“ yes ! there’s eddy and ellie and freyja and — well, you know. far too many wolves ‘round here, but it makes for terribly fun family dinners. ”

“ losing maester rybeck was awful. he was always very patient with me during lessons, even when i was being a little terror.” jo quickly swipes her sleeve across her eyes, folding her hands back in her lap. “ i don’t know any motive, the maesters are meant to serve the realm aren’t they ? not any one king. do you think that there was some sort of information in the maester’s tower that someone didn’t want getting out ? ”

AN ANONYMOUS LETTER HAS BEEN DROPPED OFF TODAY ! i wonder what’s inside.
oh -- it seems there may be a traitor in the second estate. the king may have to watch his back, before this traitor leads revolutionaries to his door !
i’ve attached the letter below for all to read. do what you will with these words and pray your letters never fall into the wrong hands.
Today, Uncle brought word of a rebellion in the streets of Paris. His distress was evident - his manservant, he said, had disappeared during the afternoon and hasn’t been seen since. Uncle seems less concerned about the wellbeing of his manservant (Pierre), and more about finding new staff during such peculiar times. At first, I imagined disgruntled servants throwing up their hands in disgust at the ignorant and disgustingly indulgent nobility, marching out the door in frustration, but as Uncle continued to bemoan his loss, the story was painted more clearly. The horrific scene has stayed with us all evening, shrouding the evening in fearful whispers - will we be next? - and arrogant claims of the monarchy’s power over the insurgency. I see them as revolutionists. After all, why should some of us be royalty, while others suffer for each day? Their methods may be brutal - I shiver as I picture the Governor’s head removed from his body - but have they not suffered the same consequences for lesser evils? My mother prays they will never reach out doors, and I pray this as well. I hope they find revolution at the gates of the king’s doors, where the will of the people will be mightier than the will of pampered nobility.

as the investigations at winterfell begin , so do the inquests . investigators ( both of northern and southern origin ) pull guests aside , asking what questions they can to try and identify culprits and keep the tenuous peace. below , is the set of questions the inquisitor asks . be careful what you say - as little birds are known to flock nearby , particularly with the ravens missing their home .

[ set the stage : sunhwa steps into the room after nodding to the guard outside the door. they settle into the chair and give a small smile to the inquisitor. he doesn’t recognise them, but that doesn’t mean anything as to which allegiance the inquistor might have ]

‘ ser lee sunhwa, kingsguard and personal guard of rhaella targaryen. ‘ a smile, a shrug of the shoulders that lets the white cloak ripple down their back.
WHAT DO YOUR FRIENDS OR LOVED ONES CALL YOU ?
‘ i’m known by few as sun, though it is a privilege that has to be earned ’ his parents used to call him sunny, but that’s not a name he’s heard in more than a few years now.
WHERE WERE YOU BORN ?
‘ ashgorge. a small mining village near golden tooth, though i have no doubt it’s shrunk in size since i left it. ‘ a village who’s mines had near emptied when they were born, poor enough that even the bandits didn’t bother them frequently, relying just as much on their game and farming on the edges of the gully.
DO YOU HAVE SIBLINGS ?
‘ two. a younger sister and brother. i haven’t talked to them in years. ‘ minji, 33, a baker. he thinks she’s married with a child. harris, 32, a tailor. they both live in golden tooth, and what little he hears seems good.

‘ no and no. ‘ he smiles, a wry twist of the lips. ‘ it comes with the job.’ it’s true enough, though it can’t be denied that sometimes the thought crosses his mind.

‘ i used to. but ever since i left lefford’s lands, i didn’t - our lives split apart. ‘ he shrugs, no great emotion crossing his face. it is what it is, and any bitterness has long since been swallowed. ( does he wish it was positive? that it could have been otherwise? the decision was his choice to protect, out of love - no matter the conclusion others might inevitably draw )

they could talk about the ones from mormont, the gods of the north and the rituals that come down, the traditions of the bear islands, or the laughter of his siblings or the care in the callouses and scars that litter both his parents hands. ‘ how to darn my clothes really well? comes with having weavers for parents. perhaps my name, but little else. ‘

‘ i wake early, train, then accompany the princess to her duties. i’m afraid i can’t provide anything more specific, you’ll have to go through more formal channels for that. ‘ this time, sunhwa’s smile has an edge.

‘ the faith of the seven. i find myself often praying to each face. ‘ in truth? religion is a distant concept, faith something written into the lands but each as true as the next. they follow some of the animistic gods of the north during times of extreme stress, generally pay homage to the Seven, and occasionally whisper a prayer to bakkalon, especially when they were once naught but a child with a sword themself.

‘ i’m a kingsguard. ‘ military prowess, skill with weaponary, strategy, politics and connections.

‘ i’m far too gullible. ‘ they swallow the smirk but let the amusement dance in their eyes. as if they had a weakness, as if they were going to share.

‘ i’m surprisingly good at embroidery. ‘ the teasing strengthens as they raise an eyebrow once. it’s true, but they don’t have to know that. same with wood-carving, but even fewer know that.

‘ no. ‘ the smile falls from their face once more, settle back into their armour. they don’t say that it depends on the definition of love, on caring for the commoners or pride in the soldiers or winks in the corridors.

‘ the king. the princess. the royal family. ‘ the country. it’s people. more importantly, they would kill for them as well.

‘ hopefully in the same place i’ve been in for the past five. ‘ no. they want to be back at home with his siblings, with the throne changed to someone who is able to rule the country with something close to peace and prosperity.

‘ i’ve dedicated myself to the king and his family. it is them before myself, every time. ‘ the core is true, others before themself, every time. but it isn’t the king but all people, it’s the country itself. the promises of knighthood mean nothing when sworn to a king who cannot rule.

AN ANONYMOUS LETTER HAS BEEN DROPPED OFF TODAY ! i wonder what’s inside.
oh – it seems someone is blaming governor de launay for his own death !
i’ve attached the letter below for all to read. do what you will with these words and pray your letters never fall into the wrong hands.
I find the events that have occurred as of recently to be beyond heinous. The people had no right to take the life of another and so violently at that. The people are angry, but they should know that their anger is absolutely useless. If they were to approach with less animosity then perhaps they would be heard. Truth be told, they have nothing to be angry about. They have roofs over their heads, food in their mouths and have the opportunity to be a part of a wonderful country, it is an insult to even hear of their supposed unrest and anger. If they want to be angry… let them, but always stay on your guard lest they make an attempt on anyone else’s lives. What happened to the governor is a pity, but if he knew to protect himself at all times, then perhaps he’d still be with us.

oh – it seems a foreigner feels strongly towards the treatment of the third estate ! is there a spy within the second estate or is this simply a concerned individual ?
i’ve attached the translated letter below for all to read. do what you will with these words and pray your letters never fall into the wrong hands.
I’ve barely found my footing here and it’s being threatened by Parisians. I don’t know how far or quickly this news shall travel, but by the time you get this, who knows what has happened already. Perhaps this won’t be the only letter you receive regarding this issue, maybe not even from me. There’s no reason to go into details - I hardly have any, seeing how I’m not there. Everything I receive is second-hand, at best. It could be exaggerated or something was forgotten.
But you dare ask my opinion on this issue? We are divided for no other reason besides pettiness. Must we be so uptight about outward appearances when the people we are supposed to be looking after wants us dead? They may not be under my rule, but I still have a hand in their treatment. It’s sickening. No one would want to listen to an outsider anyway.
Each day, I think I understand this place but I don’t. Each day, I miss you all. Each day, I wish I was back home. France is my home now, but it has never been in my heart.
