Jayson Tatum is becoming a superstar right before our eyes

The Celtics have a superstar. His name is Jayson Tatum.
Reasonable minds can quibble about when, exactly, Jayson Tatum became the best player on the Boston Celtics. There’s no official date everyone will agree on, but let’s call Jan. 11, 2020, a safe compromise. That night the Celtics beat the New Orleans Pelicans by 35 points. Tatum, who on Monday was named the Eastern Conference’s Player of the Week, scored a career-best 41 on only 22 shots. He grabbed six rebounds, tallied four assists, stole the ball three times, and did not turn it over once.
The night wasn’t a coronation, per se — it came against a putrid defense that toggled between Jaxson Hayes and Jahlil Okafor at the five, while Jrue Holiday sat on the bench in street clothes — but everything that’s happened since has been. In his last dozen games, Tatum is averaging 26.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game. True to form, he’s leading the NBA in plus/minus, sandwiched between LeBron James and Nikola Jokic with a 29.3 usage rate and the fifth-highest True Shooting percentage among all players who averaged at least 18 shots over that span.
Some will call this small-sample size theatre. But it feels more like a snake shedding its skin. Earlier this season Tatum really struggled to finish around the basket. That is no longer a cause for concern. Before his explosion against the Pelicans, Tatum shot just 51.6 percent within five feet of the rim, and only half of those baskets were unassisted.
Since, he’s up to 60 percent, with 62.5 percent of them created on his own. This is two things: 1) what the Celtics expected, and 2) a massive relief. Take that one drawback away and what you have is a near invincible 21-year-old who was recently named to his first all-star game. Tatum leads Boston in several categories, including minutes, shots, points, defensive rebounds, and usage.
Comb through NBA history and you won’t find too many third-year players who led their team to a championship, let alone the Finals. But Tatum is positioned to try. His two-way contributions impact nearly every area of the modern game that relates to wins and losses; he’s built to thrive in a playoff atmosphere, with an untouchable combination of size, feel, strength, aggression, and pinpoint footwork that would make a Broadway choreographer blush. All that is terrific, and makes slowing him down on a team that also has Kemba Walker, Gordon Hayward, and Jaylen Brown unimaginably difficult.
But Tatum’s most significant stride comes in the form of his pull-up three, a skewering harpoon every elite scorer should be able to pull out of their bag whenever they want. Among all players who launch at least four pull-up threes per game, only Damian Lillard is more accurate than Tatum’s 39.2 percent this season. It’s a game-changing stresser that, by itself, raises Boston’s collective ceiling.

These shots account for a whopping 22.7 percent of Tatum’s repertoire, up from 10.7 percent last year and 7.8 percent when he was a rookie. (Right now he’s taking more pull-up threes than pull-up twos — that’s not nothing.) He’s improved on the defensive end and as a playmaker, but this shot is Tatum’s golden ticket to megastardom. He hasn’t mastered it fully, but is well on his way.
Now, zoom out to compare Tatum with the select few who led their team deep into the playoffs during their third year and what makes him so remarkable is how pretty much none of Boston’s roster was built with him specifically in mind. He’s an integral puzzle piece, but so are Brown, Hayward, and Walker. They all help each other in Brad Stevens’ whirring drive-and-kick offense, a system that doesn’t go out of its way to lean on Tatum’s virtuous skill set but should tilt more and more in his direction during the playoffs. In more ways than the general consensus probably expected, he’s helped fill the void that was left by Kyrie Irving and Al Horford.
Among all players (54, to be exact) who finish at least five possessions every game as a pick-and-roll ball-handler, Tatum is the ninth-most efficient scorer and ranks in the 86th percentile overall. He glides downhill at his own pace, crouching down to put his defender in jail, waiting to punch through a crack. Tatum averages more points per possession in these spots than James Harden, LeBron James, Devin Booker, and Paul George. (Everyone above him is a true point guard, except Luka Doncic and DeMar DeRozan.)
