ok, i cant resist the urge to make a post about it after all, especially since it's related to a post i made prior

one of my favorite moments in trimax is By Far this part in chapter 35

[ID: Two pages from Trigun. The first starts with Wolfwood thinking, "Now that I think 'bout it, it may be one of the major differences between our species." That deep rooted dear I felt on the ship…" He thinks of Vash crying blood and, swearing, wonders, "Is he the one who can save humankind? That monster?" Wolfwood is briefly shown in resolution before someone calls, "Hey, Wolfwood!" and he looks up with surprise.

Vash sits with a smile at the edge of a rooftop, backed by the Fifth Moon and its prominent crater. Vash asks with a smile, "Just coming back now? You're a bit of a night owl, huh?" Wolfwood looks taken aback and wary. End ID]

Right Here. Vash is just sitting there, smiling like normal, but he's got the backdrop of the damage he caused on the moon set Perfectly behind him. it's a glaring reminder to Wolfwood of who exactly he's dealing with here, and that TERRIFIES him.

& the fact that Wolfwood still remembers that moment of crying blood as a moment of true fear. because for all the cheer Vash shows in the average moment, Wolfwood just recently saw him nearly lose control Again (at the Dragon's Nest). the second time he witnessed it, & the third time he would know about.

Vash is a walking atomic bomb with multiple charges. even with how cheerful & kind he is, he's shown Multiple Times that he does not have full control. he is decidedly something different, something Hazardous to humans, and Wolfwood knows this very very painfully.

for all that Wolfwood loves Vash, he is also terrified of him. and at this point in the story, that terror is potent enough to nearly eclipse his affection for Vash.

leading to some of the next most iconic pages:

[ID: The next page starts with Wolfwood standing behind the sitting Vash, his expression hard and the moon bright behind him. Vash seems sad and has one eye open. A close-up focuses on Wolfwood looking down.

Wolfwood thinks, "So easy to pull the trigger. So easy to remove half the problem." Another close-up with bright lighting obscures his face but for one eye. Then Vash turns around curiously and asks, "What's up?" Wolfwood sits behind him and says "Nothin'. Come on. Let's go." Vash seems surprised as Wolfwood scolds, "Don't get yerself tangled up in every little skirmish ya see. It'll be pointless if ya get yerself killed before ya meet him." End ID]

the manga frames it like Vash doesn't know Wolfwood was pointing the gun at him, but I think he did know. he's freakishly perceptive over and over again throughout the story. he HAS to be in order to survive like he has. he'd hear the movement of the gun & sense Wolfwood behind him...

he'd know. i really think he knew.

but he doesn't do anything about it. there is zero fear in his face. he turns to look at Wolfwood curiously, a bit confused, but not afraid. he never once thought that Wolfwood would shoot him. there's full faith and trust there in that moment.

Wolfwood pretends that nothing happened, & Vash lets him. they both move on, not talking about it, because they never talk about Anything of substance like this (not until much, Much later).

overall, it's just such a great example of their relationship's development. Wolfwood's fear & Vash's trust that he won't act on it... it's just. Man.

(EDIT: people have made some good points about how Vash's expression when Wolfwood points the gun at him shows that he probably did know and YEAH that's a good point! & probably why I was so certain he knew lol, I just hadn't realized it myself)

Trimax Vol 5 Ch 4-6

Ok, it's incredibly late and I have a flight to catch tomorrow but I desperately need to get these thoughts out before I leave. AKA I continue being emotionally devastated by Trigun.

Ch 4

I didn’t catch on my first read through that Meryl is also witnessing Vash’s memories! But she seems to be getting more than just July. She’s also seeing little Vash. I wonder how much of his past she ends up seeing. Does it include his time on the ship before the Big Fall? How much does she learn about him here?

Also lil baby Vash!!

Did Hoppred rig the whole building to blow so he could take Vash down with him as a last resort?

Wolfwood needs to stop pointing his gun at Milly right now. He’s trying so hard to protect her and keep her alive, but I hate that his first thought is to go for physical threats. The thing is, I think Milly knows he would never actually pull the trigger on her. She’s still so brave for how she faces up to him though and never breaks eye contact with him, even with a gun in her face.

Me, trying to make myself feel better by telling myself that at least Vash used his angel powers to save his friends rather than accidentally kill them this time.

