What London Girls Are Really Wearing Right Now

London street style isn't a new phenomenon—the pavements of our capital city have long been dotted with photographers capturing the fashion zeitgeist, from i-D magazine's era-defining straight-ups in the '80s through to documentary snaps of Carnaby Street's '60s mods and rockers. You'll even be able to dig up a Victorian-style snap here and there—even if the focus was probably on the automobiles and industry backdrop, we won't pass up any chance to see a bustle in action.

Today you may be likely to find less of the extremely diverse underground tribes that this cultural hub has always been famed for, but there are still style factions present (and many that we draw great inspiration from). London's a place where you can wear your wackiest outfit to breakfast and no one will bat an eyelid. However, it's also a place where you can be ultra-chic and businesslike one day and trend-led the next. Your style can be whatever it wants to be at any given time. And it's true—Brits really do give good outfit inspiration 24/7.

That's why we're bringing a new instalment each month of true London street style to Who What Wear UK. Summer 2018 is seriously happening, and this past week saw a heat wave continue: That meant dresses and comfy shoes were often the best answer, pretty prints rule the pavements and girls are going so far as to bring key holiday pieces—like straw hats—to the urban jungle. Keep reading to see great outfit ideas from the sidewalks of this fair city.

Style Notes: Interior designer Joyce looks like she's en vacances in Capri, not strolling through London. How chic is her basket bag (bought in France), maxi dress (Zara) and shoulder-robed jacket (Altuzarra)?

Style Notes: Iman's studying to be a lawyer but we'd hire her as a fashion expert any day—just look at that awesome pinstripe Topshop suit and the way she's styled it up. It's still available in the sale for £95.

Style Notes: You'll notice throughout this gallery that white sneaks are key for any London-based girl. Eneria's no exception, as she's paired her chunky Nikes with the cutest dress from Zara.

Style Notes: It's the natty scarf-belt (her own design) and cool white flats from Dior that turn Morgane's simple & Other Stories separates into something truly special.

Style Notes: Kara's a personal shopper at Topshop, so it's no wonder she got first dibs on this excellent snake-print dress. It's all but sold out now (we hear rumours of stock being in stores rather than online), but you can still take her styling advice.

Style Notes: Footwear designer Victoria has our favourite sneaks on (Veja) and a dress we'd really like to own (H&M). Wouldn't mind the Prada bag either. 10/10.

Style Notes: Singer Sarah is giving us Mario Bros vibes, and we like it. Her cool dungarees are from Urban Outfitters and lace-up trainers are from Converse.

Style Notes: Lucky product design student Nour managed to get her hands on one of the Jacquemus hats before they sold out. We adore how she's worn it in a really Girl Scout–ish way with a button-up vintage dress, socks and Adidas sneakers, as well as a little yellow Zara bag.

Style Notes: Scroll through our gallery and you'll see this Zara dress twice—it's been super popular in London recently and has now sold out. Hannah keeps it feeling cool rather than twee thanks to her chunky flat Office sandals and black bag.

Style Notes: Daria's one of a phenomenal amount of London girls who have wholeheartedly adopted the ugly sneaker thing—hers are from Ash and she's taken the pink, white and grey tones in theme to craft her entire outfit. Cute.

Style Notes: We're noticing that visible sock action is key for many of the city's coolest.

Style Notes: Emilia's a menswear designer, and you can really see she knows how to takes those ideas and make them her own. This Hawaiian co-ord is from a brand called Santa Cruz, and it's available on ASOS still for £60.

Style Notes: Confirmed—we want a pink bumbag.

Style Notes: Vasilia, a creative director, has added the most interesting pieces to her monochrome staples: thick-soled sneaks (Balenciaga), a crossbody pouch and a red scrunchie really impress us in their simple-but-punchy effect.

Style Notes: The coolest way to wear a scrunhie? Loose and low to fasten a ponytail.

Style Notes: Let's please take a moment to appreciate that unusual Louis Vuitton bag of Jamila's. Also, the flattering but demure way she's doing bodycon with a longline denim skirt (Zara) and bodysuit. It was hot that day, but we just know her leopard-print jacket would look so great on top.

Style Notes: When in doubt, wear a printed midi dress—that's our motto. So we're pleased to see Veronika wearing this red floral one from Massimo Dutti. Props on the bow mules, too.

Style Notes: Hannah's Borgo de Nor dress is truly wonderful as is, but throw in an Hermès bag with a scarf-wrapped handle, Saint Laurent's Lou Lou heart shades, beaded hoops and sweet sandals, and, well, we're obsessed.

Style Notes: Student Phoebe knows the shades to be seen in right now are mini. Hers are from… eBay! We're intrigued.

Style Notes: Amanda's & Other Stories dress is the perfect style for the city—pretty but not too whimsical, functional but not boring. Also, her expensive-looking leather jacket is from Zara. Hurrah for the high street.

