Lucien and The Lure of Forbidden Fruit (MLQC Character Analysis)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hello dear readers!
I’m sure that everyone knows by now that Lucien is my favourite MLQC boy (even after the events of chapter 13), and I’d like to take this opportunity to explain why.  Needless to say, this analysis will be lengthy and include lots of spoilers (for certain Lucien-related dates and the main story, up to and including chapter 14), so the rest will be posted after the break!
Please keep in mind that I know next to nothing about what’s happened in the story beyond the new chapters released in the English server, so apologies if my theories prove incorrect to those who know better 😆
In response to the lovely Anon, on a superficial level, Lucien is exactly my type: tall, dark and handsome, and a genius to boot.  I love my men intelligent with a side of suave, someone who isn’t afraid of wearing his feelings on his sleeve — and this sexy professor delivers.  But I swear my reasons for loving Lucien extend beyond this paragraph 😂 Please do me the favour of reading on!
@blueanimewriting, I see Lucien’s character as being quite complex, and labels such as “yandere” alone are not enough to encapsulate him as a whole.  Let us consider what we know of Lucien (in the English server) so far.
Lucien, aka Ares, is a high-ranking agent of the Black Swan Collective (BSC) — a super shady secret society with equally shady ambitions for the world, whose plans seem to hinge on MC’s cooperation.  In Chapter 13, it is revealed that Lucien’s kindness and attentiveness to the MC was all part of his plan to lure her into a trap on behalf of the BSC.  On the surface, everything about this screams betrayal.  But is it really?  More on this later.
Going back to @blueanimewriting’s question, a yandere is typically seen as a character with a sweet exterior who is capable of engaging in extremely violent and deranged behaviour when it comes to anything/anyone who challenges their relationship with the love interest.  In my understanding of this archetype, the aggressive behaviour typically doesn’t reveal itself until love has been established, in that either the yandere realizes they are in love or are already in a relationship.
As we’ve seen in Chapter 13, Lucien is already highly respected and feared within the BSC, where he is known especially for his ruthlessness. The man won’t hesitate to dispatch Black Swan minions with little more than a flick of his hand, teleporting them to god knows where (we just know that the thought alone is enough to make them shake — remember Josie after her little illusory arson trick in Chap 13-1?). The man even smiled when his eye got split open as punishment for dragging his feet on his mission and not capturing MC.  There is little doubt that Lucien is no stranger to violence, whether he’s the source of it, or at its mercy - a fact that most definitely precedes his relationship with MC.
The professor’s villainous behaviour does not come as a result of him falling in love, as is typical with a yandere.  He is a man tasked with a goal, and his actions must be interpreted through that lens.  Did he stalk MC by moving in right next door?  Absolutely.  Was it out of love?  Probably not from the outset; he likely needed to monitor her as part of his mission.  Did Lucien ever direct violent behaviour towards other potential suitors for MC’s affections?  I don’t recall him ever behaving aggressively towards Victor, Gavin, or Kiro.  Lucien’s deception and manipulation seems to stem solely from his mission, not from love.
Is Lucien innately evil, simply “born to be bad” so to speak?  It’s hard to be certain at this point with the information we have.  What we DO know is that the boy grew up without both parents at a young age, and may have been deprived of the opportunity to learn about proper human interaction — love, in particular.  Hence, Lucien learns about affection by watching old Hollywood films in the cinema until the early morning hours, and reads books on how to be a good boyfriend.  He asks MC to teach him how to love in his New Light Date.  Perhaps it was just a bit of shameless flirting.  Or perhaps, he was being completely sincere.
Of the sincerity of his affection for MC, however, there can be no doubt.  Scattered throughout various dates and the story itself, we find instances of Lucien fighting his growing feelings for her.  In his Aquarium Date, he admits that he has become too involved with the girl, despite knowing he should have kept his distance.  In his Midnight Date, we witness Lucien ordering himself not to think of MC whilst clutching his chest in pain, the moment clearly illustrating that love had “taken root in his heart.”  We also catch a glimpse of the professor’s true feelings in his aptly named True Love Date, in which Lucien tries his hardest to avoid MC (likely to prevent himself from falling even more in love with her), and fails spectacularly, displaying some extremely jealous behaviour when he mistakenly thinks she has feelings for someone else.
