Elise had been an integral part of the system for nearly thirty years, but she still counted herself as one of its critics. Even so, she couldn't suppress a wave of maternal pride watching Rosalind carrying out her duties. Her daughter had always been self-possessed, even as an eight-year-old girl pounding her way through her very first piano recital. Whatever her feelings, it was a pleasure to watch her perform.

ANCHOR | ...our top story tonight: HM King Andre has arrived in Nakawe for a planned 4-day visit to Uspana, his first official visit to the country since 2001.
ANCHOR | The King is accompanied on this trip by Crown Princess Rosalind and the Duchess of Laye. This is the Duchess' first time in Uspana, and her first overseas engagement since her honeymoon tour with the Duke of Laye.
ANCHOR | The King's packed 4-day itinerary will center around the opening of a brand-new exhibit of Armorican art at the Crown Museum of Uspanian Culture and Arts, a project led by Prince Frederick and the Institute for Armorican Culture.
ANCHOR | Prince Frederick—and his girlfriend, Lady Emily Chandra—were on hand to greet the Armorican royals, along with Crown Prince Arnaut of Uspana, Crown Princess Lorraine of Uspana, and Princess Leonor of Uspana.
ANCHOR | Crown Princess Rosalind paid tribute to her Uspanian hosts by accessorizing with jade, another demonstration of her skill at diplomatic dressing.
ANCHOR | In fact, all eyes will be on the Crown Princess throughout this trip. According to royal experts, this visit is intended to showcase Rosalind's accomplishments as Crown Princess and establish her presence internationally.

Jacques and Vivi embark on 9-day international tour
BREIZH - The Duke and Duchess of Laye were all smiles as they embarked on the first leg of their planned 9-day tour of Maritrea, their first official overseas trip as a family of three. The Layes’ packed itinerary features five countries in just nine days, with planned stops in Ilvalian, Nalore (@atreanroyals) Illyria (@the-lancasters) Orillia (@theroyalthrones), and Aducia (@ardeney-sims). The couple are joined on tour by 15-month-old Prince Hugo, who is slated to make his first official public appearance during the Layes’ stay in Aducia.

#IlvalianIsAtrea explained: Why one stop on Jacques and Vivi’s Maritrean tour is causing controversy in Atrea
GRANITE FALLS - Prince Jacques and Vivienne Meijer were met with jeers and boos in Atrea following their controversial visit to neighboring Ilvalian. On 11 May, the Duke and Duchess of Laye made their first tour stop in Ilvalian, attending the opening performance of the Granite Falls Philharmoic with Aveil Valeth, who reigned as the last queen of Ilvalian prior to its incorporation into the Atrean Empire.
Within Atrea, the Layes’ Ilvalian tour stop was met with widespread outrage. Hunter Blakely blasted the Duke and Duchess for ‘legitimizing’ an ‘insurgent separatist group within the Ilvalian region.’ Clips from the news show were widely circulated on social media under the hashtag #IlvalianIsAtrea, which quickly became a trending topic within Atrea. In addition, two members of parliament moved to add the Layes’ controversial tour stop to the parliamentary agenda, calling for “an open discussion of Armorican interference” within the Ilvalian region.
Despite the controversy, the Layes’ tour is scheduled to go ahead as planned. The Duke and Duchess have not announced any changes to their itinerary, and their press team did not respond to ANN’s request for comment.

Andre and Frederick offer royal welcome to visiting Uspanian princess
BREIZH - The King and second-in-line braved the rain to welcome Princess Leonor of Uspana as her plane touched down at King Everard International. Much of the planned seven-day visit will center on the Princess’ ongoing work with the Institute for Armorican Culture (IAC) on an upcoming exhibit of Armorican art in Uspana, slated to open in 2017. This is Princess Leonor’s first visit to Armorica in more than a decade.

