Part 3

Summary: Roman feels his age

Note: squint at the implied smut…but this just angst and fluff

Roman turned off the dryer and was running a comb through his hair, when he spotted it. Going over to the door, he silently closed it.

Leaning in close, he glanced and didn’t see it. His heart began to pick up speed. Moving so he was practically climbing the black marble of the counter he found the one gray strand. Biting his bottom lip, he plucked it.

He stood back and looked at himself. He moved his head from side to side. No other ones stood out.

As annoyance filled him, making him flushed with anger. He grabbed his aftershave and patted some on his cheeks. Then he realized he could have some there too. He looked at the prickles of growth there as well.

“Roman?” Your voice called from the other side of the door.

“Yes!” His voice sounded like he was being strangled. He cleared his throat.

“Are you ok?” He could hear your concern.

“I’m fine,” He eyed the door and the handle.

“I will meet you downstairs.”

“Don’t be long, I’ll miss you!” You giggled lightly.

Your light mood cooled some of his annoyance, but it also distracted him. He tried to think. “Order me my usual!” He called out.

“Ok, I will!”

He could hear the clicking of your heels as you left. He could imagine the swish of your dress, the way your feet were your shoes. You were so young, so lovely and he was going gray. He had already known there would be a time when his age would come into play between the two of you, but it’s serious now. His annoyance came back as he brushed his teeth. He looked his face over, happy with it. At least his age wasn’t showing there.

There were no wrinkles, except when he smiled. Well, he didn’t mind those.

Dropping his towel, he walked into his closet. He grabbed a pair of fresh boxers. He remembered how you and Victor went shopping before things had locked down. This was one of the things you had grabbed, he smiled.

He had only really begun to smile because of you. It didn’t help that your smile and even more your laugh could be quite infectious.

He pulled on his dress shirt. Eyeing his cufflinks, he settled on a pair of his favorites.

He thought back, damn that was already going on a bit for the pair of you. That virus stole a year of fun and excitement from you two. But he had learned so much about you, and faced a lot of his demons.

Slipping on his socks followed by the very finely threaded slacks, his outfit for tonight was almost complete. Having looped and fastened his belt, he was beginning to feel better.

Grabbing just the right suit jacket for this look he paused. He had this one for a while. It was one of the first ones he wore when meeting you.

Reaching for his phone he dialed his groomer.

To Franco: Need an appointment tomorrow. ASAP.

Franco: You are not due for two weeks, Roman.

To Franco: I can’t wait till then.

Franco: How is eleven am?

To Franco: Good. Bring dye and the straight razor?

Franco: I thought you were enjoying your naturally dark coloring.

He had till the fucking gray.

To Franco: Just bring it.

Franco: Ok, Roman. See you then.

Roman slipped back into the bathroom. Should he wear shades tonight? He slipped on a pair. He sighed, then grimaced at his own reflection. He took the shades off and slipped them into his pocket.

He slipped on his face mask as the music from the club began to greet him. He smiled underneath it as he saw that now a few weeks into being open, the stream of people coming to have a good time was steady. Seeing him, people parted and made room for him. He smiled and nodded.

He saw you speaking with someone. Your mask off since you were in a safe place. The smile across your face was as lovely as ever. The person met his eyes, they shared a nod and walked away. He came over to you and slipped off his mask.

“You look lovely.” He smiled. And you did, the dress hung just right and the heels added that little bit of height, which made it easier for him to enjoy whiffs of your perfume.

You returned the smile. “Thank you, Romy.” You gestured to the person, who walked over their own booth where they sat with friends possibly, Roman wondered. “They hired me to make a piece for their boutique.”

He rose an eyebrow, watching them whisper something to someone sitting with them. “That’s a bit garish. You’re relaxing in my club and they talked business?”

“I suppose, but things have changed greatly now that we’re back.” You sighed.

“They should know better.” He quipped. “I don’t like the idea of them propositioning you while you’re here to relax.” He let a smile spread across his face as he looked over the club.

