You can buy a brand new copy of this issue without the mailing label for your very own at my eBay store: https://www.ebay.com/str/bradentonbooks
Cover: Shiloh Jolie-Pitt

Page 1: Christina Aguilera at 40 -- she talks about child stardom, learning to love her body, and what she wants her daughter Summer to know
Page 2: Contents, Renee Zellweger, Phoebe Dynevor and James McAvoy at the BAFTAs in London

Page 3: Mariska Hargitay and Law & Order: SVU co-star Ice-T take a selfie during a break from shooting the cop drama in NYC, Heather Graham at the beach in Mexico, stepping into the America's Got Talent studio Sofia Vergara elevated her casual cropped jeans with strappy platform sandals in L.A., Jason Momoa cutting a rug with an unidentified partner ahead of filming a scene for his upcoming fantasy film Slumberland in Toronto
Page 4: Colton Underwood comes out -- saying he's the happiest and healthiest he's ever been, the former Bachelor clarifies his orientation
Page 5: Lena Dunham is no stranger to controversy, so it comes as no surprise that her foray into fashion design has also come under fire as she partnered with a plus-size label to create the capsule collection 11 Honore x Lena Dunham, but the kicky line quickly came under fire as critics are calling it tone-deaf, mediocre and not inclusive at all since its largest size is a 26 and some are even going so far to call Lena a grifter who gained weight in order to make money off the plus-size community but Lena, who underwent a hysterectomy at 31, has pointed to early menopause as the cause of her straight-up gut -- while Lena refuses to be intimidated by bullies, she is listening to the complaints about sizes and is planning to address it
* Once a cautionary tale of the perils of child stardom, at age 40 Macaulay Culkin is a father himself as he and girlfriend Brenda Song welcomed a son, Dakota -- he's finally overcome his demons and Brenda has been a huge influence on his life and helped him get back on the straight and narrow and he's even pursuing acting again, shooting season 10 of American Horror Story; his life has taken such a positive turn
* A year after announcing her split from Jay Cutler, Kristin Cavallari is seeing the upside of divorce, saying it's made her a better mom in some ways because she has her kids half the time now so when she has them for her week, she is so incredibly present with her kids Camden, Jaxon and Saylor and she is not distracted by her phone or anything else; she is with them -- Jay and Kristin each have the kids 182.5 days a year and court papers also revealed that her ex is allowed two phone calls and two FaceTime or Skype calls a week and vice versa so now every moment is precious and if someone is having a temper tantrum or something, she remains calm because she knows that she is losing them in a few days
Page 6: Gwen Stefani is widely thought to have had some help in the nips and tucks department, and as her wedding to Blake Shelton approaches, he is starting to object to her constant tweaking of her face -- she's always messing with it by getting more fillers and Botox and Blake is afraid of what he'll see at the altar and he's freaking out at Gwen's increasingly extreme beauty routine which is becoming increasingly over-the-top; Gwen can barely move her face to smile at him anymore and it looks weird -- while he frets, he's trying to reassure his wife-to-be because Blake thinks she's beautiful just the way she is
* As an executive producer on the long-running Law & Order: SVU, Mariska Hargitay has tasked the writers to come up with more storylines featuring one of her favorite characters: defense attorney Trevor Langan, played by none other than her husband Peter Hermann -- Mariska and Peter originally met and fell in love when Peter guest-starred on the show and she loves to keep that magic alive by bringing him back to play Trevor but the trouble is he is busy with his own gigs as a series regular on Younger and his recurring role on Blue Bloods and Peter loves working with his wife, but he has his own acting career apart from Mariska -- still, he may soon have his day in court because Peter understands how Mariska feels and is trying to work his schedule to allow him some guest spots in the near future
Page 8: Star Shots -- Lenny Kravitz with a guitar flaunted his well-sculpted midsection during a stroll on the beach, Suki Waterhouse with her on-the-go grub on the set in Liverpool
Page 9: Louisa Jacobson and Taissa Farmiga and Denee Benton on the set of The Gilded Age in NYC, Conan O'Brien sipped on a soda at lunch in L.A., Katy Perry in the American Idol bathroom

