Accidentally unlocked one of my dad's hyperfixations earlier. Neurodivergency sweep /j
#ive been reading the book 'it's not a continent' and i mentioned how wild it was that say sudan used to be an empire#that at one point ruled egypt and i had just never heard about it#which prompted to go on a very long tangent about how he noticed the way newspapers depicted ireland in the 80s#was similar to how africa was depicted#(e.g. savage impoverished constantly war-torn)#and how the stereotypes applied to irish men of being apish and stupid and violent were later applied to black men#and about how the colonial tricks used on irish people were then applied far more brutally across the rest of the empire#and by the end i just asked him 'is this what you think about most of the time'#and he said 'yeah pretty much. i realised early on that most other people weren't interested in my weird obssessions#and just wanted to talk about footaball so i usually just think about this by myself'#my brother in christ i know where i got the neurodiversity from