’Storm of the century:’ Record-breaking flood leaves thousands stranded.
SURMONTE - The National Disaster Service (NDS) has declared a state of emergency in Mercer County after floodwaters reached a record-breaking high Friday morning. This week’s storm, which dumped more than 20 inches of rain over Southeastern Armorica in less than 48 hours, caused major flooding across the region, washing out bridges and major highways and leaving thousands stranded. “Search and rescue remains our number one priority,” said Ethan Beauchamp, head of the NDS. “We don’t know how many people are out there, waiting for help.”

Queen Elise and Vivienne, Duchess of Laye visit flood victims in Surmonte
SURMONTE - Victims of the September Floods got a boost from a surprise royal visit earlier this week. HM Queen Elise and HRH Vivienne, Duchess of Laye traveled to SE Mercer on Wednesday morning to meet with victims of the September Floods. Their day-long visit began with a kitchen shift at a temporary shelter in Surmonte, where the royals assisted volunteers preparing and serving meals. “The first thing [the Duchess] said was, ‘how can I help?’” said Mariah Cyriana, a volunteer coordinator with the National Disaster Service (NDS). “She was incredibly down-to-earth and friendly. You got the sense she really was there to help.”

Prince Frederick is the New Royal Patron of the Institute for Armorican Culture
BREIZH - As part of the Royal Family’s ongoing charitable work, Prince Frederick has taken on the patronage of the Institute for Armorican Culture (IAC). Founded in 1902 and headquartered in downtown Breizh, the IAC works to promote and preserve the Armorican language and culture through educational initiatives and institutional partnerships. Freddy is the non-profit’s third royal patron, taking over from Queen Elise who inherited the patronage from Dowager Queen Yvette upon her death in 2006.

Theo would be working most of the time she was in Uspana: her schedule was packed solid with meetings, tours, and late-night networking events. She was tagging along on the trip as part of Rosalind's entourage, there to support her agenda and make connections with Uspanian organizations working toward the same goals. She tried to convince herself that it'd be good to stay busy, but she suspected that what she really needed was time to think.

6. Who creates and enforces laws in your country? What is the punishment for breaking the law?
Armorica's legislation is done by its parliament, which consists of a "high house" made up of peers and a democratically elected "low house." These bodies are jointly responsible for writing and voting on new laws, which the monarch must sign before they take effect. IDK who enforces the law because I don't want to think about cops and prisons <3
28. When and how does your royal family announce births and the names of newborn children?
In the modern day, births and names are generally announced soon after they happen by the Armorican News Network, which is a publicly-funded news station, analogous to PBS or the BBC.

BREIZH - More than 12 million people tuned in to watch Friday’s royal wedding, according to numbers released by the Leinsen agency. Prince Jacques, now the Duke of Laye, married long-time sweetheart Vivienne Meijer in a lavish televised ceremony early Friday morning. The ceremony was the first royal wedding in Armorican history to be broadcast live on a major news network. A simultaneous livestream hosted on the royal family’s official website garnered an additional 3.4 million viewers at its peak.

BREAKING: Blackwall Palace announces birth of royal baby on New Year’s Day
BREIZH - At noon today, the bell in the Peteran chapel at Blackwell Palace will be rung 150 times to celebrate the birth of a new royal baby, the first to be born to the Armorican Royal Family in over two decades.
According to a notice placed outside the gates of Blackwall Palace, Prince Jacques and fiance Vivienne Meijer welcomed their first child, a boy, early in the morning on January 1st. Royal watchers are calling the birth of a new royal baby on New Year’s Day a “good omen” and a “sign of hope” for the embattled royal family, whose once-sterling public image has taken a beating in recent years.
The full text of the announcement read:
Miss Vivienne Meijer was safely delivered of a son weighing 9 lbs 1oz at 4:06 am on 1st January at Breizh Medical Center. His Royal Highness Prince Jacques was present for the birth.
The King and Queen and Miss Meijer’s parents, Dr. Morgan Meijer and Dr. Nicholas Meijer, have been informed and are delighted by the news.
This is Prince Jacques and Miss Meijer’s first child, and the first grandchild for both Their Royal Majesties and Dr.and Dr. Meijer. Miss Meijer and her child are both healthy and thriving.
Prince Jacques and Miss Meijer are engaged to be married this spring, at which time their son will be legitimized and granted a royal title.
Although he is currently considered illegitimate, the newborn, whose name is expected to be released later this week, is part of the official line of succession. He is currently 4th in line to the throne, behind his aunt, uncle, and father.
Following the official announcement of the birth of the King’s first grandchild, several government buildings in the Armorican capital were illuminated with blue lights to celebrate the royal baby boy.
Celebrations, which will include fireworks and a military flyover, are slated to continue throughout the weekend.
The royal baby will be honored with a bank holiday on Monday, 3 January.

