#because you can very directly compare it to the iconic hunger cover

k saw these comparisons on Twitter so I'm cribbing a lil here to be clear but I'm not saying that the Bride special edition cover... and to be clear, Bride IS a different book, it is not as dark or as carnal as Hunger (though it does have darkness and it is pretty carnal at points, it's just that it can't really beat Lachlain chasing Emma down in the woods and making her ride his face in the mud before he mounts her from behind in literal beast mode) but like...
These are both books about alpha werewolves forcibly paired with seemingly weak and fragile vampire heroines they consider the enemy, with mating bond scent stuff, and while I personally find the Kresley werewolves to be much more WEREWOLFY, the Bride werewolves are arguable more wolfy, because they do actually transform into wolves and have knotting
so I just need to know how we went from one flavor to the other.
people of the jury, would you ever guess that the second book pictured has the dialogue "you smell like you just came; I need to eat you out"? on the other hand, does the dialogue "do not run from one such as me; you will not get away and we like it" fit the first cover? because I think it does
(and also, I will repeat, we all have our opinions, but the level of detail that went into these two covers just can't be compared; Leni literally did the same face on the guy on the Next of Kin cover, whereas you can literally see homeboy's fingers digging into her flesh in Hunger, and the mood is conveyed PERFECTLY)

Lovesick Angel.
Tumblr media
Yandere/Angel!Taeil x Male!Reader x Joshua
Taeil breathed in slowly, taking deep breaths as his eyes stayed on Mark.
“Taeil. You have sinned one to many times.” Mark started. “Before I let you go… I just want to know why? You were one of our most powerful angels yet you let human emotions control you… Why is that?”
Taeil smiled dreamily.
“It’s because I’m in love.”
“Love? Your love should be with God.”
“My love is far more worthy than God herself.”
Mark’s jaw clenched, anger contorting his features.
“You have lost your mind...” and Taeil nodded in agreement.
“So I have...”
“Whoever this love is better be worth it. Taeil, I deemed you banish from Heaven.” Mark spat and Taeil began laughing. At first it was just a giggle but it turned manic and as Taeil leaned backwards to fall, Mark caught a glimpse of the madness that was in Taeil’s eyes and shuddered.
Whoever caught the now fallen angel’s attention was a goner he thought and he prayed that God would protect them.
~~
You giggled with your boyfriend Joshua as you 2 baked a batch of chocolate chip cookies.
The doorbell to your apartment rang and Joshua went to go answer it.
He came back, a quizzical look on his face and a bouquet of sunflowers in his hands along with a yellow envelope.
“It’s for you Y/n.” he said handing the flowers to you.
You got up from the chair you were sitting on and took the flowers and the envelope.
Curious, you set the flowers down on the table and opened the yellow envelope, taking out a letter.
“What does it say?” Joshua asked standing next to you, trying to peak at the letter.
Dear, Y/n.” you began. “You may not know me but I’ve known you for a very for a very long time and slowly I’ve fallen for you, figuratively and literally. Just recently I was able to start a brand new chapter in my life and I plan on having you in it. We will meet soon, love your guardian angel.”
You stared at the note, frowning.
“Well, that’s not creepy at all.” Joshua remarked and you nodded in agreement.
“Yeah, this is pretty weird.” you sat the letter down on the table.
“The flowers are pretty though.”
“They’re your favorite too. Hmm… Seems like you have a secrete admirer.” he said, picking up the letter to read it for himself.
“I’m gonna get a vase.” you said, walking off to the closet.
Once you got to the closet, you opened the door and grabbed a vase that was decorated with painted bees. You closed the door, turn around only to scream, nearly dropping the vase.
You saw a shadow standing not far from you only for it to vanish as soon as it appeared.
Joshua came running out the kitchen.
“Whats wrong?! Are you okay?!” he asked, coming up to you, worry in his eyes.
You were visibly shaken.
“I just saw this huge black shadow standing right there.” you pointed in front of you.
Joshua looked behind himself then back at you.
“Have you’ve been taking your medication?”
“I have.” you sighed. “Maybe I need to start a new medicine...” you said sadly, smiling when you felt your boyfriend hug you tightly.
“It’s okay babe. I’m here. No shadows demons are gonna kidnap you.” he laughed causing you to giggle.
Joshua always knew how to make you smile.
~~
You awoke in a cold sweat, your breathing harsh and your heartbeat fast.
Shaking your head, you try to get the mental image of your dead boyfriend out of your mind but you couldn’t
Lately, you’ve been having the same exact nightmare, of your boyfriend being murdered by a black winged man. You didn’t tell Joshua about the dream because well, you didn’t want him worrying about you too much. But the dream was getting to you and you couldn’t shake off the feeling that something dreadful was going to happen soon.
Sitting up, you gulped loudly, noticing that your throat was dry and decided to go to the kitchen to get a drink.
As you walked to the kitchen, you noted how cool the apartment was.
Turning the faucet on to cold, you grabbed a cup and watched as the water poured into it. You turned off the faucet and drunk the whole cup in one go. Sighing, you put the cup down, your hands gripping the sink.
That’s when you heard a melodic voice coming from somewhere.
Your heart shook as you listened to the voice humming.
Turning around, you cursed to yourself as you realized you didn’t turn on any lights and was in the dark.
