I know you have lots of experience with other FF games and gameplay, but were there any classes/jobs that pleasantly surprised you? (Referring more to gameplay in general, but it could also include fun things you noticed for Gisele.)
A lot of it goes back to fitting traditional FF job system into the classic MMO trinity of tank/healer/dps tbh. It doesn’t always work
Scholars for example are always Black Mage/White Mage hybrids in FFs where they appear but in xiv they’re straight healers w a pet class
But as far as Gisele, the XIV iteration of Red Mage is literally what I always envisioned her to be as early as my first DAO run but could never manage without extensive modding because BW never knew how to balance Arcane Warriors. In fairness a lot of RPGs don’t know how to balance spellsword classes though
It’s funny that you send this ask now though because Dark Knight turned out to be a huge surprise for me wrt Gisele. Traditionally in FF they’re damn near the entire opposite of how Gisele fights, aesthetically and otherwise. Heavy spiky armor, big ass swords, etc. Very Death Metal. And that’s not really any different in XIV...there’s certain jobs I’m leveling purely for completionist sake, or I want to experience the quests and lore, or see how they play, etc. not necessarily because I envision Gisele taking that on from a story standpoint. And Dark Knight was definitely one of those, until I got deeper into the job quests. From a lore standpoint, especially in the HW and SB arcs, no other tank job fits her so well. It might well fit her as well as Red Mage and Astrologian. The whole concept behind true mastery of a Dark Knight’s power, “seeking the flame in the Abyss”, is about love. Emotion, passion, is what tempers their power and gives them strength—from love springs that desire to protect those you cherish, and you fight harder for it.
And that’s something that goes to the very heart of Gisele’s character. Her whole MO regardless of universe is rooted in the immense love she feels for so many people and the desire to protect them, to see them safe and whole and happy. In the Warden of Light verse she literally died for it. When she can’t, she feels helpless and blames herself.
Tbh I still feel ambivalent about the “Knight” thing, because it has a very specific associations and feel to me—it’s important for instance that she’s known as a Lady of a House Fortemps rather than a Knight, even though canonically that’s the title the WoL gets from Artoirel. “Crimson Fuller”, as Haurchefant’s consort and compliment. But that very specific image of “Knight” in my head stems from FFVIII and the whole Knight/Sorceress dynamic and Gisele has always firmly been a Sorceress. It’s why I rarely call her a Mage and why colloquially she’s known in homeverse as Sorceress of the Grey. (And by certain ppl in XIV, most notably Zenos, bc he’s seen her past through his Resonance)
And I still feel weird about Gisele as a tank, for a lot of reasons to do with racial optics (esp given how painfully white everyone is), but I’ve at least solved the aesthetic problem with the new glam I just came up with, that’s more 90s shoujo magical girl than spiky death metal.