On a team that believes it can win the whole thing — Boston is currently third in point differential and defense, fifth in offense — every bit of improvement from Tatum is a step closer to reaching their goal. But in this particular context, what does his growth actually mean?
If you hesitate to call the Celtics a true contender it’s probably thanks to precedent. They entered the season with the deepest wing rotation in a league that prioritizes that position. Walker, Brown, Tatum, and Hayward all either had a chance to make the all-star team or an appearance already on their resume. But none were a top-15 player, let alone a top-seven or eight superstar that’s typically needed to win it all.
Tatum can change that. For the season, he stands firm in Real Plus-Minus’ top five, bested only by arguably the four best players in the NBA. Beyond statistics, he’s often guarded by the opposing team’s best defender, a magnet of attention who allows his all-star-caliber teammates to feast on thinner coverage than they otherwise would. When he sets a ball screen — particularly for Walker — defenders can’t trap it then rotate a third man over because giving Tatum a step against a closeout is certain death, as is the fraction of a second in which he finds himself wide open behind the three-point line. In these subtle ways he’s a complementary piece as much as he is a leading man.
With off-ball gravity that’s steadily rising towards the same level seen by some of the league’s top scorers, when Tatum moves his teammates reap a clear benefit.

His improved defense cannot be taken for granted, either. Tatum doesn’t just hold his own on that end, he alters what the offense wants to do. Stevens will often stick him on a squirrelly point guard so that when a big sets a screen the Celtics can either switch it without creating an obvious mismatch, or have him fight over/under the screen and still affect the shot. You could kick a field goal through his outstretched arms.
There are still baby deer moments scattered through his touches, but they announce themselves as necessary mistakes instead of permanent flaws. Tatum’s encroachment towards actual greatness isn’t hard to see, even when he turns the ball over in a crowd or fumbles a sure layup off the wrong angle. In the clutch he’s in the 50/40/90 club, with a usage rate that’s six percent higher than last year.
Night after night, Tatum continues to excel in areas that can’t be taught. He’s finishing with both hands, reading defenses with a patient maturity that’s had by every great player who understands what his team needs at any given time.

Whether that be blowing the roof off TD Garden with a side-step three, freezing a defender with a humbling hang dribble that gets him to the free-throw line, or chasing the opposing point guard through screens and unlocking aspects of a switch-happy, swarm-and-rotate defense that will translate against any offense in the postseason.
Among third-year stars, he’s probably not on the same level as 2006 Dwyane Wade or 1994 Shaquille O’Neal, but has a larger role than Manu Ginobili did in 2005 or James Worthy in 1985. Time will tell if he actually uses these playoffs to make the substantial leap his recent play indicates he’s ready for, to do something Russell Westbrook and Derrick Rose couldn’t in 2011, when their teams bowed out in the conference finals.
Until then, Tatum is the portal Boston’s otherwise excellent ensemble needs to someday win it all. His steady encroachment towards his own MVP-level end game begs the question: Why can’t he be the third best player in his conference — behind Giannis Antetokounmpo and Joel Embiid — three months from today?
Take everything he’s doing — and everything we already saw during his first taste of the playoffs, when he set all sorts of records on a memorable playoff run to the Eastern Conference Finals that was littered with epoch-worthy exclamation points — and it’s not hard to picture Tatum exiting the postseason as that alpha catalyst all title winners need, on a team that can be one. Give him the ball and get out of the way. Good things are happening when the Celtics do.

Modernism Gets Modern with MoMa’s Reopening
After a 450 million dollar renovation, New York’s Museum of Modern Art gets ready to show off its 40,000 square feet of extra space, streamlined design, and more inclusive approach to modern art.

Five years and close to half-a-billion dollars later, Museum of Modern Art’s (MoMa) much-anticipated renovation executed by architecture firms Diller Scofidio + Renfro and Gensler will be unveiled upon October 20. Why is this important? Well, simply put, MoMa actually got a modern facelift—inside and out—something that was long overdue.