“Sadly might happen more and more.” You shrugged.

“Be careful of them. Shall we sit?”

“Of course.” You sighed. “Are you ok?”

“Why?” One of the girls brought his drink over. He took a sip.

“You seem upset.”

“I’m not. I’m going to do a round.”

“All right.”

You could tell something was wrong with Roman before he even made it over to you. And the closed door. What could possibly be bothering him, you wondered.

Something was up, you watched as Roman slipped his shades on. Sitting back you twirled your ring a little on your finger.

“What’s going on with Roman?”

Victor’s voice broke into your thoughts, you jumped slightly. “Victor, I swear I will never get used to your light steps.”

He chuckled.

“I don’t know. He arrived upset.”

As Roman returned, Victor went and did an opposite round.

“Baby?”

“Yes?” You replied sweetly. He rather liked how the lights twinkled in your eyes tonight. He couldn’t tell you he was feeling particularly old after seeing that gray hair.

“You’re my knock out.”

“I am.” You smiled. “You have made my heart flutter tonight.”

“Oh?”

“You just command the room. So handsome and just… I don’t know but I have always loved it, always will.”

He smirked, that made him feel good. He took a longer sip of his drink. “That’s me, baby.”

“And I get to sit here and be like, that is my fiancé while I see girls drool as you walk by.”

He rose an eyebrow. “Drool huh?”

You scooted over to him. He enjoyed how your fingers felt as they squeezed his thigh. “You better believe it.” He watched as your nose twitched, followed by a glow coming over you. You leaned in close. “You’re wearing my favorite aftershave.” He could feel as you sighed. “If we were down by the pier, I’d let you take me again.”

He chuckled. A dark sense of delight filled him, knowing he had taken you in total disregard of the statues that were supposed to be revered on that pier. He had taken you, and the cries of delight he pulled from you had made him feel very good.

Roman, sat down and gripped the arm rests. “Tell me you were tested, and it was negative.” He barked from behind his cloth mask.

The man nodded. “Yes, of course.”

Roman relaxed a little and removed the mask that covered his nose and mouth. He swallowed alright, “Go and look.” He resigned himself to needing to finally getting his inky strands finally dyed.

Soon, he felt Franco’s fingers rove through his strands, he gritted his teeth. Their eyes met in the mirror he set up. “Roman, it must have been a fluke. There is no other gray strands.”

“Don’t you dare lie to me.” He pounded his fist on the armrest.

“I’m not. You had the stress of reopening. The fucking pandemic. It was bound to happen.”

“I don’t-” He stopped himself before continuing. “Fine, well then I need a trim. My edges are getting ragged.”

“Roman, it’s early like I said.”

Roman just looked at him.

He nodded silently. With a swish, the razor sliced through his strands. After the comb ran through it, he looked sharp again.

A smile curled his lips as he felt your fingers entwine in his hair. He had been pouring over some maps and had not even heard your arrival.

He knew by the soft sound you made, that you were pleased with the trim. Did you get a trim today?” You whispered.

“Yes, I did.” He picked you up, your heels feels to the ground as a squeak escaped your lips.

You steadied yourself on his huge table.

“Did you meet with that guy who had the nerve to book you in my club?”

The demure appearance came over your face. “Is that really on your mind?”

“Well, I do still worry about my lovely fiancée.” He laid his hands over yours, the glimmer of the ring catching his eye.

“I like that you worry about me.” You breathed.

He easily stepped between your legs. “I always will.” His hand drifted up your skirt.

You shifted. “Roman, what if Victor and Doll Face walk in?”

He leaned in close. “We better hurry then.”

The ship had been picked up the cargo in Nightfall, but it was originally for another country, turns out the attack on Michael life, didn’t come from Victor, Henry was the only thing, planned by Victor.

“ The wine, is French. A continued order of the king, only this particular shipment came on behalf of Sir Marcel, I .. made sure I got detailed information” Luca arrived into Michael bedroom, humbled, his head was lowered, but his neck was covered in blood.

