I must be behind was Donald Trump actually arrested?
I don't think arrested is the right work, there was a grand jury convened to do what grand juries do, determine if there's enough evidence to justify the cost of bringing charges.
Not guilt or innocence, just should this move forward and they said yes on 34 different charges, so trump flew up for his arraignment where he and his lawyers were there to hear the formal charges and enter his plea.
So in a land of technicalities no he wasn't really arrested, showed up at court on his own and left on his own after the charges were read, it's alleged financial crimes and on top of that it's not like a person that could just fade into the background if he felt like running so afaik didn't even need to fuss with his passport I don't think.
Now the question is, is it even conceivably possible for the man to get a fair and impartial trial.
No would be the answer to that.
Should be exciting, I think the DA would be very happy if he could get the donald to plea to something that would bar him from public office for life.
That's my theory about the whole thing at least as to why they're doing this now.

I was kinda looking forward to the new Animaniacs cause I was hoping it would be able to make actual good political humor but after seeing there pro-gun control joke and Warner Brothers gross joke at Johnny Depp expense I feel like it's already gonna spiral into more woke stuff.
The moment that I realized it was going to aim at an adult audience, I knew it wasn’t going to be very good. If it wasn’t trading on nostalgia and the two best parts of the old show, it’d have nothing.

I've only ever played the first Borderlands game and I enjoyed it and apparently it's a very popular franchise. I've always assumed it was beloved with 2 being considered the best one but since the announcement of 3 I've been hearing that the series has fallen from grace and that 2 isnt as all good as I originally heard. Why is that?
I mainly blame that on Gearbox’s reputation taking a bit of a dive over the past few years

I've recently hears that California banned skittles? Something called the skittles act. Know anything about that?
Haven't heard of it, but I will go and put on my "Carnac the Magnificent" turban and make a prediction.
This is going to be something along the lines of the 'don't say gay' law that absolutely did not prohibit people speaking about lgbt issues.
Probably a chemical used in the manufacture of Skittles and other foods n stuff, going with a dye or coloruing agent of some sort because that's usually what it is.
Let's see how I did.

Several viral posts on X, including this one from actor and TV host Mario Lopez, claim California is banning Skittles because the candies contain at least one of the banned additives.

No, California is not banning Skittles.
WHAT WE FOUND
Many people have referred to the California Food Safety Act as a “Skittles ban” because the legislation, when it was first proposed, banned the use of titanium dioxide in food products. The chemical is used in Skittles and other foods to enhance their color and sheen.
But the newly signed law no longer bans titanium dioxide. It only lists four food additives: red dye No. 3, brominated vegetable oil, potassium bromate and propylparaben.
The law prohibits any person or entity from manufacturing or selling a food product that contains any of these four chemicals beginning in 2027.
“Skittles sold in America do not contain any of the four ingredients” listed in the California Food Safety Act, a spokesperson for Gov. Gavin Newsom said.
VERIFY also searched the ingredients lists for all varieties of Skittles candy listed online and did not find any of the four food additives that will be banned in California.
Skittles’ manufacturer Mars did not respond to a request for comment.
California Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel (D-Encino), who authored the law, said in a press release that it does not outright ban any products, either.
“It would instead require companies to make modifications to products sold in California and likely prompt a nationwide transition to safer alternatives,” he said.
In a signing statement, Newsom also said delaying the bill’s implementation until 2027 gives brands “significant time…to revise their recipes to avoid these harmful chemicals.”
“Californians will still be able to access and enjoy their favorite food products, with greater confidence in the safety of such products,” Newsom said.
Pez candy and some varieties of Peeps marshmallows would need to reformulate their products under the law, since they contain red dye No. 3.
Some sodas, including Mountain Dew, contain brominated vegetable oil. The food additive is used to keep citrus flavor from separating in beverages.
Potassium bromate is used as an oxidizing agent in various types of bread and baked goods, while propylparaben is commonly used in small amounts as a preservative in food and beverages.
The National Confectioners Association (NCA), a trade organization for candy makers, has voiced its opposition to the California Food Safety Act.
"This law replaces a uniform national food safety system with a patchwork of inconsistent state requirements created by legislative fiat that will increase food costs," the NCA said in a statement. "This is a slippery slope that the FDA could prevent by engaging on this important topic. We should be relying on the scientific rigor of the FDA in terms of evaluating the safety of food ingredients and additives.”

