(Warning this is super long I'm so sorry) Absolutely mcfreaking reeling from that charged backfist of a chapter. I have no words. Yang what. What is wrong with you. He really slaughtered five schools' worth of students and masters, killed his adoptive father, orchestrated the murder of his little sister, secretly went back and raised said little sister from the dead, decided to let her wake up ALONE IN A POOL OF HER OWN BLOOD SURROUNDED BY THE BODIES OF HER FAMILY, left her to fend for herself at the ripe age of 11, and then fucked off to the mountains to be a super-doctor. BROTHER. Like yes Yang, it was really cold of Sifu to not let you save your family with the talisman, and your feelings of heartbreak and betrayal are absolutely valid (I would even excuse the attempted theft of the talisman honestly, he was just trying to save them!) especially when he saw you as a son, BUT HOLY SHIT YOUR RESPONSE WAS TO BECOME A MASS-MURDERER! Yin and all those disciples didn't know anything about the talismans, you could have just killed the masters in a slightly less public way and have been basically fine! Jinfeng literally has Infinite Money Glitch: The Talisman, you guys can pay off anyone! I'm so flabbergasted at Yang I can't even express it fully. How do we come back from this bro 😭 I know Fajar actually did kill Yin and now they're besties, but Yang literally left her in a wuguan full of bodies!!!! She could've died or gone insane and Yang just allowed it! How tf was she supposed to turn away from vengeance when that's literally all you left her with! And the fact that she managed to do that anyway and you're just???? Punishing her for it in every way besides physically attacking her????
You know what? I'm gonna go fight Yang a bunch until I get an achievement or something, he deserves it!
Hehehehehehhh XDDD This was me while reading through your message lmaooo:
Tumblr media
That said, I think you're probably the first person I've seen who's gotten this angry at Yang (aside from a few other characters in the fic)! 😂 Game-wise, him reviving Yin in the prologue made the most sense to me out of all the other theories (not that there are a lot imo), and it also works with the implications of the post-credits scene, so I was more than ready to add it to the fic with maximum angst! XDD
Of course, this all means Yang is an even bigger douche than before 😅 There were a million other ways he could've gone about stealing the talismans without ruining Yin's life, but ah well, I had to stick to that part of canon for this fic 😂 I personally think he didn't have this mindset eight years ago; like, how much of his current thinking is actually him and how much is part of the talisman's influence? But even then, it was still a horrible move to make, especially where Yin was concerned (hence why I came up with the Dawn!AU where she lives! hehe). And his entire arc overall was one of my struggling points while writing, because how DO you come back from this? How do you have the happy ending with all the fluffy rainbow and unicorn feels?? Would a happy ending for this even be happy for Yin and Yang's relationship after all he's done to her? So that was quite interesting and tricky to work with XDD
All in all, I'm happy you enjoyed this chapter!! Though I'm sorry it got you worked up loll 😅 Hopefully beating Yang to a pulp helps! 😁 And no worries at all about the long messages; I really appreciate you taking the time to write all this!! Thanks again! 💗💗

"You want to know what death is? I'll tell you. Death is the loss of life. Despite everything doctors like me attempt... a patient's life can still fall through our fingers. You think death lies in the apex of science? Anyone with such little regard for life will die by my hand."

Character Analysis: Yosano Akiko
Age: 25 || Ability: Thou Shalt Not Die
BSD CHAPTER CHAPTER 65-66 SPOILERS
table of contents:
1. Author counterpart.
2. Yosano's history.
3. 'Angel of Death' defined.
4. Yosano and Atsushi.
YOSANO BRAINROT!*(#&!*@#($
1. Author counterpart.
Having been given the “Sho Ho” at birth, Yosano Akiko’s counterpart—the real-life author—was known for her zealous take on both feminism and pacifism.
Side note: Once again, to avoid confusion, I will use the name Sho Ho in reference to the real-life author, and Yosano in reference to the BSD character.
Sho Ho's writings were pretty much out-of-the-ordinary in her time, and despite being suppressed by the social norms of gender hierarchy, she sought to reform society’s view on the cultural perspectives of women and their sexuality (She expressed her love for a woman in one of her poems, but many still argued on whether she identified herself as queer or not.)
