IronHawk (Part Eighteen)
MASTERLIST
*********************
“So just tonight?” Clint asked, as he walked with Logan around the Tower grounds. He was happy to give a tour, happy to be spending time with his friend again.
“Yep. I've got some stuff to take care of at the school. Didn't want to ride all weekend. And you know… you did tell me to find you.”
“Hell yeah I did.” Clint agreed.
When the SHIELD transport had touched down all those weeks ago and Hawkeye had caught the news, seen his team struggling to fight those rock things, Clint had tossed Logan his bag and yelled to Coulson that he had to go.
“Wait - where?” Logan asked, not having seen the news yet, and definitely looking forward to a slow night of cigars, beer, and maybe, maybe some more time with Clint.
“The team needs me, Tony needs me, I just-- I got to go. Just um… Logan?” The mutant looked up to where Clint was already several feet off the ground. “This is a shitty way to end things so...Come find me, yeah?”
“You aren't coming back.” Logan stated with a sinking feeling in his chest, and Clint shook his head.
“Not for a while at least. Come find me, okay? Lets at least share a beer..”
“Count on it Wing boy.”
“I'm glad you're here.” Clint said with a smile, and a hand to Logan's shoulder.
“So what? Pizza and beer all night? I got to leave pretty early but I'm down for something fun. Red white and Super said something about you working on training with them like we did.”
“Red white and---” Clint laughed. “I'm stealing that. New nickname for the Captain. And yeah, they've been pretty impressed with some of the stuff I've showed them.”
“So maybe we should show them how the real soldiers do it.”
“Yeah?” Clint asked, amused. “Want to do some fightin’?”
“Always.” The mutant popped his neck, the adamantium laced joints cracking so loudly that Clint shuddered. “Let's show the boys in tights how it's done, huh?”
“You know I'd love to see how you do against Hulk and the Captain. Maybe no claws with Captain, but you can't really hurt Hulk.”
“Watch me try.” Logan grinned around his cigar.
*************
“Sir, are you aware of what's happening on the front lawn?” JARVIS interrupted Tony's reading several hours later.
“JARVIS I'm reading.”
“Not to contradict you sir, but I actually am aware that you haven't turned a page in over an hour, and thought perhaps you would like a distraction.”
“God damnit. Fine JARVIS, what on earth is going on the front lawn?” Tony tossed his book aside, irritated. He had been trying to work all day, or tinker on something, or read, but every few minutes his mind returned to the unexpected visitor, that mutant that Clint had been so happy to see. And of course, Natasha's words after.
“JARVIS, have you noticed Hawkeye acting strange around me?”
“If you are referring to his inclination to watch you constantly, or the way he seems bothered every time he tries to scent you and cant, then yes, I have observed some odd behavior on his part.”
“He seems bothered when he tries to scent me?” Tony asked with a frown. “I didn't really notice.”
“Sir, I am not really qualified to offer advice on relationships. But yes, I have observed that he seems disgruntled whenever you are close enough to scent, and he can't scent you at all. I would assume it has to do with your pheromone neutralizer.”
“But that's not what I meant to happen when I started wearing--”
“Honestly, sir, the front lawn, if you would.” The AI intoned, almost sounded peeved.
“Fine JARVIS! Don't be such a little… what--what--what the hell is going on out there?” Tony pushed aside his curtains in the lab to stare out at the large green lawn in front of the Tower.
Clint and Logan were standing close to each other, circling warily, as Captain America, Wilson, and- “JARVIS is that the Hulk?!”- took turns rushing the pair, only to be driven back every time.
“Yes sir, they have been sparring for the better part of an hour and I am starting to worry about the grass.”
“Holy shit.” Tony left his lab, scrambling up to the common room, where Natasha and Wanda were watching the fight through a security feed up on the TV.
“Look at him move.” The Witch said dreamily, talking about Logan, as the mutant knocked Wilson out of the air, sending the winged soldier plowing into the ground. The Captain went next, his shield whipping out and smashing into Logan's stomach. Incredibly the man just coughed hard and wiped some blood from his mouth before throwing the shield right back.
But the most surprising was the Hulk.
Banner was in complete Green mode, roaring and stomping around as Clint darted in and out around him, peppering the monster with punches and kicks and dashing away to safety. It was unheard of for Banner to even participate in sparring, much less a brawl like this was, because he was always afraid the Hulk would forget it wasn't a life or death fight and really hurt someone. Apparently Banner had gotten over his misgivings.
“Do you think he's fighting Hawkeye because of…” Wanda sent a look at Tony and Natasha shook her head.
“I think Banners fighting because even genius scientists need a testosterone laden outlet every once in awhile. Look at the guy go.” She breathed, not looking away from the screen at all.
