"come in and shut the door. i need you to be honest with me." aurora set her pen down and rose from her desk. the day was almost over, and her other staff members had all but booked it out the door. it was a friday night after all. she walked around to the front of her desk, lightly sitting on top of it with her ankles crossed. "if i invited you out to dinner tonight," the older woman's voice broke the settled silence, green eyes flashing her assistant across from her, "would you say yes or no?"

"If you keep smirking me like that, I'm going to make sure I aim the quaffle at your head when we're off our break." Reid stated with an amused smile of his own as he glugged back the water from his bottle and wiped the cooling towel over his face and neck. "You know, just when I think you can't get more annoying..."

"I was thinking we could throw a little party for her here with her close circle of friends. That is unless you think she'd prefer a night out instead. I'm sure I could book a good restaurant or club." Orlando questioned as he sat brainstorming with Rory. Not that it was brainstorming so much as Orlando asking for the others opinion given he'd wanted to put something together for Evangeline's birthday.

"You're lucky you're good at what you do Goldstein because I think I have yet to meet anyone who is quite as much of a little shit as you are." Gwen half heartedly grumbled at the male as she moved a hand to mess up his hair intentionally, wanting to annoy him back a little.

"Maybe I should have gone for the white band..." Not because he was seeing anyone of course but doing this again... opening up to the potential of meeting someone beyond just a bed partner was something that made him slightly uncomfortable. Still, he was here now and he'd committed... at least in so much as to put one on. How long he stuck around was another matter.

Family was always important to Ben, he would do anything for them. It really hit him hard when Robert cut all contact with them and he was sad that they did not have a relationship and he was not part of his niece and nephew's lives growing up but he was happy that now he has a chance. He was happy hearing that Aurora was in town and she had her brother River. Growing up with siblings and being close to his siblings, he knew how important it was to have siblings and that support from them. "How are you liking East Haven?" he asked as he looked at the other.

That was their relationship summed up. They were forever winding one another up. “I don’t have glasses so if you’re not the type to drink out of the bottle with another person then I am not your guy.”

“You know it’s been a while since I’ve done this.” Though upon throwing the ball, it immediately hit its target. “I suppose that some things never quite leave you though.” He added with a shrug of his shoulders and a grin. “Are we continuing this?”

"I think they like you." Freya spoke as she watched how the dogs pandered to all the attention they were getting right now. They were in their element and the other didn't seem to mind. If they had, Freya would have called them away the moment they'd gotten close. "If you need me to get them to give you space, let me know. They can be a little overwhelming."

aurora could confidently say that any day in the white house was an unexpected one. ten months into this and as scheduled and to-the-letter as her aides and strategists tried to keep her, things still went haywire whenever the opportunity arose. today was just an extra dose of that. day three of what was supposed to be seven days in ireland was cut abruptly short with an online threat of violence that ended up being credible. this canceled her meeting with the irish president and his wife and had her secret service on edge, ushering her back to the airport with barely a word about what was going on. rory had hoped of getting something done this trip. and now here she was, back on air force one, being toted back to d.c.

the car ride from the air force base she landed at back to pennsylvania avenue was quiet, the blonde staring out the tinted window in exhaustion. it was an early morning, the sun barely rising, but the press were in hordes along the fences wanting to catch a glimpse of her going inside. she could see the headlines now - president wallace flown home after armed threat to irish conference. would it turn into yet another conversation about weaponry, here and abroad? her director of communications was already in her ear, mentioning how making it a talking point now would get her started on one of her campaign promises. all well and good, but rory at this point just wanted to get some sleep.

getting out of the car and walking with her secret service up and around to the residence corridor of the white house, rory plucked the hat off of her head and gripped it between two of her fingers. one of her men mentioned something about diamond was waiting for her in the west bedroom. that woke her up enough, even with the secret service codename for her. aurora quickened her pace, thanking them before striding to the closed door in question. everyone else returned to their normal posts, ready and out of earshot.

"hey, you. they let you in here without my clearance?" a horrible first question, in light of their time apart, but it was the first one that came to the tired woman's mind.

“Fuck! I’m dead. DEAD.” Reid stated from where he’d sprawled out on the grass, sweaty, exhausted but content as he wiped back the damp curls from his forehead and squinted up at Rory, a happy smile on his lips. “That was a good practice. You’re gonna be a force out on the field you know next match if you keep that up.”

“Well you make an impact.” Orlando complimented, amusement tilting his lips as he admired the costume that Rory had chosen. “I’m not sure why I didn’t see this one coming when I was speaking to Evangeline earlier on but I must say I’m impressed.”

"How is your boyfriend doing?" Aaron asked when he saw the familiar face. He'd heard about what had happened and figured he'd give them space until now when he happened across Rory. "If you need help with anything, let me know."