Page 12: Kelly Osbourne handed out items at a food distribution event as the Islamic Center for Southern California, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in the gym, despite a no-social warning a cheeky Nicole Kidman shared a pic from the set of Aaron Sorkin's Being the Ricardos in which she portrays Lucille Ball
Page 13: Anabella Sciorra and Donnie Wahlberg gloved up for a Blue Bloods scene in NYC, Heidi Klum and husband Tom Kaulitz started their morning during a walk on the beach in L.A.
Page 14: Travis Barker showed off his body art stepping off a Hollywood tour bus shirtless after filming a music video, a cheerful Britney Spears gave a fun look into her wardrobe in a pink floral frock, Scott Disick and Amelia Hamlin color-coordinated for a walk near the beach in Miami
Page 16: Lamar Odom and Aaron Carter put up their dukes to promote their Celebrity Boxing Match in Philadelphia, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and husband Nick Jonas at the BAFTAs in London, Ellen DeGeneres on the phone during a stroll in her main hood of Montecito
Page 18: Normal or Not? A denim-on-denim clad Jay Leno scratched an itch while filming a project in Los Angeles -- not normal, dressed in a Siggi sweatshirt Katie Holmes picked up some seasonal blooms on Manhattan's Upper East Side -- normal, Kate Beckinsale multitasked during a car ride by applying undereye patches -- not normal
Page 19: Gavin Rossdale appeared to be pleased with his Kitson purchase by doing a little dance after leaving the popular L.A. store -- not normal
Page 20: Fashion -- stars wow in statement-making capes -- Gisele Bundchen, Charlize Theron, Zoey Deutch
Page 21: Greta Gerwig, Elle Fanning
Page 24: Justin Bieber: How Love Saved Me -- the formerly troubled pop singer gives praise for wife Hailey Bieber
Page 25: Olivia Wilde and Harry Styles' romance has already cooled and the pair are giving each other space -- turns out Olivia and Harry don't actually have much in common -- the two jetted to London after wrapping Don't Worry Darling, but they were soon waylaid by their respective responsibilities as Olivia has been spending time with her kids Otis and Daisy while her ex Jason Sudeikis shoots Ted Lasso while Harry, who was spooked by how quickly intense things got, is gearing up for his role in My Policeman -- for now, the two have decided to reassess things when they're back in L.A., which leaves the window open for Jason, whose strategy was to let her and Harry fizzle out, then see where she is at, and it's going according to plan
* Jennifer Lopez calls off her relationship with Alex Rodriguez
* Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher are better than ever after overcoming a rough patch, one that had their inner circle convinced they were headed for divorce -- Mike had a serious roving eye that made Carrie anxious and she would treat him like he was Mr. Underwood and tensions between the two were at an all-time high when the pandemic hit, forcing the two into extra one-on-one time, but as it turns out, their new routine is just what they needed because they set boundaries, divided up tasks and put time aside for fun things and they prioritized romance, which has made all the difference -- Carrie and Mike are re-committed to their marriage and they've been through so much so much and neither wants to throw it away
Page 26: Cover Story -- Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's model kid -- Shiloh Jolie-Pitt the gorgeous teen is ready for her close up, but Brad and Angie are at odds about Shiloh's new passion -- Shiloh's been experimenting with girlier styles lately, including growing out her hair and she's at the age where she's starting to change things up -- Brad isn't thrilled about Shiloh's modeling dreams and idea of her walking into the lion's den gives him cause for concern -- Angelina began modeling at 16, just one year older than Shiloh and Shiloh knows that's what set her mom on her path to fame and Shiloh is constantly asking Angie about the pros and cons of the modeling world

