One of the birthday presents Mom bought me, this cool glass and black metal frame to hold this lovely picture of Conrad Veidt I found on eBay. Conrad is one of my favorite historical figures, as an actor and a person. He is best known for being a star of the German expressionist movement. His most famous roles are in “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari” and “The Man Who Laughs”. He’s also known for playing Major Strasser in “Casablanca” and other Nazi parts, which is ironic because he was very much against that party, to the point where he was heavily involved in anti-Nazi theatre and had to flee his native Germany because he found out there were plans to kill him. He died in 1943 of a heart attack, so he didn’t live to see the Nazis’ defeat, but he left most of his estate to the war effort. Yeah, he needs to be more well-known and there needs to be a biopic about him.
