#its about finding purpose thru leadership#he was so ready to give up but ted saw the untapped potential in him and guided him towards it#its about realizing that he LIKES watching people grow and knowing that he had a hand in it#its looking to ted for approval after he gives advice to isaac#coming back to coach the team bc when he sees the boys shine he cant help but shine along with them#being there for jamie bc nobody else was going to#what do u understand? that it has to be me. can’t be anyone else.#and roy was DONE he considered his life as good as over when he couldnt play football anymore#he never thought he’d do anything important in his life ever again#never thought he’d feel fullfied— satisfied— proud of himself ever again#and then ted came along and guided him into realizinf actually yknow what feels even better than scoring a goal or winning a game?#watching the BOYS do that after i guided them through it#and yknow what feels even BETTER than watching them succeed on the pitch?#watching them succeed AS PEOPLE#roy fully subscribes to the ted lasso style of coaching— not about the wins and losses.#helping these fellas be the best versions of themselves on and off the field.#so is growing up without someone believing in u#roy commits to the ted lasso school of coaching and its the best thing that ever happened to him#completely rejuvinates his view of life bc he has a PURPOSE again. he has a way to feel proud and fulfilled in his life again#greatest gift ted couldve possibly given him and he managed to do it with that ONE LINE FROM THE BOOK#IT HAS TO BE ME. CAN’T BE ANYONE ELSE.#god AND AND AND. the way jamie fits into roy’s arc too#bc jamie is the one who really pushes roy from being a coach in football— watching the boys grow on the pitch#to being a coach in LIFE— watching the boys grow AS PEOPLE#jamie is the one that makes him realize the thrill of watching someone build themselves to be better and knowing u helped them build that#is better than ANY other rush he could ever DREAM of recieving from the pitch#pardon my essay but im so emotional about roy and leadership#its about PURPOSE. ted gave roy back his PURPOSE and there was no greater gift he coudlve possibly given#eli don’t look