As the month went on, my choices became more and more obviously comfort-reading-ish.
Reread: Pretty Face by Lucy Parker.
Total: thirteen novels (includes four audiobooks and one reread).
Cover thoughts: Unintentional colour scheme – blue to orange to purple. The Grandest Bookshop in the World is lovely (and would have caught my attention even if the artist hadn’t posted about it on Tumblr) and This Side of Murder made me want to read the book. A Song Unheard sets off my “unconvincing violinist” radar (I don’t know why), and I’m disappointed the cover for One True Pairing doesn’t match Level Up.
Still reading: The Rose Code by Kate Quinn and Castle Charming by Tansy Raynor Roberts.
Next up: Bellewether by Susanna Kearsley.
My full reviews are on Dreamwidth and LibraryThing.
*
The Verity Kent mysteries by Anna Lee Huber:  Historical murder mysteries, set in 1919.
This Side of Murder: Verity Kent, a young war widow, is invited to a houseparty on an island off the coast of England. It would be exactly the sort of romantic mystery I like, except I expect more from such stories: stronger prose, a more vivid sense of place and/or more nuanced characterisation.  But this was was arguably successful on its own terms – likeable and entertaining. I don’t really think I should blame it for not delivering exactly what I wanted. 3 ★
Treacherous is the Night: I knew this wasn’t going to be what I wanted but I was curious about how something in Verity’s personal life developed in the aftermath of the previous book. I can’t say I paid much attention to the actual mystery. I’d read the sequels if there weren’t so many other books I wanted to read more. 2½ ★
*
The Grandest Bookshop in the World by Amelia Mellor: Children’s historical fantasy, set in Melbourne in 1893.
This is a mix of things I love  – Melbourne! a bookshop! eccentric family! sibling dynamics! teamwork! riddles! – and of things I find disquieting. Creepiness is not a deal-breaker for me, and I can’t pinpoint why the sinister figure making deals with children, memory loss and destruction of beloved spaces made me feel so uneasy here. 3 ★
*
The Somerset Tsunami by Emma Carroll (narrated by Katherine Press): Children’s historical, set in Somerset in the early 1600s.
I think Carroll is an excellent storyteller and this story is no exception. However, it involves two things I don’t particularly enjoy reading about in historical fiction: a natural disaster and a witch trial! 3 ★
*
Murder on Cold Street by Sherry Thomas: Historical murder mystery, set in  Victorian London. Fifth in the Lady Sherlock series, following on from The Art of Theft.
After Inspector Treadles is accused of murder, Charlotte Holmes sets out to uncover the truth. This mystery was very satisfying – tense, atmospheric and intelligent, and the investigation feels both urgent and personal. Thomas is insightful about the issues and constraints faced by a variety of women in Victorian London, and I enjoyed piecing together an increasing understanding of the characters connected to the murder, especially Treadles’ wife Alice, who has recently inherited a business. 3½ ★  *
The Shadows Over England trilogy by Roseanna M. White (narrated by Liz Pearce): Romantic historical mysteries set in 1914 during WWI. Christian fiction. Standalone sequels to A Name Unknown.
A Song Unheard: Willa is sent to Wales to steal a cipher from the Belgium violinist. I rolled my eyes at a few things, but once I decided to just accept that Willa is a musical genius, I loved Willa’s and Lukas’ passion for music and enjoyed their banter and flirting, and I liked the chapters about Lukas’ teenage sister, Margot, who is back in Brussels. 3½ ★
An Hour Unspent: Barclay, ordered to discover if a clockmaker’s latest development is relevant to the war effort, befriends the clockmaker’s suffragette daughter. One of my favourite things about this trilogy has been Barclay’s large and loving found-family; I enjoyed spending more time with them. The romance was sweet, too. 3 ★
*
Nomad by R.J. Anderson: YA-ish fantasy, faeries and shapeshifters. Sequel to Swift.
When I read Swift in 2013, I was left feeling unsatisfied because this hadn’t been published yet and I wanted more of Ivy’s story. Well, here is more, but I really should have reread Swift first. Reading this was like picking up a book halfway through – and that’s just not the way to properly appreciate a story. 3 ★
*
Fandom Hearts by Cathy Yardley: Contemporary fandom-y romance, set near Seattle.
Level Up: Tessa needs help from her roommate Adam and colleagues to build a successful computer game in time for a fan contest. Initially the mid-2010s fandom references struck me as dated (not quite old enough to be ‘vintage’!) but then I settled into the story. More cute romances with fandom references, please.
One True Pairing: Mystics actor Jake hides from a mob of fangirls in the cafe where Hailey works. Jake’s in town for a fan convention, and Hailey soon concludes they would both benefit from a different sort of con: fake dating! A different side of fandom to Level Up, but enjoyable in its own way.
*
Ayesha at Last by Uzma Jalaluddin (narrated by Lara Sawalha): Contemporary Pride and Prejudice retelling about Muslims in Canada.
Yet another retelling, but it definitely – and deftly – justifies its existence. I thought it was lovely. Because it just draws on bits and pieces of Pride and Prejudice, I couldn’t predict how lots of things would unfold, and there was room in the story to explore Ayesha’s poetry and her relationship with her grandparents, and Khalid’s dealings with his Islamaphobic boss. 4 ★
*
Love at First by Kate Clayborn: Contemporary romance, set in Chicago.
Nora and Will have both inherited apartments in the same building, and Nora enlists help from neighbours to convince Will  that he can’t turn his apartment into a short-term rental. I love Clayborn’s writing and I enjoyed reading this, but I didn’t like it as much as her other books. I’m not sure why… Personal preference? 3 ★

