Ok, so. I'm still trying to recover from the AMAZING work Ryotaro Okiayu has done giving Byakuya the best voice we could ever ask. I'm beyond grateful for his incredible work. I'm a manga reader and I know he is gonna be ok, but the tears, his pleading tone, the shaky voice... it was as if the voice actor was suffering exactly what Kubo wanted to portray in the manga... It made me cry, not that type of balling my eyes out, but the type where one single tear falls down your cheek that's painful enough for your reactions to become null. I swear to god, voice acting is such an amazing art!!
Beware of spoilers ⬇
Also, many people wanted him to die, but it wasn't fair.. his reason, his name, the squad he commands, the way he is, he had his pride shattered by people who played dirty instead of fighting with all they have such as he did. Would have been fair for him to die feeling ashamed? with the pain of knowing he couldn't protect what's precious to him? no. Have Masaki, died protecting her son, or even in One Piece, taking Ace as an example, he died protecting Luffy, so he died with a smile. Rosinante? died protecting Law, and died with a smile. Oden? died for the sake of Wano and the future, died with a smile. Roger even. I'm not saying it's fair they died, but, dying with no regrets is way more honorable than dying this way. Kubo wanted to show contrast in between how Gotei 13 is honorable and fair vs the Quincies who weren't fair at all. Yhwach tells Yamaji that same thing "you became soft and fair, and since then you had so much more things to love and protect"

Hikaru’s Q&A Event ~ A summary
She started out by saying that she can’t reply to certain questions related to Kalafina since Kalafina is not just about herself. Unfortunately lots of people felt the need to ask about Wakana and Keiko and while I understand them to a certain extent those questions were quite inappropriate. I think this was a very smart way to deal with all the Kalafina questions. She probably feels like it’s not her place to talk about Keiko’s and Wakana’s private affairs.
Now let’s get to her answers〈(•ˇ‿ˇ•)-→
Hikaru doesn’t really prefer cats or dogs, she just generally likes small animals
Hikaru doesn’t really like to put on perfume but if she does she will use Celine. Hikaru also doesn’t really like to wear a lot of accessories but recenly she bought something from the brand “ete”.
Regarding make-up: for concealer she uses “the saem”,  for her eyebrows she uses KATE, for eyeshadow she uses LUNASOL and Visee and for blush she uses ADDICTION.
Summers is her favourite comedy duo so she really loves to watch 「 Moyamoya Summers 2 」「SummersxSummers」「Uchimura Summers」
She really likes to listen to music box and bossa nova versions of various songs, she love eggs, chicken, pickled veggies, crackers/dry snacks, plums, etc; Her favourite colours are monochrome and yellow;  she really likes tough characters with different eye colours (or maybe she means that figuratively as in, she likes kinda odd characters)
For winter she really likes kelp oden and Amaria’s cheese cake
She likes honest men
Whenever they had to sing in English she would sometimes teach Wakana and Keiko how to pronounce words correctly
She would like to perform in many different countries (wherever people want her to perform)
She likes to spend Christmas with her friends and family
Her favourite voice actors are Akio Ōtsuka, Jōji Nakata and Maaya Sakamoto
Her favourite books are “Zutto, Zutto Daisuki Da Yo” (a children’s book), Little Women and Sherlock Holmes
In Bungo Stray Dogs she really likes Osamu Dazai and Saku Oda
Something she has treasured most ever since her childhood: her younger sister
Now that her hair is starting to get longer she will probably let her hair grow out some more
She would like to sing some edgy songs in the future, some rock or jazz maybe but she doesn’t want to limit herself to one possibility
Her wish to sing is as strong as ever, she would love to have “conversations” with us again through singing
French dishes she would like to eat if she ever returned to France: Galettes, Bouillabaisse, and omelette
Favourite servant in FGO are Shiki Ryougi and Gilgamesh
Mangas she recommends: Sacrifice to the King of Beasts and Azufareo no Sobayounin
Hikaru says that even though she is right-handed she usually holds her microphone with her left hand. The same applies to her shower head or her hair dryer.
The first time she had to sing in front of a big crowd she had butterlfies in her stomach
Apparently she likes to shop at ZARA so if we want to find her clothes we should try looking there [I will definitely keep that in mind]. Aside from ZARA she likes to shop at “import stores” so she doesn’t really know the brands
If she could go on a trip right now she would travel to a place where it’s warm and cosy
Regarding whether or not she is meeting up with Wa/Kei and if she knows how they are doing: Hikaru says she recently messaged them for their birthdays [obviously] and that they are certainly alive and doing well [everyone was super happy to read that]
Her favourite sushi type is white fish, salted salmon roe, tuna minced with onion, dried gourd maki, etc
When it comes to Aldnoah.Zero she can’t choose between Slaine and Inaho Kaizuka but she probably prefers Inaho Kaizuka
The first CD she bought was an album by Destiny’s Child. As for the first artist she liked, according to her mother it was “Wink”
During tours she would usually rehearse until she was happy with the result or until her throat started hurting. For her the most important part about improving her singing is to have a desire to sing in a certain way
She likes to play a mobile game called “Ganz Schön Clever” [OMG, that’s German, will have to check it out!] and Mariokart 8/Smashbrothers for Switch
When it comes to making decisions, the most important criteria for Hikaru is whether or not she can take responsibility for her choices
She likes Eevee more than Pikachu [not sure if this refers to that new game]
When you visit Toyama you should pay special attention to the sky, the air, the people, the fish, the kelp, the rice and the pears
When she goes to McDonald’s she always has to order Chicken Tatsuta if it happens to be available
Various local specialities she recommends: konbu, kamaboku, black hibiscus onigiri, sake
Her favourite Touken Danshi is Kashuu Kiyomitsu
Her favourite stationary to use is a 0.3. mechanical pencil
She likes to dress according to the occasion (like she always did during recordings). These days she likes to dress christmas-y. Lots of red and green
When she chooses clothes or interior stuff she likes to go for a simple style
She likes and recommends the song NO DOUBT by Re:vale (related to IDOLiSH7)
Her advice to a girl who worries about her relationship with her older sister because these days they tend to have different world views: Hikaru says that if she were the older sister she would like her younger sister to tell her about various different thoughts and opinions
She hopes we will soon get a chance to hear her singing voice again

I would like to request Suiriku. Choromatsu is depressed and feels like shit and Karamatsu comforts him and he breaks down too but they cry together and then hug each other just being good to each other and bonus points of what their parents think of this and if they say anything
Ahhh these poor boys…I love supportive Suiriku so much.
