biting my lips and telling myself it took several years for rowling's TERF-y opinions to be so well known it damaged her public reputation, before realising that cawthon's donations to conservative politicians were made known while trump was still the fucking president

After seeing so many people claim that they thought Scott Cawthon wasn’t making money off of FNAF anymore, I have to wonder if he created that confusion on purpose. I can’t confirm that he did (and it’s not my personal initial theory) but I have to wonder.
First of all, Scott - simply enough - published Security Breach.
I’m also including Wikipedia because I couldn’t be arsed to change my Steam’s language.
Second of all, when he retired the second he was criticised for the first time, Scott... again, retired. He didn’t give away the rights to the series, neither did he claim that he would (remember that Scott left believing he was in the right - he’s not trying to apologise to his fans). He retired. Homeboy is 43 years-old and doesn’t have to work anymore, but that does not mean that he won’t profit off of the IP that he owns.
There is no proof at the moment that he will stop publishing future games. Even if he lets other studios develop the games, and/or other scenarists write them, FNAF will remain his intellectual property.
Basically, until a trusted source (and yeah, that excludes me) confirms that Scott willingly gave away his copyright, author’s rights and trademark, you have to assume that FNAF still belongs to him.
As of today, what is clear is that Scott published Security Breach and that he claims that he won’t be writing and developing the next games in the series. He never said he was giving up his paycheck. Maybe one day he will. Be he hasn’t for now, and I don’t think he will.
(@ the scott stans who will interact anyway: Obviously this post was written for those who already don’t want to support Scott Cawthon and are already asking if he’s profiting from the new game. This is a post coming from someone whose opinion is already set, thanks to the knowledge that I have, so I don’t care what your opinion is of people who don’t support your poor baby Scott. I certainly don’t care if you think I’m a bitch.)