With the help of Bianca, Michael sat up, nodding to the new information, giving an nod to Luca “ I see, did you kill everyone.”

Luca nodded, stepping forward “ every single one, but I wanted to talk to you, I didn’t get a chance during the ball. It’s something important to me.”

Michael looked to Bianca “ Please go tell my sister..” as Bianca, hesitated but furiously pulled her cloak over her shoulder and headed for the port, to inform Carolina.

Luca took another step forward “ You remember when we invited to the ball, and we didn’t wear white, and I arranged everything and made sure things went smoothly?”

Michael raised a brow “ you made me give Ella a necklace and we had to change from our black family clothes, out of respect of them yes” he grunted, rather uncomfortable, and he remembered yelling and arguing with her the whole time. “ what this about, and I need to talk to you about something too.”

“ I would like you permission, to get to know her better, she..” he paused “ she’s been really a good friend to me, and I want to try..”

Michael raised his hand “ you want to try to see if there something there.” He understood “ I should be angry with you, for wanting to get to know the person, who sole objection is to destroy this family, and I should call you a traitor. But, actually I think this is a good, because you getting to know keeps our enemies closer, good, like her.”

Luca canted his head “ I don’t want to spy on her, I want to get to know her — I think, I might really like her”

Michael moved to sit up in his bed “ Are you ignoring the fact you are still madly in love with Layla, and she is having your baby, your going to complete regret this. Trust me, when I say this a terrible idea, but your a grown man, you don’t need my permission to talk to her and get to know her, but if you want to do anything further you will need, the kings blessing for anything title related. I promise you Carolina will not like this.”

Luca nodded, lowering his head “ she’s my cousin, and I love her. But she’s —“ he moved to sit at the edge of the bed “ she’s always angry with us.”

Michael smirked “ she’s not angry at us, she’s angry at the situation. Tell her how you feel, and if that doesn’t work, just let time .. allow her space, but let let know your there for her.. and I’m going to need you to do something for me.”

Luca nodded reassuring him, he would try “ what is it.”

Michael took a deep breathe “ Look, I’ve been away from Samira way too long, so I’m planning to go back, and I’ll be back when I can, but while I go I need you to not leave the isle, and lord over them, protect the twins, and let them help you, your not a little kid anymore Luca, your my heir, and as my heir your sole mission is to protect our home, can you do that, and not get caught up in romantic notions?”

Luca nodded “ I can do that..” he leaned forwarded hugging him.

“ my ribs, you idiot.” He winced in pain, looking down at him, now worried how was Layla going to handle this

In my state we are forced to have car insurance or we will be fined. I know that having the government intervene more in our health insurance seems like more of a step in a socialism direction but were we already going that direction anyway with car insurance AND we did already have medicare and medicaid. Hello everyone, I am an international student who's been in the USA (Buffalo, NY) for the past 2 years working hard on my masters (i'm 25 now). I bought a POS Saturn last year for 2000 dollars and, well, for that i needed to get car insurance since it's mandatory in this country. Since i was from abroad and i had a learner's permit at the time, i had to get insurance with my international license. Progressive was my only choice so i paid around 700$ for 6 months. I tried different insurance companies but they are all around the same range. Apparently, i was stupid enough to not get a credit card as soon as i landed in this country. I was raised with the if you don't have money, don't spend it philosophy so i just used my debit card. This is the only reason that i can see for these absurd rates. Every single one of my friends ( all international students ) pay around 200-250/six months dollars for their pieces of crap cars. I just feel like i'm not being given a fair deal. I came to north Carolina at the beginning of August from FL to stay with my aunt while I got my finances in order and she recovered from her back surgery. I plan to stay here until a bit after the new year. When I moved, I arranged to have my mail forwarded while i am here. Also around this time, I started searching for a new insurance provider because my rate had gone up with geico. I decided on progressive. When signing up for progressive, I signed up with my Florida drivers license number and my new nc mailing address. A couple of months later I received a letter from the state of Florida saying that they were notified my geico insurance policy was cancelled and to provide new proof of coverage. I went online and provided the information but apparently made an error when selecting the insurance company name. I accidentally selected protective insurance company instead of progressive. I was made aware of this error when I received a license suspension letter yesterday. Since then I have notified the state of Florida Of the error. I then received notice that my insurance was still not acceptable because Florida requires that if I have a florida registration, i must have a Florida policy. I called my insurance who confirmed that although they provide Florida coverage, I was under a nc policy even though I provided them with a Florida drivers license number since my mailing address was currently nc. I have had no lapse in coverage, but my insurance company cannot switch it back to florida until I am living there again at the beginning of the new year and can provide a valid address of where I will be living. I do not know where I will be living when I get back yet because I will have to find a new place to move into. Does anyone have any advice as to what to do in this situation? When I first moved to FL and transferred my tags, it cost me almost 500 dollars, so if i transfer them to NC for the time being, i will then have to pay 500 dollars again once I go back to FL""