Warning for mentions of depression under the cut:
Choromatsu was exhausted.
He sat curled up on the couch in the living room, a blanket wrapped around him, hugging his knees to his chest. He wanted to sleep, but he knew if he tried to take a nap, he wouldn’t be able to. He’d had an impossible time trying to fall asleep the last few nights, and even though it was hard to keep his eyes open it was even harder to get them to stay shut. Even when he did sleep enough at night, he barely felt like he had come the next morning.
This has been going on for awhile now. This isn’t a good thing.
Choromatsu sighed, resting his chin on his knees. He’d been feeling like this for the past few months now, physically drained and heavy. But there was more to it than just being tired. For awhile now, a sense of sadness had enveloped him, of hopelessness. He’d always given himself a hard time for the pathetic lifestyle he led, and scolded himself for every failed job interview he went on…but this feeling now extended beyond that. He felt like a failure, and he was starting to lose any sense of faith that his life would improve.
It’s not like this is anything new…but for some reason I just feel so down about it, about life…I’ve never felt this horrible before.
There was more to it than just feeling sad and tired, he mused to himself. There was a lot he’d been dealing with, things he hadn’t mentioned to his brothers because he didn’t think they’d care…
Like the fact that he felt more irritable than ever lately, ticked off by things that had once been so menial before. He’d always been the short-tempered one among the brothers, but it had gotten to an almost unhealthy level at this point. And he was starting to lose interest in some of his hobbies. It wasn’t that he didn’t like idols or manga anymore…he still loved them. It was more like he just didn’t have the energy to invest in them anymore. He didn’t even feel like dragging himself to pachinko or to Chibita’s oden stand with the rest of his brothers. It just felt like way too much effort, when it had never been like this before.
I think…I think I have a problem.
The thought scared him, realizing something was wrong with him. But he was certain there had to be something—it wasn’t normal to feel this way, like he was sinking into a deep, dark hole that he couldn’t escape. Like there was a heavy weight pressing against his chest, forcing him down even further.
Like there was no point to his life whatsoever.
“Choromatsu?”
Choromatsu glanced up to find Karamatsu in the doorway. “Kara? I thought you went to pachinko with everyone else…”
“I decided I’d rather stay home.” Karamatsu moved over to the couch, perching on the edge of it next to Choromatsu. He was holding a cup, steam curling in thin tendrils from the top of it, and he handed it to his younger brother. “I made you some tea.”
“You did? Why did you do that…?” Choromatsu couldn’t figure out why Karamatsu would take that extra step for him. Unless he suspected something was up…
“I thought perhaps you’d appreciate it. I noticed you’ve been wrapped in that blanket all day…I thought you might be cold.” Karamatsu wasn’t even using his flashy, grandiose speech right now. His tone was completely normal for once, and he regarded Choromatsu with something like concern glinting in his eyes.
“Oh…I mean, I do. I appreciate it. Thank you.” Choromatsu blew on the tea and took a small sip, averting his gaze from Karamatsu’s and avoiding conversation as best as he could. He really didn’t feel like talking to him now, and hoped he would get the hint.
Apparently, he didn’t.
“Choromatsu…I’ve been meaning to talk to you lately,” Karamatsu began slowly, casting his gaze downward too. “I’ve, well…I’ve noticed that you haven’t seemed all that much like yourself as of late. Are you feeling alright?”
Choromatsu swallowed hard, his stomach tightening into a knot. I thought I was covering it up so carefully…how did Karamatsu of all people notice…?
“…I’m fine,” Choromatsu finally responded, after several long seconds had passed. It was a lie, but what else could he say? It was the only answer he felt comfortable providing right then.
Karamatsu frowned a little. “Are you sure, Choromatsu? Because it certainly seems like something has been…off, as far as I can tell.”
“How would you know?” Choromatsu’s voice came out sounding more testy than he’d intended. “It’s not like you can read my mind. I’m just the same as I’ve always been.”
If only.
Karamatsu drew in a deep breath, then let it out slowly. “Right…I guess I should’ve expected that sort of reaction, after springing this on you. But you really haven’t been yourself lately. I’ve noticed you’ve been more reserved than usual, and like you just aren’t enthusiastic about much lately…and that you haven’t been sleeping or eating as you used to.”
Choromatsu almost choked on his tea when he heard that. How did he know all of that?!
“But there’s more to it than that.” Karamatsu leveled Choromatsu with an intense look. “Am I correct?”
“I…” Choromatsu froze, his grip tightening on his cup. His hands were shaking by now, making the tea in the cup slosh a little. He mentally cursed himself for not trying harder to hide what he was going through.
Karamatsu waited patiently for a response, this time not letting his gaze stray from his younger brother.
Finally Choromatsu sighed, his breath trembling as he let it out. “I guess…I guess it’s hard to keep it a secret anymore. I don’t really know how to put this, but lately…I just don’t know why, but I feel so low lately, like I’m not good enough and like there’s no hope for me. And I thought it’d go away over time, but it’s only gotten worse. I can’t sleep, and even when I do I’m still so tired, and I can’t eat without feeling sick sometimes…and some days I just feel so sad and dragged-out I don’t want to get out of bed.”
There. He’d laid out the truth. It had been in a rambling mess, but at least he’d gotten it out. He felt a little better, not having the weight of his secret pressing down on him anymore, but he still felt like shit.
“Choromatsu…thank you for coming clean with me.” Karamatsu offered a small smile. “You know I hate seeing any of my dear brothers suffering…even when they don’t want to tell me they are. I’ve noticed you’ve seemed depressed for awhile, but I didn’t know if you’d want me to approach you on it.”
“I guess I don’t like talking about myself like that…do you, do you really think I might be depressed?” Choromatsu asked, trying to keep his voice steady. Saying he had depression sounded so severe.
“I think you’d need to talk to a doctor about it…but it sounds like depression to me,” Karamatsu responded, hesitating just a little, as if he knew Choromatsu wouldn’t want to hear that.
Choromatsu’s stomach lurched at the thought. Depression was so serious…could he really have that?
“How…how are you so sure?” Choromatsu finally dared to ask.
There was a stretch of almost uncomfortable silence before Karamatsu could bring himself to say anything.
“Because…I have it, too.”
Choromatsu blinked at Karamatsu, stunned. “You…you do?”
Karamatsu nodded somberly.
“But…but how…? You never said anything about…”
“Neither did you,” Karamatsu pointed out quietly. “You weren’t willing to say anything until I approached you.”
