I’ve had this classic in my collection since the mid 70’s. My first version was a blue labeled UA I purchased at 3rd Street Jazz in Philly. My next version was purchased in Okinawa, Japan in 1981 which I still have in my collection today. My next version was purchased in the late 80’s and it was on CD. I replaced that with a RVG remaster I got at the now defunct Borders Book Store in 2005. This version in my hand is the latest from #musicmattersjazz and their SRX Series that are selling like hot cakes. Some recent Jazz and Instrumental finds, trades and purchases. I had never seen or heard the Karl Berger which is an aggressive Free Jazz session with some very cool soloing. The Charles Earland is an upgrade from a green label pressing. Been wanting the Weldon forever and received it as a gift from my brother. @CollectorScum comes through with a Hank Mobley upgrade and Sonny Rollins “Worktime,” which turns out to be one of my favorite Jazz sessions ever. The Rollins is in amazing shape and sounds incredible. The recent Brewerytown Beats issue of the unreleased Sounds of Liberation is so good it amazes me to think it went unheard until recently. After discovering Bobby Timmons, from Jazz Messengers LPs I bought when I was a teenager, I obsessively bought every LP I could find. This is easily my favorite and it is so great to finally have an OG Mono copy. It took way too long to find the Upchurch and “Voodoo Chile” is just as good as I remember it. Grover Washington Inner City Blues, is one of my favorite Soul Jazz records, and is a white label promo with the Kudu one-sheet. Lawrence of Newark is an OG upgrade from a reissue I got in the 90’s. Getting this on vinyl the other day because it had been on my bucket list ever since I started back purchasing albums again was something special. Especially when I had just been listening to “Dat Dere” on my drive over to the record store about 20 minutes before I arrived. The Bobby Timmons Trio “In Person” was recorded on October 1, 1961, at the Village Vanguard in New York City for the Riverside Record Label featuring #BobbyTimmons on piano, #RonCarter and Albert “Tootie” Heath on drums.