And while I could be wrong (depending on Ares’ ultimate agenda), the strongest evidence of Lucien’s love for MC would be the fact that he dragged his feet for so long on his mission, and still let her go in the end.  If he was a total villain through and through, would it have been likely that MC would’ve escaped simply by saying that Lucien owed her a thank-you gift?  I think not.  Her ass would’ve been teleported back to BSC headquarters so fast.
So, we get to the crux of the matter, the reason why MC’s romance with Lucien/Ares will prove to be one of, if not the most, heart-wrenching ones in the game.  Their relationship is star-crossed: Romeo and Juliet, Evolver-style.  Lucien knows full well he was not to fall in love with her but couldn’t help himself and did it anyway.  MC obviously had feelings for Lucien, and even in the face of his betrayal, still initially refused to accept it (“...you are not Lucien.  He would never harm me.  Ares and Lucien have nothing to do with each other!”).
The very image of the blood-red Lycoris blooming in MC’s dream at the beginning of Chapter 9 can be interpreted as referencing this ill-fated romance: when the flower blooms, the leaves have already fallen, and when the leaves grow, the flower has already wilted — the two can never be together.  In the same vein, Lucien and MC are desperately in love with each other, but are standing on very different sides of a war that is gradually brewing.  This is the stuff of angst-filled romantic dreams, for everyone knows forbidden fruit is the sweetest.  It is also one of my favourite romantic tropes.
Tumblr media
Yes, Lucien manipulated MC’s feelings in order to advance his own goals.  But the professor never anticipated that he would fall victim to his own feelings for her.  And that was the moment when his world was no longer black and white, cut and dried.  He let his emotions get in the way of his mission, and was sorely punished for it.  But perhaps his greatest punishment came when he had to watch his own confession of betrayal crush MC’s heart (let us not forget that look of sorrow that flashed in his eyes during Chapter 13’s showdown).
Yes, Lucien hurt us.  But in doing so, he also hurt himself.
If you’re still reading at this point, 1) thank you for sticking around as I prance atop my soapbox, and 2) if you’re still not convinced, consider this: would Elex really make you fall in love with a main character only to make you hate him to pieces?  Who in their right minds would blow tons of cold, hard cash on those gorgeous Lucien karmas, such as…
Tumblr media
…if he didn’t have a way of ultimately redeeming himself in the end, however far away that is?  I am a firm believer that Lucien/Ares will have a redemption arc, and that it will be absolutely fantastic when it happens. 💕

[Translation] Lycoris no Mori Drama - Track 2 B
Tumblr media
Here’s the final part! Sorry for ending the last one on a cliff-hanger ^^
TRACK 1 | TRACK 2 A | TRACK 2 B
Under the cut for length, enjoy~ Disclaimer: I am in no way an expert on lycoris flowers so what I said here about them might have some errors.
VICTOR:                  (panting) Please… Let me make it in time…!
 (Start flashback)
VICTOR:                  Why do something so foolish?!
VICTOR:                   Blood is your brother, isn’t he?
GRAHAM:                That’s right… I know that it’s unforgivable!
VICTOR:                   Then why?! There should’ve been other methods!
GRAHAM:                Then who in the world would save him?!
GRAHAM:                No one ever did help!
GRAHAM:                We’re trying our hardest just to live…!
VICTOR:                   I would’ve helped you! None of this would’ve happened!
GRAHAM:                That’s only for your satisfaction, Victor!
GRAHAM:                I didn’t want to die no matter what sacrifice I had to make!
GRAHAM:                Even if no one thinks I’m useful. Even then…!
GRAHAM:                I want to live!
(End flashback)
 ***
 (Door opens)
VICTOR:                   (gasps) This is…
VICTOR:                   Alvin…
VICTOR:                   How unbelievable…!