Podcasts, Youtubes, and TV Shows to Distract Yourself With Because Why Not, and Also Because I Wanna Blab About Some of These
Since I can’t go to work and horrify my coworkers/make them realize I’m a mess and/or nerd by telling them about the type of media I’m into, I’m foisting my recommendations on all of y’all who choose to read this. I frankly do not care how many people have actually heard of these things because I’m also sure there’s plenty of people who, like me, are very slow and oblivious to entertainment, or who have heard of the property but were never that convinced.
Kipo and the Age of the Wonderbeasts
Type: TV series
200 years after a mysterious yet earth-shattering event, much of humanity has taken to living beneath the surface in communities called burrows, wherein life goes on, if effected somewhat by the bizarre fauna that exists above them (referred to as “mutes”, short for “mutant”). One burrow girl, Kipo, founds her world turned almost literally inside-out when she finds herself not only separated from her father and the only world she’s ever known, but on the surface, no less. What ensues is her trying to find her way back home with the help of a stony-faced little girl with a massive chip on her shoulder; a music enthusiast and his literal gadfly friend; and some . . . unusual allies that only an oblivious optimist like Kipo could make. All to a kickass soundtrack, a beautiful backdrop of art, and a world where animals have basically evolved into gangs under a looming threat known as Scarlemagne. If you can’t already tell, I love this series to bits and now is the perfect time for people to get into it and encourage another season of it. Just . . . don’t think too hard that whatever happened to cause the Event in the show happened in October 2020 . . .
Available on: Netflix
My Dad Wrote a Porno
Type: Podcast
This should go without saying, but this podcast is definitely meant for more mature audiences. Or somebody with a strong stomach. Not that it’ll always be easy to tell with the type of content this series gives. When Jamie Morton’s father handed him his manuscripts for his self-published books, he had no idea he was being given a pinnacle of a polished turd: It was erotica. Really, really, really bad erotica. But the ear’s trash is the heart’s pleasure with this bad girl, as Jamie enlists the company of friends Alice and James to provide commentary on “Rocky Flintstone”’s series Belinda Blinked, a drama chronicling the sexcapades of Belinda Blumenthal as she climbs the ladders (and men and women) both in and out of the cut-throat world of pots and pans sales. What follows is a goldmine of awkward metaphors, strange bedmates, and just an overall stampede of whiplashing events that somehow exceed expectations. Listen in if you dare . . . And make sure you’re in good company for it. Fun Fact, though: Daisy Ridley, Ben Barnes, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Michael Sheen, Mara Wilson, Elijah Wood are but a few well-known fans of this series! Nobody is safe . . .

Lore
Type: Podcast
Sometimes, truth is stranger than fiction. And what better way to be reminded of that, then to have the dulcet tones of Aaron Mahnke tell you about the lighthouse incident that the 2016 movie The Lighthouse was loosely inspired by? Suffice to say, this podcast could also be interpreted with some advised discretion, but definitely in a way that’s different from My Dad Wrote a Porno. In the centuries humankind has existed, we’ve managed to create a menagerie of beasts, both fictional and in ourselves. Lore explores all the many different kinds of events and persons and creatures we have to offer. In any given episode, we could be talking about anything from the bizarre story of a lady who convinced 18th century physicians that she was giving birth to rabbits, to something more disturbing like the life of H.H. Holmes. Or something as relatively innocuous as the relationship between gremlins and flight. Regardless of the subject, however, you’ll definitely walk away knowing something new, if bizarre. And perhaps slightly terrifying.

