A truly good “invisible fence” at work here. The Easy Pet Fence Steel Hex Web is over 5 feet tall and you can’t even see it. Just saying.

A/N: Hey guys! Here’s Chapter 3! you can also find this @ https://www.wattpad.com/story/88012466-r-is-for-revenge-camren
CAMILA
“Okay, wait, wait. So, you mean, you’re on vacation now? Who’s in charge there if you’re here? You like, do your job in long distance or something?”
“No, this is not a vacation, Dinah, more like, enhancement.” I explained looking at my best friend who’s currently making herself comfortable sitting on the front seat of the car. She had her sunglasses on. I can’t see her eyes, but her furrowed eyebrows clearly imply that she’s probably a little confused of what I just told her.
“I figured I needed a break from all the office stress and the drama. The company’s doing good for the past 6 years when dad’s still the one running it and right before, you know, I happened. Well, it’s as if I don’t know that it would be me,” I added, swerving the steering wheel to the right. “I have to take full responsibility of it, knowing Jason would never step out and handle things even if dad chooses him to lead. As for who’s in charge right now, Ally is left there to take care of everything.”
“Who’s Ally?”
“Ally Hernandez. She’s one of my cousins,” I stated, trudging my foot over the gas to increase our speed a little. “She’s one of my best co-workers and one of the few people I trust the most.”
“She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Stanford University in California. We’ve been working so damn hard these past few months,” I continued. “She’s a good friend and ally. Like her name,” I figured out a good pun on this and I suppress a smile.
“So you mean you’re just working ass off these past 2 years?” my best friend scoffed, glaring at me. She has her sunglasses sitting on her lap now. “That’s the only reason you haven’t Skyped me last two months?”
“As if I have a choice, DJ,” I replied calmly. “I don’t exactly have all the time in the world, you know.”
“I am your best friend!”
“I know that!”
“Well duh!”
“Yes duh!”
“Watch it!”
I slammed on the brakes the moment I realized we’re near the intersection. The red light’s on and I haven’t noticed it the last minute, since I was busy bickering with my best friend. Dinah and I shared a mortified look for about 3 seconds and started laughing.
Our closeness never did change.
Back when Dinah was still living in the U.S., life was one hell of a roller coaster ride. Ever since we were classmates in elementary up to first year high school, everything seemed easy with her by my side. I was never much of a talker at school. With Dinah, I can laugh easily without worrying what others might think.
I’m not the popular kid, nor the nerd. I was a wallflower. The one who sits and observe the people around her.
And because of that, I get picked on. Picked, as in physically, and also emotionally. Dinah was there to help me because I never talk about it at home. With her Polynesian background, whenever I’m with her I feel safe because she always promises me to give these bullies a “Poly beat down” if ever they lay their hands on me. And just to add, Dinah is always very caring. She doesn’t want anyone to know, but she always has a soft side. At least for me.
Dinah was the only friend I had. And I’m keeping it that way.
So, when my parents knew what happened in school, they pulled me out.
I’ve never seen Dinah so broke when I was gathering my things from my locker that day. The fact that I only had one friend and that is her, I almost forgot that she only had one friend, too.
And that friend is leaving her. That friend Is leaving her in this pit disguised as high school.
I tried to reason out with my parents. I told them that I was fine, that Dinah was there to help and protect me, that Dinah was a good friend, and that I don’t want to leave, but they rejected my request. After all, it was my idea to go to a common school for high school and the only condition sat up for me was to not get in trouble.
Analyzing my situation, I kind of screwed up.
So, after the incident, my parents decided to have me home-schooled. Nobody knew my lifestyle in high school except for Dinah and I think that’s what made them insult me. They think I’m this weird, mysterious kid who’s just anybody’s shadow.
Maybe I was.
I was pulled out from my thoughts when I heard honks behind us.
“Woah, zoning out in the streets will get you in trouble, Mila,” my best friend laughed.
“Sorry, I was distracted,” I hummed. “So, how long before we actually get there?”
“Five minutes, give or take a few. We’re almost there actually,” she answered. “How did you get this baby anyway?”
I grinned at the topic. Yes, this car really is my baby.
“Oh a gift from mom last month,” I replied. “Kind of a late 19th birthday, as she calls it. I didn’t want it at first because I still have my last car from my 16th and I don’t want my parents spoiling me.”
“What changed your mind?”
“I could not not accept it when it’s already parked in my garage in the morning,” I chuckled in amusement. “Meanwhile, my Mercedes was nowhere to be found.”
“You are one lucky girl.” Dinah chortled lightly. “Turn right, Mila. Just park there, in front of that blue gate on the right.”
“Okay, ma’am.”
I turned left, then a little right to angle the car on the right spot, just in front of a small up and down white house fenced with a blue gate. Dinah went out and I followed her quickly. I glanced around and noticed that the houses in this village are actually crowded.
“Sorry, it’s not much.” Dinah smiled at me shyly. “But it’s home.”
That’s when it all fell into place. Dinah’s studying very hard to finish and pull her family from all of these. I knew Dinah had a lot of siblings, and she has big dreams in providing for them. I can’t help but feel a little overwhelm for the fact that I haven’t had the chance to help her in this kind of situation.
