“A German Sea Raider Strikes Off Africa – And No Survivors In The North Atlantic” (Far More Detailed Version on Our FB Page) 80 Years Ago, Today (Tue Dec 8 1942: U-Boats aren’t the only German sea weapons. They also deploy “Surface Raiders.” Disguised as normal freighters, they would approach Allied vessels. Once in range, disguised pieces, such as crates, bulkheads, and pilot-houses, would drop away, revealing all manner of weaponry, blasting their prey out before they had the chance to radio for help. In both Wars, the Germans use them to great success. By late ‘42, most have been captured or sunk, but a few still lurk; one is the “Michel” (Pic 1) with a crew of 400 and the fire-power of a light cruiser – SIX 6-inch guns, 6 torpedo tubes, AND 2 Arado AR-196 float-planes (Pic 2) In only 8 months, she’s sunk 13 ships. In the Indian Ocean 300 miles SE of Madagascar, she finds No. 14: the Greek steamer “SS Eugenie Livanos” (Painting, Pic 3). Michel shoots her to pieces. 11 of the Livanos’ crew are killed, and the rest are taken prisoner aboard Michel. Meanwhile, the U-Boats attack Convoy HX-217 and get 2: 362 miles SE of Greenland, the British tanker “SS Empire Spenser” (Pic 4) is sunk by U-524 (Type IXC); 1 Dead, 57 Survivors. Meanwhile, 400 miles east, the American steamer “SS James McCay” (Pic 5) straggles behind the convoy and is sunk by U-600 (VIIC). No Survivors – No trace of the 62 Crew are found. Meanwhile, the U-Boats don’t get away unscathed. Nearby, disaster strikes for a pair of VIIC’s – literally. In bad weather, U-254 is rammed by U-221. Instantly fatal, only 4 men survive a harrowing rescue by U-221. 41 Officers and Men go down with U-254. Meanwhile, 100 miles south U-611 (VIIC) has her career cut short – permanently. A Consolidated B-24 Liberator bomber of 120 Sqdrn, RAF, (B-24 of 120 Sqdrn, Pic 6) loiters the area on Anti-Sub patrol. With an absurdly long range of 1,500 miles, and a bomb-load to match, “Libs” are ideally suited to the job. U-611 is spotted – the massive bomber dives in for the kill. The attack is fast and lethal – U-611 is quickly sent to the bottom. All Hands – 45 Officers and Men - go with her. The Eggman Empire Navy's scout planes have spotted an enemy Fleet south of horseshoe Bay and the closest force were the German 1st Naval Squadron, the American 3rd Fleet and aircraft from the Japanese 1st fleet form the carriers Zuiho, Taiho ans Hosho, in the middle of the situation the German Battleship Bismarck Launched an AR-196 Float Plane to find the enemy Fleet in middle of the flight the plane finds the fleet and rádios its position then dove to fly low away form the enemy fleet when they feel a bump and pilot notices its losing oil from the engine and the engine overheated causing the plane to make a water landing luckily for them the AR-196 has floats so it could be recovered with a crane from a ship, in the landing process the pilot hit something on landing and had to wait out for rescue while the battle raged on the Bismarck got close enough to the plane and sank 2 ships in the recovering process, while they were hoisting the plane captain Lindemann and Commander Blitz notice there was tridents stuck on the engine and the tail and there was a seapony with it's tail stuck in the aluminium plates of the float, then Blitz recognized here as Princess Skystar from the hippogriphs and told lindemann if war starts because of this incident he would have lindemann courtmarschaled for this because Blitz does not have time to make this war with Equestria Longer, so he kept the princess alive until se was free from the float and off she went and took the tridents her bodyguards threw at the plane and the naval battle was won by the Eggman Empire's naval forces and also it shows you how terrible it is to sail these waters it has so many sea creatures risking to damage your steering, propellers it's worse then sailing the fjords of norway there the codfish hides in large numbers. Hope you like it Please Comment
