Thinking about how my top 3 favorite female Sonic characters are all IDW originals and wondering how much of that has to do with the fact that a woman (Evan) was/is heavily involved in their creation and writing.

#the characters are Whisper - Tangle - and Surge btw. if you're wondering.#it just made me wonder how many women have been involved in writing the Sonic games over the years #but when I search ''how many women are on Sonic team'' nothing comes up #and everyone who is mentioned as having written for the games are all men #which isn't necessarily a bad thing! men can write women characters well if they try #I mean Ian Flynn is a man and he also had a huge hand in the comics (obviously) and did right by Amy in Frontiers etc #but like . . . Amy has been handled atrociously in past games. and so much of her design revolves around her being a LI for Sonic #to the point where *the only reason she was made at all* is bc Sega wanted Sonic to have a LI #and then you look at Rouge's . . . everything. how she was only made to be 18 so they could get away with sexualizing her #Blaze and Cream are fine but they're much more minor compared to Rouge and especially Amy #idk. again men can write woman characters obviously. anyone can write anyone if they try #but like. you look at Rouge and you know it was a man who designed her #but you look at Whisper or Surge and you know a woman was the lead behind those designs #idk man. just thinkin about it.#also don't take this as Rouge hate bc it's not. she's my 4th fave Sonic lady #but it's just. you know what the thought process behind her was #and it's very exasperating even tho i love her despite it