For a movement often heralded as avant-garde and experimental, the institutions in charge of displaying Modernist mediums are often mired by a lack of modern aesthetics, from the diversity of race or gender of the artists exhibited to the creativity put into displaying the museums’ artwork. Yet, after a long 90 years, one of NYC’s premier cultural establishments now appears better equipped to take on the task of aligning its founding ideas with its current actions. The renovation is more than just a physically larger, streamlined design, featuring new gallery spaces as well as a new lobby and bookstore; it seems the mindset of one of the largest curators of modern art in the world is now undertaking a more progressive approach by exhibiting interdisciplinary artworks together, promoting artwork from a wider base of artists from around the world, and updating the museum to better question the art it curates. Read on to see how MoMa gets modern.
  The Benefit
In addition to being one-third larger, with 40,000 square feet of extra space, every six months a third of MoMa’s art will be reinstalled. This rotation cycle will help the museum keep the art and artists displayed continuously diverse, a very recent undertaking at MoMa. As early as 2004, when MoMa went through a previous reopening, a mere five percent of the permanent art displayed was by women, and this happened in an institution formed by three women, art patrons: Lillie P. Bliss, Mary Quinn Sullivan, and Abby Aldrich Rockefeller. In 2019 that number has thankfully risen to 28 percent, with an encouraging 21 percent of the artists shown at MoMa currently hailing from nations outside Western Europe and North America. This increased circulation is meant to ensure the museum continues to cultivate and curate a deep and well-rounded network of artists. It also means NYC museum-goers will have a lot more modern art to chew on.
In terms of design, the museum got more than just welcoming, expansive glass panels that open up the inside of the space along with a new East-West axis. With the integration of the new galleries, located in what is now called the David Geffen Wing, it is finally possible for visitors to loop the three main gallery floors, making the viewing experience far more accessible for visitors. In fact, the museum as a whole is a lot more engaging, with its street-level galleries free and open to all on the expanded ground floor, the facade of the structure on 53rd and 54th street now offering a more inviting glimpse into a more inviting museum. And even though MoMa’s gorgeous flagship bookstore has been moved to the basement, the unbounded design allows passersby to get a peek of the rows of beautiful coffee table books that line the downstairs bookshelves.
Of the many recent additions, the Marie-Josée and Henry Kravis Studio, in the heart of the museum, is one of the most important. According to MoMa the space will “feature live programming and performances that react to, question, and challenge histories of modern art and the current cultural moment.” The studio is meant to not only focus on the process of art, but will serve as an introspective anchor to MoMa, fittingly set in the heart of the museum. The second-floor Creativity Lab is also provocative, inviting visitors to connect with art that explores ideas about the present, past, and future.
With all this and more, the extensive renovation certainly seems to have been worth the wait.
The Cost
One of the casualties of MoMa’s great expansion was the adjacent American Folklore Museum, which was razed to make way for the new galleries in the new David Geffen Wing. To be fair, putting the American Folklore Museum next to MoMa is like putting your average Joe next to Keenu Reeves—he’ll be overshadowed before you can say eclipse.
Despite the ground floor spaces being free of charge, general admission remains costly, with a whopping $25/Rs1,700 for adults and $14/Rs1,000 for students. Despite the museum’s impressive endowments, it seems MoMa is eager to recoup their investment after spending 450 million dollars on the project, a sum that can make you feel queasy if you give it a chance to sink in.
  The Future
MoMa’s near future is packed to the gills with new exhibitions and workshops. Museum-goers can look forward to Handles, an opening exhibit by South Korean artist Haegue Yang, featuring six active sculptures designed to play with light, sound and geometry. Another exhibition garnering a lot of excitement is Betye Saar’s The Legends of Black Girl’s Window, where the contemporary artist and printmaker explores mysticism, family, and history through her work.

