so theres this culturally dubious cursed statute in this one. im not showing it. just turtles.

I think the hood mask is either a... costume? its probably not a inking error cause. its in multiple panels.... maybe its like... wearing old clothes from your childhood as cozy clothes...

now ofc we the reader know its a mystic statute that must be stolen to unlock its magic. they think someone paid some folks (one who they saw die [again the reader knows its from poison]) to rob their friend for an item that runs you the same as this here comic would....