JACQUES AND VIVI LEAVE HOSPITAL; INTRODUCE SON TO THE PRESS
BREIZH - Prince Jacques and fiancee Vivienne Meijer were all smiles as they left the hospital with their newborn son, Hugo.
After being discharged from Breizh Medical Center, the royal couple took part in a brief photocall with their newborn son, introducing the future prince to select members of the Armorican press.
The new parents told reporters that they are “over the moon” and “looking forwarding to spending time with family.” The family, including baby Hugo, then returned by car to Blackwell Palace. They will reside in the capital with The King and Queen until their planned wedding this spring, at which point it is expected that Prince Jacques will be granted a title and the couple will establish an independent residence in the seat of their new borough.
The Prince and Miss Meijer dressed in rich blue tones, coordinating with their son, whose felted bonnet from luxury brand rebekhanasims reportedly sold out hours after the public caught their first glimpse of the royal baby.
Baby Hugo’s outfit wasn’t the only one attracting attention online. Miss Meijer’s sapphire-toned sweater dress drew raves from fashion bloggers, but some royalist commentators criticized her “haggard” appearance. “Short skirt, sloppy bun, greasy skin...the new face of the monarchy is decidedly undignified,” blasted one Daily Shield columnist. “Miss Meijer continues to be a national disgrace, and we cannot expect His Majesty to continue tolerating such low standards of conduct from a representative of the royal family.”
Others came to the new mom’s defense, praising her for representing 'real moms' on the national stage. “It’s not fair to judge a new mom three days postpartum,” read one viral response to the shield column. “Cut her a little slack!”