The Amelia Project
Type: Podcast
Congratulations: You have been made aware of The Amelia Project. If you’re not interested in this, exit the page. Now. If you continue, there’s no unhearing it. Good choice! A new interest awaits. If you don’t enjoy it, please consider the whole thing a hoax. Okay but in all seriousness, there’s no way to do The Amelia Project justice in just a simple description. The plot sounds quite simple, really: People want to disappear and start a new life, The Amelia Project is there to help – with a price. And that’s if you can actually get a hold of them! What really makes the show, however, are the people and the writing, and I’m not just talking about the almost childlike Interviewer with an obsession for hot cocoa. I’m talking about the clientele: I’m talking about the macabre-obsessed theme park owner who’s out for revenge; the cult leader who’s in way over his head; a Santa impersonator stuck in a miserable marriage with his own manager; an actual podcast character trying to outrun his creators. And obviously this would all be nowhere without the spectacular writing! I really can explain this series without blabbing on and potentially spoiling things; The Amelia Project is an experience!

LegalEagle
Type: Youtube channel
To be frank, I just like learning for the sake of learning, even if I may not always necessarily understand the topic or have any plans to use it in the foreseeable future. The big difference here being that at least this channel makes learning about the law fun and breaks it down. Headed by a certified lawyer (because what an age we live in, where professionals actually take time out of their lives to teach us common folk), there’s a multitude of series D.J. Stone uses to help break down the complex world of law, from reviewing the realism of procedural favorites (Law & Order, The Good Wife, HTGAWM, etc), to analyzing real-life situations, to even watching childhood media that has nothing to do with the law and determining how much money, say, Willy Wonka would owe in a lawsuit. In short, it is one of my worst subjects done in one of my favorite ways to learn! Plus, Stone hates business students and is perfectly willing to poke fun at law students so it’s all fun, frankly.
Available on: Youtube
Nando v Movies
Type: Youtube channel
Sometimes, movies are bad. Sometimes, they’re good. And sometimes, they could use a few adjustments in hindsight. Especially the nerdier movies where the directors may or may not have tried way too hard or way too little. And that’s where Nando comes in: Whether it’s explaining why a different villain might have worked better for a hero’s origin story movie, or analyzing how one seemingly small adjustment could’ve potentially made more sense in explaining characterization, this channel is always providing a new perspective on a movie or show you’ve probably seen and maybe weren’t necessarily too pleased with. (Or maybe you were – I enjoyed Justice League okay but I love the version he rewrote more.) Oh, yeah: Sometimes he does rewrites of movies or even series. So if you’re anything like me and you’re way into that, this is a channel you don’t want to miss out on.
Available on: Youtube
DEATH BATTLE!
Type: Youtube channel
Does anyone remember Deadliest Warrior? No? . . . How about that one time during lunch where you and your friend got into it over who would win in a death match between Superman and Goku? Good news: A buncha geeks did the math for you and have come out with the results! Specifically, hosts Wiz and Boomstick have analyzed the weapons, armor, and skills of each combatant in every episode, resulting in an ongoing series of absolute nonsense and satiation of bloodshed. The description is admittedly nothing crazy, but the amount of detail applied is honestly where it’s at: From calculating how loud Black Canary’s screams are to approximating Scrooge McDuck’s speed (I’m not kidding you), there’s actual thought put into the characters being assembled and how they might fair with their respective combatant. And it all comes together for an actual fight, often animated but always amazing. So if you’ve ever wondered if Thor could beat Wonder Woman, or if McGruff the Crime Dog stands a chance against Smokey the Bear (I’m…I’m being honest), then this is the show for you!
Available on: Youtube
Sideways
Type: Youtube channel
If there is music in that movie or show, it will be analyzed to a degree that, unless you’ve been trained in music, you would’ve probably never thought about. There isn’t necessarily much rhyme or reason to Sideways’ videos in terms of themes beyond music, but really, must they? Is it not enough that this man is screaming to the internet these wack and awesome trends he’s noticed in certain pieces associated with movies and musicals and the genius behind them? Could life not just be him explaining the symbolism of the instruments associated with the Crystal Gems of Steven Universe, or breaking down the cultures explored by way of the Black Panther soundtrack? Also, here’s a fun drinking game: Take a shot every time he mentions leitmotifs or the Dies Irae.
Available on: Youtube
Craig of the Creek
Type: TV show
In the woods of suburban Maryland, there exists a kid’s utopia: A place where horse girls are free to roam the fields, where a boy can be a king of garbage, and where children travel the sewers completely unsupervised. That is, until the dinner horn rings; then they have to go home until the next time they can return to The Creek. The show focuses on one specific trio (Craig, JP, and Kelsey) as every day, The Creek (and their own childish naivete) brings them new hijinks to experience. There’s a blissful lightheartedness to the show, in addition to a lot of creativity that feels like it was ripped straight out of your own imagination as a child (robots made from cardboard boxes, building portals using lights, etc). But beneath it all, there’s something just plain wild brewing. I don’t want to spoil anything, but CotC has some G-rated GOT shit going on the further along the series goes and I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds!
Available on: CN app, wcostream.com
And that’s probably enough for now, I think. Lemme know if you want any other suggestions, or how you’re findin’ ‘em if you take any of them up! Stay safe, stay healthy my dudes!

