonna be, since he obviously had the whole “stand up for yourself” thing down pat and he wasn’t in an inherently bad home situation

I debated for so long whether to keep the second half of this line or not and I am sO glad I did because the absolute whiplash everyone got from it was fantastic to watch

YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW PROUD I WAS WHEN I FIGURED OUT HOW TO REVEAL MOLLY’S EPITHET HSDHGASKDLFG

I loved it anytime I typed the exact same dialogue as the original show, but it hit TOTALLY different because of the characters involved. when Gio does this in canon it’s funny because he’s trying to act broody and dark but then his true nature slips through; when swap!Molly does it it’s TERRIFYING because she’s showing her true colors before putting back on a cheerful facade

if my original plans for the epithet: switched audiobook ever went through, I always planned on putting myself in the credits as Death Cap’s VA

also, a Death Cap is a type of poisonous mushroom! naming the swap!BB was fun

I read in a screenwriting book once that usually, the moral the MC needs to learn is stated somewhere really early on, though of course the MC doesn’t listen and it’s generally brushed off as a throwaway line. anyway that’s what this is :)

in case anybody didn’t get this: this is a Mario reference! the sound-effect is supposed to be the little “da-donk!” that plays when Mario jumps on top of a Goomba.

an example on how writers get paranoid and why it’s really hard to foreshadow: originally, the last trivia bit was supposed to be “favorite musical artist is MC Hammer—” which was very subtle foreshadowing to the twist of how Indus’s epithet worked (because... get it... “can’t touch this?”)

but SOMEHOW I thought that was way too obvious, because I’d been eating, drinking, and breathing these scripts nonstop, so I ended up changing it for an objectively worse joke that I now regret :/

THIS, however, WAS foreshadowing! Indus is telling the truth. he didn’t notice them come in or purposefully put up a barrier. his epithet passive (the “invisible barrier”) just came into range of the girls when he turned around, so it sent them flying.

this line was retained from an earlier draft of the script, which focused more heavily on the concept of “Indus can only focus on one thing at a time because of his mental barriers,” but that ended up making everything messier and more confusing, so it was scrapped.

certainly not my best script, but neither was E1 of the original show, so I’m fine with it! anyway onto the next one

let’s get right to it boys

in my head she’s doing the lame cartoon gag where they cross their arms over each other

IT’S FUNNY BECAUSE IT FITS HER JUST AS WELL AS, IF NOT BETTER THAN, HOWIE

same energy as/swap version of “Listen here, Mr. Police officer—” “It’s Ms.”

I tried to give him a gambling theme to give him SOME sort of different flavor from canon Zora, although apparently it made some of his lines confusing “-_-

listen I really love Yoomtah and Sylvie’s relationship. he pretends not to care but he doesssss

I feel like,,,, I ended up mixing motives a little bit here, but shhhhhh it’s fine

“I am NOT. a KID.” + “I’M NOTTA SQUIRE!!!”

little reference to some more Zora HCs that were later confirmed, regarding her powerset :3

I really liked this bit with the playing card, but oh BOY was the entire ending fight a giant knot to untangle. I spent like an hour trying to sort out one part in particular while my family played cards in the next room

very, very lame throwback to the McHammer reference in the Museum Arc which I regret

THIS WAS THE PART I WAS LOOKING FOR IN THE SCRIPTS WHICH MADE ME GO “I actually don’t remember writing any of this, I should do a reaction reading of my own scripts” BGJASDK

I HC that this is tied to how Ramsey lost his eye in this universe :3c

trying to write Ramsey’s voice was STUPID hard; I kept mixing Zora’s voice + accent and Will’s (Ramsey’s) voice + accent and those REALLY DO NOT MIX

there’s an improv game called “the hardest game in the world” where you have to mix two accents and now I see why it’s called that

this is 9x funnier when you consider the types of commissions Ramsey is known for

1. I am very proud of myself for figuring out a way to swap Zora’s speech

2. I got SO close to making Ramsey call Zora a “Stardew Valley character” but decided against it because I wasn’t sure if SDV was too much of a passing trend that’d become irrelevant. now I kinda regret that decision because it probably would’ve been funnier and it’s not like these were made for posterity

another small jab at Jello for THE INCONSISTENCY OF ERASER CUFFS

ok so

I originally had Percy as Sylvie’s daughter just because 1) I thought for some reason maybe that was a thing in the AU??? I think it was actually people going “haha swap!Sylvie would totally adopt swap!Percy on sight” but then like it turned into an ACTUAL thing in my head, and then 2) it provided a VERY good excuse to get the police into the museum in the museum arc because nobody ever calls the police or trips the fire alarm

but then by the time we hit this part, I was 1) in love with the Ashling-King family unit, and 2) thought that having Percy around really added motivation to Sylvie’s character, and also gave another dynamic to the bond between him and Zora, which is just (chefs kiss)