"Thou Shalt Not Die," Yosano's ability, is actually named after one of Sho Ho's most famous, controversial poems. She wrote it for her brother, who was a soldier in the war between Russia and Japan (1904-1905). In her poem, she expressed her general distaste for war and how her brother was a part of it.
O my young brother, I cry for you Don't you understand you must not die! You who were born the last of all Command a special store of parents' love
Would parents place a blade in children's hands
Teaching them to murder other men Teaching them to kill and then to die? Have you so learned and grown to twenty-four?
- excerpt from Sho Ho's poem, "Kimi Shinitamou Koto Nakare"
Her words were blunt enough to inflict guilt on her brother's conscience, as she wasn't afraid to express her disapproval over how her brother took part in the typical violent bloodshed and manslaughter of war. Such opinions perturbed the authorities, and her work was eventually banned from the public for a period of time. Later on, it was used as an anti-war statement.
2. Yosano's history.
Now, as for the character in BSD, Yosano is seen to be generally strong-willed, and later on, we see that she is terrifyingly compassionately ambitious in the way she treats her patients. She treasured life itself, and hated the thought of losing a patient.
Yosano had developed her relations with Mori Ougai back in the Great War, when she was just 11 years old. Her ability was a great benefactor in saving lives. Realistically speaking, she was used for her ability to heal injured soldiers and diminish the effect of any casualty acquired.
Initially, she wasn't aware of this, until one of her close friends pointed it out by subtly accusing Mori of manipulating her to participate in the War under the close-to false pretence of 'saving lives.'
Tumblr media
As much as her ability did save lives, it also forced soldiers to return to the frontlines and suffer injuries over and over again. The soldiers were never given the opportunity to return to their families because of her ability. This obliged them to carry on in the war without any excuse, inserting them into a vicious cycle they had no escape out of.
Metaphorically speaking, Yosano's hatred for Mori sort of mirrors Sho Ho's disdain for war and fighting, don't you think? The way Kafka materialised Yosano's past was quite interesting because he used chapters 65 and 66 to explain Yosano's dislike for Mori, reflecting how Sho Ho used her poem to explain why she condemned the idea of war and how her brother was part of it.
Before the effect of her ability was fully understood, however, every soldier praised and thanked her for what an angel she was. One of the soldiers she had befriended and gotten close to even kept a tally of the number of times she had saved him. He was the one who gifted her the butterfly hairpin she wore all the time.
The weight of the truth that her ability was a curse rather than a blessing fully dawned on her when her soldier friend ultimately committed suicide, because the fact of being indefinitely trapped in the throes of war agonised him until his spirit gave out. This drove Yosano to loathe her ability, or rather, how it was used.
Tumblr media
In the time she participated in the War, Yosano was given the alias 'angel of death' due to the control she retained over the battlefield, but I thought that perhaps Kafka had a reason behind giving her this title, so I did my research.
3. 'Angel of Death' defined.
Side note: I wouldn't want to disrespect any culture or religion, so if my citations are inaccurate and/or disrespectful, do feel free to correct me/let me know! I did research out of pure curiosity, and I don't intend to twist the significance of any of the interpretations.
I had to grow up learning about the basics of religious stuff, so it's kind of nice to study something out of the box, and very much against my father's rigid belief system :D
ARCHANGEL ARIEL
(archangel: an angel of higher rank)
I came across the few characteristics of angels/goddesses and their roles, and the one which really caught my attention was the female archangel, Ariel, the angel of nature.
Tumblr media
[ source ]
In Hebrew, the name Ariel means 'altar' or 'lioness of God,' and her role is to heal. In addition to that, she is also recognised as a helper to another one of the seven main archangels, Raphael, whose role is to provide physical and emotional healing, too.
She is the protecter of the environment and the animals therein, and is bestowed with the duty to oversee the order of heavenly bodies as well as earth's natural resources. She assures the sustenance of food, water, shelter, and supplies of human beings, much like how a nurse is to a patient I suppose.
In relation to Yosano, I think this part is pretty self-explanatory, or perhaps this is blown out of proportion HA, so take this as a suggestion rather than a fact, because I'd like to believe that Kafka had a reason for giving Yosano a title as such.