I was walking through Boston yesterday, I was struck with a sense of the historical magnitude of it, but not in the traditional sense.
I can walk past the Old South and remember with awe Joseph Warren’s Boston Massacre Oration. I can walk past Faneuil Hall and picture in my mind the booming speeches of Wendell Phillips and Frederick Douglass. I can feel the terror of Newman hanging the lanterns in Old North, and every time I did a musket program at the hill, it really put into perspective the terror and bravery that the colonists and soldiers were put through on a blazing hot day in June.
Boston is dripping with history in a way you can’t escape. I see history in every street and building. Yet, yesterday I was struck with something different. Not Boston as the hub of the revolution. Not Boston as the center of politics and art and abolition. As I walked, I saw Boston as a home. A home that’s been a home for centuries. I don’t know why it hit me, but those little flashes of history meant more to me yesterday than any of those dramatic, world changing events.
I saw Charles Dickens at the Parker house, practicing his performance of a Christmas Carol in front of an old mirror to get it perfect, with a line out the front door of fans hoping to get a glimpse of their favorite celebrity.
I saw Wendy Holmes at King’s Chapel, fidgeting and wishing more than anything that he will never have to sit through a church service again.
I saw Oliver and Amelia Holmes walking arm and arm down Beacon Street, newly wed and hopelessly in love. I saw Frederick Douglass watching, proudly- but perhaps with a twinge of fear, as his sons marched down that same street 20 years later to go off to war.
As I walked through the Common, I saw Henry Longfellow sledding down the hills with his sons and daughters, crashing into the snowdrifts below before running up the hills to do it again.
I saw Charles Sumner, 7 years old, floating a paper boat along the Frog Pond, a rare moment when he was allowed to truly be a child.
10 years earlier, I saw Samuel Gridley Howe doing the exact same thing.
100 years later, and a few weeks back at the same time, I saw myself and the love of my life ice skating hand in hand on that same pond, trying our best not to crash.
In times of historical significance, the big moments are what is remembered. Little moments are personal, and we are lucky if they are recorded. Even when they are, they are never what is taught. It’s always secondary. We remember The Boston Massacre. We remember John Adams defended the soldiers. Very rarely do we get to discuss the effect it had on his family. Very rarely do we consider the lives of the soldiers themselves, what they did as they waited in jail, how they lived the rest of their lives once the trials were over.
Big events would be nothing without the people who contributed to them. And every single person had a story. Has a story. Most of those stories are forgotten, or will be forgotten when we’re long gone.
But the Frog Pond will remain. The Common, the streets of Boston will remain. And someday, perhaps someone else will walk that same path I did, and be struck by those little moments too.

Cloak!
Good child
Full Name: Christopher Lakin Ventura-Reyes, but call them Cloak!
Gender and Sexuality: NB and currently questioning their sexuality, they don’t know much about it!
Pronouns: They/Them
Ethnicity/Species: Realtani/Spanish, with some Colombian hints here and there.
Birthplace and Birthdate: Ybeairi Province, Al-Realta (Their parents were on vacation, and they were born pretty early) 10/30
Guilty Pleasures: The entirety of AO3 (or the equivalent in this universe), any kind of Spanish foods and pineapple turnovers!
Phobias: Acrophobia, Algophobia, mild Enochlophobia (very mild though, was more apparent in their teenage years)
What They Would Be Famous For: Defo the LGBT movement in Dariann’s Square, a very good craftsman (person?), new and unique designs, probably breakthroughs in psychology?
What They Would Get Arrested For: Probably arrested in some kind of government protest, although their parent’s immense disapproval would’ve been too much to bear.
OC You Ship Them With: No one yet!
OC Most Likely To Murder Them: okay but why would you do that
Favorite Movie/Book Genre: mysterrryyyyyy, addicted to Sherlock Holmes and HP when they were little, how-to’s.
Least Favorite Movie/Book Cliche: The unnecessary love interest. bleeeh
Talents and/or Powers: can and will read your mind, gr9 shoulder to cry on, can seem emotionally neutral or fragile at times but actually has the strongest skin on the team, rad art, sells and has open commissions for pins, buttons, or patches,
Why Someone Might Love Them: This is the fan favorite everyone
That should be enough but they’re a great kid overall! They’re the logic of the group and everyone’s comfort, or source for change.
Will kick your ass if you’re a jerk tho. However, they’re calm while doing this, if you’re Jerk Mc. Jerkface you’ll find yourself unable to respond to one of Claok’s counters. They know how to fight with words and not actions.
Why Someone Might Hate Them: Can seem too emotionally distant (Although not Ari-level distant), for those wild shippers: they have no love interest! Can seem uncaring at times.
How They Change: ;D that’s up to time to see
But definitely has something with their views, and their lifestyle.
Why You Love Them: Amazing character! They’re my first NB character and a symbol of change for the better, kind of like Amelia. I had a ton of fun designing them and giving them characteristics, and they’re such a fan favorite omg
It’s great.
Thanks for the ask, Violet!