ANN Royal Exclusive: Inside the royal engagement
Lorraine Simon for ANN: Tell us all about the proposal! Did it come as a surprise?
Vivienne Meijer: [Vivienne laughs] To both of us, I think.
Prince Jacques: It all happened very quickly. We'd actually had an argument right before, and I was sitting alone in my bedroom and just thinking a lot about things. And I realized that I missed her, and I realized how empty my life would be without her. I made up my mind very quickly after that.
VM: I was shocked. At the time, things were kind of rocky between us, and I was definitely not expecting him to get down on one knee. We've been together so long, of course, and I think both of us sort of assumed we'd get married someday. But I wasn't expecting it to happen anytime soon. It was a huge surprise.
ANN: When did it happen? Was it romantic?
PJ: A few weeks ago. We had to wait to announce it because we needed formal approval from my dad’s council, but the actual proposal was last month. It was at our old flat downtown.
VM: Romantic...I wouldn't say it was romantic. It was very emotional, but not romantic.
PJ: I thought it was romantic.
VM: I think I'm just more of a traditional romantic. I thought he'd propose with...I don't know, a dozen red roses and a hot air balloon. [Vivienne laughs] It wasn't like that at all, just the two of us in our kitchen.
ANN: Of course, you've both since moved into apartments at Blackwell Palace.
PJ: Yes. Now that things are official, it made sense for both of us to move back home.
ANN: Vivienne, what's it like living in the palace?
VM: It's been a big adjustment, that's for sure. Before we were engaged, I hadn’t spent very much time there, so I'm still just trying to, you know, learn where everything is. [Vivienne laughs] There are so many rooms, I get lost sometimes. And in the palace, you're around people all day, because of all the staff and footmen and everything. So you're never really alone, and that's been an adjustment. Everyone has been really lovely and kind, though.
ANN: Now, you're not just getting married, you're also expecting-
PJ: That was a shock, too!
ANN: -you're also expecting. Has the baby affected your wedding plans?
VM: We're not just getting married because of the baby, if that's what you're asking.
PJ: We'd been talking about getting married, but I think the baby definitely um, sped things up, if that makes sense.
VM: I'm due in January, and that's not enough time to plan a wedding. So we're not getting married until next spring. So by then, the baby will be a couple months old, and we're hoping he can actually be in the wedding.
PJ: Yeah. We're really excited about that. As much as possible, we want the baby to be included in stuff.
ANN: How have your families reacted to the news? Are they excited?
PJ: Oh, very.
VM: A baby is always exciting. And I think there's a part of them that's thinking, you know, since we've been together so long, they're thinking “its about time!”
PJ: Yeah. And it was actually my sister's idea to propose, so that's-
VM: What? You didn't tell me that.
PJ: Yeah. Rosalind was the one who kind of sat me down and said, 'you should propose.' It was actually her ring that I proposed with.
VM: ...I thought it was your grandma's?
PJ: It’s an heirloom, Vivi. It got handed down.
ANN: Handed down, and now it’s yours! That must make you feel so special, knowing your ring is a family heirloom.
VM: Yes.
PP: Can we see it?
VM: [Vivienne extends her hand to display the ring]
ANN: It's absolutely stunning. Can you tell us a little more about it?
PJ: It’s three cushion-cut pink sapphires with halo settings on a white gold band.
ANN: Wow, you really know your stuff!
PJ: [Jacques laughs] I wrote it all down. I knew you’d ask, so I wanted to make sure I knew how to describe it.
ANN: How did you choose the ring?
PJ: Well, that was the one that Rosalind offered. Like I said, everything happened kind of suddenly, so there wasn’t time to really think about it. I had to use what I had.
ANN: That’s very practical. Can you tell us more about your wedding plans?
VM: Well, we wanted to get married in the spring, obviously. It just seemed nicer than a winter wedding. The ceremony will be in the Peteran chapel in Blackwell Palace.
PJ: Yeah. And even though it’s going to be in the palace, we wanted to share our big day with everyone, so it’s going to be broadcast live on ANN. I think we’re going to be the first royal couple in Armorican history to get married on TV.
ANN: That’s true, your parents’ wedding was private.
PJ: Yeah, we’re a little less private than them, I think.
VM: We’re still very private.
PJ: Yeah. Of course. We don’t want to put all our secrets out there.
[Both laugh]

King Andre to "step back” from royal duties amid growing public concern
King Andre speaks to business leaders at last year’s Armorican Climate Summit (c) ANN Stock Service
BREIZH - Three weeks after King Andre was last seen in public, Blackwell Palace has confirmed that he is taking “a period of leave” from his royal duties, according to a statement released earlier today.
“His majesty has made the difficult decision to step back and undertake no further royal duties at this time,” the statement continued. “He deeply regrets any disappointment which may be caused by the cancellation of his planned appearances.”
The King’s unexplained absence from public life has fueled abdication rumors, which have been growing since Blackwell Palace’s announcement earlier this year that his three adult children would take on full-time royal duties. Some commentators have theorized that the King is planning to retire from public life and give up the throne in favor of his daughter, Crown Princess Rosalind.
The Crown Princess is the most popular member of the royal family. In a recent poll, 72% of adults surveyed by the Armorican Polling Agency (APA) reported positive or strongly positive feelings about the Crown Princess. Just 54% of respondents reported positive opinions of the King, up from 43% three years ago.
Analysts have suggested that the high-profile romantic travails of King’s children have led to renewed interest in the royal family.
The “royal renaissance” began this summer with Prince Frederick’s legal battles against the tabloid press and has continued with the recent announcement of Prince Jacques’ engagement to long-time girlfriend Vivienne Meijer, who is expecting the couple’s first child in early January.
