Ivy woke up and yawned, remembering today was quidditch tryouts and their captain was the returning beater, Adam Andrews, to her dismay. She didn't care very much about quidditch, but she also didn't like seeing egotistical men like Adam get everything handed to them in life when they don't deserve it.18
She got dressed and dragged herself out of her dorm, still yawning as she turned out of the common room and walked down the stairs to the Great Hall.
Since she was taking six classes, she was already incredibly sleep deprived with almost no time to do anything. There was barely anyone in the Great Hall, so she decided to go ahead and study a bit. After a while it became much too loud to focus and she put away her books, beginning to eat breakfast.
Jessica sat down next to her, smiling as she grabbed breakfast, Chloe not far behind. Ivy began to butter a slice of toast as Bella ran in the Great Hall frantically, immediately sprinting towards Ivy once she saw them.
"Holy shit, Ivy!" Bella said as she sat down, breathing heavily. It took her a second before she caught her breath, fanning her face.
"Why did you run over here?" Jessica asked. Bella tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, still panting.
"I have some gossip!" Bella said in a singsong voice. Jessica and Chloe giggled and cheered. "And it involves you, Ivy!"
"What, me?!"
"Yes! I got the inside scoop this morning just a few minutes ago," Bella explained as she leaned in closer to say what she heard. "So, basically, you know Adam Andrews? Quidditch Captain? Well, Rylie said that Beth said that Ruby said that Charlotte said that Mary said that Eliza said that her boyfriend, who is Adam's best friend, Tom, said he really fancies you, Ivy. Like, a lot. He's gonna ask you out today during your one free period!"73
"Oh my god!" Chloe exclaimed. Bella shushed her. They looked over at Ivy to see her reaction.
"How does he know when my free period is?" Ivy asked, fiddling with the strap of her bag nervously.
"I think he asked Eliza since she has every class with you," Bella said. Ivy nodded, glad he didn't steal her timetable or stalk her to find out.
"He was eyeing me at the welcoming feast," Ivy said thoughtfully. "But he's rather creepy and he always mansplains things to me. So I'm saying no if he does ask me out."1
"He is a bit creepy, and maybe it's for the best, he's such a player. There's still Lupin," Jessica said. Ivy turned to look at her.
"What about Lupin?" Ivy said as coolly as she could, trying not to sound suspicious. Jessica gave a laugh.
"You fancy the pants off him!" Jessica said loudly, Ivy shushing her.
"Maybe a bit," Ivy muttered as Chloe ate a few blueberries. "But it doesn't matter if he doesn't reciprocate the feelings."
"I'm sure he does. And I'm honestly kind of nervous for you, Ivy. Adam is known to be very persistent. I know from experience," Bella said before their heads all whipped around towards the door, where he was walking in. "Speak of the devil."1
Adam and all his friends walked in, laughing about something. As they were laughing, Adam looked at Ivy, a smile still etched on his face. He gave a wink and a big, boyish grin as his friends pulled him away to where they usually sat.1
"Bloody hell!" Ivy exclaimed once he was out of earshot, turning towards the three girls who were squealing. "I don't want to say no, what if I hurt his feelings?"24
"Ivy, you're gonna be turning down a lot of boys when you look as good as you do. Seriously, you've been like, radiating confidence lately," Chloe said. Bella nodded.
"It's true," Bella began, "when you look as hot as us, you gotta get used to declining date offers."6
They walked to Defense Against the Dark Arts with Slytherins, sitting down at their seats and waiting for their new professor. Once they walked in, class started. They were instructed to grab a duel partner and cast disarming spells nonverbally. Ivy partnered up with Chloe while Jessica and Bella paired together.
Ivy waved her wand and Chloe's wand flew out of her hand. Chloe cursed her discreetly to not bring attention from the teacher. Ivy laughed and threw her wand back to her, getting ready to duel again. This time, Chloe was quick but Ivy casted a certain type of shield charm that deflected the spell back to Chloe. The wand flew out of her hand once more.
"This isn't fair, Ivy, you're much better me," Chloe said as Ivy threw the wand back again. The professor walked over and watched them duel, causing them both to get a bit nervous. Ivy casted disarming spell, then chloe casted a shield charm, getting rid of the spell completely as Ivy casted another disarming spell, causing Chloe to fly backwards as the wand came out of her hand.
"Well done, Ms. Scott, you're a very talented dueler, I'm sure Professor Flitwick would be impressed," The professor said. Ivy gave a polite smile.
"Thank you, sir," Ivy said. He smiled and moved on to the other students.
Once they were done with Defense Against the Dark Arts, Ivy had Alchemy. It was a decently small class since not very many people were taking it. She walked in and sat down in her spot.
Alchemy class was always rather interesting and it gave very useful information. It had a lot to do with potions, which was her favorite subject, so she liked to think of it as an extra potions.
Once Alchemy was over, she had lunch and her one free period, which she was dreading since Adam was apparently supposed to ask her out. She sat down at lunch beside Chloe, Bella, and Jessica, beginning to place food on her plate.