BLACK HOOD:       Alvin’s blood is scattered about.
BLACK HOOD:       Just like a lycoris flower.
BLACK HOOD:       Oh, how beautiful it is.
BLACK HOOD:       A beautiful end for the much despised Alvin.
BLACK HOOD:       A lot of people hated him. It’s only obvious that he would be killed.
VICTOR:                  Even if he is, killing him is still wrong.
BLACK HOOD:       That’s not true.
BLACK HOOD:       There are people who have no worth alive.
BLACK HOOD:       Even you hated him deep inside your heart.
VICTOR:                   …!!
BLACK HOOD:       Who killed him? You have so many in your heart that it’s hard to tell.
BLACK HOOD:       I wonder who did it~
BLACK HOOD:       Someone who could kill this cruelly~
VICTOR:                  It’s the werewolf!
VICTOR:                   There’s no doubt about it!
VICTOR:                   Going after Blood and now even Alvin…!
VICTOR:                   How could he?!
BLACK HOOD:       My cute and precious Blood.
BLACK HOOD:       He may have already been taken in by the werewolf’s poison as we speak.
VICTOR:                   Blood’s in danger!
BLACK HOOD:       Now, the pieces have all gathered together.
BLACK HOOD:       No one can stop it anymore.
 ***
 RANDOLPH:            Blood…
BLOOD:                    We… met again, huh…
RANDOLPH:            Yeah.
RANDOLPH:            Our promise has been fulfilled.
RANDOLPH:            I didn’t… think that we’d meet again.
RANDOLPH:            What were you doing?
BLOOD:                    I was looking at the lycoris.
BLOOD:                    Since they’re so beautiful.
BLOOD:                    They’re my most favourite flowers.
BLOOD:                    Did you know?
BLOOD:                    That a lycoris’s flower and leaves do not meet.
BLOOD:                    While the flower is in bloom, its leaves are concealed.
BLOOD:                    When the flower wilts, the leaves start to bud.
BLOOD:                    They can’t exist at the same time.
BLOOD:                    They’re just like the both of us, aren’t they?
RANDOLPH:            Just like us…?
BLOOD:                    Why do you have such kind eyes?
RANDOLPH:            That’s because…
RANDOLPH:            You’re the one I’m looking at.
BLOOD:                    But why…
BLOOD:                    Why are your smiles so sad?
RANDOLPH:            That’s…
RANDOLPH:            Because when I’m with you, my chest feels like it hurts.
BLOOD:                    Tell me.
BLOOD:                    Where does your heart belong?
RANDOLPH:            That’s…
RANDOLPH:            It belongs with you.
BLOOD:                    Liar…!
BLOOD:                    I trusted you.
BLOOD:                    You were so nice and warm.
BLOOD:                    I thought that you would understand me.
BLOOD:                    I thought that we were connected even without us saying it…!
BLOOD:                    Yes…
BLOOD:                    The one who thought that…
BLOOD:                    Was it just me?!
RANDOLPH:            Blood…!
RANDOLPH:            That’s wrong! You’re wrong!
BLOOD:                    And yet you still deceived me! You were planning on kidnapping me, right?!
BLOOD:                    I know all about it…!
BLOOD:                    In exchange for money…
BLOOD:                    I was…
BLOOD:                    (holding back tears) You would…!
RANDOLPH:            I felt the same!
RANDOLPH:            I felt happiness when I was with you!
RANDOLPH:            I didn’t know that I could feel this way!
RANDOLPH:            These feelings are not a lie!
BLOOD:                    (crying) I really loved you and yet…!
(Blood stabs Randolph)
RANDOLPH:            Blood…?!
RANDOLPH:            Why…?
BLOOD:                    (still crying) This is…
BLOOD:                    To make that moment last forever…
BLOOD:                    My pitiful Randolph…
BLOOD:                    If someone’s going to kill you…
BLOOD:                    I’ll send you to Heaven with my own hands.