I hate how Midvalley talks about Vash, calling him “it” and “a thing.” He’s spent so much time around Knives that he can’t comprehend Independent Plants as anything other than destructive monsters. There’s a certain significance to the fact that he’s saying this to Wolfwood, who up until recently might have held a similar view. But he doesn’t agree with Midvalley anymore and it serves as an interesting mirror moment for Wolfwood’s character.

A wild Legato appears! On the world’s weirdest motorcycle with his assistant. Once again I ask, who are they??

Actually, why is he even here? Is he mad that he’s been kept away from the action?

I gotta give Nightow a lot of credit here. It fucking hurts that Legato manipulates Hoppred into shooting Midvalley. I have a lot of sympathy for both these characters and they shared an interesting camaraderie. Midvalley might be the closest thing Hoppred’s had to a friend in a long time and Legato just made him kill him! They might be villains and they may be after our main character but I don’t hate them or want them to die or suffer like this.

Ch 5

Eldritch Vash! Eldritch Vash! I know it’s horrifying for him, but man, do I love me some uncanny, eldritch character transformations. Give me more of that cosmic horror, baby!

Legato crying because he’s horrified that anyone would betray Knives…he’s just sooooo. He truly is a character of all time. The toxic loyalty and devotion is truly something to witness.

Again, I ask, where does Wolfwood keep pulling handguns from??? His tits???

Oh Vash, is losing it. His eyes are completely white and devoid of anything but rage.

This is just like that scene from Pirates of the Caribbean.

Oh!! Is this the panel that inspired creature Vash? Love that it’s from such an intense scene. He’s just so shaped.

Damn, Meryl!! Breaking the Mexican standoff.

What I can’t tell is if Vash pushed her up, encouraging her to do it because he knew it would be a surprise or if she popped up herself. There’s something in the way this panel is drawn that suggests she’s shocked at being pushed out of feathers.

Oh shit, did Legato just get half his face blasted off???

Manipulating Midvalley’s dead body is…a lot, Legato. That’s a lot.

Ch 6

I’M STRESSED OUT. Meryl is stuck and Vash is stuck in a meltdown he can’t control. Things ain’t looking good here.

Oh Vash, oh no. He’s in so, so much pain almost constantly from what he’s done. This is what he’s been hiding behind all those sad smiles and goofy jokes. It’s a wonder he manages to keep himself going.

Vash’s imaginary (I think) conversation with Knives as he gains control of himself is gonna make me cry. All that pain and all that guilt, he could easily disappear into it and never find his way out. But he pulls himself back because he’s not done yet, he still has things to do and people he cares about and things he believes in above all else.

And he’s so unsure of his mission! He’s been proven wrong so many times and he’s fucked up beyond measure. But he knows people are kind, and just for that little kindness that was shown to him, he wants to give people a second chance, he wants to give humanity a chance to be saved. Oh God, it’s too late at night for me to be reading this.

Soooo, Legato was not supposed to be there and Elendira has just killed his handy-dandy transport assistant. I always find it interesting when the heroes of a story don’t technically win. In this case, one of their own opponents gets rid of a threat for them, mostly because Knives doesn’t want Vash dead just yet. Or ever, probably. He just wants that man to suffer.

I will give Elendira, she is very cool and I might be a little in love with her.

Vash has so much compassion, that even as Hoppred wishes uncountable suffering on him, he still holds his hand, so he doesn’t die alone. He caused Hoppred’s pain. He understands it. He can’t fix it, but he does what he can.

Ah, Milly is ok!!! I was wondering where she went.

Again, so much compassion. He buries the people who were trying to kill them and gives them grave markers, a final resting place. Wolfwood would’ve just left them where they fell. But he is contemplating his existence, as usual when he’s confronted by Vash’s immensely caring heart. We love to see it.

Oasis- Relationship notes (Em specific)

Trigun Stampede Gang x OC (Emaline Rowe)

OC: Emaline C. Rowe (AKA Em/"Menace")

She's a bounty hunter after the $$60 million prize on Vash's head, but inevitably finds herself befriending him and the rest of his goofy clique

• Vash:

The only reason Em meets the group at all is because she's a bounty hunter who decides to try and cash in on his bounty. So, her first meeting with Vash is a little... rough to put it lightly. She happened to spot him and the rest of the crew while laying in wait for a different target, spotting them walking through the desert, and once clocking him as the $$60 million man decided to make a move. She captures him and they travel to the next town over for her to try and collect the reward, but while waiting for the JuLai military police to get there things get crazy and she decides he isn't worth the effort. But they end up striking up an odd friendship of sorts in the interim, much to everybody else's surprise once they finally catch up to the two of them.