“But…but you only did that because you noticed,” Choromatsu went on, still stricken. “You mean…you mean none of us noticed you were depressed, too?” He felt awful for that.
Karamatsu seemed to sense this. “I’m a better actor than you are, Choromatsu. I was able to hide it better than you. Because…because I never wanted to give my brothers any reason to worry so much about me…” His voice trailed off.
Suddenly, tears welled up in Choromatsu’s eyes. “Karamatsu…how did you ever deal with feeling like this…? I…I can’t take this, feeling so miserable anymore…”
“It’s…it’s not easy.” Karamatsu’s voice wobbled as he spoke, and Choromatsu saw tears glistening in his eyes, too. “Not easy at all…”
“I… think I need a hug.” Choromatsu glanced at Karamatsu. “Is that okay…?”
Karamatsu didn’t even voice his response—he just opened his arms toward Choromatsu.
Choromatsu collapsed against his brother and sobbed. Karamatsu held him close, rocking him gently, crying too. Choromatsu still felt terrible, but he felt comforted and safe in his brother’s arms, and even though it wasn’t a good thing for Karamatsu to feel the same way at least he knew he wasn’t alone.
“What are we supposed to do now, Karamatsu…?” Choromatsu whispered hoarsely, sniffling. “We can’t keep living like this…I can’t live this way…it hurts…”
“I know, brother…trust me, I understand completely.” Karamatsu let out a shuddering breath. “But we’ll figure out somethingwe’ll always be there for each other. I promise you that.”
Choromatsu only nodded in response, sniffling harder.
They sat like this for a long time, crying into each other’s arms. Eventually they tired themselves out, so fatigued that they fell asleep like that, Karamatsu’s arms still wrapped around Choromatsu and Choromatsu resting his head against Karamatsu’s chest.
That was how Matsuyo and Matsuzo found them when they went to get them for dinner. Both of them took in their sons’ tear-streaked faces and exchanged a worried frown with each other.
“Why do you think they were crying?” Matsuzo asked in a hushed whisper, not wanting to startle the boys.
“I don’t know.” Matsuyo sighed as she pulled the blanket around them, tucking them in. “But I have the feeling it’s something bigger than we realized…neither of them have seemed well lately. I think we need to have a talk with them.”
“Shouldn’t we wake them for dinner and talk to them now?” Matsuzo asked.
“No…they seem so worn out by whatever happened. I’d like to let them rest for now.” Matsuyo shut out the light before she and her husband exited the room. “But if anything is wrong with my poor babies…I only hope we’ll be able to help them.”
The two were lost in thought as they left the room, leaving the two tired boys to sleep.

I COULDNT STOP THINKING ABOUT MATSUZO AND KARA THE WHOLE EP. ALSO, THE EYEBROWS, THEY HAVE THE SAME EYEBROWS????????? FINALLY KARAMATSU'S EXTRANESS IS REVEALED TO BE INHERITED FROM HIS DAD omgimexcited im sorry i want to talk to someone about today's ep and you are super nice;;; hope im not bothering you hjsdhjdas
Thank you for talking to me about today’s ep???? I’m so happy that someone else finds matsuzo and kara connection to be super adorable as heck!
Oh my god you know as soon as I saw Matsuzo’s t h i c c eyebrows I whispered to myself ‘no…’ and when he disappeared into the sun with his slick haircut to master his oden studies or whatevs I was like
Tumblr media
I’m really happy that season 2 sort of redefined matsuzo’s character. I always thought that he was the most ‘rational/sane’ character in the whole series. Literally no one else except for matsuzo questioned why the mutsugo had to quit their jobs and join an inter-galactic major league baseball series. Season 2 has been good to him man. …Maybe matsuzo himself is not too happy with the change LOL but he’s much more likeable&funny now in my opinion.
Also without going into too much detail here, I find it really interesting that Kazuhiko Inoue (Matsuzo’s voice actor) is portraying a ‘sympathetic dad/loving husband’ character. As many of you are well aware, the man… had a history of family issues. Yeah I wonder how his exes and his son (I know he cross dresses but I don’t think he identifies himself as a woman so I’ll say his son) feels about this whole situation.

Re-Watch: S1E01
**WARNING** This post will be very image heavy! Beneath the cut is a summary-analysis-ramble of episode 01 if Boueibu’s first season! It’s been two years, but even so if you want to avoid spoilers, don’t read! (More importantly, go watch it if you haven’t!)
Tumblr media
So, as I mentioned in my last post, I recently bought the blu rays of Boueibu. I was surprised at how little the quality had changed between the online version and the blu ray discs. It’s okay, though, because it came with a bunch of extras that seem to be a series of Lovingly Bullying Nishiyama. I extracted the subs from the version I had and muxed them to the blu ray files I ripped because even though I’ve studied Japanese for over four years, I’m noooowhere near fluent, although I do often get nitpicky with subs, hah.
Anyway! Let’s roll right into it!
When I watched the first episode of Boueibu, it was during a stressful time in my life. I’d also been watching a lot of darker/plot-heavy shows, so as you might imagine this was like a breath of fresh air!
I mean, the OP is bright and adorable and uplifting!
Tumblr media
Just look how relaxed.
Tumblr media
The episode starts off with its (in)famous analysis of chikuwabu. Because I was watching with a friend, I didn’t have time to look up what the hell chikuwabu even was, but I at least obviously got the sense that it was some type of food.
I love En and Atsushi’s dialogue here. It does a really nice job of establishing them as characters and the friendship that they share. En is vague, philosophical and a little teasing (as seen above) and Atsushi, although he questions why the meaning of chikuwabu is so important to En, seems to have a deep understanding of his weirdo friend and even participates in the analysis a little.
Tumblr media
In the middle of their chat, Goura is seen chopping wood, although we later learn that the bath house doesn’t actually use the wood Goura chops. Poor Goura, forever destined to be chikuwabu. I do like how, although the creators realized Goura’s wood chopping actually had no use, they later had Atsushi point out the futility of it, basically making fun of themselves for the mistake.
Tumblr media
That is an incredibly calm reaction for two people seeing AN ALIEN DROP OUT OF A PORTAL.
Tumblr media
Don’t talk to strangers who mysteriously drop into the bath. Don’t do it.
Tumblr media
He answered him! But I do like how straightforward Atsushi is here. Sure, a thing fell out of a magical portal and into the bath, but he answers Wombat’s questions with only a little hesitation, as if it isn’t all that weird at all.
Of course, when they see what they’re actually talking to, they rightfully get a little freaked out.
Tumblr media
I mean. I’d be pretty uneasy myself.