I had a split-second heart attack about “WAIT HOW DO I GET THE CUFFS OFF ZORA, SHE CAN’T HAVE HER ARM CHOPPED OFF BECAUSE I DON’T THINK SHE COULD REGROW THAT/EVEN IF SHE DID IT’D BE GRAPHIC, AND RAMSEY’S NOT EVEN TRYING TO CUT HER HE’S TRYING TO TURN HER TO GOLD—” before I remembered that gold is soft enough to bite through and I was like aw yes nevermind, I got this

hehehe :3

I knew I wanted a plot twist of some kind during the final battle because people wouldn’t be expecting it, but nothing that would impact the story, and this ended up working perfectly

also you know we had to get Beefton in there somewhere! :D

I, personally, think the gold cracks are a REALLY cool idea

everyone thank goldbricker-ramsey for that one

THE FACT THAT ZORA IS STILL TALLER THAN HIM KILLS ME

I do not remember deciding that the height chart was Zora -> Ramsey -> Sylvester but that’s how it is I guess

we decided (and by “we” I mean Mari) that since canon Zora hates kids, of course swap!Zora must LOVE them, hence her softening up around Sylvie a lot once she learns he has a daughter :’)

the hardest swap of the Museum arc was Mera and Indus because they were TOTAL OPPOSITES

the hardest swap of the Redwood arc was Ramsey and Zora because they were the EXACT SAME ENERGIES

again... I felt there was just a liiiiittle bit missing with canon Percy and Ramsey’s dynamic, and for me personally, this moment fills that missing bit in. but that’s just me and this IS my writing, so XD

so, just as a heads-up, apparently the people who did the audiobooks changed around some of these minor-character (well, “not-yet-revealed character”) swaps

and since they know the AC characters better than me, I’d proooooobably go ahead and use their swaps if this project ever did continue?? hypothetically??? basically these last bits are all still malleable

I wrote this entire scene with Trixie and Phoenicia before someone pointed out that Trixie and Phoenicia already had swaps in this universe

probably not. but hey!! it was super fun!!! the most fun I’ve had in a LONG time, actually. I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed a project as much as the Epithet Switched scripts.

Spliinkles thank u for letting me take ur awesome idea and just run wild with it, writer brain went brrrrrr and it was such an absolutely fantastic experience that I can only hope I get to relive :’)

redwood arc let’s go

for some reason I remember spending a really long time on this intro; like, the words weren’t coming out right and I couldn’t even think of an opening scene (not that what I ended up with was great)

...but this whole page is my favorite scene xD

it also took a while but when I realized “wait this is the swap version of my brotp” I knew I just needed to dig a little to find a golden dynamic and then boy did I

these two are idiots and I need to talk about them more often

the change from “preferred extracurricular activities” was changed to “astronomy signs” since... let’s face it... most of Percy’s dialogue could remain untouched and still fit swap!Sylvie, so I tried to find excuses to at least change the flavor to be sleep-related when possible

in another screenwriting book I read about how change in location can make a scene much more interesting

so everybody thank the author of that book for the birth of boxer!Molly (because I wasn’t sure where she lived yet and this was a good vague way to dodge showing her room)

(very mild tw below)

this was supposed to just make her vague and mysterious (like how Ramsey is originally shown in silhouette) but I think I accidentally just made her even more attractive

whoops

not as good as the line “well, I do have an... EYE for these things,” but the joke here is that Zora is an antique.

once again I love lines that are like “wait hold on—” and nope we’re just continuing into the scene, never gonna address that again

it actually took me a while to decide which of Molly’s girls got to take Fred’s role; at first I felt it should be Phoenicia or Trixie since they are her best friends, but later on I knew that whoever it was would have to get themselves stuck in the woods somehow, and since the “car crash” joke isn’t funny without— well, Car Crash— I had to find another way to basically leave them immobile for Detective Sylvester to find. Not knowing much about Trixie and Phoenicia, it was hard to come up with a way to do that without involving a bunch of other people (which I’d then have to get rid of before Sylvie came in), so I ended up going with Death Cap since

1) I needed someone with an epithet,

2) I already had the idea that she had mushrooms that could knock someone out via spores, and

3) Jello was probably joking about the “mushroom girl is the final boss” thing so he’s not gonna invalidate my made-up epithet

...on a related note, “Fiona Boss” is a lame pun on “final boss.” You’re supposed to say it with an Italian mobster accent.