(Blood stabs him again and Randolph screams in agony)
RANDOLPH:            (gasping and panting) Bl…ood…
BLOOD:                    Plus…
BLOOD:                    Hurting someone like this would make me have the same sins that you do.
BLOOD:                    I’ll be able to understand your feelings more.
BLOOD:                    Now… Randolph…
BLOOD:                    I’ll release you from this harsh reality.
RANDOLPH:            Yeah…
RANDOLPH:            That’s great…
RANDOLPH:            The best way to close my life.
RANDOLPH:            (panting and crying) You really are…
RANDOLPH:            A nice person…
(Blood flows out from Randolph’s wound)
RANDOLPH:            This wound that you gave me…
RANDOLPH:            This pain…
RANDOLPH:            It’s the proof of happiness.
RANDOLPH:            This is great.
RANDOLPH:            It’s fine like this…
BLOOD:                    You finally smiled.
BLOOD:                    When you smile, I feel happy, too.
RANDOLPH:            I’m really glad…
RANDOLPH:            That the last thing I’ll see… is your smiling face…
RANDOLPH:            It’s the same smile as… that night…
RANDOLPH:            Promise me… one last thing.
RANDOLPH:            That you’ll…
RANDOLPH:            Forget all about me…
RANDOLPH:            All your memories of me… Go to a place where no one knows…
RANDOLPH:            And start a new life.
RANDOLPH:            I want you to see a new, wider world in my place…
RANDOLPH:            It’s okay…
RANDOLPH:            I’m sure…
RANDOLPH:            That you’ll forget about me soon…
RANDOLPH:            I’ll be wishing for you to find a new happiness.
RANDOLPH:            Please be happy…
BLOOD:                    I won’t forget you.
BLOOD:                    Never.
BLOOD:                    Because right now is when I’m happiest.
BLOOD:                    Already…
BLOOD:                    Your wish has already been granted.
RANDOLPH:            Ah…
RANDOLPH:            So warm…
RANDOLPH:            Just like this… In your arms…
RANDOLPH:            I can take my last breath while feeling your warmth…
RANDOLPH:            Nothing can ever surpass this happiness…
RANDOLPH:            Thank you.
RANDOLPH:            I love you…
BLOOD:                    I love you.
 ***
BLACK HOOD:       Now your heart belongs to me.
BLACK HOOD:       Your true feelings will never fade no matter how much time may pass.
VICTOR:                   (running) Blood, are you okay?!
BLOOD:                    Victor…
VICTOR:                   Damn werewolf. Get your hands off of Blood!
VICTOR:                   Get away from him!
(Blood’s knife falls to the ground)
VICTOR:                   A knife…?
VICTOR:                   He’s dead…?
BLOOD:                    Yeah.
BLOOD:                    I killed him.
VICTOR:                  Are you alright? Did he do something to you? Are you hurt anywhere?
VICTOR:                   Thank goodness you’re fine.
VICTOR:                  This is self-defence. You don’t have to worry about anything.
VICTOR:                  It’s obvious that the werewolf would be killed.
BLOOD:                    Obvious that he’d be killed…?
BLOOD:                    You have no right to speak ill of him.
VICTOR:                   …!!
VICTOR:                   That werewolf killed Alvin. Alvin, who did nothing wrong.
VICTOR:                   He’s truly a ruthless monster!
BLOOD:                    The one who killed Alvin is…
BLOOD:                    Me.
VICTOR:                  What… did you say…?
 (Start flashback)
BLACK HOOD:       Now! Kill him resolutely!
(Door opens and Randolph runs away)
ALVIN:                      Are you a werewolf that can’t kill humans?
ALVIN:                      You’ve changed a lot.
ALVIN:                      Did someone strip you of your fangs?
(Door opens slowly)
ALVIN:                      I’ve been waiting for you, Blood.
BLOOD:                    Was that Randolph just now…?
BLOOD:                    Why is Randolph with you?
ALVIN:                      I cannot tell you about it.
ALVIN:                      Blood. You were sold by Graham to pay for his debts.
BLOOD:                    …!!
ALVIN:                      And the one who took on that job was Randolph.