“Zsasz, get us the fuck out of here.” When he climbed back into the Rolls, he saw you shaking and trembling. He exhaled. “Come over here.” Pulling off his mask, he reached over and out it on the passenger seat beside Zsasz who was already tearing through the streets.

He ruffled his hair, looking over he saw you still being consumed by your fear. He was used to seeing people at the other end of his wrath acting like this. He hated seeing you feel like this. He slid over to you.

“Baby.” He whispered. “Come here.” Wrapping an arm around you he pulled you close. He had felt you flinch but then you relaxed. In a breath, you wrapped your arms around him and buried his face into his good side. He ran his fingers through your hair.

Being with you made him face things he disliked, he mused. He was certain you had blood on your face and now that was on his suit. Also this need for comfort, he wasn’t used to giving it. He couldn’t explain it but when you wrapped your arms around him, he actually liked it. Annoyance did not claw at him. If anything, he really wished he could bring you even more comfort.

He’d love to promise you that he will get the head of Gillis but right now he knew best to be quiet. As he held you knowing he killed St. Clair filled him with happiness. She was responsible for the argument the two of you had this morning. The fucking pretty boy got her, he smirked.

The heavy metal door came down behind them as Victor pulled into the underground parking garage.

“Y/N, we’re home.” He tucked some hair behind your ear. “Let’s get you cleaned up.”

You looked up at him. “Cleaned up?”

He pressed his lips together and nodded. “Yeah.”

Worry crossed your face.

“I’ll take care of it.” He said to you. Zsasz, he noticed had opened the door. “Let’s get out of this dank parking garage. Yes?”

You nodded and followed him out of the Rolls. He looked at Zsas, “You know where it goes. Make sure that door is locked and then come up and meet me in my office.”

“Want me to give you sometime?” Zsasz, scratched the back of his head.

He exhaled. “Right now is not the time for games.” He gave Zsasz, a hard look. “Once up in the penthouse make sure the elevator only travels to your floor and mine. I do not want to be worried about it.”

“Sure thing boss.”

Silently, he took your hand and interlaced your fingers with his gloved one. Looking at it, he rather enjoyed its kind of odd balance. It was the two of you.

He brought you the bedroom, he stopped short of the bathroom. “Wait right here.” He hesitated at you closet but then he turned to his, you barely reacted to him taking his knife back.

Once in his closet, he shed his jacket. He would have to have another one made. He had been rather fond of the maroon color. Pulling off his gloves, he let them fall onto his jacket. A smile tugged on his lips as he looked at all the knives he had, he out the one you took and placed it where it belonged

Opening the drawer below it, he grabbed one of his t-shirts and a pair of his pajama pants. He knew what you had just got through had been a lot. He didn’t want shock or panic setting it.

With his shirt and pants slung on his shoulder, he led you into the bathroom. “Sit here.” He suggested once guiding you to bench he had in there. He placed his shirt and pants beside you.