Cooked up some @butcherbox pork loin recently for Apple-Onion Braised Pork. Used recipe link in bio, and modified to instead use @redmondrealsalt garlic salt, curry and black pepper, and @kettleandfire organic chicken broth. Turned out very tender and flavorful. INSTRUCTIONS (recipe via @tasteslovely – link in bio) Preheat your oven to 425º with the oven rack in the middle. Preheat your cast iron skillet over medium high heat. Pat the #porkloin dry, and season with 1 teaspoon salt and 1 teaspoon pepper. Add 1 tablespoon of olive oil to the cast iron skillet, and sear the pork loin until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes. Flip and sear all sides. Transfer the pork loin to a plate (it will finish cooking in the oven). Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil to the cast iron skillet. Add the apples, onions, 1 teaspoon salt and 1 teaspoon pepper. Sautee, stirring frequently, until the apples and onions begin to soften and get some brown spots, about 5 minutes. Add the #porkloin back on top of the apples and onions. Add the chicken stock, apple juice and apple cider vinegar. Transfer the #castiron skillet to the oven and braise until the pork loin reaches an internal temperature of 145º, about 10-15 minutes. Remove from the oven. Allow the pork loin to rest for 5 minutes, then slice and serve with the apples, onions and braising liquid. 1. Scratch Off A Free, Digital Ticket
Once you’ve watched some videos, rest your eyeballs by checking out a free app called Lucktastic.
Each day, it releases a new assortment of digital scratch-off tickets. Instant wins range from $1 to $10K. You can also earn tokens, enter contests and play games.
The app is free to download — and play.
2. Let This App Negotiate Your Cable and/or Internet Bill
On the phone with your cell phone or internet provider, trying to haggle a lower monthly bill?
Go ahead and hang up. (We know you’re probably listening to crappy music while sitting on hold, anyway.)
Download TrueBill, an app that’ll negotiate your bills, cancel unwanted subscriptions and refund your bank fees.
After downloading the app, create an account and link your bank account and/or credit cards. Turn on the bill negotiation and outage protection features. Boom. TrueBill is already searching for potential refunds — it might get you a refund even when you didn’t know an outage occurred.
On average, Truebill customers get $12 in credits off their cable bills each month.

If it discovers you’ve purchased something from one of its monitored retailers, it will track the item’s price and help you get a refund when there’s a price drop.

Rain Couldn’t Damp the Enthusiasm of Nearly 400 Drag Racers at the 2018 Meltdown Drags
After we flew five hours from Los Angeles to Chicago, news of a weather front moving through the Great Lakes Region wasn’t what we wanted to hear. Pressing forward up I-90 in afternoon traffic towards Byron, Illinois, to attend the Ninth Annual Meltdown Drags, our thoughts were with past Meltdown events and how much fun we’d had covering them. In today’s structured world of motorsports, the Meltdown Drags are something of a rarity. No eliminators, no record runs or qualifying brackets, no huge cash payouts or trophies. And above all, no whining. The basic premise is just go out there, be safe, and have fun!
Sanctioned by Vintage Drag Racing 101 and manned by such dedicated Midwestern gasser enthusiasts as Eric and Jeff Koopmeiners, Paul Zielsdorf, Art Zangerle, Tom Bucek, Steve Liberto, and “Smokey Moe” Petersen, the Meltdown Drags also features a car show, a swap meet, and Gasser Alley, where you may run across a vintage gasser or altered on display from the bygone era. Heck, there is even a pinup-girl contest, won this year by Cassandra Hicks.
The event also attracts its share of luminaries from back in the day, including featured guests Ed “the Cam Father” Iskenderian and gasser great Robert “Bones” Balogh, along with former Funny Car stars Arnie “Farmer” Beswick, Hawaiian and Chi-Town Hustler driver Ron Colson, Randy “Super Nova” Walls, ex-Ramchargers Top Fuel driver Merek Cherktow, and fuel altered star Gabby Bleeker.
This year, 390-plus entrants who braved the weather represented groups like the Scott Rods AA/Gassers, Great Lakes Gassers, Brew City Gassers, Nostalgia Gasser Racing Association, Southern Outlaw Gassers, Northern Indiana Gassers, Geezer Gassers, Southeast Gassers, Southern Gassers, Mid American Willys Club, Straight Axle Mafia, Twisted Pistons, Tin Butchers, Nostalgia Super Stocks, Border Bandits, Gopher State Timing Association, No Car Club, and others. Talk about a slice of vintage drag racing Americana!