In the past, I've come across the angel of death only to perceive it as a female grim reaper of some sort, so it was pretty cool to find that the word 'angel' and 'death' made up a title of a someone like Ariel, one of the purest forms of humility and compassion.
GREEK GODDESS PANAKEIA
For my beloved (wannabe/or not) students of Greek mythology (much like myself, let's make a cult!), you've probably heard of Panakeia, the goddess of healing. Medicine finds most of its vital significance in Greek history, and in its mythology, Panakeia is actually known for her ability to heal any kind of sickness.
Tumblr media
[ source ]
Her name means 'panacea,' which is actually defined as a remedy for all diseases. Terminal diseases and injuries lead to death, right? This would bring us back to Yosano's ability to nullify any injury's effects on a person, keeping them from death itself.
Now, we know that in order for Yosano's ability to work, her patient, or victim, has to be in a near-death condition in order for her treatment to take effect. This can't exactly fit into the description of resurrection, but it can be described as some sort of rebirth.
GREEK GODDESS PERSEPHONE
So another goddess which reminds me of Sho Ho/Yosano, is Persephone, the goddess of spring and rebirth. Before Hades, the god of the underworld, fell in love with Persephone to take her to live with him, Persephone lived a happy life.
Hades, with his nature of darkness and the like, was captivated by how pure Persephone was, and stole her away from her former life to live in an environment which differed sharply from her natural aura of purity.
Tumblr media
[ source ]
Remember when Yosano's friend left a note behind before he killed himself? The note said nothing except for, "You are too righteous." Take that as you will, but figuratively speaking, you could say Mori takes the role of Hades in the story, while Yosano can be portrayed as Persephone.
Sho Ho can also be a parallel of Persephone, in that she had to adapt to the realities of war and disharmony, while Persephone had to adapt to the raw darkness of the underworld with Hades.
Sho Ho stood against society's norms and decided to reform it, making her one of the most well-known feministic pacifist in history, while Persephone managed to escape from the underworld to return to her former position, earning the title the 'Bringer of Life,' or the 'Destroyer of Death.'
Furthermore, the way Sho Ho's anti-war poem took its effect later on, reflects the way Persephone restored balance in the world after returning from the underworld.
4. Yosano and Atsushi.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
chapter 66; Yosano: "It's my fault that those close to me died... Is there some place where it's okay for me to live?"
chapter 8; Atsushi: "If I have any chance of saving them all, of returning them home safely, would that mean it's okay for me to keep on living?"
I couldn't help but think of Dazai and Atsushi back when I was reading through these panels. Ranpo (my beloved), along with Fukuzawa, accepted Yosano as she was, despite how her ability was a cause of despair and misfortune.
Ranpo looked past her mistakes and the entirety of how dark her past was to welcome her into the Armed Detective Agency. Dazai, on the other hand, knew who Atsushi was and what his ability had made him do before anyone else, and still decided to provide a safe place for Atsushi to find his sense of belonging, journeying with him as he learned to use his ability properly.
For more info about Dazai and Atsushi's dynamic, you can check out the analysis I did for Dazai :D
Atsushi desired to save people to prove his right to live, while Yosano made her wish to achieve the recovery of all her patients the reason for her existence.
Others would prefer to accuse both Yosano and Atsushi of having a saviour complex, but the reason why they pursued to save people with utmost dedication, stems from the nature of what their past was like. You know the saying 'from broken to beautiful?' Yeah, it's something like that.
The way their pasts were written out gave them a desire to change, which was, I daresay, initiated by the people who took them in: Ranpo and Dazai. Their abilities were demonised because of how they were used, but once they broke from their abilities' effect over their lives, they honed their skills to control them for the right cause instead.
In a less cynical point of view, I believe both Yosano and Atsushi stood for what was right, and wanted nothing but to achieve peace and harmony in whatever way they could, even if it meant risking their own lives to save others.
Tumblr media
So yeah, that's it for my rants today. Thank you for reading, and if you have anything to add, go ahead! I'm open to discussions ;)

CASK OF AMONTILLADO
Tumblr media
SUMMARY
One night, Montresor asked Fortunato if he wanted to drink the best wine that ever existed in the world – the Amontillado. Unbeknownst to the latter, Montresor was actually plotting to kill him. Montresor planned this for quite some time after deciding that he has had enough of Fortunato’s insults.
