9 Fandom Peeps to Get to Know Better:

3 Ships You Like: Only 3?! Decisions decisions! Well, Feihua (and difanghua) have to be included, obviously, and I guess Wangxian should be there, too. I can’t decide who to list for the 3rd spot, so here are the main contenders: Horatio Hornblower/Archie Kennedy (and also with William Bush), Hualian, and Weilan.
First Ship Ever: I was weirdly late to shipping, or at least contemporary pop culture shipping? I was pretty invested in Elizabeth Bennett and Mr Darcy and also Elinor Dashwood and Edward Ferrars in middle school, but it didn’t really devour my brain the way ships do now. Honestly, I think it was Horatio Hornblower and Archie Kennedy back in college, although it took some friends explaining to me why they read it as romantic (laughing and smh at past!me), and a rewatch of the entire series wearing my new shipping goggles for me to go “OH!” like they do in fic, lol. I didn’t get into fic until much later (thanks, @bifilthatonthatseson!)
Last Song You Heard: Heather Dale’s “The Hunter” has been playing on loop in my head since I woke up this morning, but I just put on The Amazing Devil’s “Inkpot Gods,” so I guess I’ll list both. :D
Favourite Childhood Book: I passionately loved the Ramona Quimby books when I was little, but I don’t really remember anything about them anymore, and Matilda was probably the other most important kid’s book for me growing up. (It all felt very relatable to young me, and I kept waiting for my powers to come in. Pity it doesn’t work like that!) If YA books read in adulthood count, I’d have to say the Song of the Lioness series; I read it in grad school (thanks for this, too, @bifilthatonthatseson) and it rewired my brain in INCREDIBLY important ways.
Currently Reading: I’m in between books right now, but I most recently finished Freya Marske’s A Power Unbound (volume 3 of the “Last Binding” Trilogy) and it was INCREDIBLE. Next up is Xiran Jay Zhao’s Iron Widow, which I’m very excited about.
Currently watching: I’m in the middle of The Lost Tomb 2; I temporarily petered out because it’s been awhile since Wu Xie and Xiaoge were in the same scene and I am very much watching it for them (and Xiaohua, who also hasn’t been on screen in awhile), but I’m going to go back to it soon. Other than that, I’m rewatching “I am Nobody” with @sufficientlylargen, “The Untamed” with @sufficientlylargen, @loryer496 and another non-Tumblr friend, “Destined” with @fionatlux and a different non-Tumblr friend, and watching “Luoyang” for the first time with the latter non-Tumblr friend. :D
Currently consuming: Nothing atm, but I’m about to make some of the lavender tea that @slangerogkatter recommended! It’s very good!
Currently craving: Bubble tea and a croissant. (But tragically, I’m not near any gluten-free bakeries, so no croissant for me! I could probably do something about the bubble tea, though!)

I finally had an academic article I’ve been working on for two years get accepted to one of the top journals in my field - right before my review in the fall. Words cannot express my joy and relief, especially since this article is something of a test run for interest in my book!
AHHHHHHHHH that’s so cool! I cannot imagine how tough it must have been to get that article accepted, and to have one of the best journals around take it is beyond extraordinary. I’ll admit that I’m not 100% sure what a review in this context is, but I’m guessing it’s something academic that is good? In which case, YAY YOU, I know you’re going to absolutely nail it.
And HOLY SHIT A BOOK, that would be SO AWESOME, I hope when the time comes you can tell me the name of it so I can buy one and tell everybody how fucking cool you are!

It's definitely a Florida thing.
But I'm guessing I was taught more about tornadoes and blizzards than you were, so it evens out?

Didn't learn about wetlands, but did get taught local bush survival skills (because a high number of people die in the NZ wilderness despite a lack of predators. Hypothermia is a bitch.)
We learned a bit about tornadoes but mostly bundled under hurricane weather conditions and not as standalone dangers. We don’t know shit about blizzards though. But the stuff about wetlands was more part of our geography and science courses rather than emergency preparedness.

This sounds like when I learned that not every elementary school had the snake guy come each year to show everyone the difference between coral and king snakes. Florida elementary schools know what's important here.
Snake guy days were the BEST! Sometimes if we were lucky they’d bring a two foot adolescent alligator and if we behaved through the whole presentation they’d let us pet it. Good to know this wasn’t just my school. Sometimes it’s hard to tell what weirdness in my life is because of Florida and what is from my graduating-class-of-43-students-kindergarten-through-12th-grade podunk school.

I KNOW I’ve read this. Hmm. Two possibilities: Amethystina’s Runaways has a scene where Jake helps but doesn’t show up. And this one has a final scene that is almost what you describe. https://archiveofourown.org/works/2807810
Rereading Runaways was actually what reminded me, but it was indeed Strangers! Which is really embarrassing that I didn’t remember bc it was a gift fic for me OTL Thank you so much!!

yeah as like fellow autopsy staff mitaka is friendly so he has run into a lot of TMI regarding their weird cases and stuff, but unamo just ignores it she doesnt want to know and she is not touching that thing with the scales, thank you

The Losers fic search
So I was thinking of a Losers fic I read way back when, but I literally only remember one scene and I’ve not been able to track it down. This is a longshot, but anyone know what fic this is?
In this fic, Jensen is not part of the Losers, but Cougar knows him anyway. Maybe the others do too, I’m not sure, but they’ve at least not met him before the scene I remember. Anyway, after the Losers go underground, they’re holed up in some building. There’s a knock on the door and everyone freaks out a little bc no one should know where they are, but Cougar opens the door and there’s Jensen. He ends up helping them and I think he and Cougar share a cot.
And... that’s all I’ve got lol

Yesterday was my last class for one of my sections, Monday is the last class for my other, then I have to observe both of my student teachers once more and meet with them three times more, BUT THEN I’M DONE, TOO. I AM SO EXCITED. XD
Also, go you! Grading will not defeat you!
IT REALLY WON’T. This is the easy one to grade because I don’t really leave comments on it. I just read it and go “Did you do what I asked? Yes? OK, here’s your rubric.” So, it’s usually a pretty quick and easy grade on this one. ^_^

THEY CAN’T CANCEL CLASS, MY SYLLABUS CAN’T TAKE ANOTHER RESCHEDULING. Whyy is it always Monday?
I WAS LUCKY I left myself two weeks of buffer at the end of the semester, so I can just continue to shift things forward a few more times. I really want it mainly for the class I'm auditing, and not for teaching... I'd be happy to come in and teach in the morning if I didn't have to go to the other class....

I have made it through a very difficult semester with PPD, during which I have 1) kept my baby safe, healthy, and happy, and 2) interviewed for and landed my dream job. I'm going to make it to graduation and get my doctorate - I'm so close.
I am SO PROUD OF YOU. It sounds like the semester from hell, and you've gotten through it with flying colors. You've been a wonderful mother to your baby (ANOTHER TINY HUMAN, YOU GUYS ARE SO PRODUCTIVE) and that baby is beyond lucky to have you as a mom! I know postpartum depression can hurt horribly, which is why I'm so happy to hear that you made it through.
Not only that, but you got your dream job! CONGRATULATIONS YOU'RE AMAZING. You are just a hair's breath away from getting that doctorate and kicking all kinds of ass. You're going to do some incredible shit; that baby is going to grow up thinking their mom is Wonder Woman.