For a long time after she finished speaking, Clairewatched the flames flicker in the fireplace, casting a soft glow on the richwallpaper and furnishings in the Laird’s bedroom. Finally empty of words.
Four-month-old Faith snuffed against her shoulder. Jamiesqueezed her hand. Brian set down his empty tumbler of whisky with a soft clangon the table. Ellen shifted a bit, and a ball of yarn fell from her lap to thefloor, gently unspooling; she didn’t move to fetch it.
“Do Jenny and Ian and Robert know?”
Jamie cleared his throat. “Murtagh does. But no, Da –nobody else knows. No’ yet, anyway. We wanted the two of you to know first.”
“Not that we don’t trust them,” Claire added softly. “Butit’s a lot to take in.”
“Aye, it is.” Ellen sighed. “All of it’s true, then?About Randall, and yer first husband?”
Brian rubbed at his tired eyes. “And about the Risingthat’s to come?”
“Yes. All of it.” Gently Claire rubbed Faith’s tiny back.“I didn’t tell Jamie until after we were married. It’s why Jack Randall isstill alive. And it’s why we…insinuated ourselves with the Prince, when we werein Paris.”
“Ye wanted to try to stop it, lass?” Brian reached acrossthe small gap between his chair and the settee, softly touching Claire’sshoulder.
“We did.” She raised her chin half-proud, half-defiant. “Ithink we’ve been successful for now. But there’s no telling whether what Ilearned as history will indeed come to pass.”
“Let’s hope it doesna, lass.” Ellen smiled at herdaughter-in-law. “Otherwise I canna rest easy knowing that Jack Randall stillwalks the earth.”
“Ellen, mo chridhe,how can ye wish someone dead?” Brian’s dark brows raised in surprise.
“Just that one man in God’s creation, mo dhu. Do ye want to tell me that hedoesna deserve to be torn to pieces, after what he did to Jenny? And to Jamie? Andto Fergus? And for nearly killing you, too?”
Jamie carefully took Faith from Claire’s shoulder,wrapping the blanket – a parting gift from Mother Hildegarde – securely aroundher tiny back. “By keeping him alive, it assures Claire that she and Faith havea safe place to go, should anything happen to me.”
“And did ye ever consider, ye wee idiot, that Lallybrochis that place?” Ellen sighed.
Claire smiled sadly. “But what if one day it isn’t? Ifthe Rising does come to pass – there will be a terrible famine. Entire villageswill be cleared out, transported by force to the New World.”
Brian nodded, considering. “So we must do whatever we canto prepare ourselves.”
Jamie kissed Faith’s forehead. “Aye – starting with demarcatingevery single boundary line wi’ the neighbors. Ensuring it’s all properlyregistered at Broch Mordha. And then stockpiling extra food.”
“But Claire – would ye truly go, if things got to be sobad?” Ellen crossed her arms, defensive. “Ye ken that Lallybroch will always beyour home – as long as Brian and I, and our family, are alive to care for ye.”
“Of course!” Claire rose and stepped across the seatingarea to sit beside Ellen on the other settee, clasping her hands tight. “You –all of you – are my family. My true family. And Lallybroch is absolutely myhome.”
“But Mam…” Jamie’s voice cracked. “Do ye blame me forwanting every option available to see my family safe? Even if it meant she leftus all behind?”
Overcome now with emotion, Ellen squeezed Claire’s hands.“I – no. No, a bhailach, I dinnabegrudge ye.” She swallowed. “I – I canna tell ye how my heart soars, to see yewi’ such a well-matched wife, and wi’ such a beautiful bairn. To see ye for theman ye’ve become.”
“You mean – the man you and Da raised me to be.”
Brian met his son’s gaze, so unspeakably proud.
“But could wee Faith travel through the stones, then?”
“I don’t know, Da. It’s not like I was given aninstruction manual.” At the confused looks on the faces around her, Clairesmiled. “Never mind. I don’t understand how it all works – or if there’s evenany logic to how it works.”
“She said that the stones make a buzzing sound.” Jamieshifted Faith to his front, holding her arms securely while she kicked her tinylegs against his lap. “And that she touched the largest one, the last time.”
“But Jamie couldn’t hear the buzzing.” Claire bent overto fetch Ellen’s fallen ball of yarn, and began winding it back together.
“Do ye mean – ye took Jamie there?”
“He took me there,Ma – right after I told him this. Told him the truth.” She returned the yarnback to Ellen’s lap, eyes cast down. “He tried to send me back.”
“This was right before I brought her home the first time,”Jamie added softly. “After Cranesmuir. We – we had only been wed for a fewweeks.”
Claire turned now to face her husband, eyes bright andcertain. “He told me there was nothing for me on this side of the stones.Nothing except violence and danger.”
Brian felt the electricity in the room; watched his sonswallow back emotion; watched his daughter-in-law’s face transform as shespoke.
“He couldn’t have been more wrong.”

