Dottore doesn’t QUITE know how to respond to such a comment. It brings him to a halt in the empty halls of Zapolyarny Palace, his back facing the third harbinger. Science has no NEED of such appalling emotions, yet simultaneously they do serve to create a UNIQUE perspective. Maybe that is why the Doctor never truly removes them, though for all his words and actions one would assume him incapable of feeling regardless. But things like this, he shoves them down, shoves them away and ignored them till they ROT away and die. But it feels like Columbina has just burst through the walls and forced something vile into the sunlight.

It doesn’t matter. So what? But he’s tired...

He doesn’t so much as move a single centimeter even as he hears her footsteps closing the distance that spans between them. She is one of only two who MIGHT comment on this subject. On how Dottore has been UNUSUALLY quiet and up latter. Beneath the mask lay dark circles even by his standards, and many of the other segments sport a similar shade of darkness. Is that how she knew? Had she seen some of them? Or was it something else? A hunch? An observation? Does it matter?

It doesn’t. No one else was here, everyone else had left the meeting room first. Or so it had seemed. Evidently Columbina had only exited the room and tucked herself away to be unseen. Paired with the exhaustion that felt like it was slowly crushing him, Dottore hadn’t even noticed when he ordinarily would have even BEFORE he’d have started to walk down the desolate hallway. He’d walked right by her and it had been her voice to catch his attention first.

What does he say? He feels too tired to snap at her to mind her own business and not interfere in his. Besides, he knows very well that she will not. She rarely lets things go EASILY after all. Let alone a rare sight like this (for he few times he has left his lab that is). His eyes close as he exhales, shoulders slowly sinking in.

“ Things have...not been going well. “ For once, Dottore offers up the truth with little fuss. And he isn’t sure if he feels BETTER in finally sharing it with someone, or if he feels WORSE, like a crack appearing in smooth marble. “ My experiments aren’t at the levels I’d hoped, and I’ve not been sleeping, likely resulting in an increase of monoamine oxidase A. “ It means nothing to her, he knows that. “ ...It’s not a big deal. I’ll get my work done regardless. “ He feedbly concludes with, though far from delusion in thinking that will be enough for her.
