Quantum Leap Writing Prompt: Weird Dreams Are Made of These
(I literally just woke up from this dramatic, cinematic dream okay so now it's a prompt. This should definitely be included in the horror prompts collection lololol)
Sam has Leaped into Bob, the Carnival worker who has a weak right side. It's getting very late, and Al still hasn't shown up, But Sam is still working even as the sky gets darker and darker until it's full night-- this carnival has a petting zoo, and one of the lambs has gone missing.
Tasked to find the lamb after everyone else gives up and goes home for the night, Sam continually searches the area, sometimes retrieving one of the ewes in the hopes they would lead him to their lamb, but no success.
It's as he's once again searching the outside of the warehouse that Love Interest Of The Episode (We'll call her Laura) walks over to see if he needs help, because she's watched a few different Carneys come over here, obviously searching for something while she was working, but not a single person offered to help look-- so here she is, offering to help, now that her own shift is done at the booth she works at.
Smiling at her kindness, Sam explains that the ewes have been upset and one of the lambs has gone missing, so now they're trying to find it.
Laura asked if the warehouse has been searched yet, and points out that one of the old doors on the back half of the building has been broken, a large chunk of the door fallen to the ground from some kind of rot, the damage mostly hidden behind the dumpsters. The only reason she noticed it is from her booth facing that direction all day.
Sam agrees to check out the warehouse and suggests she go home for the night to get some sleep, but Laura is determined to help find the cute lost little lamb, and besides, lambs aren't the only cute thing here; cue this flirting going completely over Sam's head as he starts talking about all of the baby animals that are also at the petting zoo as they approach the building.
Anyways, Sam and Laura both enter the Warehouse and find it's just the after-hours lights turned on, with no switch in sight-- only every other aisle is lit up, and the warehouse is packed with random boxes and crates and pallets of supplies.
They begin walking around, following the floor layout of the warehouse, occasionally calling out for the lamb, but don't get any response. They're almost to the end of the warehouse now, the corner farthest away from the exits when they turn a corner, shining the flashlight they found and --
There's the lamb.
It's standing in a corner, stock still.
Just ....staring, at a small red stroller that is next to it.
The hair on the back of his neck is standing on end, and Sam quickly pans his flashlight from the frozen lamb to shine it into the stroller --
"Oh no!" gasps Laura, and she and Sam both quickly rush over to the stroller to check on the child that lays within, a young girl with deep purple bruises under her eyes and long, wild brown hair, her skin white as a sheet.
She lays in the stroller, unmoving, not even stirring when their flashlights shine on her pale face.
Sam's medical training kicks in and he immediately starts to check for a pulse and breathing, feeling how ice cold the girls skin is...
She's not breathing, and the heartbeat is far too slow, Sam is about to begin child CPR when-
The girls eyes snap open.
And she grins widely.
Revealing a mouthful of fangs.
Letting out an unnatural cackle, she lunges at Sam, snapping her teeth at his face, and he falls backwards with a shout, falling out of the way and next to the lamb, grabbing the little animal with one arm and pulling Laura back with the other as the girl swipes at them with fingers adorned with long, glittering claws.
"What's happening!?" Laura screams as the pale girl turns into a half-corporeal green mist, her legs disappearing to be replaced with a long trail of green smoke.
"I don't know but run!" Sam shouts, and the two scramble to their feet so they can turn and run, Sam holding the lamb under one arm like a football.
Sam is slowed by Bob's weak leg and protecting the lamb, but Laura doesn't leave him behind, and instead pulls him along with surprising strength to her grip. They stumble and crash through the warehouse, the creature right behind them --
The creature lunges for Laura and Sam jumps in the way --
The long, glittering claws rake across his chest--
And then suddenly it's like he's Leaping, but everything is wrong
Green light bursts out of his skin in sparks and waves and he screams, in pain and horror, unable to articulate just how terrifying whatever is happening to him is; his body goes limp and Laura scrambles to catch him and the lamb, but he's still standing upright, now made entirely out of green mist, still screaming as more voices join his own in crying out as whatever green poison he's been infected with stretches across time and space and wraps around everyone's he's ever Leaped into --
"I will take all of your souls!" The creature shrieks in delight, "And you'll be trapped here forever, while I take everyone you've ever been or ever will be!"

Then at that point the dream transitioned to a random Jurassic Park themed restaurant so idk what happened after this, but go wild! All I know is that whatever creature it was (my dream said it was a fey but I don't know enough about the fey) put a curse on Sam that was super freaky and painful and possibly disembodied him into a green mist, and if he, Al, maybe-Bob and Laura didn't find a way to defeat the creature, Sam would be stuck there forever and also maybe the creature would hijack the Leap and start traveling in time to attack more people. 🤷
Clearly, my dream was writing an episode set some time in Season 5 of the show lol, even if it was obviously inspired by me reading the Quantum Leap Novel Charny Knowledge (book one, also called 'the novel' depending on the version you have).