Tumblr media
Atsushi’s pretty good at tripping and dragging En down with him, isn’t he?
Tumblr media
As they’re struggling in the bath, Yumoto comes in. This is his introduction, and so the first thing he does is chastise En and Atsushi for splashing in the bath. The second thing he does is scream "WOMBAT!" and jumps right into the bath to get a hold of him so he can cuddle him. The third years, being the type of people who dump difficult situations onto others, hightail it the hell out of there.
Tumblr media
It didn't bother me the first time I watched it because I was completely lost about WHAT THE HELL WAS HAPPENING, but on a re-watch I find it kind of odd they don't know Yumoto that well. Later, we see that they both vaguely recognized the Monster-of-the-Week, but they're unsure of Yumoto's name even though they've been going to the bath house for at least a year. You’d think they’d know for sure!
Tumblr media
I love this scene of the Student Council leaving school and passing En and Atsushi. I can admit that I'm not very good at picking out foreshadowing or other literary devices, but somehow I'd pieced together most of the puzzle of Kinshirou's past because of this scene coupled with the ED. I know it's probably obvious by the time you get to episode 3 or 4, I'm even so I'm still kind of proud of myself!
Atsushi tries to make lighthearted conversation and Kinshirou immediately shuts him down. Even though Kinshirou has ignored him since middle school, Atsushi still makes an effort to talk to him and repair their friendship. On my first watch, I’d gotten the feeling from the scene that Kinshirou was angry at Atsushi because he’d become better friends with En as the ED was playing. Obviously, I had no idea how that had come to be, and I wasn’t really all that far off. But damn.
After the Student Council passes, the conversation drifts back to food as Yumoto harasses Wombat. En calls them the golden trio of daikon radish, egg and mochi-stuffed tofu in oden terms. Atsushi then makes a comment about how konjac isn't included, and although I could make an effort to analyze this, I really love crazy-grrrl-on-the-computer ‘s analysis which you can read here.
Tumblr media
No analysis here; I just appreciate how beautiful the lighting is.
Tumblr media
The OP is so lighthearted.
Tumblr media
I can't.
When I watch TV shows or anime or what have you, I actually don't care much about the plot. What I care about most is the interaction between characters -- how they grow or change throughout a show. I'm a little sad that Ryuu and Io don't get as much screen time as En, Atsushi and Yumoto because there was so much potential there!
I think Boueibu is written in a way that even though it might be shallow sometimes, if you look hard enough you can see something much deeper. That’s just how a lot of Japanese media is written. It’s your job, as the audience, to understand the meaning of what the show is trying to tell you. Subtly is important in Japanese language and culture, so storytelling is no different. Even so, Ryuu and Io seemed to get pushed to the side a lot in favor of the other three. At least we have the novels and some other materials to get a sense of Ryuu and Io. For example, knowing that Io lives alone and that Ryuu was raised by his grandmother puts them in a different light than one-note characters who are "money-obsessed" or "girl-crazy."
Tumblr media
5 ordinary high school boys who use Love Making for the sake of the world!
With the number of times the voice actors and stage play actors make jokes about their transformation phrase, you just KNOW it was chosen on purpose.
Tumblr media
Even though I had no idea what chikuwabu was on my first viewing, I did at least make the connection here. When he started his speech about how there were three categories for people, I thought it was going to turn into one of those "lol you can't count" jokes. But, by the end of it, my heart actually hurt for him!
If you do believe that En and Atsushi's discussion about the point of chikuwabu is a parallel to the ordinary people who don't stand out or feel they're not special, it really is a pretty sad situation for Kazutake.
He may just have a minute or two of screen time, but during that time we're shown how people ignore him, to the point where a student bumps into him and doesn't even apologize because he doesn't recognize it was a student he'd plowed over.
Tumblr media
After seeing this sign, I felt incredibly silly wondering what class En and Atsushi were in when it straight up showed it here. I knew they were third years, but I’d always wondered which class they were in specifically, especially since they didn’t share class with Ibushi or Kinshirou.
Tumblr media
En trying to take a nap and Atsushi being attentive even when it's not necessary. This is another thing I like about Boueibu -- there are a lot of background events that cement characters' traits or expand upon them. Sometimes they're just funny, too.
Tumblr media
Again, HOW ARE THEY SO CALM? Their teacher walks in carrying the space wombat from yesterday and this is their expression?!
Tumblr media
I know I just praised the series for inserting cute/meaningful background events, but all you people with sweaters, where did you come from?! None of you were here when it panned out before! Maybe they were taking advantage of the break. As an aside, I love how it's Atsushi who has aisatsu duty.
Tumblr media
After class, En and Atsushi make an effort to leave but are interrupted by Tawarayama being possessed by Wombat. Instead of horrified, they just look mildly annoyed that the pink wombat won't leave them alone.
Tumblr media
As they're running away, they make funny comments about why they don't want anything to do with Wombat or saving the world. En displays his hyper-observant skills when he notes that Tawarayama is going to turn 77 this year. It’s a weird, but astute observation.
Tumblr media
While Atsushi's excuse is that saving the world is too much responsibility, En flat out admits he'd rather contemplate on the meaning of chikuwabu and its place in the world. If it were any other character, it'd probably be a lie just to get out of responsibilities, but chikuwabu has apparently been on En's mind for "a while." He’s 100% serious and it’s hilarious.
Tumblr media
Yumoto dashes onto the scene once again, more or less saving the third years from the responsibility of saving the world. I think it's interesting to note that although En and Atsushi dash past Kazutake in their efforts to avoid Wombat, they don't actually knock him down. They may not have much interest in people who don't concern them, but at least they're kinder than the random student who bowled Kazutake down earlier. Of course, Yumoto, Tawarayama and Wombat do knock Kazutake over, but...
Tumblr media
Again, it's a nice contrast to what we were presented with earlier. Atsushi may have a mean streak when it comes to En (although I think he just feels comfortable talking to En without a filter), but he's the only one who took direct notice of Kazutake and called out to him to see if he was okay.
Tumblr media
On a first watch, you might think that En and Atsushi are discussing Yumoto and Wombat, but I think it's more likely they're talking about Ryuu and Io here. Although it's been a year or so, Ryuu and Io are as opposite as night and day.
Tumblr media
Calm, goal-oriented Io and his obsession with money. He speaks with a politeness that is unusual when speaking in the company of friends who are the same age. It does make sense when he's speaking to En and Atsushi as he's their kouhai, but he speaks the same way to Ryuu and Yumoto. Speaking in such an overly polite way is an excellent way to build a wall around yourself, ensuring you're less likely to be hurt. He’s walled himself off so much they he lives alone, completely isolated except for his computers and the stock market.
