Miami’s Tyler Herro is the the first white American-born player to win an award in a decade
Miami’s Tyler Herro is the the first white American-born player to win an award in a decade
Tyler Herro (r.), the NBA’s Sixth Man of the YearPhoto: Getty Images Tyler Herro is a cold white boy. The Wisconsin native and University of Kentucky product won this season’s NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award in runaway fashion, as he became the first member of the Miami Heat to receive the honor after collecting more than 274 total voting points than Cleveland’s Kevin Love (second place) and 360…

My old friend and classmate, Leah Hayes, repeats the myth of improved enrollment under the Steves' Presidencies.
Bless her.
She says:
From my loose understanding of the numbers, the school continued to grow while SR was alive and remained a guiding influence. When Bob the 3rd took over there was some additional growth until people started figuring out what the 3rd and Jr were all about. They have presided over the long slow death of the school. Stephen Jones slow led that decline some. Steve Pettit actually stopped the bleeding and the school began to grow again. Now that the 3rd is pulling the puppet strings, he will finish the decline that he and his father began in the late 70's and early 80's. And things need to be done in secret because they lack integrity and are unwilling to be accountable. They will all meet Jesus one day, and He will burn up their wood, hay, and stubble. I am betting there is more stubble than wood.
Heavens-to-Betsy, Leah! Have you looked at any facts at all?
Honey, do you remember when we had five in a room in the 80s & 90s? That was under 3rd! BJU was booming! You were there.
I've been keeping track. I have all of BJU's official numbers. I have the numbers from the 1940s and the 1980s and the 2010s and the 2020s.
I remember when Pettit called himself "the Recruitment President."
I remember when Sam Horn and Bobby Wood were supposed to "right" enrollment.
I've got it all documented.
But let's look at the 1940s. Here's 1949:
Tumblr media
Here's 1982. That's 3rd's peak. Third, honey. THIRD:
Tumblr media
Third oversaw that boom. That was a boom!
And Pettit?
Tumblr media
Now those are all snapshots for those years. Here are the numbers that BJU reported to the State of SC for the totals of full-time undergraduate students since Bob 3's reign:
Tumblr media
Stephen Jones did anything but "slow the decline," Leah. And Pettit did not "grow the school again." It leveled off. He was promising 3000 by 2020. He didn't make it. See?
You all are creating these myths in real time.
Wake. Up.

I tagged "GOAT", and it applies doubly: Bill Russell, the perfect combination of intelligence, work ethic, team spirit and athleticism, is the greatest basketball player ever to live, while Red Auerbach, the best basketball coach ever, doing the work of eight people or more today (no assistant coaches, no scouts), transformed the fast break into the most potent offensive weapon in basketball, and picked the right players, acting as a scout, for the team-oriented basketball in which both he and Russell believed, which resulted in NBA championships, eight in a row to be exact (1959-66), such as no other coach has ever and probably will ever win.
To those who doubt the quality of the era: Imagine an era with Wilt Chamberlain, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, Bob Pettit, Elgin Baylor, Jerry Lucas, Willis Reed and so on as your competition, all concentrated on eight or nine teams, typically with just ten players each.
Well, one does not have to imagine, because that is what the Boston Celtics faced when they won eight consecutive championships, with Bill Russell winning nine under Auerbach, plus two as player-coach, also with no assistants, for eleven rings, more than his fingers.

A One Mann’s Movies review of “Freelance” (2023). “Freelance”, currently streaming on Prime Video, sets an early bar for the most brainless bit of movie nonsense in 2024. I don’t mind fantasy adventure films… but grounding them even vaguely in common sense is a pre-requisite for me. Bob the Movie Man Rating: Plot Summary: Mason Pettits (John Cena) is unhappy in his life. He is ex-special…

¿Sabonis padre o Sabonis hijo?.
On Tuesday, March 6, 2023 in #BJUChapel, Steve Pettit was explaining to the student body about the conflict between Pelagius and Augustine. And in a Gnostic-ish moment, in explaining that spiritual love is not the same as "natural love," Pettit stated (11:57):
This is not what Taylor Swift sings about, you know? "Love Story."
It's a fairly standard, albeit fundamentalist and sectarian, point.
But the students were tickled. Really tickled.

They went on to tease that maybe Swift would come to Artist Series! After all, Disney is good now at the New and Improved Bob Jones University!
Chief of Staff and Friend of the Archive, Randy Page had to say something:

Jan. 16, 1963 - Bill Russell (center with Bob Cousy and Tom Heinsohn) scored 19 points, hauled in 24 rebounds, and blocked a myriad of shots as the Eastern Division upset the West, 115-108, tonight in the 13th annual NBA All Star game. “Russell just dominated the game,” said the West’s coach, Fred Schaus of the Los Angeles Lakers. Russell also dominated the MVP voting. He won this award for the first time in his six All-Star appearances. The 6-foot-10-inch center, along with two slick ball-handling guards, Oscar Robertson of Cincinnati and Bob Cousy of Boston, stunned the West, which opened the game with what was billed as the greatest offensive lineup in basketball history. The result, before a crowd of 14,838 at the Memorial Sports Arena in Los Angeles, snapped a 2-game Western winning streak. The East took a 9-4 edge in the series. The West opened with Wilt Chamberlain, averaging nearly 48 points a game for San Francisco, at center; Walt Bellamy of Chicago and Bob Pettit of St. Louis at forward; Elgin Baylor and Jerry West, both of Los Angeles, at guards. But the smaller, quicker Easterners harassed the West on defense and outran them on offense. #NBA #1960s #NBANews #OTD #basketball #celtics #lakers