How much of a Christmas is actually pagan? Cause everyone keeps claiming Christian holidays are all pagan but idk that just seems to convenient?
Not really much of any of it, whole lot of things going on at the same time which does not mean there's any real correlation between them the date of Christmas was set where it was set because that was 9 months after the Annunciation which is a fancy word for the angel telling Mary that she's gonna have a Yeshua growin inside her, the date for that was set because it's the spring equinox and lunar calendars are used all over the world (Dec 25 was the Roman Winter Solstice again lunar calendars)
Adding this since it's fairly good stuff even if not sourced,
Christmas is actually a 12 day thing (like the song) not week long, Saturnalia goes the direction on dates Christmas doesn't once again solstice a very easy day for everyone to know, nothing sinister or involving any appropriation since nearly every culture across the globe has a celebration then.
Unless you want to claim early Christians also stole from the Hopi in modern day Arizona.

Jewish Americans have the Christmas tradition of going out for Chinese food, some folks didn't know about this getting upset thought the gentiles were making jokes, which we were but we got all our jokes from our Jewish friends.
But ya most every one of the main Christmas traditions have a decidedly not pagan origin even if they look that way some of the other ones were just local traditions that got folded in.
The whole thing about the Coptic church in Egypt celebrating is also true, as St Peter was to Rome starting the church there St Matthew was to Egypt so obviously both started round the same time.
Easter is another one people flip out over, main thing that's "stolen" there is when it happens, because well Passover was when it happened so kinda hard to skip that.

There were probably some, and as always you got the ones that put themselves in the line of fire for people

Idk if you've seen anything about it but Neil gaiman has been making Twitter rounds trying to defend the RoP show basically amounting to him going around calling people who disagree with the changes racist and all the usual stuff. Leaves a sour taste in my mouth I can respect him as a author but its clear defending progressivism is more important then integrity.
all I've really seen is him being noncomittal about the show specifically, no expressed opinion one way or the other about the actual show just kinda going after critical people that have no real clue what goes into putting together a production like that.
Which is something he's got experience in, not just Good Omens either, how many different books of his have been adapted into movies and show. By brain is locking up on it but I know Coraline, Stardust, American Gods, Graveyard Book is on the way so him popping off on folks coming in trying to start something between him and Musk.
That's the main one i've seen, I don't see a single word up there praising the show, not criticism, just Neil being snarky.
First time I saw that one, one of the captions on the post was unhappy that Neil was praising the show, I'd like someone to point out where he did that.
Also side note: In Musks defense here, he dropped the twitter deal at least in part because the disclosure of the % of bot accounts was wayyyyy off the mark that was one of the main things for that at least.
This is new to me
haven't seen any of the implied stuff you mentioned so as always opinion is subject to change based on new evidence but for right now I'm not seeing a whole lot of negative stuff coming from the guy.
I really hope it's exaggerated, I really really really like seeing the guy on here he's been our celebrity user for so long, wil is here but he's a massive douchebag so he doesn't count.

So I understand that Biden has played a part in rising gas prices. But I'm having trouble understanding what he has done specifically. Could you perhaps explain to me as best you can what he has done to raise gas prices with some sources?
This is a 11 page fairly regularly updated memo from the 'Republican Study Committee"
They're one of the caucus in congress like the "Congressional Black Caucus" nothing nefarious, got the "Progressive Caucus" just get together with like minded members of congress and try to brainstorm how to get agendas passed and such.
It's a republican group so it's obviously going to be biased, but honestly I can't locate much of anything in relation to this that isn't.
Memo has their list of what well here's part of it, hopefully it's legible on whatever screen you have
if not, click on through the link, it's a .gov so you know it's official, runs from his inauguration to some time last month I think.
Looking through it some of the things that have happened do look like long term positives, but in the short term they're making it difficult to fill a gas tank.
Hopefully the PDF covers what you're looking for, gonna better, more complete, and won't go off on semi related tangents like I have a tendency to do.
Here's another set, that will undoubtedly repeat some of what is in the congressional groups list. This is dated Dec 4 so not as up to date as the other is either,.
Also "AMERICANS FOR PROSPERITY" they too will be biased, but it looks like they've sourced their claims in the article and just like the other I see some lines that actually feel like they'll be good in the long term, but at this moment long term isn't going to cut it so well for a lot of people that are struggling.

