THIS IS THE BASIS OF WHAT I LIKE TO CALL THE "BYE BYE BIRDIE" AU THAT LIVES IN MY HEAD. WHERE ANAKIN IS A PODRACING STAR AND A HOUSEHOLD NAME WHO VOLUNTEERS TO FIGHT IN THE CLONE WARS AS A PILOT. and the jedi are like "absolutely not that's stupid" but palpatine is like "the republic is losing heart, we NEED this for the PR and also you dont have a choice" so enormous crowds turn out to cheer wildly as steps onboard a star destroyer for the first time and the jedi and the clones are both like 'oh force this is going to be the most embarrassing disaster, a fancypants celebrity joining us' but then it turns out that he's Anakin and he wins the hearts of all the clones super quickly, etc etc & shenanigans ensue

never thought these two things would come together but here we are
