A long day at the office is so much easier when I'm dressed properly and in my fave colour combo of pink and green.

This is me last Saturday admiring my own outfit and taking a few selfies before settling in for a long day's work.

Bathed in the soft, sepia-toned light of what might be a thousand late afternoons compressed into one, she stands, a testament to enigma, her presence bold and unapologetic. Her gaze is that of a hawk’s, piercing and disarming, pinning you in place with an intensity that feels like being seen for the first time in a long time. The simulacrum of golden tresses that crown her head cascade with a sort of calculated carelessness, framing a visage etched with delicate fortitude.

She's wrapped in a garb that sashays to the cadence of modernity and nostalgia, a jacket of velvety earth tones that speaks of autumn whispers and secret rendezvous. The jacket cuffs are upturned as if in playful rebellion to the order of things. Her midriff, unabashedly bare, defies the coolness of the corridor, and there, snaking around her waist is a belt that hugs her like a dark horizon caging the last glimmers of daylight.

Patches of onyx fabric cling to her, forming a miniskirt that dances mercurial around her thighs, while further below, bands of of the same enigmatic darkness play peek-a-boo with the expanse of her legs—a symphony of skin and secret promises. Covering those limbs are boots—oh, the boots! They possess the kind of upward, scrunching resolve that suggests they've walked through stories and are ready to march through twenty more.

And she, this stationary pilgrim in the corridor of soft lights, she seems as though she might at any moment step through the bounds of her own frame, off to commandeer some adventure not yet written, to a place where shadows weave into untold dreams. A passerby in perfect stillness yet electric with motion, a paradox in the flesh, clothed in brown, black, and the undeniable hue of confidence.

Our 78 year old Italian neighbour Josie might not remember my name, and may never get my pronouns right, but the thing is: We Are Besties and I am totally obsessed with her. She blasts disco music 24 hours a day. She chain smokes. She is so obsessed with Vegemite that she cut a holiday visiting family back home short because she was seized by Cravings.