I also decided (...back in the Museum Arc but shhhhh) since there’s no canon voice for mushroom girl, it would be cool to have her be mute.

and I was right. it IS cool. mute characters are awesome.

my beta reader thinks swap!Bugsy and Arnold are more interesting than their original counterparts and... I actually kinda have to agree

then again Bugsy and Arnold are my least-favorite canon characters so I may be biased

this ongoing bit is probably one of those jokes that was more fun to write than to read, but I really did have a fun time writing all their constant bickering

yeah I debated whether or not I was allowed to use this gimmick for a LONG time and eventually decided yeah, heck it

kid!Zora is largely responsible for how involved I got with this fandom; I have literally never been this active in any fandom, ever, with people latching so hard onto the ideas that I put out and then making their own works out of them and continually spinning this bigger and bigger web of fanworks and love for these characters

what was I talking about I don’t remember

So, there’s actually quite a bit to this line! In the original, Ramsey says:

“The make alone is pretty nice. ‘Bout 60 years old— Eh, 65, give or take. ‘Prolly worth at least a few thousand bucks.”

As you’ll notice, Ramsey was correct in his estimation— but Zora is even more accurate, because her Epithet lets her tell the age of an object down to the minute. She rounds to half a year for Molly’s sake. And the use of “pesos” rather than “bucks” (slang for American money) was 1) to imply that different forms of currency still exist in EE, and are slowly merging together like the languages did, and 2) as a small shoutout to the ethnicity headcanons of my Zora friends (before Jello actually confirmed her ethnic makeup publicly).

this is code for “I’ll decide Molly’s motivations to join the BB later”

*puts my hand to the screen longingly*

ms lockhart you’re one of my favorite characters and you weren’t even in the show

I’ve stated this on record NUMEROUS times but I can never say it enough

Eros is Percy’s weird uncle figure

I tried REALLY hard to stick with characters’ canon powersets, but in some instances it was absolutely necessary for them to fulfill their roles (i.e. here and with swap!Percy in the museum). anyway people seemed to really dig Daydream so that’s cool

Mela is a reference to Doctorsleepytime’s blog but he never read the scripts :”)

before I had a deadline it was really hard for me to find motivation to work on the scripts and VP Gorou ended up being my sole biggest motivator because I knew batsy would love him and I also knew batsy would actually read the scripts

thanks batsy

the Banzai Bees all having Howie’s disposition but a fierce loyalty to this big soft donut man is probably one of the purest things in the Redwood scripts, if not the purest

we never actually see Molly go fully feral in the museum scripts so it’s fun that we get to here. in my head she’s got the frazzled hair, the foaming at the mouth, all of it. do not mess with Molly.

to take the place of the mildly-customized Banzai Blasters, I needed some mildly-customized Worker Bees

I ended up using the OCs I created once on a whim

I died when I realized I had an excuse to make mistew wamsey canon

I had to add the Jenga tower because I realized Ramsey never fired a gun for Sylvie to hear hgksdaflghdsf

would you believe me if I told you I almost had Zora turn into a kid (and then continue pretending to be one for the majority of the scripts) to convince Sylvie into letting her go

you all know I hold the highest respect for Mr. Blaber as an incredibly skilled creative writer but even legends make mistakes and this is me calling him out on a poor choice of analogy

yes I see how it’s related because it’s about saving/catching the many vs saving/catching the few but STILL

zora: wait you can be a cop and also a good person?? wack

at first when I realized “wait, banzai VPs are supposed to work in pairs,” I was worried that I’d have to find another character to accompany Gorou

but then I realized having a partner who made him do all the dirty work and never went out with him was the most Gorou-like solution possible

THIS IS ONE OF THOSE LINES THAT’S FUNNY IN CANON BUT THEN THE SWAPPED VERSION IS SO MUCH WORSE

I wanted to emphasize how swap!Sylvie’s just a little bit less pure than canon!Percy. Percy immediately refers to Ramsey as “partner” once they start working together, even though he’s a criminal, whereas Sylvie at this point still very much sees Zora as a means to an end. It’s a small difference, but it’s there.

oh yeah I forgot to talk about how I ended up with an uneven number of characters to swap so instead of doing some weird three-way swap with Howdy, I just gave his role to the cat

and honestly that was one of the best decisions I ever made on the Redwood scripts

it still absolutely makes my day when people get excited over me talking to them; like habgsdklfgh I’m not Jello I’m just an awkward bean who likes to write?? anyway today’s been pretty good

GHHGASDGAKSDLFH I LITERALLY FORGOT I WROTE THE OPENING LIKE THIS

PFFFFF I GET DONE W/PRAISING JELLO AND THEN IMMEDIATELY GO ON TO ROAST HIM

Gorou being absolutely oblivious and his minions being the ones to drive the plot is hysterical tbh

every once and a while I write a line and then have to squint at it until I figure out where I stole it from because I hear it in a VERY specific voice in my head so I know it’s a reference but even I don’t know to what

anyway (Kirbopher vc) I’M NOTTA SQUIRE!