Gulping, you walked out of your kitchen, only for the voice to grow louder.
Looking to your right, you saw that your balcony door was open which was strange because you made sure you closed it before you went to bed last night.
The light of the moon shined upon your living room, giving you some light.
Walking to the balcony, you notice that the humming was coming from there.
Alarms went off in your head. One part of your mind was yelling at you to run into your room, lock the door and call the cops but the other told you to check where the humming was coming from and as much as you wanted to run away to your room, you legs seemed to be moving on it’s own as you stepped closer to the balcony.
Your foot touch the cool concert and your head poke out to the side.
You were met with the back of a person in an all white outfit. They didn’t wear any shoes and their head was up, looking at the stars of the night sky, their hands resting on the balcony ledge.
You noticed that the humming had stopped once you got on the balcony and you nervously asked, “Who are you? What are you doing here on my balcony?”
You heard a chuckle and a deep sigh.
“You know… I use to live up there. I was one of God’s most powerful angels. I loved her and she loved me.” the stranger said causing you to frown in confusion. “But then one day, while on patrol, one of her creatures caught my eye. A human… He was crying because he had fallen off his bike he’d had scraped his knee. Poor thing wouldn’t get up. His own father had to carry him back to his grandmother’s house to be patched up.”
Your eyes widen.
That happened to you. That exact scenario happened to you when you was about 7 years old. How did they know that?
The stranger continue.
“I would watch the human as he grew up. And as I watched him grow, I felt things, things I never felt before.” his fist balled up. “Love. Greed. Envy. And lust to be exact. Those were the things I felt for him but he had no clue because well, God didn’t allow non guardians to be near humans.”
“What are you talking about?” you asked, wondering if this was just the drunken ramblings of someone who broke into your house.
“But I wanted to be near him so bad.” the stranger ignored your question. “I needed to be near him. And that need, that hunger grew and grew. My passion for you grew to where that now I am too far gone. I can’t be saved. And neither can you my love.”
You grew scared as the stranger turned around.
The man looked at you with a dreamy look on his face.
“I grew so tired of Heaven and I know you’ve grown tired of Earth. Run away with me.” he said walking towards you, your mind going blank.
The man grabbed your hands, his eyes scanning your features.
“Run away with me and you’ll never be alone again. I’ll worship you like the God you are, just say yes to me.” it felt as though he was speaking directly in your mind as he spoke out loud. His voice had an echo affect.
“W-who are you?” you asked nervously.
The man chuckled, his eyes turning black.
“I’m Taeil. Your guardian angel.”
You fainted.
~~
You woke up in bed, your head pounding.
Before you could even wonder how you got it bed, you remembered the event of last night and wondered if it was all a dream.
It had to be.
There was no way that what had happened was real but yet you couldn’t shake the thought away of it being real.
You sighed checking your phone.
20 missed calls from Vernon
“What? Why did Vernon call me twenty times?” you thought out loud, pressing the calling icon to call the man.
You were answered with a hysterical Vernon who was crying so much that he couldn’t properly string words together.
“Vernon calm down. Take deep breaths.” and he listened, breathing slowly.
Once he was a bit calm you asked him to tell you what was going on.
“It’s Joshua. He’s dead! They found him in the baseball field near the lake with claw marks on his body and his heart missing! I’m so sorry Y/n.” and he broke down again.
You dropped your phone and ripped out a heartbreaking cry of anguish.
No.
No this couldn’t be real, this couldn’t be happening.
He was just here with you yesterday and now he’s gone.
Just like that within a blink of an eye, he’s gone…
You picked up your phone.
“I’m gonna come over.” Vernon said and you shook your head.
“No. I… I need to be alone for a few days.”
Vernon didn’t press you, understanding that you wanted to grieve and soon you 2 said your goodbyes and hung up.
As you cried, you heard a humming and without a thought, you legs moved on it’s own to where it was coming from, this time in your living room.
You sniffled as your eyes landed on the man from last night, Taeil, sitting on your couch, his white clothes and mouth covered in blood.
He smiled upon seeing you.
“Honestly… who would’ve thought becoming a fallen meant I’d get taste for human. Strange really.” his nails were razor sharped and all of his teeth seemed sharp as well. Compared to last night, he seemed unhuman.
“You killed him.” you whispered and he smirked.
“Of course I did. How can I let the man I love attention be on some other man? I can’t have that.”
He got up from the couch, walking to you and as much as you willed your body to move, it just wouldn’t budge. It was like you were glued in place.
You looked at him before moving your attention down to the floor, not wanting to look at him, tears drops falling from your eyes, hitting the ground.
“That look in your eyes. I hate it.” he said, his bloody hand caressing your cheek, his face so close to yours that his nose was skimming your forhead. “Do not fear my love. For I am a messenger of God.” his voice echoed in your mind.
Suddenly you found yourself enclosed tapped between him and his black wings.
You wanted this to be dream.
You wanted to wake up and have this be all over but as you finally, slowly moved your head up to look at the monster, your heart sunk as you met his charcoal colored eyes, a lovesick grin on his lips.
“Only I can worship you.”