ALVIN:                      That’s why you should not forgive him. The one who hurt you was right in front of your eyes.
BLOOD:                    My brother…?
BLOOD:                    And… even Randolph?!
BLOOD:                    I trusted them…!
BLOOD:                    I trusted them and yet…!
BLOOD:                    Why?!
ALVIN:                      Sorry for giving you quite a shock, Blood.
ALVIN:                      But it’s okay. Money is no problem.
ALVIN:                      You just have to kill me.
(Alvin pulls out a knife)
ALVIN:                      I’ll give you my heart.
ALVIN:                      I’m sure it’ll sell well.
ALVIN:                      I’ve always felt sorry that I’ve been such a burden to you and your brother.
ALVIN:                      If this life can be of help to you…
ALVIN:                      Then I have nothing to lose!
(Alvin raises the knife)
BLOOD:                    STOP! I don’t want to see anyone die anymore!
(Alvin and Blood struggle for the knife)
ALVIN:                      Let go…! Blood!
(Alvin stabs himself)
BLOOD:                    AAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!
BLOOD:                    Alvin…! ALVIN?!
BLOOD:                    H-he’s dead…
BLOOD:                    (starts crying and then laughing)
BLOOD:                    A-Alvin…!? D-don’t go! Don’t leave me alone…!
BLOOD:                    (crying) I’m… begging you…
(End flashback)
 ***
 VICTOR:                   No way…
VICTOR:                   There’s no way that’s true…!
VICTOR:                   You killed Alvin…? I-I’m sure that’s not true.
VICTOR:                  I-it’s an accident! Please tell me it was so.
BLACK HOOD:       (having taken over Blood’s body) The feeling of having killed someone is still fresh.
BLACK HOOD:       I can’t call something I did myself an accident.
BLACK HOOD:       I was so scared.
BLACK HOOD:       It was supposed to be terrifying and yet… I feel relieved somehow.
BLACK HOOD:       That maybe this will save me… or something.
VICTOR:                  (gasps) Blood…?
VICTOR:                   You…
BLACK HOOD:       If you still think that it’s impossible then…
BLACK HOOD:       Shall I show you?
(Black Hood picks up the knife)
VICTOR:                   (panicking) T-that knife… D-drop it.
VICTOR:                  Drop it!
BLACK HOOD:       Killing one or two people makes no difference.
BLACK HOOD:       Oops, I’m wrong. Let’s make that three. With you in it.
VICTOR:                   Stay away from me…!
VICTOR:                  (grabs his gun) D-don’t come near me!
BLACK HOOD:       With you gone, I’ll be free.
BLACK HOOD:       And I’ll be going to a world where no one knows me.
BLACK HOOD:       Since I made a promise with Randolph.
VICTOR:                   Stop it…!
VICTOR:                   Don’t do it!
VICTOR:                  Blood is…!
BLOOD/BLACK HOOD:    I’ll obtain everything with my own hands!
(Gunshot and metal clinks)
 ***
 BLOOD:                    That’s right…
BLOOD:                    This is fine…
BLACK HOOD:       One small error becomes a lifetime’s regret.
BLACK HOOD:       Leaving footsteps that can’t be erased from one’s heart.
BLACK HOOD:       Why do people yearn for it?
BLACK HOOD:       Is it to get a hold of one’s sins?
BLACK HOOD:       Riding with the wind… I could hear the lycoris’s smile.
 ***
BLOOD:                    I was looking for you! You were here all this time, huh?
BLOOD:                    I came here to fulfil our  promise!
RANDOLPH:            This is different from what we promised, isn’t it?
RANDOLPH:            I believe I told you to forget about me.
BLOOD:                    There’s no way I can forget about you, you know?
BLOOD:                    Plus, I can’t imagine my happiness without you in it.
RANDOLPH:            Let’s start a new life together.