You looked up at him. “Is it that bad?”

He put a finger under your chin and drew your face up. He shook his head. “No. But my girl should have to deal with this.”

You gave a soft smile. “Thank you.”

He smiled. “What kind of guy would I be?”

You nodded.

He went over and grabbed a wash cloth, he wet and soaped it up. “As much as I love you looking up at me,” He smirked. “Close your eyes, so I can take care of this.”

Looking, at your face seeing the blood splattered there. Incensed his anger. You were only part of this world because of him. How dare they.

He was just grateful, you had that idea. If he had just gotten the news you being killed. There would be even more blood on the streets tonight.

He would have Zsasz, find out what he could about Vanessa. Thankfully, he had set up the transfer but boy executed it because he waited making sure the plan would work. He had not expected this. The other girls would be upset. Everyone, seemed to like her. David on the other hand, had been a decent driver but he had no connections with the others and no family to speak of. GothamPD could handle him.

More reason, for him to dislike Gillis and her gang. Making more unnecessary trouble. He gritted his teeth

Gently holding your chin as brushed and rubbed the blood away. “Stay this way, now I have to rinse the soap away.”

He threw away the wash cloth. Grabbing a new one he soaked it with warm water he twisted it and grabbed a dry one and you would be set.

When he back, he noticed that tears had run down your cheeks. He sighed, “It’s not your fault. You had an amazing idea. It saved you. And I will make Gillis and her gang pay.”

Your eyes were watery. “Ok. Good.”

He held up the wash cloth. “Hold the dry one for me, baby.”

You took it and he made sure all the soap was gone. He went over it a few times. After drying you off, the wash clothes were on the floor. He’d never use them again. He helped you to your feet.

Easily he helped you out of your clothes. “Ooh.” He made a sound as sweet as he could while letting his finger trace the band of your panties. “These are very nice.” But then he helped you into his pajama pants followed by his t-shirt. “There’s my girl.” He pulled you close and brushed aside the fresh tear.

“Baby, I have to gather my men and protect us here. Now you can lay on the sofa in my office while I talk with Zsasz or you can stay in here.”

You swallowed. “I’ll stay here.”

“Alright, thats my girl.” He smiled. “I am very proud of you tonight.”

“You are?”

“Yes. You had a solid plan and it worked. And those people will pay for what they did.”

You looked down. He drew your face up. “Maybe I will let you scream at them when I capture them.”

You smiled then that made him feel better. He was relieved, he didn’t want you getting depressed. In this world people died, he was just glad you were not one of them.

“There’s the smile that pulled me in.” He smiled. “Ok, I’ll come get you if the need arises. Maybe get some rest. It has been a rough night.”

You nodded.

Roman, was right your plan worked and thankfully it wasn’t you. Perhaps, when things calmed down the two of you could do something for Vanessa’s family, if it was needed. You picked up the discarded wash clothes, your clothes and brought them to the chute that dropped them into the incinerator. You saw where he dropped his suit-jacket and gloves. It was best to let him decide what he wanted to do.

Going the room where you kept your stuff, you gathered Vanessa’s and also put them down the chute. Pushing the button, you let the incinerator do its job.

As you walked back to the bedroom you watched as Roman hunched over maps sipped at some whisky. He undid the first few buttons of his shirt. Seeing him do what he did his best made you feel good, it made you feel safe.

Going back to the bedroom, it was too much work to pull the blankets aside so you laid on top of them. You barely laid down and sleep claimed you.

“We can do that.” Victor sent out the messages. “Who do we want down stairs?”

“The ones who are directly on my payroll. The other ones,” He pressed his lips together. “Those who uphold and pledge their loyalty can stat staked out in the other buildings. Give them an incentive. A bonus if they stay there ams stay good look outs and support if she comes.”

“Daddy’s here.” He breathed close to your ear and pressed a kiss on your cheek.

Draping an arm over your side, he gave himself up to the sleep that had been pulling hard on him.