Strip promoter and track owner B.J. Vangsness and his crew had to fight 3 inches of rain on Friday repeatedly prepping the track a whopping 12 times, but they were not to be deterred. As for the racing itself, it became necessary to shorten the measured distance from a quarter to an eighth of a mile on both Friday and Saturday for safety reasons (racing late into both nights). But none of the 10,374 spectators (which included visitors from Sweden, Australia, and Great Britain) seemed to mind, as the actual show itself was on the starting line. Then with a dry track surface, quarter-mile racing resumed on Sunday.
Meltdown 2018 was a rousing success in spite of Old Man Weather. If you like what you see here, start making plans to attend the 10th anniversary edition of the Meltdown Drags July 19-21, 2019.
On the Back Bumper The unofficial wheelstander award went to Don Moyer and his 401 AMC–powered, (that’s right) Rebel Reaper fiberglass B/Gas 1941 Willys coupe. He pulled bumper-dragging wheelies on every run.
(Not) the Pits Come hell or (almost literally) high water, the Meltdown Drags pits were bustling with activity throughout the weekend. More than 390 competitors participated in front of a record attendance of 10,374 spectators.
Off-Track Action The swap meet and car show areas at Meltdown 2018 also had plenty for the fans to see and buy.
Past Gas Minnesotan John Zechbauer rolled up with the restored Lutz & Lundberg 1941 Willys B/Gasser. This was L&L’s breakout car. In the early to mid 1960s, the famed gasser team also raced Anglias and a very weird and wonderful altered-wheelbase Oldsmobile Funny Car named 442 Much.
First Out Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada’s Gary Misko with his red 1937 Willys Americar two-door sedan, and the Long’s Garage 1967 SS396 El Camino, were the first ones down the track during Friday’s rain-delayed eighth-mile drag racing.
Living Legends For the third year in a row, special celebrity guests Ed Iskenderian (left) and Robert “Bones” Balogh signed autographs and sold drag racing memorabilia including hats, T-shirts, and posters.
Twisted Deuce Meltdown fans loved the starting-line gyrations of Gold Chain, the 1932 Ford C/Gasser belonging to Midland, Michigan’s Dave Gray. The coupe, powered by a small-block Chevy engine, ran in the low 10s.
Tailwind This is what it looks like when you are trying to do a respectable burnout with the wind at your back. The event director of Meltdown Drags, Paul Zielsdorf, took a little time out on Sunday to lay down a 10.46/129.00 run.
Off the Map Meltdown Drags board member and all round good guy “Smokey Moe” Petersen poses with some of the European visitors who routinely attend the event.
Street Driven Ex-Ramchargers Top Fuel driver Merek Cherktow warms up the tires on his street-legal, two-seat blown Chevrolet/Bantam. The car is capable of low 8s, although Cherktow struggled with the rain-washed track surface.
Big Beats Small Mark Benjamin, driving the Benjamin, Kasicki & Klink AA/GS 1933 Willys with blown small-block Chevy power, took on Scott Rods’ Al Borowski in a big-block Anglia. This particular heat was won by Borowski, recording a 5.62-second eighth-mile e.t.
Up, Up, and Away Muscle car collector Jim Paulson wheeled the ex–Candies & Hughes-Jake’s Speed Shop altered-wheelbase 1965 Plymouth Savoy past Wally Petersen and his 572-inch AWB 1965 Hemi Dodge Coronet. Paulson ran a best of 10.50/123.00, but since Petersen didn’t file a flight plan with the tower, no times were recorded!
Wheels-Up Chevy David Tanner’s blown small-block, chop-top 1932 AA/G Chevrolet coupe has been a regular at the Meltdown Drags. His wheels-up runs are always popular with the fans.
The Future These two small fries appear to be poised and ready to jump into Junior Dragsters and get with the program. Someday, dad, someday!
