Imam Al Sajjad (as): I heard my father say to his followers: “I glorify Allāh with the most perfect glorification and I praise Him in happiness and misfortune. O Allāh, I praise You for blessing us with prophethood, teaching us the Qur’ān and making us understand the religion. You have given us hearing, sight and hearts, and have made us among those who give thanks (to You). I know of no followers more loyal and more virtuous than my followers nor of any House more pious and more close-knit than my House. May Allāh reward you well on my behalf. Indeed, I do not think that there will be (any further) days (left) to us by these men. I permit you to leave me. All (of you) go away with the absolution of your oath (to follow me), for there will be no (further) obligation on you from me. This is a night (whose darkness) will give cover to you. Use it as a camel (i.e. ride away in it).”

His brothers and sons, the sons of his sisters and the sons of ‘Abd Allāh b. Ja‘far (as) said: “We will not leave you to make ourselves continue living after your (death). Allāh will never see us (do) such a thing.”

Al-‘Abbās b. ‘Alī (as) was the first of them to make this declaration. Then the (whole) group followed him, (all) declaring the same thing.

“Sons of ‘Aqīl,” said al-Ḥusayn, “enough of your (family) has been killed. So go away as I have permitted you “

“Glory be to Allāh.” they replied, “what would the people say? They would say that we deserted our Shaykh, our lord, the sons of our uncle, who was the best of uncles; that we had not shot arrows alongside them, we had not thrust spears alongside them, we had not struck swords alongside them. (At such an accusation) we do not know what we would do. No, by Allāh, we will not do (such a thing). Rather we will ransom you with our lives, property and families. We will fight for you until we reach your destination. May Allāh make life abominable (for us) after your (death).”

Then Muslim b. ‘Awsaja arose and spoke: “Could we leave you alone? How should we excuse ourselves before Allāh concerning the performance of our duty to you? By Allāh, I will stab them with my spear (until it breaks), I will strike them with my sword as long as the hilt is in my hand. If I have no weapon (left) to fight them with, I will throw stones (at them). By Allāh we will never leave you until Allāh knows that we have preserved through you (the company of His Apostle) in his absence. By Allāh, if I knew that I would die and then be revived and then burnt and then revived, and then scattered, and that would be done to me seventy times, I would never leave you until I met my death (fighting) on your behalf. So how could I do it when there can only be one death, which is a great blessing which can never be rejected?”

Zuhayr b. al-Qayn (as) spoke: “By Allāh, I would prefer to be killed and then recalled to life; and then be killed a thousand times in this manner; and that in this way Allāh, the Mighty and Exalted, should protect your life and the lives of these young men of your House.”

All his followers spoke in a similar vein, one after the other. Al-Ḥusayn (as) called (on Allāh to) reward them well and then went back to his tent.

Why “every day is Ashura and every land is Karbala” a wrong slogan?

Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Bashshar al-Qazwini has narrated from al-Muzzafar ibn Ahmad from al-Asadi from Sahl from Sulyman ibn 'Abd Allah from 'Abd Allah ibn al-Fadl who has said the following: "I(narrator) once asked, 'Abd Allahع saying 'O child of the messenger of Allah, why is it that the day of 'Ashura' has become the day of mourning, sadness, lamentations and weeping and not the day in which the messenger of Allahص passed away, the day when Fathimahس passed away, the day Amir al-Mumini Aliع was killed, or the day in which al-Hassanع was killed by poison?' He(The Imam) said: "The day in which al-Husaynع was killed in the day of great suffering compared to other days; the people of the gown(al-Kisa) were the most honourable among the creatures on the sight of Allah and they were five people. From these people when The Holy Prophetص passed away Amir al-Muminin Aliع, fathimahس, al-Hassanع, al-Husaynع, were there who were solace and comfort. When Fathimaس passed away Amir al-Muminin Aliع, al-Hassanع, al-Husaynع were there who were solace and comfort for people and when Amir al-Muminin Aliع passed away al-Hassanع and al-Husaynع were there who were solace and comfort for the people and When al-Hassanع passed away al-Husaynع was there as solace and comfort for people. When al-Husaynع was murdered no one of the people of al-Kisa was left for the people for comfort and solace, so his(al-Husaynع) passing away was like passing away of all of them just as living among people was the living of all of them among the people and for this reason, his day is the day of greatest suffering and sadness.'

"'Abd Allah ibn al-Fadl al-Hashimi has said that he asked, saying, 'o child of the Messenger of Allah, why people did not find solace and comfort with Ali ibn al-Husaynع like it was the case with his ancestors?'

He(The Imam) said: Ali ibn al-Husaynع was master of the worshippers, and Imam and al-Hujjah(the one who has divine authority) over the creatures after his ancestors passed away.

However he did not meet the Messenger of Allahص and did not hear himص and his(Ali ibn al-Husaynع) knowledge was inherited from his fatherع and grantfatherع from holy Prphetص, Amir al-Muminin Aliع, Fathimaس, al-Hassanع, al-husaynع were seen by people with the messenger of Allahص in continuing conditions, so when one of them look at one of them they remembered the position of that person with Messenger of Allahص and the words of Messenger of Allahص about them with them and when theyع passed away from people lost they're observing the most honoured ones in the sight of Allahج, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious and the loss of one of them was not loss of all of them all together except in the loss of al-Husaynع, because he was the last of them and for this reason, his day is the greatest day of suffering and sadness.'

"'Abd Allah ibn al-Fadl al-Hashimi has said that he then asked: 'O child of Messenger of Allah, why is it that al-Ammah(non-Shia) consider the day of 'Ashura' the day of blessings?'