IT’S THE SWAP VERSION OF WHAT GIO DID TO SYLVIE IN THE MUSEUM

I’m not overly fond of the original bar fight but I wanted to go with the same goofy cartoon brawl aesthetic, so I spent quite a while throwing around ideas before settling on “Nightmare Fuel, but it’s Gorou so instead of being actually scary it’s giant talking donuts trying to eat the people”

I think that was a good idea :)

this was just my personal vendetta upon learning Gorou’s original powerset haijgklsdfhgbh

...but also a good excuse for a swap!version of the “nah, I’m just awesome” line XD

soooooo this was a BIT of a cheat, but I had to have someone drop Molly’s name and I knew it couldn’t be Molly herself because she wouldn’t be dumb enough to do what Gio did (no offense Gio) and every other way I tried to make it happen had other problems, so. Gorou gets to hint at Molly’s backstory! yay!

but also a very subtle reference to the fact that the cat (who is in Howdy Morning’s role) was part of a plot-relevant “government experiment”

just. a bunch of minions way more competent than their leader but they all refuse to be promoted and “leave the others behind” so they end up as these very highly-skilled but low-ranking Banzai Blasters

BECAUSE IT SEEMS LIKE MERA AND INDUS HAVE A PRETTY SOLID BREAKOUT PLAN IF THAT’S THE CASE. AND EVEN SO, HOW WOULD PERCY KNOW THAT ONE OR TWO “ZAPPY TOWERS” WOULD BE ENOUGH TO KNOCK HER OUT? SHE DOESN’T HAVE A NOTE AND SHE’S UNDER THE ERASER CUFF EFFECTS. SHE SHOULDN’T REMEMBER ANYTHING ABOUT PARAPET. SIR PLEASE—

one of the reasons I didn’t like Redwood Run as much as the Museum Arc was bc I felt that Percy and Ramsey didn’t have much time to actually develop their dynamic, so what they did have felt kinda forced and rushed. of course that’s not exactly Jello’s fault bc he only had THREE episodes to work with and a lot to set up, but I still did my best to give the swap duo as many little moments as possible.

I cared NOTHING for Yoomtah before writing this episode and by the time I was done I LOVED her

one of my fav artists drew this scene PERFECTLY and I now see it in their style whenever I read it

open/confirmed spoilers up ahead regarding Yoomtah:

so the whole “Yoomtah is a robot/cyborg who runs faster than anyone and has electric powers (?)” thing REALLY bothers me because Jello NEVER established that there was magic besides Epithets during the ENTIRE SHOW SO FAR (same with Phoenicia being a magical girl) and that’s just,,,, bbghdsjkg it took me a long time to go “okay, this was based on something else first, I get it, I can get used to the new rules” but gosh I just wish that had been set up better. then again I guess it’s nice that even the writers I admire the most make mistakes.

anyway, got off topic but I love how in the swap version, Yoomtah being a robot/cyborg/??? is just vaguely implied and never actually confirmed, it’s such a good running gag

I had. SUCH a hard time coming up with a reason for Sylvie and Yoomtah to have a rivalry, since Sylvie’s got no interest in construction work

and then literally my friend was like “isn’t Yoomtah the one who never sleeps?” and I was like “yeah, why— oh”

SEE? THINGS LIKE THIS. I THINK BUGSY & ARNOLD ARE MORE FUN AS OBVIOUSLY-CORRUPT COPS, AND I THINK YOOMTAH IS MORE FUN AS A CHAOTIC NEUTRAL WHO ISN’T ACTUALLY PART OF THE BAD GUY TEAM BUT IF YOU GET ON HER BAD SIDE SHE’LL TURN INTO YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE FOR .00092 SECONDS

I know I talk about this a lot but I was really so, so proud to finish this (& then the next script) on the deadline. I have discovered that shockingly enough, I like (creative) deadlines. Deadlines make me happy.