Wheelstand Battle The anticipated side-by-side wheelstand showdown between two of the Midwest’s Tri-5 wheelie kings, ex-Chicago police officer Mike Bilina and “Iron Man” Tony Shervino, failed to fully materialize. Timing between the two racers appeared to be the problem because it sure as heck wasn’t the cars.
Classical Gassers Nostalgia Gassers’ Steve Bacon and his Innocent Rascal 1941 Willys B/Gasser squared off against the Lost Wages 1956 Chevrolet B/Gasser of Robbie Roberson in a match that Bacon won.
Ford vs. Chevy Tommy Killingworth’s Miss Fit, a 1963 Ford Fairlane AA/GS running out of the Southern Outlaw Gassers group on pure Ford power, faced Randy Stone’s Bootlegger A/Gas 1955 Chevrolet shoebox, which won this particular heat.
Colson Stude Pitside attractions at Meltdown 2018 included the former Colson & Wood/Scott Hammack AA/Gas 1941 Studebaker coupe. A Pennzoil ad from the March 1963 HOT ROD, which was displayed with the car, extolled back-to-back class records: 11.64/118.42 at Oswego, Illinois, followed by 11.33/131.78 at Cordova. At the wheel was Ron Colson, who also earned fame driving the Chicago Patrol, Hawaiian, and Chi-Town Hustler Funny Car (among others).
Stead(y) vs. Crazy Marty Stead driving the Stead Speed Shop 1941 AA/Gas Willys went off against fellow Scott Rods circuit member Brian Spotts and It’s Crazy, his 1952 AA/G Anglia. Running on a 5.60 index, Stead posted a winning. 5.64 seconds in the eighth-mile.
Black Magic Check out Alex Case’s street-driven 1965 Dodge Coronet. It is powered by a Keith Black alloy Hemi with Stage V twin-plug Hemi heads, twin magnetos, a Danekas blower, and eight (count ’em!) Stromberg carburetors. Unbelievable!
Missing a Few Another oddity to be found in the Gasser Wars display was this blown Chevrolet Hemi V6. We’re not sure about the who, what, or why, but the pintsize Hemi sure drew a lot of attention.
Holeshot In round one of the Scott Rods show, Mike Kalinowski’s Un-Finished Business AA/Gas ’52 Austin took on Jeff Cryan and his wheelstanding 1933 AA/G Willys known as the Phenomenon. Can you guess who won?
Burnin’ and Churnin’ Nostalgia Super Stocks member John Grinwald and his Gold Digger 1965 AWB Dodge put on one heck of a show for Meltdown Drags fans Saturday with eighth-mile smoky burnouts.
Street-Legal Sprint Car Street-Legal Sprint Car: How many times have you seen an old Kurtis sprint car running around town? Well, if you live in the State of Illinois, you might run across this Ford flathead-engined single seater.
Dueling Hemis The ever popular two-car fuel duel: Jim Henry’s Big Iron injected nitro Hemi-powered 1964 Plymouth and Steve Moth’s Bad News 1964-1965 AWB nitro Hemi Dodge traded wins throughout the weekend.
Beating the Bully Rich Maier and his Blacktop Bully 1940 Chevrolet C/Gasser went up against the Mr. Quick’s Speed Shop–sponsored Moon Dust 1965 AWB Plymouth. The Hemi won.
Ultravintage Floyd Craig’s 21-stud, flat-motor-powered D/Altered Model A and Kevin Croise’s similarly powered Ornery Buzzard front-engine dragster are regulars at the Meltdown Drags and underscore the meaning of dragstalgia.
Free Booty A popular feature with Meltdown Drags participants is the prize booth. The racers’ ticket numbers are randomly drawn throughout the event, and they are allowed to select from a bevy of really cool items.
Sincerest Form Paul Brown decided that since he already owned a replica of Doug Thorley’s Chevy 2 Much, why not replicate the former Burgeois & Wade Doug’s Headers Logghe Chassis flip-top Corvair? A close inspection reveals that the car is expertly done, borrowing visual cues from both the B&W car and Thorley’s U.S. National–winning Corvair. Yes, there were two. That’s car owner Brown in the fire suit.