Hulk was surprisingly quick on his feet, dodging and weaving to avoid Hawkeye. And then, with a ground shaking yell, Banners Hulk took a swing at Clint… and missed… sending his giant fist plowing into Logan.
Logan went flying, smashing into, and thoroughly denting,  the stone security wall twenty or thirty yards away.
Clint jerked around to look, and the Captain took the opportunity to yank him right out of the air, a hard punch knocking Clint to the ground.
Tony felt a jolt of panic, as his Alpha lay stunned on the lawn. “Is he-” he bit his tongue, not wanting to ask after Clint. That seemed… needy.
“Oh he's fine, look!” Wanda was pointing, but not at Hawkeye. At the edge of the yard Logan was standing back up, brushing dirt and stone off him. “Good god he's beautiful.” The teenager cried.
“Oh my god, look at this.” Natasha leaned forward, fascinated, watching.
Clint had gotten off the ground, wings beating hard, headed towards Logan. The mutant started running towards Hawkeye, who went into a short dive, and held out his arms. Logan jumped, then seemed to run right up Clint’s chest, stepping across his arms, then shoulders, and with a strong beat of his wings, Clint launched him up and over and across the yard. Those terrifying claws unsheathed, and the mutant yelled at the top of his lungs, teeth bared, heading right towards Banner.
With a roar they could hear from inside, the Hulk turned and charged, and the two creatures collided hard. Logan's full body weight drove right into Banners stomach, and the green monster hit the ground with a boom, punching through several feet of grass and dirt.
The fight ended abruptly, both Steve and Wilson staring with jaws wide open at the crater in the once perfect yard. Clint, wings slowly fanning the air to keep him aloft, was circling slowly.
It took a few minutes, but finally a body climbed from the crater.
Logan. Filthy dirty, fists clenched, but claws put away. He bent and reached back into the pit, pulling a non-hulked out Bruce Banner free. Other than being covered in bits of lawn, Banner looked fine.
And then he laughed. All five of the men burst out laughing, Clint landing so he could sit down and hold his stomach. Wilson was guffawing in disbelief, pointing at Logan who lit a cigar amid chuckles and puffed on it.
“They are all lunatics.” Natasha muttered and Tony just stared. Even the Captain was cracking up, laying flat on his back, gasping for air. “Just lunatics. Someone could have died.”
“Isn't he just about the dreamiest thing you've ever seen?” Wanda  said, her eyes big. Tony rolled his eyes so hard it nearly hurt. “Keep rolling your eyes Stark.” The woman snorted. “Maybe you’ll find a brain back there.”
“Well, let's order some dinner.” Natasha said after a few more minutes. “I can't imagine that they want to do anything other than drink and eat and chest bump after something that ridiculous.”
She was right.
It took almost an hour for the men to get cleaned up and put back together, bandaged up and presentable, but eventually they all poured into the common room, starving and ready to start drinking.
“Whiskey!” Steve called but Clint shook his head and grabbed two bottles.
“Tequila!”
“Drink it all!” Wilson yelled right back, sliding along the bar top to grab any bottle he could get his hands on.
It devolved into a party very quickly after that, with mountains of pizza, wings, and nachos delivered, the music system thumping at some obscene level. Both Natasha and Wanda had disappeared when Logan had started passing around cigars, and it took a turn towards bachelors night out. Even Bruce was drinking, something he hardly ever did, and had gotten up on top of table to dance, much to the drunken cheers and screams of the rest of the men. Clint and Logan threw darts and played pool. Captain did a body shot off of Banner, who hadn't stopped laughing once. Wilson had even found the karaoke machine and was crooning love songs over the speakers.
By the time Tony slipped back down from his room to make sure his house wasn't being trashed, the party was in full swing, and everyone was more than a little drunk.
“Hey.”
Tony jumped back, hand over his heart, scared to death when Logan appeared next to him. “Jesus, what?”
Logan smirked, and Tony hated himself for being startled. “Why aren't you partying? Plenty of booze to go around.”
“Yeah, I know, I bought all the booze. And I have work to do.” He replied, annoyed. “And someone needs to make sure my house doesn't end up destroyed. You know, like my lawn did?”
Logan laughed then, a low easy sound that made Tony feel a little… warm. “Wing boy wouldn't let anything happen to the place. He's only half as drunk as the rest of us.”
Tony shot a quick look at Clint, who was nearly falling off his stool laughing at something Steve was saying. “Really.” He replied drily. “Half as drunk.”
“Hey look.” Logan shifted so he was right in Tony's line of sight. “I know that you can feel… stuff. Through that.” He sent a pointed look at Tony's bonding mark.
“What about it?” Tony asked uncomfortably, backing up a step.
“So I know a while ago, like maybe a couple months now, you felt something--” Logan raised his eyebrows “--when Hawk was...busy?.”
Tony's face burned in embarrassment. “Don't.” He said harshly. “Don't you dare.”