Tumblr media
Energetic, girl-crazy Ryuu. I feel like Ryuu tends to get the short end of the stick, whether it’s his short transformations or how often he tends to just be “there” in the background, not really contributing anything (like chikuwabu). I mentioned earlier that Ryuu was raised by his grandmother, and so I can only imagine how much of a handful he was to her.
Tumblr media
Seeing the club registration form made me laugh and I remembered that when they did eventually submit it, Atsushi was named as its president. Definitely fitting, because even though Yumoto is literally the heart of their group, I kind of feel that without Atsushi around, things will fall apart. He’s lazy, although not to the extent of En, but he has that motherly, wifely vibe about him that keeps things running smoothly. Sadly, Atsushi revoked his presidency when he found out about it. At least the Student Council was nice enough to provide the form instead of making them go get it themselves.
Tumblr media
There I was, enjoying my cute, casual anime AND THEN IT KIND OF GOT DARK? I was genuinely surprised at how the tone of the show quickly grew so dark, albeit it was a brief shift.
Tumblr media
Wombat forces the five of them to wear the Battle Lover bracelets, almost as if it’s a punishment. He claims they’re full of love (and they are, just not for... normal things), but is it really the same when you’re forcing someone to be full of love? It really is kind of creepy the way the “power of love” overtakes them, forcing them to say certain things and make humiliating poses. Granted, it seems like it’s the love that’s “inside” them, such as En’s love of freedom and Io’s love of money, that makes them do these things but still.
Tumblr media
As with any magical girl/magical boy anime, the thing a lot of people look forward to is the transformation sequence! And I was not disappointed.

Although some of their backgrounds when they do their final pose reminds me of AOL icons, the fact that it’s a parody of Sailor Moon and similar anime really shines through here. En may be my favorite character, but nothing beats Io’s rainbow crotch transformation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since the anime doesn’t take itself seriously, neither do the characters. The Battle Lovers are torn between horror and pleasant surprise when they see their outfits and are understandably a little upset when they won’t come off.
Tumblr media
They blow off some steam when they realize they can shoot magic beams out of their Love Sticks, which they dub with the most ridiculous names. Wombat chastises them for not taking their jobs seriously, but what did he expect when he forced them to become the Battle Lovers?
Tumblr media
After a short kerfuffle, they win, but the chikuwabu monster won’t accept defeat. So Yumoto punches him right in the face, leaving the others to wonder what the point of all their flashy moves were if Yumoto was just going to resort to such violence.
Tumblr media
After a pleasant Love Shower, En and Atsushi recognize Kazutake as a boy from the class one room away and Yumoto passes out bath house coupons.
Tumblr media
The fact that he gave one to Kazutake warms my heart. Even though Yumoto is a cloudcuckoolander, he has a deep love for all things and all people. Kazutake just threatened to kill them more or less, but Yumoto easily forgives him and even welcomes him to go to the Kurotama Bath House -- and there’s no reason for the Battle Lovers to believe that Kazutake did those things against his will.
Tumblr media
With the battle won, the Battle Lovers head off to the bath house to refresh their weary souls, although I’m not sure they smell too much of broth as Ryuu claims. After all, most of them didn’t really do anything except for Yumoto. They’re all so lazy.......
Tumblr media
I don’t know why I was surprised to see that the Student Council was behind Kazutake turning into a monster. Those boots are ridiculous, but the rest of their outfits are very nice. I especially love how Ibushi and Akoya are smiling pleasantly while Kinshirou is having none of that. If it weren’t for Ibushi and Akoya, who knows how much worse off Kinshirou would have been?
* * *
That’s it for episode 1! I think it’s a nice, fun-loving way to introduce the characters and the Battle Lovers. It sets up a lot of things, like using En’s chikuwabu speech to set up the monster of the week, but also hinting the Conquest Club’s ultimate goal.
Tumblr media
I really love this series and I can’t wait to re-watch the other episodes! Episode 8 is my favorite for obvious reasons. Let me know if you liked it, or post your own thoughts! I pretty much devour any talk I see about Boueibu and I love to see it as a topic of discussion.
Let’s get pumped for the OVA! A graduation of love and youth!!

A Present for You from the Eleven
We reach the long-awaited final stage of battle. Joined by the new addition of Tove from the dinosaur era, Tenma and his friends now travel to the story of King Arthur to gather the strongest eleven of all time! Let’s support all of them for working hard by means of Valentine chocolate! Prepare your chocolate as a present for representatives Tenma and Ranmaru ♡. Two popular representatives from Inazuma Legend Japan are also making an appearance. Valentine Talk with cast members Nishigaki-san and Tano-san is a must-see!
Great man x Eleven = Ikemen*?! There are a lot of mixi max but the coolest ones are as follows ♡ Tsurugi and Okita and definitely an ikemen
Kirino and Jeanne - Though these features would appear to suit female characters, Kirino is a twin-tailed mega-nekko**
Taiyou and Koumei By means of mixi maxing with a girl, Taoyou’s beauty has severely increased.
Nishiki and Sakamoto Ryouma Thank goodness he didn’t become chubby! Nishiki’s mixi max; his bangs and waves have made him more handsome.
*Ikemen: pretty/attractive/cool boy **meganekko: wears glasses
Ranmaru Kirino Voice actor: Yuu Kobayashi Now that he can mixi max with Jeanne and has obtained a keshin, Kirino has grown a lot. A reliable member of the chosen eleven and seems to be polishing his skills as a defender.
Tenma Matsukaze Voice Actor: Yuka Terasaki While looking at Shindou and Taiyou, Tenma’s starting to wonder if he’s an appropriate captain. In King Arthur’s world, he fights directly against Shindou…
I want to give chocolate from my heart! Kirino ♡ If you said it to him in person he’d probably get angry but one of Kirino’s most attractive points is certainly his loveliness. His keshin and mixi max are beautiful too and we’re touched emotionally by his handsome, hidden fighting spirit.
I want to give chocolate from my heart! Tenma ♡ Even in the parallel world where soccer is lost, Tenma - along with Fei, does his best. His ‘never-give-up’ heart cheers you up!
Ichirouta Kazemaru Voice Actor: Yuka Nishigaki Currently plays for Japan in the pro leagues. Due to his gentle personality, he’s just as popular as Fubuki. In the movie, along with Endou and Kabeyama, he plays the role of a protective senpai for Tenma and Kirino!