"I feel so bad for you, Ivy," Bella said as she but into a sandwich. "You have one free period. Sometimes none, depending on the day!"
"I'll survive," Ivy said with a smile as she ate her food. "Besides, I like being busy. It gives me something to think about."
When lunch was over, Ivy walked outside and sat under the tree near the Black Lake, doing her homework frantically since there were quidditch tryouts that night. She scribbled down answers, sighing as she dipped the quill in ink.
Remus Lupin sat down gently, peering over her shoulder at the work she was doing. He laughed softly.
"Why do you switch from cursive to normal handwriting?" He pointed out. Ivy stopped for a second to look at all her work. It was true, every few words the style of writing switched completely.20
"I don't know. I don't do it on purpose," Ivy muttered as she continued to write. Remus watched her with a smile on his face, admiring every inch of her. She snapped her head up, noticing his eyes on her as Remus looked away immediately, pretending he wasn't staring.4
James Potter flopped down dramatically, sitting beside Ivy. She glanced over at him and continued to work. Sirius sat next to James and Peter next to Sirius.
"I guess I should start studying too," James said as he got out his Potions essay, thinking about what to write. Remus was engrossed in his Charms homework as Sirius and Peter helped each other with the Transfiguration assignment.
After a while of studying, she heard a few hushed whispers, saying things like 'go!' and 'you can do it!' She ignored it and continued on her Charms work, resting her face in her hand.
She didn't think too much of the hushed whispers until a figure was standing right in front of her.
"Ivy, can I speak to you?"22
Ivy looked up and saw Adam Andrews, standing there arrogant as ever, smirking down at her. Realization dawned on her. He was going to ask her out.
"Sure, what's up?"
"In private," Adam said with a cheesy grin. Remus was glaring daggers at him. Ivy blinked and put a fake smile on her face.5
"Sure thing."
She stood up with the help of James, walking a few steps away from the Marauders and to an area where no one was.1
"So, Ivy, this Saturday is a Hogsmeade weekend," Adam said, smiling down upon her. She felt intimidated under his gaze.
"Yup," Ivy replied shortly. She refused to assume what he was hinting at.
"I was thinking, we should go together. On a date," Adam said. Ivy felt herself tense up immediately.
Meanwhile, the four boys under the tree watched the two have a conversation, keeping an eye out to make sure Adam didn't do anything. Remus felt ragingly jealous and very helpless.1
"Sorry... I can't," Ivy said as she tried to walk away back to the tree. He stopped her.
"Wait, why?" He asked. Ivy turned around and shrugged.
"I have plans."
"With who?"
"With a friend." Ivy said as she began to walk away. He stopped her once more.
"Which friend?"
"Chloe."
"I'm sure you'll be free sometime that day, come on Ivy," Adam said.
"Sorry, I'm all booked," Ivy said, beginning to get annoyed as she walked away. He followed after her as she sped walk back to where she was originally sitting.
"I'm sure you can make time for me."1
"No, sorry, I can't."
"Are you sure"12
"Yes!"
"...Really—"
"—Andrews!" Ivy yelled, interrupting him, bringing the attention of a few students that were sitting outside. "When a girl says she has plans, she doesn't have plans! She just doesn't like you. Also, I don't owe you a reason as to why I won't go on a date with you to Hogsmeade. So, it's a no, leave me alone."48
She spun on her heel, about to sit next to Remus. Adam was still begging.
"Come on—"3
"—Dude, she said no. Fuck off," Remus said, sticking up the middle finger. Ivy diverted her gaze to Remus. She had never seen him this angry before. Adam was quiet for a second before a look of awareness washed over him.83
"Oh! Ivy, you should have just said you have a boyfriend!" Adam said. It was silent for a second, just the two boys staring at each other daringly before Remus attempted to get up, his hand beginning to pull out his wand. Ivy pushed him back down, her hands on his shoulders.1
"It's okay. I can handle this," She said quietly, giving a small smile. She took her hands off his shoulders and turned around.
"Ivy—"
"—Andrews, I'm terribly sorry, but it's a no! I don't want to go on a date with you," Ivy said calmly. Adam rolled his eyes, muttering something before walking back to his friends who patted him on the back and told him good try.
Ivy saw what Bella meant when she said he was very persistent.

Ivy walked to quidditch tryouts, halfway dreading them. She didn't want to see Adam after what happened today. She walked in her practice clothes, her broom in her hand as she showed up to the quidditch pitch. Returning Chaser, Ava Andrews, Adam Andrews's sister, was also there, waiting.
Once everyone gathered around, Adam instructed them to fly a few laps around the pitch. Ivy took off, the wind in her short hair as she flew. Once they landed, Adam began to explain tryouts.
"There is only one spot left for Beater since I am a Beater. Also, just because you made the team last year does not mean you'll make it this year," Adam said, avoiding Ivy's eye completely. He clapped his hands together. "Alright. Let's get started."10
Once tryouts began, they went by quickly. Since there were even less people trying out, Ivy was the best Beater by far and almost everyone who tried out would make the team.
She walked back to her dorm, oblivious to the angering surprise that was about to happen tomorrow morning.18