“It's not like that.” Logan continued, not breaking eye contact. “It wasn't like… anything. He had a hard day, hard couple of weeks. Needing to blow off some steam. Just him and… his hand.” Tony's eyes narrowed and Logan nodded. “He wasn't with anyone. I mean, we shared a room, so I was there, but it wasn't anything. Just him and his hand on his bed. Don't be angry with him because you think it was something else. It wasn't anything else.”
“Thanks...I think.” Tony said carefully.
“I know I make you uncomfortable.” The mutant said. “And I know what you think, but it isn't that. It wasn't ever that.” He took a deep pull of cigar  before adding, “He called for you that night, you know. For his omega. He thought he was being quiet but… he called for you.”
Logan said everything calmly, even as his heart twisted inside of him. He had never told Clint what he had heard. While he was gasping Clint’s name, Hawkeye had moaned for his Omega. Tony.
“So maybe cut him some slack.” Logan said softly. “I know things are… well I don't know how things are between you two, but I know they can't be good. Just believe me when I tell you that it was just you on his mind all those months. I'll admit I wanted it to be me, alright I got no problem saying that, but it wasn't. Just you, Stark. So quit punishing him or whatever this is. Just because I'm a mutant doesn't mean I can't smell the hurt on him.”
“Thanks.” Tony said again, but he meant it this time.
“You gonna stay for a beer?” Logan asked, and Tony shook his head no. “Well, I'll be gone in the morning, so--” Logan nodded once in goodbye and turned to rejoin the party.
Tony went to bed, not noticing how Clint’s eyes followed him. **************
“Are you sure you can't stay longer?” Clint asked quietly, watching Logan strap his duffel onto the back of his bike.
“I got to go.” Logan said regretfully, pulling his sunglasses down to hide from the early morning sun. “Too much to do. This was fun though.”
“Better good-bye than me just flying off randomly?” Clint asked with a laugh and Logan grinned.
“Yeah, like three bottles of tequila and several packs of beer better. You heroes know how to party. And fight.” He rolled his shoulder, wincing at the soreness. “It's not often I'm sore after a battle but that Hulk can throw his weight around.”
“Yeah.. well.” Clint laughed again. “There's a reason for the name, amiright?”
“Listen.” Logan said, suddenly serious. “It wasn't anything, Clint. Between us.”
“What?” Clint actually took a step back in confusion and surprise and Logan frowned.
“It wasn't anything. So don't let guilt over it come between you and your omega.”
“I wasn't-”
“I slept in the same room as you for months.” Logan interrupted. “I know you pretty damn well, I know you are over thinking that little moment between us and I'm all I'm saying is it wasn't anything. So don't make it  something that will drive you two apart. Two guys in one room… it's not like we shared a bed, it's not like we actually did anything together it wasn’t… it wasn't anything.” They were quiet for a few minutes, until Clint finally nodded.
“Alright then.”
Logan swung a leg over his bike and sat heavily, making a face when the suspension squealed.
“Next time around,” he made a round motion, “you know when your soul comes back through or gets reincarnated or whatever you non mutants believe…” Clint laughed at him but stepped closer to listen. “Next time around, maybe skip the whole hero archer thing and head upstate. I've got a cabin in a little town I think you'd love. Maybe next time around our little moment that was absolutely nothing this time,  will be something next time. Come looking for me.”
“Count on it mutant.” Clint answered, his throat tight.
“See you around Wingboy.” Logan reached out and shook his hand, holding on for just a minute too long, before kicking his bike on with a roar.
“Next time, Logan.”
He stood in the driveway watching until the bike made it through the security gates, and disappeared down the highway, trying to breathe around the emotion locking his chest up. ****************** Back upstairs, Clint headed for the coffee machine, glancing up when the elevator to Tony's penthouse opened and the man stepped out.
“You're up early.” Clint said with a  smile and a lingering glance. Tony in soft sweatpants and a t shirt, with bare feet was about the cutest thing he'd ever seen. “We haven't seen much of each other the last few days. Can I make you some breakfast? Or some coffee? Want to spend a little time together?”
Tony didn't answer for a minute, studying the Alpha carefully. Clint looked tired, but not in a bad way. His cheek was scraped up from the fight yesterday, and his hair was messy like he'd just barely woken up. His plaid pajama pants looked entirely too comfortable, and if he looked hard enough, he knew he'd be able to tell that Clint was going commando. Those gorgeous wings draped easily over his shoulders and brushed the floor, and the muscles in his arm flexed as he reached for the coffee pot to pour a cup.
“Are you okay?” Clint asked, tilting his head. Tony actually noticed this time, noticed the Alpha leaning into scent him, then frowning when he couldn't catch anything.
“I want to fuck you.” Tony said, and the Alpha growled.