Knowing that Fortunato has a weak spot for wine, he introduced to him the best wine in the world in order to lure him into their family’s wine cellar. Making the Amontillado sound like the best wine one could ever taste, Fortunato agreed to be taken to the wine cellar in order to taste the Amontillado. Excited and curious, he went and drank with Montresor on the way. It was cold and dark but they still went deeper and deeper ignoring the skulls around them.
Fortunato didn’t feel any amount of fear nor hesitance in going deeper in the unfamiliar tunnel as Montresor made him drink wine as they walked. When they stopped upon a hole, Fortunato was already very drunk and didn’t have the energy to stop Montresor when he chained him up. Montresor then used bricks and piled it up to block Fortunato and trap him there.
A century later after the incident, Montresor mentions that nobody has ever touched the bricks where he trapped Fortunato.
ANALYSIS
Montresor’s intentions
People may describe him to be irrational for murdering Fortunato (he actually is) but at the same time, I would like to think of this as him protecting his family. It may seem as if Fortunato did nothing but hurt Montresor’s pride but in another perspective, he may have been afraid of humiliation as he is not the only person carrying that name. As a clan, Montresors may have a reputation to protect and Fortunato taunted that.
Weaknesses of both characters
I’m sure it added more spice to Fortunato’s characterization but I found his obsession towards alcohol was too unrealistic. But since this is a fictional story, I guess it’s fine. But I can’t help judging Fortunato for how gullible he is when he agreed to go to the wine cellar without sensing an inch of suspicion towards Montresor. I have personally met a lot of people who would definitely go loco for alcohol but not to the point of deciding on something stupid before even getting drunk. I must take note of the fact that Fortunato didn’t die mainly because of his weakness towards alcohol – it was his pride and ego that led him to his death.
This leads me to Montresor’s weakness as well. Both of them have big egos and aside from Montresor murdering Fortunato because he hurt his pride – he also did the same thing by challenging and tempting Fortunato with Amontillado. Pride definitely brought both characters down more than the alcohol did.
Moral of the story
Speaking from experience and how I related to the story, I can say that I have learned how to respect people’s emotions. We all have a different level of sensitivity and there are times when people tend to forget that people can be offended by things that don’t seem offensive to them. Montresor showed great value over his name and if Fortunato respected that, then he could’ve avoided getting on Montresor’s nerves in the first place. Another thing is that, communication is the key to every argument. I doubt that Montresor made Fortunato well aware of what he felt and thought hence the latter pushed even further.

THE GOD STEALER
Tumblr media
SUMMARY
Philip and Sam are on a trip to the mountains in order to find an authentic god. Philip is an Ifugao who fled to Manila in order to live a new life as a Catholic and with him is Sam, an American who wanted to bring home with him a god as a souvenir. Philip wanted to help Sam to thank him for giving him a raise at work.
When they got to their destination, Philip’s grandfather greeted them warmly by throwing a party in Philip’s honor. But during the party, they find out that nobody wanted to sell their gods. Not wanting their trip to go to waste, Philip suggested that he steal his grandfather’s god instead. But then his grandfather died after Philip stole the god.
After the incident, Philip decided that he won’t return to Manila because he felt responsible for this grandfather’s death – the person who loved him the most. When he informs Sam, he is already dressed in a traditional Ifugao clothing while he carves a new god to replace the one which he stole. The two bid their farewells and Sam takes the old one to America as a souvenir.
ANALYSIS
Colonial Mentality
According to research, people with a colonial mentality believe that they are inferior ethnically or culturally as a result of colonization. For a person like Philip, this means an instant and unthinking rejection of all things Filipino, as well as an instinctive and unquestioning support for all things American or white. Philip experienced this and thought of his own ethnicity as something of lesser value than those who live in the city. Modernization was brought to Manila by colonizers and because colonizers look down on the locals – Philip may have desired the need to be “equal” to them by being one of them.