[Summary/Thoughts] Lycoris no Mori Drama Tracks - Part 2 B
Tumblr media
Here’s the final installment of the summary of Lycoris no Mori!  This is obviously not spoiler-free so please read at your own discretion ^^
Part 1 | Part 2 A | Part 2 B
I’ll also be translating the official character diagram for this series ^^
Under the cut for length, enjoy~ Also, sorry in advance for cursing in some parts of the commentary ^^
Here’s the long summary of the final track:
Continuing where we left off, Alvin (Masato) continues on saying what he can offer Tokiya to help capture Otoya. Cecil still goes on and tempts Tokiya, whispering to him how he should just kill Alvin, too, while he’s at it. Cecil then questions Tokiya as to why he’s hesitating.
Masato continues on with his super dramatic and poetic monologue, saying that he doesn’t have much longer to live and how it’s his destiny. Masato then goes on and says “there’s no one left to save Blood” He persuades Tokiya to kill him and the scene gets cut.
The next scene is Ren running and hoping that he makes it in time. He has a flashback of his conversation with Reiji. They argue about why Reiji did what he did and Reiji says that he had no other choice but to let Otoya go because there’s no one out there who’ll save him. Ren says that he would have but Reiji retaliates that Ren’s only doing it for his pride.
The flashback ends when Ren reaches Masato’s house. Cecil’s there again and comments on how Masato’s scattered blood looks like a lycoris flower. He says afterwards that it was obvious Masato would die since he’s someone a lot of people hate. (Cecil, you’re so heartless)
Cecil taunts Ren into thinking that a werewolf killed Masato and Ren runs off to search for Otoya. After Ren runs away, Cecil goes into a short monologue about how “all the pieces have gathered and that it can’t be stopped anymore.”
The next scene is a scene between Tokiya and Otoya. Tokiya calls Otoya’s name and he talks of how they fulfilled their promise to see each other again.
Otoya talks about how the lycoris flower is his favourite flower and how it resembles the both of them. They have a heart-to-heart talk here but I won’t go and describe it because it’s too detailed and I’ll just leave it for when I’ve translated the drama CD.
When Tokiya says that he’s on Otoya’s side, Otoya gets upset and calls him a liar. Otoya goes on about how he trusted Tokiya and thought they were friends. He then reveals that he knew all along that Tokiya was asked to kidnap him and all that. Tokiya retaliates and says how it’s not what Otoya thinks. He goes on and says that the happiness he felt when he was with Otoya was not a lie. Otoya gets teary eyed and then says that he really loved Tokiya.
**ALL PARTS AFTER THIS WILL BE A SPOILER FOR THE ENDING!!** If you don’t want to be spoiled before I release the full translations by tomorrow, I think it’d be a good idea to stop here XD But if you really want to read, then, go ahead ^^
Otoya freakin’ stabs Tokiya and says that if Tokiya was going to die, it’s better that he be killed by Otoya than by anyone else. Otoya says that by doing this he’ll be able to understand Tokiya’s sins and feelings more. Otoya says that he’ll free Tokiya from this harsh reality. Tokiya says that that’s the best way to go and says that Otoya’s such a nice person. Tokiya fucking says that the wound he received from Otoya is the proof of happiness (what the hell Tokiya????)
Tokiya smiles as it seems like he’s dying and Otoya says that he’s happy to see Tokiya smiling. (WTF???!!) And then Tokiya goes on and says how it’s wonderful that the last thing he sees is Otoya’s smiling face.
Tokiya asks Otoya to promise that he’ll forget all about Tokiya. That Otoya should live and search for a new world in his place. Tokiya wishes for Otoya to find new happiness. Otoya says that he won’t forget and how this moment is the happiest moment he’s ever had. (a little twisted but, okay…)
Tokiya says that dying in Otoya’s warm hands is a happiness that nothing can ever surpass. He thanks and says that he loves Otoya (literally! He goes  「愛している」)  before he draws his last breath. Otoya says that he loves Tokiya, too. (stay calm, my heart)
Cecil then laughs maniacally and says that Otoya’s heart is now finally his. Ren runs into the scene asking if Otoya’s okay. Ren threatens the already dead Tokiya to get away from Otoya. Ren’s taken aback when he says Otoya drop a knife and to find out that Tokiya’s already dead.