Jirou Sakuma Voice actor: Megumi Tano Working as the coach for Teikoku Gakuen, Sakuma is fighting against Fifth Sector as one of the members of the Resistance. Now that soccer has disappeared, is he protecting Teikoku?
Throughout the Chrono Stone series, Kazemaru and Sakuma are…? Q How do you think they’re spending this time? Nishigaki: I think he might be taking action in a place we haven’t seen, like in last year’s movie where he was working with Endou. I wonder is everyone working behind the scenes with commander Kidou. Tano: I think Sakuma won’t work unless Kidou says. On the contrary, if Kidou gives a command, he’ll do it immediately. If Kidou asks for 1, Sakuma will give 10.
What if both of them were brainwashed?
Nishigaki: Since he’s playing in the pro leagues, if soccer disappeared he’d lose his job. I wonder what kind of job he’d do… Because he loves soccer so much, I’d worry… Tano: As for Sakuma… Actually, even if soccer disappeared I get the feeling he’d survive (laughs). He’d probably make a job out of being a model or something.
Nishigaki: The most natural thing for Kazemaru to do would probably be track and field. But he’ll definitely want to fight for the sake of soccer.
Dream of your Inazuma Valentine! Talking with the girl cast!!
Tano-san and Nishigaki-san who play Sakuma and Kazemaru talk to us about how the guys spend their Valentine’s Day.
If Tano-san gave chocolate…? Honmei*: Genda! Giri choco**: Kabeyama, Shourinji, Kurimatsu, Domon, Someoka
*Chocolate give to a boy on Valentine’s day out of genuine sentiment *Obligatory-gift chocolate
Dream of Sakuma’s confession ♡ “Take your time. Think about it and decide.” I think Sakuma would call the person he likes and tell them how he feels. I get the feeling that he would just be straightforward and say ‘I like you,’ honestly and earnestly, without using overly romantic talk. But you wouldn’t have to answer straightaway. I feel like he’d say something like, “Take your time. Think about it and let me know.” It’s not really that modern, is it? He’s old-fashioned but isn’t that type of confession more sincere? I think he definitely wouldn’t confess by text message. (Tano)
What Tano-san thinks of Sakuma’s handmade gyakuchoco (chocolate given by a boy to a girl) Sakuma’s handmade chocolate would be 100% penguin. (laughs) He’d search for penguin molds (probably in a cookery shop in Tokyo) and when done, he’d line them up numbers 1, 2, 3 etc… But since it would be a waste to give them to someone he’d probably just eat them all by himself (laughs).
If Nishigaki-san gave chocolate…? Honmei choco: Kazemaru (for moral support!) Giri choco: Kidou
Dream of Kazemaru’s confession ♡ “Wait, I should be the one to confess…” Kazemaru’s confession would be basically the same as what Tano-san thought for Sakuma. He wouldn’t confess in an indirect way like over the phone or by text - I think he’s the type to confess directly. He doesn’t usually seem too experienced with girls and I wonder if that’s changed since becoming an adult, but I think he definitely believes: “The guy should be the one to confess.” So if he was confessed to first, he would say: “Wait, I should be the one to confess to you!” (Nishigaki)
What Nishigaki-san thinks of Kazemaru’s handmade gyakuchoco: Since Kazemaru’s the kid who asked the managers for the recipe for oden (type of Japanese dish), I think he doesn’t lack cooking skills, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’d be able to make professional-like chocolate ike Kidou… He’d make the usual chocolate. Like truffle or something. I feel like he wouldn’t show off anything unconventional. He’d make ordinary chocolate that you could tell was homemade.
Q In the movie we saw them playing soccer for the first time in a while - how was it? Tano: It was pretty amazing~ Nishigaki: When they played soccer, everyone looked like they were enjoying themselves. Since I definitely prefer to see them having fun playing soccer than worrying about everything, watching them was great. Tano: Even though their opponents are middleschool kids, they definitely won’t go easy on each other (laughs). But it’s good that they don’t.
Q Kabeyama, Kazemaru and Sakuma all unleashed a special move together! Nishigaki: 2 out of 3 are the same person. (laughs) Tano: Actually, in the TV series Sakuma and Kabeyama have never spoken to each other, so I was surprised. Nishigaki: They both probably think “We sound alike, huh.” (laughs) Q It was surprising how full of wildlife it was. Tano: They practiced it without us knowing. How did they work it out? Someone probably took the lead in deciding to do this move. I wonder who came up with the name Jungle… It’s full of nature, isn’t it?
Q Speaking of that, in last year’s movie, Kazemaru and Kabeyama survived in the jungle. Nishigaki: Ah, then Kazemaru was definitely the one who came up with “Jungle yarou ze!” (laughs) Since he’s playing in the Pros, the time he was doing special training in different parts of the world, like jungles…?
Q Tell us about any scenes in the movie that left an impression on you. Nishigaki: Definitely the scene where we became a barrier to protect the kids and told them to escape. You can really feel that everyone had become an adult. Tano: The part where Endou looks over his shoulder and smiles, he’s a really dependable guy!
Q How do you feel about the current TV series? Nishigaki: I was surprised! Tano: A bear? Daisuke-san turned into a rock? I was surprised. Nishigaki: On top of that, soccer is banned. It’s an anime about soccer, and they can’t play soccer… Tano: I want to see the kids in GO one day just play soccer without having to worry about anything. They’ve gone through a lot.
Q How do Kazemaru and Sakuma feel about Valentine’s Day? Nishigaki: I think he’d be a little intrigued. He’s not the type to be ‘cool’ - I think he’s just a regular kid. He might be a bit nervous but he wouldn’t let it show. Tano: I think Sakuma wouldn’t know a lot about it at all. (laughs) Like, “Oh, it’s that day?”. But he’d get a lot of chocolate. Nishigaki: As expected, he’s handsome (laughs)
Q Please leave a message for everyone! Tano: Sakuma is waiting for your Valentine chocolate! (laughs) I’m also looking forward in anticipation to what will happen next in the story. I think that Sakuma will continue to act behind the scenes, so please support him. Nishigaki: Since I still have the pressing image of everyone raising their eyebrows, I pray that I can hurry up and see the day they play soccer like normal middleschool kids. Everyone, please support Tenma and co! And Kazemaru and co. who’ve become adults since they’re doing their best behind the scenes for the sake of the kids. Oh, and Kazemaru is waiting for your chocolate. (laughs)
The person who would receive the most chocolate is… Fubuki and Shindou!? Nishigaki: While they were on the trip he was popular with girls, so probably Fubuki Tano: Doesn’t it seem like Tsunami would receive some? Fubuki would receive a lot of honmei choco that girls put a lot of effort into, and Tsunami would receive a lot of giri-choco. Even if you gave it to him without making a big deal (Fubuki), he’d probably accept it happily with an Oh! Thank you! He might even receive some chocolate from other boys yearning after him! (laughs) The person who would be happiest to receive chocolate would be Kabeyama-kun, right? Tano: If Kabeyama received just one box of chocolates, he would so happy. Nishigaki: He’d thank you with all of his heart! Tano: And he’d tell Kurimatsu (laughs) Nishigaki: In GO I think it would be Shindou, right? He’s cool, calm and from a wealthy family; he gives off a prince-like vibe, so wouldn’t he be popular? Tsurugi’s too scary to give chocolate to (laughs) Tano: Tsurugi definitely gives off a ‘Don’t come near’ me vibe. Wouldn’t you have to call on Tenma or someone and ask them to pass on your chocolate?