THE MASK OF MORIARTY
January 29, 1998
Tumblr media Tumblr media
THE MASK  OF MORIARTY is a comic play by Irish playwright Hugh Leonard that includes the characters created by Arthur Conan Doyle created for his Sherlock Holmes books, including Holmes, Watson, Inspector Lestrade and Professor Moriarty.  The renowned detective is enlisted to prove the innocence of a young man accused of murder on the Waterloo Bridge. The trail of clues and red herrings leads him to his arch rival, Professor James Moriarty.
The play's premiere was in October 1985 at the Gate Theatre in Dublin starring Tom Baker (”Dr. Who”) as Sherlock Holmes. The play had its American premiere at the Williamstown Theater Festival in 1994 directed by John Tillinger starring Paxton Whitehead as Sherlock Holmes. Although never produced on Broadway, the play has had a healthy run in regional theatres (see below), many starring Whitehead.  It has also become a favorite of community theatres.

THE MASK OF MORIARTY ran at Paper Mill Playhouse (Millburn NJ) from January 7 to February 15, 1998.  The production was shared with the Old Globe Theater in San Diego and Stamford Center for the Arts in Connecticut. Scenic design was by James Joy, costumes by Michael Krass, and lighting by Jeff Davis.  The production was directed by Nicholas Martin and starred Paxton Whitehead, who first starred as Holmes in Crucifer of Blood on Broadway in 1978. Tom Lacy played Dr. Watson, with Elizabeth Roby (Alice / Mary), John Patrick Walker (Bunny), Susan Knight (Gwen), David Pittu (Lestrade), John Seidman (Lord Melmoth), Paul Fitzgerald (Herring), Julian Gamble (Travesty / Landlord), Henny Russell (Lily), and Amelia White (August Personage).

While I'm not a big Sherlock Holmes fan, I am a big fan of Paxton Whitehead. He seems to me the ideal Holmes.  I later saw him in a string of Ayckbourn plays at Westport Country Playhouse, as well as on Broadway in Ayckbourn's Absurd Person Singular.  This production was a lot of fun and had its share of twists and turns – and even some drag!
Tumblr media
During this production the Paper Mill Education Department staged a free symposium about mystery writers which featured local TV personality Amber Edwards and Priscilla Ridgeway (The Mystery Writers of America) interviewing Carol Higgins Clark and Justin Scott. To supplement the interviews, I was asked to write a mini-murder mystery to kick things off!  Not only had I been moonlighting performing in murder mystery dinner theatre, I had also written a few as fund-raising events for local organizations.  I was thrilled to be asked.  It would take place on the set of THE MASK OF MORIARTY and I managed to get Paxton Whitehead himself to record the solving of the mystery (under the conceit of the detective reading a letter from Holmes). So it was that my playlette “The Strange Case of the Victoria Diamond” was written and directed by me on the Paper Mill stage starring Tony nominee Paxton Whitehead!  Oh, it also starred Gil Brady as the detective, who is now doing similar chores off-Broadway in SHEAR MADNESS.  For many years I had a cassette tape of Paxton reading my lines, but time and travails have made it a mystery to me where it went.  I'd look for it, but I am no Sherlock Holmes.