I recently got an auto insurance policy for 2 cars it was a small hispanic insurance place but hey they were cheap so I got 2 cars insured after the deposit and 1st month for the 2nd month they sent me a bill which I paid in there offices no problem. So a few days later I wanted to get my brother a sr 22 and add him to the policy I called their phone number repeatedly for a quote but no answer. I went to their offices in the daytime it looked vacant but then again it was empty when I initially went there but neway it was closed with a very short note on the door inconsiderately written in spanish but there were 2 phone numbers which I tried calling them both repeatedly but no answer. I went there about 2days after that and it still looked vacant,same note on the door, the numbers still were just ringing to a voicemail. (which is now full) I am pretty concerned because for one I have a 6 month policy that I pay for monthly no way am I gonna pay them through my account I don't trust them so how am I suppose to pay my policy if their office seem to be closed without notice? If I don't pay I'm pretty sure they will send me to collections. What about my down payment? Not to mention they have my family and myself's personal information.. What should I do when there's nobody to contact???

Recently a friend of mine wanted to purchase a motorcycle that he found a super great deal on. Because his credit is very average he asked me to purchase the cycle and he would make me payments plus interest. I agreed and took out a loan for the bike. I recently got an auto insurance policy for 2 cars it was a small hispanic insurance place but hey they were cheap so I got 2 cars insured after the deposit and 1st month for the 2nd month they sent me a bill which I paid in there offices no problem. So a few days later I wanted to get my brother a sr 22 and add him to the policy I called their phone number repeatedly for a quote but no answer. I went to their offices in the daytime it looked vacant but then again it was empty when I initially went there but neway it was closed with a very short note on the door inconsiderately written in spanish but there were 2 phone numbers which I tried calling them both repeatedly but no answer. I went there about 2days after that and it still looked vacant,same note on the door, the numbers still were just ringing to a voicemail. (which is now full) I am pretty concerned because for one I have a 6 month policy that I pay for monthly no way am I gonna pay them through my account I don't trust them so how am I suppose to pay my policy if their office seem to be closed without notice? If I don't pay I'm pretty sure they will send me to collections. What about my down payment? Not to mention they have my family and myself's personal information.. What should I do when there's nobody to contact???

License expired 6 months ago and I have kept up with insurance even though my vehicle just sits in a garage. I'm in NYC and in college so there is no reason for me to drive for the past 2 years. My insurance company renews the policy every 6 months and my insurance rate is still that of Upstate NY where it is at least $1,600 cheaper. NYC is $600 more and I was told that I would have to cover my brother who is under 25 (not allowed to drive my car nor want to) just because we share the same address. My insurance company seems to be using my last registered address so I have been too afraid to renew registration and notify my insurance company of updated address. Recently I got around to changing the title to make it legit; the vehicle was what I won in my divorce settlement. Vehicle is also completely paid for and completely mine. Question is, with the title now under my name, do I need to register it right away? Would my rates automatically go up (they will use new NYC address on title)? Do I need to notify my insurance company of the changes if I am not driving the vehicle for the next 5 months? Will they even know?? I ask these questions because I am a full-time student who do not work so I can't really afford the extra costs in insurance. I hope to get a job in May '10 right after I graduate with my Bachelors and move to NJ where I hope to live and work. At that point, I would care less about how much they want to charge me. I am just concerned about the ramifications of not updating address or registering the vehicle for another 5-6 months. Thank you!!""

Auto Insurance Company seem to have disappeared what should I do?
This question may be a bit complicated because I for one am stumped so here it goes... I recently got an auto insurance policy for 2 cars it was a small hispanic insurance place but hey they were cheap so I got 2 cars insured after the deposit and 1st month for the 2nd month they sent me a bill which I paid in there offices no problem. So a few days later I wanted to get my brother a sr 22 and add him to the policy I called their phone number repeatedly for a quote but no answer. I went to their offices in the daytime it looked vacant but then again it was empty when I initially went there but neway it was closed with a very short note on the door inconsiderately written in spanish but there were 2 phone numbers which I tried calling them both repeatedly but no answer. I went there about 2days after that and it still looked vacant,same note on the door, the numbers still were just ringing to a voicemail. (which is now full) I am pretty concerned because for one I have a 6 month policy that I pay for monthly no way am I gonna pay them through my account I don't trust them so how am I suppose to pay my policy if their office seem to be closed without notice? If I don't pay I'm pretty sure they will send me to collections. What about my down payment? Not to mention they have my family and myself's personal information.. What should I do when there's nobody to contact???