Those most looking forward to Valentine’s Day are… Kabeyama, Kurimatsu, Shishido and Shourinji?! Nishigaki: Kabeyama, Kurimatsu, Shourinji and Shishido are looking forward to it as a set. Tano: But after not receiving any “But we waited all day!” Nishigaki: Handa might be looking forward to it too, right…? Tano: He’s kind of handsome, I guess (laughs) Nishigaki: I think he’d receive a lot of giri-choco. Mixed in with some honmei choco, but he wouldn’t noticed. It would be funny if Gouenji was looking forward to it, but he has a little sister. Tano: Along with Kidou, they probably think they’ll receive chocolate from Yuka and Haruna. Nishigaki: Then react with “Who on earth could have made this~?” (laughs) In GO there are so many ikemen I bet they’d all receive some. Because of that, they’d look forward to it. Tano: Ah, Minamisawa-senpai seems popular, so I think he looks forward to it.
(Guessing how the InaIre guys would make gyakuchoco)
Endou: I think Endou would definitely aim to make soccer ball-shaped chocolate but in the end it wouldn’t really look like anything… (Tano)
Gouenji: Like the bear present he bought for Yuka-chan. You’d know straight away who the chocolate is for (Nishigaki)
Kidou: It seems like Kidou-san would make chocolate that looks professional enough to be sold in a shop! (Tano)
Kabeyama: Because he’d make something he’d want to eat himself, there’d be a lot. I worry for the person receiving them… (laughs) (Tano)
Tsunami: He’s good at cooking fish, but chocolate…? It would look like a surfboard with 273 written on it. (Nishigaki) It seems like he’d say, “There’s no chocolate I can’t make!” (laughs) “No problem!” The kitchen would be covered with chocolate. (Tano)
Hiroto: I get the feeling that Hiroto is not too great at cooking. But he seems like the type to care more about appearance than taste? (Nishigaki)
I feel like he’d make something shaped like a flower. Like a rose or something. It seems like he’d make something that when he hands it over to a girl and she opens it it makes a big impact. (Tano)
Fubuki: It seems like he’d make winter crystal-shaped chocolate. And since he’s from Hokkaido, I have an idea that he’d make white chocolate. (Tano)
Ichinose: Definitely American-style, right? Nougat-y and sweeeet~ (Tano)
Raimon First Years: I feel like Kageno would make really bitter chocolate. Since Max is skilled, it seems like he could make something like colourful marble chocolate. (Tano)
Since Max is skilled, he could make something in the shape of his hat. Shishido seems like he’d make cute chocolate too. (Nishigaki)
As for Tenma and co….?
Nishigaki: I think Shindou is good at cooking. Seems like he’d make something where both the chocolate and the package it’s in would look like something you’d buy. Tenma seems like he wouldn’t be great (laughs)
Tano: Wouldn’t he gather everyone together and ask: What should I do??
Nishigaki: Finally he’d go to Shindou in a last-minute rush and ask, “Shindou-senpai! How do I get it right?”
Tano: Tenma would make chocolate using whipped cream. Like his hair. (laughs)
Nishigaki: Tsurugi would definitely make sword-shaped chocolate, right? Shinsuke would make God Hand-shaped chocolate or something.
Also: Kirino: Since he looks like a girl you’d think he’d be good at cooking, but since he’s actually quite masculine he’s probably worse than you think.
Fei: Since the chocolate he’d make would be from the future it would be quite futuristic and mysterious. It would be colourful, emerald or turquoise, and possibly glow, with zero calories?!
Kariya: Since eating with his fingers is a nuisance, he’d probably decide on chocolate balls…?
The person with the most romantic confession is… Shindou!? Nishigaki: Since they have many love-rivals, if girls don’t push forward with all their strength, they can’t win. I think there would be girls who think “I have to give him my handmade chocolate in person!” They’d go directly to his house, or call him to the riverbank or something. Tano: I feel like it wouldn’t be strange for Shindou to give a romantic speech to his partner. Nishigaki: The two would stand together and flowers would blow in the background without it feeling out of place. (laughs)
The person with the most passionate confession is… Hiroto!? Tano: I think it’s Hiroto. Nishigaki: Because he seems used to knowing how to treat girls. He rides in a sports car, and he’s a glasses-wearing young CEO. Tano: Even though Midorikawa is always nearby standing guard over him (laughs) Nishigaki: (laughs) I think he’d be able to do it smoothly, without hesitating. He’d set the scene in a pretty place where you could see the night sky, kneel down in front of his partner and hand over flowers… or something. But because his big sister is very important, I doubt he’d get married. Because he’d definitely be looking after the orphanage kids, a little bit like a father.
Leave the delicious chocolate to Kabeyama! The person who knows delicious chocolate, is definitely Kabeyama, right? Tano: When Kabeyama becomes an adult, he definitely goes tabearuki (eating and walking at the same time, like a tour). Like, to all of the cake shops. He has his own column in soccer magazines about ‘This month’s recommended chocolate,’ Nishigaki: When he recommends something, sales go up! Tano: Kabeyama, who travels the world to eat. Nishigaki: It’s no problem to leave it to Kabeyama, even Kidou acknowledges his superiority, make no mistake. ___________

Wednesday, 4th of january 2006
I wore a suit and coat when I left home this morning. Today was the first day of work in 2006, and I needed to attend the annual New Year's meeting at the main office in Marunouchi.
It was cold outside. The cold weather narrows a person's field of vision as though he was driving high-speed down the highway. It forces us into a sort of tunnel-vision. I only focused on things immediately in front of me while I walked. It must have been too cold even to walk a dog, because I didn't see anyone with a pet.