Ifugaos and importance of gods
People value their religion but there are some people who value their religion a lot more than others typically do. Ifugaos are known to be very religious people and rely on their deities on everything that they do. Some of these gods are responsible for their harvests and has great influence on medicine and their system of politics, which I think is colorful and just as meaningful as other religions. But of course, some people may find it odd that they worship idols and trees or animals – but I think it’s alright to find it odd when you don’t understand it but that doesn’t give you the license to disrespect what they believe in. Ifugaos have a lot of practices that aren’t all that familiar to the majority but thanks to F. Sionil, readers are given a glimpse of how important it actually is to them.

SIX FEET OF THE COUNTRY
Tumblr media
SUMMARY
Set outside of Johannesburg, this story follows a man and a wife, two “sort of” farmers, and their reaction to the knowledge that a refuge from Rhodesia has fled to their land and died from overexposure. “Six Feet of the Country” is told from the perspective of the husband, Bass. He regards himself and his wife as pseudo-farmers because he makes most of his money from a “luxury-travel agency” and bought the farm—ten miles outside of Johannesburg—as an idyllic distraction for his wife, Lerice, who is an aging former actress.
One night, Bass is alerted that something terrible has happened in the barracks where the young servant boys--all black--sleep. Reluctantly, the man travels to the dorms. There, he’s informed that another young boy whom he has never seen before has died, likely from a combination of pneumonia and heat exhaustion. He learns that the mysterious boy was the brother of Petrus, one of his trusted employees. Petrus, distraught over the death of his brother, tells his employer that the boy traveled from the extremely poor area of Rhodesia to the big city, looking for work.
Petrus’s family wants to give the boy a decent burial and pay dearly for the expense. But the day of the funeral, they learn that the body in the coffin isn’t that of the young boy. They demand a refund for the funeral home’s mistake, and to have the body of their loved one back. But the funeral home, run by white Afrikaners, refuses, saying that they (technically) already did their job; that they buried the wrong body is not their concern. Petrus and his family exhort their white employers to intercede on their behalf. Bass and Lerice attempt this, but they are neither rich nor influential enough to overcome South Africa's racist bureaucracy. Petrus’s family then must live with the knowledge that their loved one wasn’t properly buried six feet underground, i.e. he was not afforded even “six feet of country.”
ANALYSIS
It is with a heavy heart to say that black people were mistreated a lot back then, it's like they aren't humans at all. They were forced to work at jobs that needs a lot of physical strength and it leads to slavery. I remember, I read somewhere that black people had their own time to go out unlike the white people who can go out freely and wander endlessly. I also read somewhere that in public transportations, there's specific spaces for blacks and whites. Justice was also for white people back then. I'm not surprised because that was during the Apertheid System where they separate white and black people. Just like this story, Petrus and the other farm workers were not treated nicely. Petrus only wanted a proper burial for his brother but they had to pay for his brother's body only learning that the body they gave him was not his brother. It's so cruel of a human to do that. His boss couldn't also help him because they have no money to overcome the racist mindset of South Africa. So then, Petrus and his family had to accept the fact that they couldn't even bury his brother's body. They can't even give justice to his brother. Apertheid system was not necessary and so is racism. It is sad to say that this still exists today and is evident in different countries. It is just too inhumane to kill a black people just because of their skin color. I don't get why they hate people that are not of the same skin color as them. It's not like they wanted to be born like that. It's so sick to hate, mistreat, and kill black people.

Conversation
vxtum: I can't stop thinking about the assassination attempt on Cyclonus and the babies - when one attacks Cyclonus and Tettares and the another attacks Dinobot and Gravitas.
unifyingspark: Could change that scene too, instead of the bomb going off when its rolled in and touches Tetta's little foot and goes off, the Void comes come out of her and covers it, absorbing the blast instead of covering her (tho really same thing in the end lol), with the little one backing up, making a stressed chirp-click. I like that her shadow leads Cyclonus to the attacker x.x
vxtum: I started piecing together a scene. When Cyclonus learns what species the two assassins are, he immediately sets course for their homeworld planet. Galvatron and Scourge are too far away, and when they tell him that they can just take a spacebridge to his coordinates and bring some of their military fleet (Cyclonus & Dinobot are pretty much floating outside the world's gravitational pull in this scene), he tells them to 'take their time'. He wants to terrorize the planet for a little while, and informs his mates to keep their sparkbonds open to their fullest.