Summer 2018 is the Summer of PDA

Summer 2018 is the Summer of PDA
The wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle was the blockbuster romcom of the season. It had a viewership —29 million—that would make John Hughes blush. It had a fairy-tale princess—literally—romance, and a classic girl-meets-guy-with-British-accent story arc. Don’t forget the aw-shucks Hollywood close-up: Prince Harry, standing googly-eyed at the altar as his freckled bride-to-be approached. He gnawed a little at his lip and shared his most intimate thoughts with 29 million of his closest friends and family. “You look amazing,” he whispered to Markle in a lip-read gif that has been reposted ad nauseam, “I’m so lucky.”

If you’re starting to feel that Instagram is chock-full of Nicholas Sparks’s rough drafts, you’re not alone. According to Elaine Lui, the founder of the incisive celebrity and pop culture site Lainey Gossip, celebrity couplings and uncouplings come in cycles. “2017, 2016 seemed to be a year when breakups were taking over,” she says. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan. These are the years we collectively wondered, is love dead?
2018 is a year that defiantly answers no. In addition to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle (try it with me: Harkle), Hailey Baldwin and Justin “GOOGLE IT” Bieber are making out all over Brooklyn. Ariana Grande and her ten-inched comedian Pete Davidson are live-blogging their physical attraction and their furniture shopping. Nick Jonas’s tamely flirtatious comments on Priyanka Chopra’s Instagram are covered like Trump’s tweets.
As of the royal wedding, none of these three couples was publicly dating. As of this writing, all of them are engaged to be married. Which is not to suggest that newlyweds Meghan and Harry have stopped making news—their every touch is dissected for evidence of “breaking royal protocol.” Celebrity romance is in the air, or at least, it’s all over our feeds. It’s not so much a celebrity summer of love as it is a summer of celebrity PDA.
GETTY
We’ve long been obsessed with celebrity couples, or at least with smashing their names together. But our access to Bennifer, Brangelina and TomKat was relatively limited—a tasteful red carpet here, a stressed-out LAX exit there, a frenetic couch jumping way over there—compared to today’s deluge of content. “Romance has always been a central pillar of gossip,” says Lui. “We just have more ways to consume it.” Leveraging paparazzi, social media, song lyrics and red-carpet appearances, this microgeneration of lovebirds offer 360-degree access to their intimate lives—and even older generations of celeb couples are drawing back the curtain. Alex Rodriguez captured all of J.Lo’s angles on the VMA red carpet; J.Lo thanked A.Rod in her award acceptance speech. Even the famously private Beyoncé and Jay Z put their love on wax and took it on the road this summer.

Then there’s Chrissy Teigen and John Legend kissing on Instagram, Cara Delevingne and Ashley Benson kissing at Heathrow, Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott kissing at Scott’s album release party. Lucky timing? Acceptance that power-coupling is the fastest way to build a brand? A desire to mate before Trump hits his head on the Do Not Press the Big Red Button button? Or a philanthropic impulse to combat the smell of hot trash with the sweet aroma of romance?