The Supreme Court is listening to the lawsuit for Bidens jab mandate and Justice Sotomayor is just straight up lying her ass off. Absolutely no faith in the SC at this point so looks like I'm gonna be out of a job.
Not seeing anything about her in any of the articles I'm skimming, looks like Thomas and Roberts might be leaning toward the rubber stamp but not too hard.
The question raised is is it within the power of the executive branch to bypass congress like this, and the biden staff person that liked the whole 'ultimate workaround' kinda sinks the argument that the admin isn't aware that they were doing something outside the scope of their authority.
The people cheering for the mandate don't seem to realize that they're cheering for a tipping of the balance of the separation of powers.
Probably won't happen this administration but if it keeps going they're dropping stepping stones down on the path to allowing the president to become a dictator who can rule by decree.
That's one of my takes at least.
I'm not opposed to the vaccine, just to forcing people to take it.

Since Putin began his military buildup on Ukrainian borders – just since then – the price of gas at pumps in America went up 75 cents. And with this action it’s going to go up further.
"I’m going to do everything I can to minimize Putin’s price hike here at home,” Biden continued. “In coordination with our partners we already announced that we are releasing 60 million barrels of oil from our joint oil reserves.”

That’s self-evident,” Biden also said. “But it’s no excuse to exercise excessive price increases or padding profits or any kind of effort to exploit this situation or American consumers.”

I like how he's already blaming price gougers instead of anything related to his policy that's put us in this situation.
Saw talk about easing up on Venezuela sanctions so we could buy from them too.
I don't see how people don't understand that it's far more earth friendly to do as much of the production as we can at home instead of having the massive pollution machines that are oil tankers bring the stuff across the ocean.
With all of this it just seems like he wants to lose their control of congress for midterms

How would you compare the stonewall riots to the riots happening now? People are bringing up the stonewall riots to try and excuse the riots happening now but I don't believe there the same.
I can’t really speak on the Stonewall riots since I’m not super well versed in them. I just know that the Riots today serve no purpose other than to satisfy the shortsighted greed and lust for violence from criminal dipshits who are making a mockery of the legitimate protests by burning down and looting from people who had literally nothing to do with George Floyd’s murder. I don’t give a shit how much you hate white people or capitalism, this is a corrupt cop’s wet dream in that it gives him an excuse to beat on as many black people as he wants to “restore order.” And anyone who unironically uses “hurr durr they have insurance” in regards to innocent people losing their homes, possessions, workplaces, etc should say that right to their faces and see how well that goes.

So I'll be going back to work tomorrow and while I'm happy to go back I'm also scared to because I work at a casino so lots of people gathering I work in the kitchen so I don't have to worry about customers but I'm still worried even with the new safety protocols. I know the virus isn't a death sentence for people my age but with my asthma I get a little paranoid. Any tips on how to not freak out all the time at work?
You know all the basic rules about safe distancing, masks, not touching your face, all those things?
Practice them.
I know that sounds a bit odd but... It’s what I do to keep calm while working!
I have a mask and gloves, I wear them all the time. I practice safe distancing. I wash up on break before I touch anything, I’m careful with my drinks.
And silly as it might seem, having them as a little calming ritual keeps me fine.
Use the proper practices to remind you that you’re safe while doing them, and it helps!

So I'm trying real hard not to freak out I've been back to work for a few weeks now but we still had people on furlough well just found out yesterday those people were just let go and its got me terrified that I could be let go next even though I've been back for awhile the thought of it is ramping up my anxiety way more then even covid is.
Well, I think the most hopeful thing to think about is that you HAVE your job right now. That pretty much says that, at least for the moment, that they probably want you there.
Unless new bad things happen, at least think of that, and hell. While it might screw us over in the long run, at the very least the democrats DID pass a bill a while back allowing people on unemployment to get extra money. Just try and calm down, and if nothing else look at your options, and prepare things if you have to fire for unemployment.
It’s not a cheerful answer, but would you really have wanted a ‘Nothing will ever go wrong!’ answer? Iunno maybe but I suck at those!