Otoya says he killed the werewolf. Ren approaches Otoya and asks if he’s okay or if he’s hurt anywhere. Ren’s relieved when he finds out that Otoya’s fine and says that it’s a relief that the werewolf’s already dead. Otoya’s obviously mad and says that Ren has no right to call Tokiya evil or to accuse him of doing anything wrong.
Ren says that Tokiya killed Masato but Otoya reveals that it was him who actually killed Masato. Ren’s surprised, of course.
There’s a flashback between Masato and Otoya where they talk about how Reiji was planning to sell Otoya and the one who accepted the mission was Tokiya. Otoya’s in shock obviously. Masato then tells Otoya to kill him. When Otoya refuses to, Masato attempts to stab himself but Otoya stops him. Masato dies either way and Otoya cry-laughs(??) and begs Masato to not die.
The flashback ends and Ren doesn’t want to believe it. Cecil takes over Otoya’s body and picks up the knife and kills Ren.
Cecil does a little monologue about sins and wishes and all that.
The final scene is between Otoya and Tokiya. Otoya runs over to where Tokiya is and says that he’s there to fulfil their promise. Tokiya says that Otoya should’ve just forgotten about him and Otoya says that there’s no way he can do that. He says (guys, and this is true) that he can’t imagine a happiness where Tokiya’s not there. Tokiya takes Otoya’s hands in his and says that they’ll be starting a new life together.
Aaaaanddd, that’s how it ends.
 My thoughts on this track:
Okay, wow. I didn’t really expect that it would be this dark. That was a wild ride.
Positive personal notes about the drama tracks were:
1.)    It’s really dark and I’m a sucker for those kinds of stories.
2.)    All the Tokiya x Otoya content that we were blessed with.
3.)    TOKIOTO!!! (More like Randolph x Blood but still!!!)
4.)    “愛してる” This line is enough to kill me.
5.)     Also, a personal achievement, I figured out that Otoya’s basically a teenager (young man in the official description) and everyone else was just a little older than him lol.
That aside, overall I think it’s really good!
Positive general notes: (Unbiased thoughts this time XD)
1.)    The UtaPri writers really know how to make a good story. They utilized their theme well and made it their own unique story despite being an adaptation of a famous fairy tale. It’s really well done!
2.)    The characters were very good and even if some of them were only there for a short while, their presence was not wasted. They all had memorable lines that they said and I think that’s a great way of utilizing a character’s potential even though they’re only there for a few minutes.
3.)    Voice acting! I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed given the fact that they’re all veteran seiyuus but hearing all their emotions and projecting it was a wonderful experience. Especially during the ending scenes. Otoya’s yandere voice hnggggh.
Negative general notes:
1.)    The story’s too fast-paced. There were times when you think everything’s happening too quickly and it’s hard to try and catch-up with what’s happening. Some questions are left unanswered and Cecil still confuses me lol. Two tracks are definitely not enough. I’ll buy a whole drama CD with just this AU if need be XD
2.)    I’m a little confused about the ending. Did the two of them die and meet in the afterlife?? Did Tokiya somehow manage to be revived and Otoya went searching for him??? I personally want it to be the second one but it’s so vague.
3.)    The other characters somehow just disappear from the story. Ranmaru was made a big deal in the first track but somehow he loses significance in the second track. Cecil’s still a mystery lol. (Or maybe I just wasn’t paying close attention to him lol)
Well, in short, it’s a story of a meeting that never should’ve happened and the consequences they faced afterwards. Should they go down the forbidden road or should they go back to where they think they’ll be happy? That’s the basic premise.
I really loved it and I hope that UtaPri does more works like this. It’s refreshing and takes you away from its normal otome genre. It’s a wonderful installment to an already wonderful franchise.
And, that’s about all I have to offer for this CD. Please look forward to the complete translations ^^
P.S. if anyone’s willing to share with me the drama tracks for “Trois” and “Lost Alice”, I’d gladly do a translation for them, too ^^