He(The Imamع) wept and said 'When al-Husaynع was killed people in al-sham sought nearness to yazidل, so they fabricated hadith on this issue to receive prize and money. The issues that they invented was the issue of the day of 'Ashura' that it is the day of Ashura that it is the day of blessings to divert people's attention from mourning and lamentation and weeping for the suffering(al-Husaynع) and instead make them express happiness and joy and seek blessings. May Allahج issue his decision among usع and these people.'"

"He(narrator) has said that He(the Imamع) then said: 'o son of my uncle, the harmless of what they have done is much less to Islam the invention of those who call themselves as our friends and think that they follow the religion according to their belief in their friendship to usع and in our Imamat(leadership) and they think that al-Husaynع, was not killed but his issue became confused for the people just like 'Isaع(Jesus) son of Maryس, so there is no blame on the Amawides and no-fault according to their thinking.

O son of my uncle, those who say al-Husaynع, was not killed, they have considered the Messenger of Allahص and Aliع, and A'immahع, after him as untruthful because they all have spoken of al-Husaynع, being murdered and those who call them untruthful become disbelievers in Allahج the most great. The life of such people no longer remain respectable to those who hear them make such assertions.'"

"Abd Allah ibn al-Fadl has said that he then asked: 'O child of the Messenger of Allah, what do you say about those individuals of you Shi'a who maintain such belief?'

He(The Imamع) said: 'They are not my Shi'a and I disown them.'"

He(narrator) has said that he then asked about the meaning of the words of Allahج, most Majestic, most Glorious "ou certainly knew about those among you who were transgressors on the Sabbath. We commanded them, 'Become detested apes...'[2:65]

He(The Imamع), said: 'They metamorphosed for three days then died without leaving any offsprings. The apes today are like them and so also are pigs and other metamorphosed beings which are found today are like it and their flesh is not edible.'

He(The Imamع) then said: 'May Allahج keep his mercy away from al-Ghulat and al-Mufawwazah, they are such people who have belittled disobedience to Allahج and have turned to disbelief, and polytheism and have gone astray and have misled the others just to flee from their obligations and avoid yielding to the rights.'"

Abdullah ibn Bukhair al Arjani narrates:

“I accompanied Aba Abdullah Imam Jafar Sadiq (as) from Medina to Mecca. We stopped in an area called Usfaan (a village between Medina & Mecca). Then we passed by a mountain on the left side of the road which was black and formidable.

I said to Imam (as), “O’ Son of RasoolAllah (saw)! How formidable this mountain is! I have never seen anything like this.”

Imam (as) asked, “O’ ibn Bukhair! Do you know which mountain this is?”

I replied, “No.”

Imam (as) said, “This mountain is called Kamad. It overlooks one of the valleys in Hell where the killers of My Father Hussain (as) are. The melted materials of Hell flow under the killers of My Father Hussain (as) in this valley. These materials include GHISLEEN (“filth” Quran 69:36), SADEED (“festering water” Quran 14:16), HAMEEM (“boiling water” Quran 40:72), that material which emerges from the Putrid Well, that material which oozes from the sins (blood and pus) in FALAQ (the lowest valley in Hell), that material which oozes out from the clay of KHABAL (pus), that material which oozes from Jahannum, that material which oozes from the blazing fires, that which oozes out from HUTAMAH (“that which crushes into pieces Quran 104:4), that which oozes out from SAQAR (“burning hellfire” Quran 74:26), that which oozes out from HAWIYAH (“abyss” Quran 101:9), and that which oozes out from SA’IR (“burning fire” Quran4:55).

Every time I pass by this mountain, I stop and see those Two (ابو بكر وعمر) seeking refuge with Me, and I look upon the killers of My Father (as) and I say to them:

“You established the foundation for what the killers of Hussain (as) did. You showed Us no mercy during the time of Your rule. You slaughtered Us, denied and usurped Our rights. You oppressed Our affairs by dismissing Us. May Allah have no mercy on those who have mercy on the Two of you. Now taste the results of the evil that you (the two) brought forth. For Allah is not unjust with any of His servants.”

Sometimes I climb the mountain of Kamad, where those Two are located. I stand there in order to soothe some of that which is in My heart. The second of the two begs and gives in to despair more deeply.”

I asked, “May I be sacrificed upon You! What do You hear when You climb this mountain?”

Imam (as) replied, “I hear the voices of those Two. They cry out, “Come towards us so we may speak with You for we wish to repent.” And then I hear the mountains cry out, “Be ye driven into it with disgrace; speak not unto Me” (Quran 23:108). ”

I asked, “May I be sacrificed upon You! Who else is with them?”

Imam (asws) replied, “Every tyrant whose actions have been mentioned by Allah in Quran and everyone who taught kufr to the servants of Allah.”

I asked, “And who are they?”

Imam (as) replied: “Bulis who taught the Jews “…the Hand of Allah is tied up” (Quran 5:64), Nastoor who taught the Christians that Isa (as) was “The Messiah is the son of Allah” (Quran 9:30) and that they are three Firoan of Musa (as) who said, “I am your lord, the most high” (Quran 79:24) Numrood who said, “I have overpowered all within the earth and killed those in the heavens” and the killer of Ameerul Momineen (as), the killer of Syeda Fatima (sa) & Mohsin (as), the killers of Hasan (as) & Hussain (as), as well as Muawiyah (la) and Amr ibn As (la), each has no hope of salvation and anyone who incited hatred against Us, who helped Our enemies against Us either with his tongue, wealth or hand will also be with them.”...
