she has met a lot of people, not all of them friends; there are many who want her dead, now, many that amari would once have trusted with her life, but who are now all but strangers. the universe has moved on, and so has she. she’s a different person, now, with a different name, and a different mission to those given by the agency. and the time for mourning who she was is over, too, isn’t it? what would that bring her, what would it help? she can’t go back. all a person can do is move forward, one step at a time, one jump through time. and hope that there aren’t too many reminders of the past.
amari’s had enough of it. and yet it still seems to catch up with her, no matter what she does. she can’t escape.
❮ once, perhaps. ❯ is this amnesia, or just amari being unmemorable, forgettable? she doesn’t know, and she doesn’t know how much it matters, either. things will be what they’ll be. they are what they are. there’s fuck all she can do about it. ❮ it doesn’t matter. i’m a different person now. ❯

oh, she hates these warehouses; they’re dingy, dark, and they remind her too much of the places she was forced to hide out on the hell world she’s just escaped from. but where else can a non-terrestrial human from the future who’s trying to take down a secretly corrupt organisation hide out until she can get access to money without tipping the agency off? they serve their purpose. good thing she’s used to this kind of misery.
at least the dim light makes viewing the hologram projected from her vortex manipulator easy; amari paces back and forth as she looks at the pieced together timeline, eras and planets in a mixed up order. not so much, though, if you don’t live in a linear fashion; it stopped being a complete head-fuck years ago.
all at once, her wriststrap vibrates: movement. the blue light shutters off, casting amari into gloom that she has to blink through, and she draws her blaster. she can never be too careful, anymore, with all the people wanting to kill her. she does not, however, realise quite how loud these shoes are on the concrete as she follows the life sign --- is that two hearts? --- pausing as she gets within sight of the figure.
doesn’t look very threatening. then again, neither does she, and the time agency sure thinks so.

she hates to say i told you so, but she told you so, doctor. amari’s been in this fight too long to believe that it will ever end; all she’s doing is extending it as long as she can, doing as much damage as she’s capable of before she dies. and she will, sooner or later. that is how it will end. because she is one person, and this is the time agency. it has its fingers everywhere. and she knows who she’s up against. some of them were her friends. she went through training with some. they were people that she cared about.
and they want her dead. pleasant thought, that.
their backs against this door isn’t going to hold off the people on the other side for long, and amari’s not willing to take the risk of being caught unawares; she has her blaster drawn, and her feet planted. she’s ready. ( she’s always ready, and she’s never ready, both at the same time. that’s just how life goes. )
she watches the doctor’s face and...yeah, by now, with him trying his damnedest to keep the agents off, she’s pretty sure that he’s on her side. he’s had plenty of opportunity to kill her. most people have. ❮ try to expose their corruption and stop them taking control of the universe. you know, a tiny thing. ❯ it sucks. it sucks a lot. it’s life. ❮ the right thing, i hope. ❯