vxtum: He then requests the secure channels of the major broadcasting stations on New Cybertron (as well as some of the channels they managed to hack into from at the Galactic Council, automatically assuming the assassins are apart of them). As they're giving him list across the commline, he casually installs a temporary recording chip in his forearm. It then links into his visual protocols and use his optics to project an optical band. It will record and immediately stream the datafeed into the provided channels. Looks like an external HUD. ( https://youtu.be/KvsMVAD7ydM?t=31s )
vxtum: He plans on recording the /entire/ massacre and damage he does to the world, announcing through the hacked channels with something similar to 'this is what happens when you make cowardly attempts on the lives of my children to bring down the (insert name) Empire'. Before he does the announcement though, he's in the armory (a room that is a relatively 'small' space and appears to only have a limited and non-specialized collection of weapons), suiting himself up.
vxtum: And Dinobot is there, questioning him as to why he's not waiting for the rest of his trine and the empire's reinforcements, and that the two of them won't be able to hold their own or do much damage. Cyclonus has his back turned to him, pushing different sorts of ammo (incendiary rounds; plasma grenades, etc.) into his opened vambraces, drawling, "Correction one: You have not witnessed the power of Excelsis, not only through /my/ spark energy, but now with the combined energies of an 'Outlier' and a one-percenter. Correction two," he turned to Dinobot, his expression nonchalant, "you are not coming."
vxtum: Dinobot is made flabbergasted, snarling, "You plan to go /alone/? And with conventional weaponry? I will not allow it! We /wait/ for reinforcements, Cyclonus!"
vxtum: And Cyclonus rumbles low in his throat before turning to a barren wall and presses his servos flat against seemingly innocuous places. A blue light suddenly outlines his palms and digits, and the wall panels then hiss and split, folding back to reveal a handle (he does this four more times, revealing a handle each time). "My wrath desires tribute /now/, and the twins cannot be left unattended," he spoke, tone cold, and he grabs onto a handle. With a grunt, he slowly pulls out an entire ceiling-to-floor weapon rack, hydraulics hissing as it extends outward the rest of the way while Cyclonus reaches into a lit container and withdraws a semi-large, black-shelled projectile, and he turns to Dinobot with it. "This is but one of the many /unconventional/ weapons I have sought out and purchased ever since I had learned that I was carrying. This one, in particular, has the capacity to wipe an entire /moon/ from existence. You have nothing to fear, Master. "
unifyingspark: *reads like watching a movie, grinning stupid
unifyingspark: awe god Kdove T___T it's amazing
unifyingspark: Dinobot watching him, "I see you have made up your mind." He gave his once-pupil an old look. He wasn't at all surprised and yet he was and there was humor in it somehow. "I leave you with my request to join you but I will do as you have asked, the children will be cared for while their Carrier rampages."
unifyingspark: I love this though. I really want Cyclonus to be able to show his.... warrior side. I don't want him de-clawed into mommy (even tho he is lol), he's still so dangerous....
unifyingspark: And this would show that side of him, that's not gone just because he has kids. If anything, it's worse.
vxtum: lmao OH GOD.. Cyclonus is absolutely /not/ de-clawed. His priorities have simply /shifted/, that's all.
vxtum: And the moment his children are made the target of enemies, it's /war/.
unifyingspark: Yes, I love fucking with your muse god.... his little precious girl doing her studies, peaceful, then a black explosive rolls in right at her and she has only time to look and it goes off. Would have killed her if she didn't have the Void.
vxtum: He has to draw on Galvatron and Scourge's spark energy, as is, to be able to move and function the way he normally would.
vxtum: But oh god, using Galvatron's spark energy through his own spark to power his Greatsword.
vxtum: The exact same energy that powers the warlord's fucking fusion cannon.
unifyingspark: I bet it feels good, not only is it unity with his mates, but it's the power he's gained from that union and he hasn't had a chance to use it before...
unifyingspark: "Do I look good on you, darling?" Galvatron growling darkly in the bond, pleased and turned on, feeling Cyclonus fighting and commanding their energy.
vxtum: Once Galvatron and Scourge show up, Cyclonus will retire and relieve Dinobot of his duties over the children, allowing his mentor to now partake in the slaughtering. He wouldn't dare /not/ letting you have your vengeance, too, old one