“You okay, Mila?” She raised her eyebrows at me.
“Yeah, I am.” I quickly covered. “Let’s get inside.”
She nodded at me and opened the front door.
“Mom! Someone’s here to see you!”
“Dinah? I’m in the kitchen.” Her mom answered. “Who?”
“Hello, Mrs. Hansen,” I smiled warmly.
Her mom’s reaction went from shock to surprise to happy.
“Camila!” She exclaimed, engulfing me in a tight hug which I quickly reciprocated. “What are you doing here? I thought you’re in States.” She let go and beamed at me. “Look how big you’ve grown already! I missed you darling. Since when were you here?”
“I missed you too, Mrs. Hansen.” I answered lightly. “I’m here to finish my Bachelor’s and Master’s for that matter. I just arrived a few hours ago.” I said, glancing at my watch. “I’m going to be here for a few years actually.”
“Why didn’t you informed me, Dinah?” she gasped at her daughter. “She could be starving and you didn’t tell me she was coming over! I could have prepared something for you dear. Would you like to eat something?”
“Mom, I don’t think-“
“It’s fine Mrs. Hansen,” I interjected. “Besides, Dinah and I are just here to ask you an important question.”
“What is it?” she asked quizzically.
“Well mom, you see, Mila’s new here in Australia,” Dinah started, fiddling with her thumbs.
“Uhm yes. And, Mrs. Hansen, I don’t exactly know my way in everything or everywhere.” I chuckled nervously.
“She’s living alone in this new house, just around the corner and it is kind of big for her.”
“What we mean is that-“
“Can I stay at her house?” Dinah blurted out so suddenly. “I mean, mom, really. Camila’s new and it would be a drastic change of atmosphere. She’ll be dealing with adjustments to the new surrounding and as her best friend–“
Mrs. Hansen laughed at her daughter’s rambling. “Of course darling, you can stay at Camila’s home.” She said. “I don’t want you two apart either after many years of not seeing each other, other than on video call and pictures of course. Just try to visit us, sometimes you know? Or give us a call?”
“Of course, mom.” She sighed deeply and hugged her mother. “Thank you so much! I’ll just go grab my things. I won’t be long.”
-
“Milaaaa! Where are you? Come here! There’s a pool in here!”
Dinah screamed at the top of her lungs. I can’t help but laugh at my best friend’s excitement. She’s been ecstatic ever since we came back a few hours ago. Hell, I think she’s even far excited strolling my new house than me.
“Hold your horses, China Jane, I’m in my room! I’ll just finish my application so my enrolment could get done!” I screamed back.
“Okay!”
I keyed in a few words and my student’s form came out from the printer a few seconds after. I smiled to myself, thinking about this new chapter in my life. School stress is different from office stress. I’m not running from my responsibility, if that is what others think it means.
In a world where life is a trampoline, one must fall first in order to reach higher.
That’s what I have in mind. I need to take a break so that I can at least assess how much I can give back to our company and by the time I come back, it would soar higher than it did before.
If I can’t pull this school thing together, at least I can go back to Los Angeles and run the company. But in office, if I can’t pull all of the things I have to do before the deadline, everything my mother and father worked hard for will all be wasted.
See, this is the reason I came here. I want my brain to still function at the same time so school should be the best solution. Not that I need to study for Bachelor’s and Master’s though, I learned everything I need to know in homeschool, but I want a college diploma as well. Sense of pride, if that’s the correct term.
I jogged over to Dinah, whose clothes are dripping wet because I figured she jumped right into the pool.
“Hey! What took you so long?” Dinah grumpily asked.
“Oh I finished my enrolment and guess what?” I smiled. “I’m officially a commerce student at Queensland University!”
“Congratulations Walz!” she jumped and tried to hug me.
“Nope, get dried first.” I slapped her arm, shoving her to the side.
“Jeez no need to be violent Camila,” she laughed.
“On serious note though, Dinah, I want to talk to you about something.” I said carefully. “I don’t want to be barging in and stepping on the line about your lifestyle, but it’s clear that you need a little financial help. So, I was thinking Dinah, if I can help you spend a little for your school projects as well as your tuition.”
“Mila, I-“
“I know you don’t want that, but I want it Dinah. You’ve been the best best friend one can ever have and I can’t thank you enough for all the things you’ve done for me. Since you’re a scholar, your tuition is smaller, but I still want to pay it for you. And as for your school projects, since I practically asked you to stay with me then I think that’s what I can give you in return.” I quickly added. “I don’t want you to think about it anymore. Or your mom. Please don’t be mad or feel bad about this because this is entirely from my heart.”
She had tears brimming in her eyes. I know I could have said otherwise but I love my best friend so much that I am willing to give her anything that I can. She started crying and pulled me in for a hug.
“Y-you asshole, M-Mila,” she sobbed the insult and I laughed at her softly. “Th-thank you for b-being there f-for me.”
“I love you Cheechee.” I grinned.
“I love you too Chancho,” she said, her voice a little broke.
