#Repost @worldanimalnews_ —— worldanimalnews_ Animal activists rejoice as the Strengthening Welfare in Marine Settings (SWIMS) Act was introduced last week. The legislation would phase out the captive display of #orcas, #belugawhales, #pilotwhales, and #falsekillerwhales. Specifically, it would prohibit the breeding, capturing in the wild, and the importing and exporting of these species for the purposes of public display. 🙏🐋 “The science on these larger species strongly indicates that display facilities cannot provide enough space for them,” said Dr. Naomi Rose, @AWIonline’s marine mammal scientist. “These whales are simply too large and too wide-ranging for the concrete enclosures in which they are confined.” With more people waking up to the cruelty behind captivity, it is time to preserve these beautiful marine animals by no longer enslaving them, and instead, protecting them in their natural habitats. 🙏 #EmptyTheTanks #KeepThemWild 🌊🐋 READ MORE: 🌍👉WorldAnimalNews.com (LINK IN OUR BIO)👆@worldanimalnews_ @peace_4animals #WorldAnimalNews (at Animal News) https://www.instagram.com/p/ChA5IKKqp3Y/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

beautiful video if a mama beluga whale swimming with her calf.
I'm sorry but tumblr isn't accepting links when I try to post them.

The beluga calf enters the world embraced, guided, and nurtured by their mothers. Dedicated teachers and protectors, mothers take great care when raising their baby belugas before sending them off into the deep blue sea.

7 December, 2022 As the tide turned, three white belugas showed up below Willow St. They were followed by two grey belugas. They went upstream who knows where. Once they had all passed, another white gallumphed by. It is not unheard of for the whales to show up in the river at any time, though it is unusual for December, especially in numbers. I don't know why they've shown up. It could be that there are orcas in their normal winter hunting grounds. It could be that their winter food source disappeared (over a billion crabs went missing near here). Or it could just be nobody has noticed them before. The days are short, with less than two tidal cycles per day, and for them to coincide is rare. There is also ice in the river, and many days for or snow. But I don't know. #cibw20221207 #cibw #delphinapterusleucas #beluga #belugawhale #kenai #kenairiver #kenairiverwhales #alaska #alaskawildlife #alaskaphotography #alaskawildlifephotography (at Kenai River) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cl65KZXSrdd/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Stray narwhal adopted by beluga whale pod may soon have "narluga" babies
Apr 30, 2024 #belugawhale #narwhal #whalesintheocean Baby narlugas might be coming! A stray narwhal has been adopted by a pod of male beluga whales, and he’s become “one of the boys.” 🐳 They’ve now reached maturity and will be looking for a female pod of beluga whales to mate with, which means we may see a baby narluga in St. Lawrence River. 🐋 Narlugas are real, with the existence of one officially confirmed in 2019 after Inuit hunters discovered one. 🌊 📸 Group for Research and Education on Marine Mammals (GREMM)