My senses were so numb... I couldn't feel a thing. My gloves prevented me from feeling anything I touched. I couldn't smell anything because my nose hurt when I inhaled. Only my breath, hanging white and soft on the air, had warmth.
I headed to the station in my senseless state. I boarded an empty train and then detrained at a deserted terminal station. My body had warmed a little while aboard. I passed through the ticket gate and made my way to the transfer line.
I saw the usual staff of Hot Pepper solicitors. They still wore the same thin, red uniforms. They were so cold while waiting for the shift to start. They huddled into themselves shivering. I noticed that more staff members seemed present than before... I noticed more female staff members, too. Perhaps it was because of the new year.
I passed them and descended the stairs to the Hibiya Line. Warm air composed of body heat and odors rose from the lower floor. Even such a stuffy, uncomfortable atmosphere as that felt welcome today.
My eyes caught sight of an old woman who sat on the floor at the bottom of the stairs. Her appearance suggested that she was a homeless bag lady. Her bare feet stuck out in front of her, and she drew in a sketchbook. She faced an advertisement board propped on the ticket gate.
I moved closer to her. I realized that she was drawing a woman from the ticket-gate ad with a crayon. She drew quite speedily, and her concentration was pretty serious too.
Dozens of crayons littered the floor around her.
She drew one of the characters from an advertisement for a historically based theatrical play. She wasn't drawing the lead actor though. She focused her attention on one of the supporting actors to the left of the lead. She had drawn a pretty good picture too. It seemed like she had invested more energy in the picture than someone might invest in a simple sketch or a casual drawing. The image resembled a portrait drawn by a sidewalk artist. A variety of colored lines described the actress's lively figure.
I don't recall the actress's name, but the old woman had rendered her into a stylish caricature. The drawing actually conveyed more elegance than the original model had.
That old woman was more than just an average person.
I had encountered her just after 7 A.M., and she was trying to finish her picture before the start of rush-hour. She drew such soft lines suggesting the reflection of old age, and yet her hands worked with the speed of youth.
Her dignified style and technique intrigued me. She had converted the subway station into her own personal studio. No one could disturb her regal presence. She continued drawing undisturbed. I sensed something like an aura around her.
I wasn't able to speak with her, so I simply pressed through the ticket gate and jumped onboard the train.
A thought struck me on the train: what will she do with her picture? Will she sell it? Was that how she makes her living, or was it only a hobby?
Now that I think about it, I stopped drawing when I started working for a professional company. I had really loved drawing too. I met a lot of designers who had earned fine arts degrees from their respective universities when I joined the company. I just remembered this morning that I haven't drawn since that time.
I had put The Strokes' new album (First Impressions of Earth) into my iPod before I'd left for work. My iPod's selector surprised me while I made my way to the office. HIDECHAN Radio had snuck onboard! My iPod must have updated the contents when I had downloaded a HIDECHAN show at home as a test.
It's so embarrassing to listen to myself from an objective vantage point. I don't always speak Japanese correctly, and I mispronounce a lot of things. Yumi-chan helped me to sound decent, but I'm really a layman. I could read HIDEOBLOG calmly, but I can't really listen to HIDECHAN Radio as though it was someone else's work.
At lunch time I bought Kiyoshi Shigematsu's novel Twilight and Graham Greene's novel The Heart of the Matter. I considered buying Lily Franky's novel Tokyo Tower when I saw a large POP advertisement claiming that the novel had deeply touched 900,000 readers. However, at the time I thought, "Am I really in a rush to get this?" I missed my chance to get it because of that.
What has changed my mind now? I want to buy it because Mr. Lily Franky's interview in the New Year's paper really impressed me. I wonder though... was I impressed because he and I belong to the same generation?
Afterwards I turned on the television and saw the anime series based on Franky's first picture book: Oden-kun.
I won't go so far as to say that I believe that the world moves by coincidences that border on supernatural guidance, as in the Repairman Jack novels. However, I strongly believe that nothing in our world happens because of mere coincidence. As I saw Oden-kun, I thought that I absolutely had to read Lily Franky's Tokyo Tower. I'll probably get it the next time I'm in a smaller bookstore.
I realized that both Lily Franky and Kiyoshi Shigematsu were born in 1963. Old guys really are creating their best work these days, especially those from 1963.
I feel that I need to work more quickly when I think about time passing. I should set aside more time to work creatively. My remaining years aren't infinite. We really feel the fact of our mortality after we turn forty years old.
How much time can I allot to creative work? The old lady who I saw this morning had given herself time to create. We can draw a picture anywhere if we really want to... our age and circumstances regardless. We can even draw a picture in the subway station just before morning rush hour.
I headed back to Roppongi after I had attended the New Year's meeting at the main office. I waited on the Kasumigaseki station's train platform... and I felt someone's intense gaze fall upon me from somewhere. I looked up. A man approached me, staring me intently in the face.
"Is he one of our gamers?"
I prepared myself according to my intuition. He passed by at first, and then he turned around to address me. "Are you Director Hideo Kojima?"
He seemed to have spent all of his courage on those words alone. He was a fan after all... it looked like I had been correct.
"Yes, I am." I moved toward him to intercept the expected handshake.
"Do you remember me?" He narrowed his eyes. "I'm Johnny."
"Johnny!?" The man looked Japanese, and he spoke Japanese too. Johnny... Johnny Ookura? Or is it... could he be that Johnny? Johnny Sasaki!?
"All the first-born sons in my family are called Johnny. My dad's a Johnny, and my son's son will probably be a Johnny, too. A whole clan of Johnnies!"
I remembered him then. He didn't have a stranger's face after all. I knew that his voice had sounded familiar. It was Naoki Imamura, the Japanese voice actor behind the legendary token MGS character, Johnny Sasaki!
That was a wonderful chance meeting. He was heading to Roppongi also, so we took the same train together. We talked a lot about MGS3. Johnny has appeared in MGS1, MGS2, and MGS3. We naturally expect him to appear in MGS4... at least for now.
I was talking about MGS4 when the train arrived at Roppongi Station. Mr. Imamura and I shook hands in front of the Hills and parted ways.
"Nothing in our world is mere coincidence."
Even the old lady who I saw this morning had a critical influence upon me. She reminded me how wonderful drawing pictures can be.
I'll definitely work with Mr. Imamura one day in the future, too. Johnny Sasaki shall return!
I can see how everything relates to everything else when I think that nothing is merely coincidental. If everything that happens is inevitable, then the world is connected and whole.