According to paparazzo Miles Diggs, who mans the Instagram account, PositivePaps, the demand for photographs in which celebrities resemble the heart-shaped eyes emoji is market-tested. “The business has changed a lot,” he tells me. “Formerly, people solo with great fashion used to be the top-selling photo.” But Diggs says the photos magazines want now all involve good news. “A new couple is at the top of breaking stories that sell for us so we definitely target new couples or newly engaged couples, newly married couples, newly pregnant couples, stuff like that,” he says.
But is this the only reason that, on some days, a frumpy-looking Pratt and Schwarzenegger leaving the movies constitutes a major news story?
If you ask Jesse Fox, an associate professor at the Ohio State University who studies the role of social media in romantic relationships, she’ll tell you the summer of PDA is the product of savvy celebs who want to take on Hollywood and believe that mission can more easily be accomplished together. “Most [celebrities] have PR people overseeing what it is they are putting out there on social media,” explains Fox. “You have to remember that celebrity disclosures are never authentic.” (I knew Davidson wasn’t packing.)
@haileybaldwin
Fox believes that, for these couples, social media is mostly for show. And by these couples, she means all of them. Baldwin, “essentially a nobody,” says Fox, is merely after the Beliebers. Grande wants to stay in the news. Beyoncé and Jay Z are crazy in love…with ticket sales. At one point, Fox prematurely put a fork in Jailey and Petiana. “If these relationships follow through, divorce is a very likely outcome,” she says.
Say love really is a four-letter word manufactured by Scooter Braun. What explains our willingness to buy in? “Celebrity gossip and gossip in general says more about us than it says about the subject,” says Lui. Celebrities may be acting like lovestruck middle schoolers. But Hollywood is also recognizing the lovestruck middle schooler in us all. Appearing on The Tonight Show last week, J.Lo. posited that the public hungers for romance, even if it’s fictional. “I think people need [romcoms]!” she said “We miss them!”
.
Granted, J.Lo was promoting her own upcoming romcom, Second Act. But Liu agrees. Last summer, The Big Sick tested the waters for the genre’s return. Now we’ve got Set It Up, Crazy Rich Asians, and All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. “The romcom is back but being modernized to represent different story lines and different faces,” Lui observes. “It’s inclusive.”
We might see Beyoncé, one of culture’s savviest businesspeople, as writing her own romantic dramedy. She released a joint album with her husband and is proudly flaunting their post-Becky reconciliation on tour. Just because it’s smart business doesn’t mean it’s fake. “Jay and B, I believe are committed to each other and in a real marriage and love each other, definitely,” says Liu. “But I also think that they are performing it and showing it in front of the world.”
In line with Beyoncé and Jay Z’s other work, their performance of love likely has more political intentions than paparazzi bait. At the end of On the Run II shows, a graphic reading “This Is Real Love” is plastered across the stage. Then, Jay Z and Bey share an intimate you may-now-kiss-the-bride smooch in front of a stadium full of people. In doing so, they offer a raw, real look at what complicated black love looks like, enabling two powerful icons to relate back to millions of black individuals.
.
For his part, Diggs believes the demand for photos of celebrities in love is a reaction to everything else going on. “There’s so much shitty press out there nowadays, that when there’s a positive uplifting story it feels good and people want to read about that and they obsess over it to a point,” he says. To put it more pointedly: the antidote to another horrific story about Trump is by living vicariously through other people’s’ love or infatuation.
Bieber’s long-winded Instagram proclamation of love doesn’t back us off the cliff of mutually assured destruction. Davidson wearing a bracelet with Grande’s initials won’t help kids at the border reunite with their parents. And Jay Z and Beyoncé’s rejuvenated love can’t impeach Trump. (But maybe we should at least ask on that last one.) Still, those stories can help people forget for just a second. “The thought process is,” says Dr. Fox, “I just need escapism and that’s just going to help me because the entire country has gone to crap and it’s the only way I can not focus on that.’”
I believe Diggs’s and Fox’s theory to be deeply, unshakably true because it describes me.
Soon after Davidson and Grande became official, I started following the Instagram account PeteandAriana, which documents the couple’s every interaction, out in the world or on social. At first, I thought it was a nice way to keep up with a cute couple. Now, I think it’s a safe space in an internet hellscape for me and their almost 50,000 followers.
Take this recent video of Davidson shimmying. Davidson’s weird private dance moves and helium voice countdown the days until Grande’s album release. “This put the biggest smile on my face I’ve missed them so much please,” reads the caption. It’s excellent promo and utter giddy nonsense. The joy of PeteandAriana only makes sense in the context of what Lui, Diggs, and J Lo say, about fighting hate with love. Petiana is so resplendent with new love and bright shimmery happiness that bystanders can get a contact oxytocin high just by following along.

.
Another PeteandAriana post addresses this experience directly: “I hope some of y’all can learn to be more positive !! It’s a lot less draining, trust me.” It doesn’t take much guesswork to figure out what this account would recommend as the solution to negativity: L-O-V-E.
Maybe, like in any good rom com, we’re just a person, standing in front of a phone, begging it to show us people in love. Maybe we just need this right now.