Style Notes: Student Rumbie has definitely persuaded us to ditch skinny jeans some time soon—her baggy Levis look so good with a knotted H&M blouse, Nike sneakers and hoops.

Style Notes: Katie's plaits and glasses are giving us life. But she also confirms the sandals trend really taking off in London right now: flat, black and chunky. Hers are from Zara.

Style Notes: Alex's minimalist ensemble is the stuff of dreams: Her Maison Margiela mac, Theory crop top, Chloé bag and Paul Smith skirt are forever pieces, but we appreciate that she loves Zara shoes just like the rest of us.

Style Notes: Can we please just take a moment to soak up the brilliance of Kyanisha's bold accessorising here? Her bag and shoes are Topshop, set against an equally eclectic array of vintage clothes.

Style Notes: Amanda is a buyer for Macy's in the U.S., but she fits right into the London scene with that shocking pink suit and Chanel bag. Yes, her suit is also from Zara. Can you spot a theme this week?

Style Notes: Accessories are the magic items that bring museum event coordinator Gina's outfit to life. We can't decide what we love more: her cat-eye shades, Comme des Garçons Play Sneakers (£241) or her vintage earrings.

Style Notes: ModelZavi proves that there's so much to be taken from her black-on-black ensemble. Namely that jet-black denim Zara jacket and edgy fishnets.

Style Notes: Stylist Barbara has complemented her new-but-retro Gucci sunnies with a host of vintage goodies. Her concise colour palette keeps an adventurous look together.

Style Notes: It's those red Zara boots again. We can't blame this savvy 27-year-old fashion designer for snapping them up, but we're particularly impressed by the way she's colour coordinated them with her M&S top and Kenzo bag, sandwiching the look with white jeans and a dusty-blue vintage jacket.

Style Notes: Sophia is a 24-year-old student with a truly creative outlook on fashion. Few of us would think to pair royal-blue socks with tan shoes or a smartly tailored jacket shrugged off to reveal a little shoulder. Also, that Ann Demeulemeester neck scarf is just darling.

Style Notes: The way Vera has added oodles of personality to her Prada blazer and tailored trousers is something to behold. From her Moschino belt (an unexpected way to cinch a double-breasted jacket) to her khaki-green fedora, this look is effortlessly cool.

Style Notes: Robin, a store manager, knows where this of-the-moment outfit's key focal point is at the back. This Mango Buckled Jumpsuit (£50) and backless shirt from Topshop are an inspirational and easy-to-replicate combination. We approve.

Style Notes: Pattawee, a student, exemplifies the London fashion spirit: a bit of designer action (hello, Gucci bag), a dash of vintage (her trousers are secondhand) and a little sprinkling of a hot new label (the tee is by Gosha Rubchinskiy).

Style Notes: Now here's a clever new layering trick. See how Miha's placed an embroidered tee over a plain white shirt? It proves you can get some extra mileage out of your summer goods even now. Also, props for a successful one-shoulder shrug of her Alexander McQueen jacket.

Style Notes: This fashion director has clearly been looking at the same pictures I've been ogling of '80s singer Sade. Samantha's accessories are full of wit, so staples like a black velvet blazer and a roll-neck act as the perfect base layer.

Style Notes: Desislava, a journalist, knows a good trend when she sees one. We're into her double-dose of vinyl. Her trousers (and jacket) are from Acne Studios while the bag is a recognisable number from Christopher Kane. The muted colour palette makes this adventurous fabric combination look easy.

Style Notes: Not only has Inês proved it's a great idea to mix 'n' match your frayed denim (Marques'Almeida top and Uniqlo jeans), but she's also proved that it's a good idea to invest in this season's pouch bag trend. The mini-grab style adds a certain cuteness to any grunge look.

Style Notes: Sometimes the most random pieces can work beautifully together, as proven by Annabelle, a PR assistant for River Island. How does she ensure the River Island jacket, ASOS jeans, Topshop shoes and 3.1 Phillip Lim bag all work together? It's down to little highlights of colour tying every piece into a unified concept.

Style Notes: Creative director by trade, seriously creative closet by nature! Clodie has taken the skirt-over-trousers formula to its furthest degree with her neon tube skirt and ruffled pants. This wild getup is predominantly vintage and high street, showing once again that you don't have to spend a fortune to stand out.

Style Notes: It's Fenn's concise all-American stars-and-stripes vibe that we dig here. Her Sandro jacket is such a head-turner that really makes the look shine.

Style Notes: Andrea has given us food for thought. With the student's longline flea market–bought biker jacket and statement frames from Andy Wolf, we've got yet another way to wear that pleated midi skirt.

Style Notes: If you're ever searching for a transitional summer-to-autumn outfit idea, look to communications director Audrey. With her chunky Maiyet sweater set against a leg-baring thigh-slit Céline skirt and knee-high boots from Acne Studios, this ensemble has it going on.
