thoughts on sokka and ty lee being buddies

heyyy!!

-sokka is incredibly wary of ty lee at first. even though suki and the other kyoshi warriors say she's changed, and he knows they wouldn't lie to him, she was azula's most effective lackey. he keeps his distance, watching her, until someone attempts to assasinate aang and zuko while they're all at the fire nation palace. she risks her own life to save not only zuko, but aang as well, and he has no choice but to accept that she's a little better now.

-when ty lee offers to teach sokka how to chi block, she's taken aback by his pure excitement. he learns quickly, and though he's never great at it, he claims it's better than not knowing anything. she also learns that bad puns are the best way to soften him up.

-ty lee loves to listen to sokka infodump. in return for the chi blocking lessons, sokka offers to teach ty lee any of his skills. he's surprised when she chooses fishing. they spend hours in the wilderness outside of caldera city sitting and talking (mostly sokka) and she learns a lot more about the most aerodynamic ways to build a boat and the differences in swordplay in different regions of the earth kingdom and fire nation than she does about fishing. ty lee doesn't mind a bit, though, and sokka is grateful to have someone that'll listen to him for hours on end.

-when they aren't together, ty lee and sokka exchange lengthy and ridiculous letters. neither of them can quite remember when it started, but every second word is pun, outlandish doodles line the margins, and the letters detail the funniest stories they can remember from the time they've been apart. katara often finds sokka snickering over ty lee's letters, and starts adding footnotes to sokka's responses, telling her which part made sokka laugh the hardest.

-there's something about their friendship that makes them honest, though, and sokka and ty lee are always willing to lend a willing ear to listen to whatever is troubling the other. they deal with their struggles with humor, tears, and long hugs.

Questions for the street racing au: beyond Zukka what are the ships? Is there bending? Is it atla geography (ba sing se, fire nation etc)? Slow burn or established relationship? Does Sokka have adhd? Did you know this idea has been living rent-free in my mind since I saw it? Are Zuko and Sokka on the same or different racing teams? Is it all cars or some motorbikes? yes, there’s kataang, mailee, yueki and quite possibly jinzula!

is there bending? is it atla geography (ba sing se, fire nation etc)?

there isn’t! it’s gonna be a normal Earth au, so nope! i’m thinking about making like a shop named ba sing se or something like that :D

slow burn or established relationship?

we all know what happens when i try to write a multichaptered fic so this will probably be a one shot, i’ll make it as slow burn as i possibly can bc i am a big fan of slow burn fics 😈 the only established relationships are going to be mailee and yueki

does Sokka have adhd?

i personally know nothing about adhd, so if i’d want to write this i’m gonna have to do a ton of research bc i wouldn’t want to write it incorrectly!

do you know anything about cars?

all i know about cars is how to drive them lmao and i know the words in spanish hsdgh so i’m currently doing some research about it :D

does anyone actually know anything about cars really?

the only one with actual knowledge about cars and their mechanics is sokka lmao, katara and the rest of the racers only know how to make them go fast

what's your favourite part about your story so far?

i made a playlist right, and there’s one very specific song i haven’t been able to stop listening to in like a month, and i have a very vivid image of zuko and sokka just racing in the early hours of the morning (for fun!)