Chip off the Old Block Following in his dad Paul’s footsteps, 17-year-old David Zielsdorf jumped behind the wheel of the family’s 427 big-block 1963 Chevrolet Biscayne on Sunday and hammered out a 12.06/116.00, topping the old man’s personal best by a couple thousandths of a second.
Hot Track Seven-year-old Oliver Bucek mans the Mattel Hot Wheels race track, where every kid who participated got to choose and take home his own Mattel Hot Wheels die-cast miniature.
Broke as Hell According to the shoe polish on the windshield, the “world’s fastest outhouse” Model A runs in the 10s thanks to a 371-inch “Chevy/Olds” V8. Rick Neal’s Possum Killer Garage built the roadster pickup, which now belongs to T.K., Tug, Bo, and Trouble Thompson of the Broke as Hell Garage of Memphis.
Henry Battle Nostalgia Gassers member Tom Peter’s Drag Addict B/Gas 1951 Henry J went up against Nick Nampa’s No Quarter 1951 Henry J B/Gasser. Nampa took the win.
Quicker Than the Auto Club Whenever one of the contestants lost fire, the Meltdown Drags starting line crew was quick to remedy the situation.

How Data Analytics is Impacting Today’s Businesses
Data analytics is having the biggest impact on small to medium sized businesses right now, learn how data analytics can improve your business performance.
With an increasing number of companies ramping up their initiatives for digital transformation, there has been a huge surge in the implementation of data analytics.
For example, deep learning is allowing small businesses to improve and enhance their decision-making capabilities, while machine learning has begun to revolutionize the way in which brands are marketing to their customers. Deep learning is a subset of machine learning, and utilizes artificial neural networks, which learn from vast quantities of data in a similar fashion to the functioning of the human brain. As a result, machines are then able to solve incredibly complex problems, with fine precision. And the more that deep learning algorithms learn, the better they are able to perform.
This year has marked a critical point, where deep learning is now helping all manner of small businesses to significantly enhance their capability for making the right decisions and take operations to new heights. For example, the development of chatbots is happening at a rapid rate, and through deep learning, they are now able to respond far more intelligently to an expanding list of questions in order to create useful and helpful interactions with customers. Thanks to deep learning, chatbots are provided with a framework on which they can continually build, allowing the knowledge base to grow exponentially.
#2. Dark Data:
Dark data might sound like a rather sinister term, but the truth is that it’s quite the opposite – dark data simply refers to the information assets that are collected, processed and stored by companies but are not put to use. This data often has a lot of value, but manages to slip between the cracks – for example, email attachments that are opened and then left undeleted, unused customer data, and old customer support tickets. And, with dark data predicted to account for a huge over 90% of data by next year, it’s no surprise that more companies are taking steps to utilize it as much as possible.
One of the ways in which companies are putting dark data to use is by using the data collected from old customer support logs in order to see which medium a customer preferred to use when initiating contact, and how long the interaction would last. This kind of dark data may have been forgotten about in the past, but is now being put to use and helping businesses determine a customer’s preferred method of contact, which then allows them to deliver a better and more personalized customer experience going forward.
Web data integration is also extremely effective when it comes to methods for generating unused data. Websites can be converted into structured, useable data that provides in-depth insights, which can then be integrated into both analytics and business applications. For example, web data integration allows companies to access updated data whenever a lead performs a targeted action, helping to ensure that leads are continuously up to date.
#3. Mainstream Machine Learning:
Machine learning is the process by which machines learn information through training algorithms. This form of sophisticated data analysis has become increasingly widespread in recent years. Some notable examples that you may recognize include Netflix and Amazon generating personalized suggestions for customers that are based on previous activities and queries.
In 2019, machine learning has been taken to new heights and has opened several new doors of opportunities for companies across a wide range of industries, as the artificial neural networks that make up the design and architecture of machine learning become increasingly more advanced.
