SO’S GLEE EPISODE RANKING: NO. 47

I started a Full Glee Episode Ranking between seasons 5 and 6 over two years ago now (!!!). My opinions have changed somewhat since then (retrospect is an interesting thing), and I need to include the thirteen season six episodes I neglected in my original list. With the two year anniversary of the show being over a few months away, I thought I’d count down to by posting an episode every day. I’ll tag using: glee episode rankings

Here we go…

47. Sexy (2x15)

Hey! It’s the obligatory sex episode - which Glee handles pretty well, compared to other PSA-y topics they tend to tackle. Yeah - Holly’s presence is kind of annoying, and does anyone really care about her possible relationship with Will? But the rest of the episode does well - Brittana gets some emotional beats, while Klaine attempts pure sexy, to a humorous degree. And we get Burt being the world’s greatest dad again.

High Points:

Glee’s views on sex are pretty well done for a teen TV show. No, I don’t really care for Holly’s ‘everyone has a random’ line - cause no, not everyone does. But the fact that they’re having these conversations - that it’s a real part of people’s lives and not something that should be taboo, and the fact that Burt gives one of the best parent/kid sex talks ever makes this a pretty special episode.

The Warblers getting sexified!

Oh bbpenguin Kurt!

Sue is hilariously random in this episode.

Brittany and Santana struggling to figure out their emotions is pretty neat, and it’s opposite Kurt and Blaine’s quest for sexy. I like the gender reversal going on here.

Blaine’s talk with Burt. Burt’s talk with Kurt. Just -- so much good stuff.

Low Points:

The way Will goes about teaching about sex in his classroom, though - no.

Will and Holly’s ‘romance’ ug no.

Music:

Do You Wanna Touch Me: Eh, I’m not really a fan of this song, and Paltrow singing it doesn’t make it any better. It works for what they’re doing, but not something I really enjoy.

Animal : Oh, how this is delightful. While I wouldn’t rank this as one of my favorite Klaine duets, it’s a bunch of Warblers at a foam party, and it’s amazing.

Kiss: Man, who decided this was a good idea? It....doesn’t really work as a tango. Sorry Will.

Landslide: Brittana getting emotional - they sound really gorgeous on this one, and it makes a pretty powerful and moving point.

Afternoon Delight: The sheer irony of this song is what makes it work. It’s not something I’d listen to on its own, but in context, it’s pretty hilarious.

Final Verdict: Holly’s a bit annoying, but the rest of it holds together nicely. Klaine and Brittana get some great stuff here, Burt gets some great stuff here, and the subject of sex is handled pretty well.