As far as first impressions go, Em definitely didn't fully believe that he was The Humanoid Typhoon at first. Thought he was much too much of a goofy idiot for that to be the case, and she was a little disappointed that he didn't put up more of a fight. However, by being such a goofy idiot he manages to worm his way into her good graces and actually befriend her, so she likes him well enough. She does enjoy flustering him though, like she does with most people.

In turn, Vash definitely saw her as a very intimidating and very dangerous individual, but as he spent more time with her and got to know her, he found her to be a rather interesting gal, and a lot kinder than she seems. He didn't think he'd be able to win her over in any way, but he's pleasantly surprised to be able to refer to her as a friend of his.

Nicknames for her: n/a, just Em/Emaline

• Nicholas D. Wolfwood:

Seeing as his first interaction with her was her threatening his friends and stealing his mark out from under him, he definitely didn't like her at first. The only reason he didn't shoot first and ask questions later was because she had used one of the others as a hostage and Vash had gone with her willingly, to prevent more violence. So he was really bewildered to find the two of them chatting amicably in the next town over like nothing had happened, and incredibly annoyed that she decided to stick around for a bit. But they eventually find common ground, and he ends up liking her a way more than he thought possible.

Em doesn't think too much on him, she thinks he's a little strange and finds him intriguing to say the least, but her sights were set on bagging a bounty so she didn't spare him much thought at first. But once the tension dies down, she ends up finding Wolfwood to be a very interesting and amusing individual. She likes to mess with him and try to get under his skin (she loves messing with "tough guys" like him). Sometime during the timeskip/post JuLai they start casually hooking up, whenever they happen to cross paths. And while neither would admit to it, they end up being really close friends.

Nicknames for Wolfwood: Mister Preacher-man, black, holy man Nicknames for her: Menace, Miss Thang, Sniper chick, Bullseye, sharpshooter, animal, troublemaker

• Roberto De Niro:

Like with Wolfwood, didn't think much of him at first. But as she spent more time with the group she couldn't help but find him more amusing. She likes to annoy him (not in the same way or as much as she likes to annoy Wolfwood, but he's up there).

Roberto knows she's bad news, and takes every chance he can to remind anybody who'll listen of that fact, especially in the beginning. But after awhile he just resigns himself to the fact that they've managed to pick up yet another stray on Meryl's big story pursuit. He'd never admit it out right but he does find her antics to be amusing from time to time, but he absolutely hates how she's always stealing cigarettes off of him, and thinks she's more trouble than she's worth. (He also doesn't appreciate her calling him old all the time).

Nicknames for Roberto: Drunkle, old codger, geezer, old dog

Nicknames for her: Menace (the originator), trouble, bounty chick

• Meryl Stryfe:

Honestly, didn't even see her when she first attacked the group, so she was surprised and a little amused to have this bite sized gal walk up and start berating her. She thinks Meryl is an adorable little small fry who's very easy to rile up, and Meryl is generally unenthused and wary of her in the beginning. But they eventually learn to tolerate each other. Even though Meryl doesn't always agree with her or approve of her actions, she does begrudgingly respect her at the end of the day though, and is a little impressed at how skilled she is.

Nicknames for Meryl: blue, little miss, firecracker, pint-size

Nicknames for her: n/a, just Em, or "bounty hunter lady"

• Fen Holloway:

Em's first interaction with Fen is using her as a hostage to try and get the others to put down their weapons and get Vash to surrender without too much hassle. To be fair, she didn't mean to single her out, she just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and within grabbing distance. So the two start off on a shaky foot, and Fen is rather wary and intimidated by her. But as time goes on they actually become really good friends (Fen has that effect on people).

Fen is definitely a bit in awe of her, she thinks Em is the absolutely coolest woman alive. And Em thinks Fen is a rather cute little thing, but definitely needs to learn how to be less of a people pleasing pushover, just a bit. Their relationship develops a bit more post JuLai/during the time skip, as Em happens to run into Fen again when traveling through her town, which rekindles their friendship. During this time, Em teaches Fen a thing or two about self defense and actually gives her some of her old gear. She's happy to see her toughen up a bit, and to be the one to help her do so.

Nicknames for Fen: shutterbug, lens-head, green, bug girl

Nicknames for her: n/a, usually just Em or Emma (Fen is the only one in the group who can call her Emma without fear of getting punched)
